I've never played a Dragon Quest/Warrior game despite the fact that I think I might have every game released in the west. First off the kiddies on the covers is a major turn off. Plus I always had a sneaking suspicion these games had a town involved where you had to have endless dreary conversations with NPC's. Boring! The Torneko spinoffs looked like something I could try and I'd rather dungeon crawl than town talk, that's for sure. The Slime Rancher spinoffs looked decent too and at least you get a gun. Probably the Dragon Quest/Warrior game I'm happiest about owning is Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime because I have a large collection of tank games and it's an unusual addition. Seems like most of the Dragon Quest/Warrior games I have are on handhelds. What a pity! Can you imagine just loving the Michelangelo frescoes on the roof of the Sistine Chapel but the only way you could see them was on postage stamps. How sad the lot of portable handheld gamers indeed.
I'm a sucker for game remakes, hoping modern updates might streamline gameplay of a game I'm probably never going to play anyway. But whereas some people would never own a game they won't play and others would never keep a game they don't like, I on the other hand see a bare patch on my wall and think I'd rather see these games there than that bare patch on my wall any day!
On a side note, in reviewing my assortment of Dragon Quest/Warrior games I couldn't help but notice that I don't have any on a Sega console. Was Sega turned off by the kiddie covers too or was there something more to it than that?
