You're probably right, the issue is likely just the resolution, either SD or ED, of the CRT. It's possible other settings may interfere. It would be good to get some solid data to determine one way or the other.
Sometimes light guns won't work on a set if the sharpness isn't turned high enough, or if other settings aren't set right. Just asking people here to see if light guns work or don't work on their set isn't conclusive enough unless you test all possible settings as well.

I don't have any flat screen CRTs so I can't test anything out myself, I just have standard older CRTs.
