While going through my Genesis Collection I came across two other variants. One is for Championship Pro Am(one cart is blue, the other is red). Another is Test Drive II the Duel. One of my labels is yellow, the other is the same picture on the box. Both these variants are currently on ebay, but I can take pics if needed.

I've got a copy of Captain America with Collectors Pin as my copy is factory sealed. I have a 100% complete US collection. I had an extra factory sealed copy that I sold a few years back for 100.00. Maybe I sold it too cheap given how hard that pin is to find. On this same note, that hockey puck pack in was tough to find.

Potential for a rarity, but IDK:

I'd be interested to know if any Genny collectors have the Sega wireless 6 button pads (I'm starting to think I'm the only one! It seems like I'm always the sole-party bringing them up. ). So far, the ones I bought new (96-97) are the only set that I've seen, and they are awesome controllers. They are IR so if you aim it too far off from the receiver you will lose connection, but in my experience that is rarely a problem. The beam angles seem to be fairly wide. Many have stated before that the wired 6 button pads can be a bitch to track down (I'd have to agree, as I've been hunting a pair of 6 button sticks for years...), but I've never sought the wired pads, because I had the wireless pair for so long.

Also, the Sega wireless 6 button pads are not listed in the online rarity guide under search criteria: Genesis > non-cart items

I do have this one, for some reason it didn't make it in to my game list.

    EDIT: Here's the back
Excellent, I'll keep an eye out for this version now.

***EDIT*** Turns out I already had this one too, it was hiding out in a box that got overlooked due to moving.

The blue cart came with the original plastic case release and the red cart came with the cardboard boxed re-release. These should be listed in my variants list.

$100 is a good price, that's exactly what I would be willing to pay. You may have been able to get more on eBay though.

I have three of the wireless controllers but only one receiver. I love these controllers so much, they work great, but only for one player games. If you try to use two at once, the IR signals seem to interfere with each other making them unusable for fast action games. They still work fine for slow paced two player games like Jeopardy or Monopoly.

Dreamcast has quite a few variants, actually. Most of them have to deal with the Hot! New! or Sega All-Stars variants though.

I never noticed that last issue there myself. Gonna have to play some 2P Street Fighter 2 and check that out.

That's true, DC has more variants that Sega CD or Saturn, which have very few. I was just comparing it to Master System and Genesis, both which have an unbelievable amount. DC probably has 30 - 40 variants all told, whereas even Master System, with a U.S. library of less than half the size, has more. Genesis probably has at least 200 variants which is insane.

I do believe that this is the hard to find pin that came with Captain America. Either way, I got it cheap. Stuff like this makes the system fun to collect.

all my genesis games are canadian im guessing as they were all bought here (in canada.. lol) I wonder what the main differences are?

I know more modern games (ps2 or 360) will have french and english instructions and sometimes even both languages of artwork sleeve's for the game case.

Lol actually? are they worth a bit more? I have been selling them for the same as the american ones when I get doubles on ebay. I do have a copy of starflight with both french and english 144 page manuals and a double sided map... pretty cool

Just came across a set of Quackshot variants. Looks like the original release had a splash on the insert advertising a contest where you can win a trip to Disney World. What I'm guessing is the second release looks exactly the same minus the splash. Then there is also the Canadian release which comes with a special Canadian insert, standard Genesis cartridge and a PAL-style multilingual manual. Perhaps most interesting an seemingly the most rare is the other variant. This one is the same as the non-splash U.S. version but has a modified Sega seal of quality. The original seal says "official Sega seal of quality" whereas the rarer version says "official Sega Genesis seal of quality". They are pretty easy to distinguish even in small pictures because one has "Sega" in the largest type and the other has "Genesis" in the largest type. Also, both copies of the "official Sega Genesis seal of quality" variants I've seen have Mega Drive cartridges instead of Genesis cartridges for some reason. I used to think that any games found like this were case swaps but it's so common I think Sega sold them like this when they were short on Genesis cartridges.

The other day I came across YuYu Hakusho: Sunset Fighters, a Brazilian only localization of Treasure's excellent Makyoutoissen by Tectoy. I didn't even know it existed until the other day but it's a great find on my part.

The two that come to mind right now are Captain America (complete with collectors pin) and Primal Rage (with available mail in soundtrack). Anyone here have one or both of these in their collection?

I've also noticed some 1996 re-releases of certain Genesis games. Specifically these are older games which were re-released with ESRB ratings. Right now I have the Taz-Mania, Sonic Spinball and Super Monaco GP ESRB re-releases. Does anyone know of additional ESRB re-releases?

One last thing would be Canadian Genesis games. These have different box art. These are the Canadian Genesis games I have, does anyone know of other ones?

    Alisia Dragoon - C
Alex Kidd In The Enchanted Castle - C
    Batman Returns - B
Chakan: The Forever Man - C
    David Robinson's Supreme Court - C
    Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing - C
    Fantasia - B
    Flicky - C
    Forgotten Worlds - C
    Kid Chameleon - C
Sports Talk Football '93 Starring Joe Montana - C
    Super Monaco GP - B
    Taz-Mania - B
    Team USA Basketball - C

Add in "Sonic the Hedgehog" for Canadian variant art (uses the JP cover art... it took me almost 10 years to discover it was in fact Canadian and not a Hong Kong knock-off). I got mine, beat-up cart only, at a Software, Etc. in 1998.

For ESRB re-releases, they re-released Road Rash 2 & Battletoads in the then-standard flimsy cardboard box. RR2's re-release is also a unique case because it is an EA game that doesn't use the square EA cartridge with the yellow tab, but instead the regular genny cartridge with a new label which sports the box art.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I think I have a Canadian version of Toejam and Earl.

It says Megadrive on the cover, and has the multi lingual description on the back. The manual is different too. Actually, there's a copy on eBay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ToeJam-Earl-Mega...item2304cdd711

Doh. I always forget some PAL games play fine on US systems right? I never had a problem with my copy playing on a US system.
