So my original xbox sometimes displays a message that it cannot recognize.... etc. Only sometimes, however. Anybody know a troubleshooting or quick fix? I deleted the game save already.

)Clean the DVD lens using a commercial cleaner. Make sure the discs you are using are in great shape with no scratches and/or smudges.
)If nothing, open the Xbox and clean the lens directly using a cotton swab with a bit of alcohol, IN CIRCULAR MOTIONS and without excessive force. Dry using dry side of cotton swab, wiping in circular motions once more.
)If still nothing, tweak the potentiometer. This tweak will depend on the DVD drive, as it's values vary widely from drive manufacturer.
)If still nothing, replace the lens from the drive with a new lens. New lens must be the same as the old lens, for the same drive.
)If still nothing, replace DVD drive. Hell, replace the IDE cable with an ATA100 cable if you wish, just make sure it's the appropiate length.
