Please note: I did not take the time to reread the earlier posts in this thread.
While I can't speak for the rest of the mod staff, I don't think we will be making any changes to the Classic Gaming & Modern Gaming forum configuration any time soon. It was initially done because one giant gaming forum needed some kind of separation/organization, and it seemed like a good fit. Now, with was once modern now growing old, it doesn't seem to make as much sense. However I think it still works fine and certainly serves its purpose as a separator of discussion.
While early PS2 or GBA games may feel more at home with DC and GBC, it's not like they are out of place next to DS and PS3 discussion. Think of it as a way to organize discussion; we aren't defining what is old and what is new. When the DP Zine started, reviews of new releases were put right alongside discussion of games going back to the 2600. We would still do that with these forums if it didn't seem crowded that way.
Also, if we wanted to move certain systems to the classic gaming forum, threads would have to be sorted one by one, which I can tell you right now will never happen.
My guess is that in ten years, Modern Gaming will probably feel full and it will be time for another change. There will be the following forums (requiring no shuffling of threads):
Classic Gaming (0-1999)
Classic Gaming (2000-2019)
Modern Gaming (2020-20XX)
