    This guy sells replacement AC adaptors for the x-eye and the cdx.
    I've bought a sega trio adapter from him and he was very pleasant to shop from.
    You might want to give him a look.

    a psone ac adapter will power a JVC xEYE just fine, the grey box..

    It'll power on and work, but it's 7.5v and 2.0a, so there's still a risk. and this thing is too awesome to take a risk.

    I did a little googling and I think you are right, probably not 100% safe, sorry for the bad info.
    I had a xeye for about 5 or so years and used it on and off with the psone adapter, no problems so maybe I was lucky?

    The PSOne PSU will work perfectly fine, the system steps down the incoming voltage to 5V so the voltage difference isn't critical.

    I've dealt with him too and very helpful. Bought a CDX AC adapter and it has been working great, no problems at all.
