I'm curious, just where exactly was this bookstore? Might be able to find out what nearby companies had licenses to develop for PS2.

And any info on copy protection found in those books might be quite valuable to the homebrew scene...

There's a ton of developer studios around here. I've personally been to 2 big ones (Id and Gearbox). We have a pretty active commercial gaming community.

I've seen other copies of these around before so I'm sure the info contained in them is in the hands of the people that can use it. It was more just an interesting find in that I wouldn't expect to see something like this outside of a developer's hands. Especially for a still commercially supported platform.

Not a great deal but I don't think I overpaid in the long run but I paid $100 for the lot, all complete with manuals and in good shape from Trader Jon's. Wanna play spot the rarity and how much is it worth off of Ebay?

Well, I finally got a bunch of stuff at the local Gamestops...

From the other day:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/DSC04958.jpg

All four games are in great shape. This was around $20...

And from today:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/DSC04960.jpg
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/DSC04963.jpg

The total? Around $40! I -almost- bought Catwoman for the Gamecube, but the disc had a rental store sticker on it. :(

But now comes the problem - how the hell am I going to take all these games back to Mexico? Customs is going to have my ASS if they even get a whiff of these...

But now comes the problem - how the hell am I going to take all these games back to Mexico? Customs is going to have my ASS if they even get a whiff of these...

Well, I've made alot of trips and bought alot of stuff in the US in my day. But I imagine taking things to Mexico is alot different than taking things to Canada. But here's some tips on what I do.

-Always leave price tags on. That way they can't say things like "videogames are worth 90$"
-Keep an envelope. Write down EVERYTHING you buy on it. I even go so far as to say from what and categorize it with "stores""flea markets" etc. Total it up when you're done. Show this to them.
-Put ALL receipts in the envelopes. Only exceptions - things you ate. Do not try to eat the games, however.
-and MOST IMPORTANTLY, know what your limit is. You are allowed a limit of spending based on how long you were in the country. For example, you can spend $1000 if you stay for two weeks. If you end up spending $1200, you declare that extra.

All else fails, cover everything with a blanket and gun it for the hills.

Good luck!

Put disks in a carry-on binder case, next to a portable cd-player. Say you were visiting a friend and brought some games to play. SHIP the cases.

I'm testing out a bunch of these games, and... god some of them suck. I'm returning Fur Fighters (It's a port of the DC version? Dammit!) and that Yuu Yuu Hakusho game.

I didn't think I'd ever find a game which sucked more than Legend of Success Joe... but I did. :x

I also thought FPS games on a console would be fine, but... ick. Gimme my keyboard + mice combos plz. :(

the rest are common to uncommon, nothing of a particuarlly high value.(other then mario world 2 obviously)

I'm currently in Ohio visiting some friends. I found the games here and thought I'd try selling them on the local Craigslist rather than taking them home with me. So far, not much interest.

Just so you know, you won't be able to sell them around here unless you get really lucky. I've seen a lot of good stuff at good prices not sell at all around here, I've given up completely trying to sell on CL too, I couldn't even sell an NES with hookups and 10 great games for $25.

Hmm, okay. Congrats on your find, 98PaceCar.

Anyway, for the first and perhaps last time, I tried to post a pic of today's finds but the file size of the pic was too large. Oh well.

Here's what came in the mail and what I found in-store:

Ebay - $36 total from Buy It Now - all complete for Japanese PS2
Simple 2000 Series Vol. 91: The All*Star Kakutou Matsuri aka The All*Star Fighting Festival
Simple 2000 Series Vol. 94: The Akachampion: Come On Baby aka Come On Baby
Simple 2000 Series Vol. 105: The Maid Fuku to Kikanjuu aka The Maid Outfit & The Machine Gun

Gamestop
The Monkey King - The Legend Begins (Wii, new & factory sealed, not GUTTED) - $14.99
Mole Mania (GB, loose) - $1.79

The actual total after spending my store credit for both items at GS was $3.69. The girl working behind the counter told me (a) how much she hated to gut games and how boring it was to mass-gut dozens of titles at once and (b) that, believe it or not, original Game Boy games don't fit into the Nintendo DS. I let her know I'd been gaming for over 27 years and was fully aware of all the Game Boy hardware variations and owned most of them, and she finally shut up. That was the best part of the GS transaction.

Toys R Us
Lost Planet (360, new, non-Platinum Hits) - $7.98
Zack & Wiki (Wii, new) - $7.98

It was astounding to find that copy of Lost Planet shoved behind four copies of the new re-released version of Lost Planet since the store looks like it's been wrecked by clearance hoarders.

Very Disappointing few months for me game wise. the goodwills here are gutted and left with nothing. Best thing I've found at goodwill was a piss yellow NES system with no cords or anything and a huge crack down the middle on top.

the flea market near me is selling dreamcast games for a horribly insane price...Soul Calibur for 89.99 and Marvel vs. Capcom for 89.99...My legs turned into Jello when I saw the price.

They also have Power Stone 2 for 59.99 which I thought about because I'm very desperate to have a good reason to finally hook up my dreamcast. Its my fav. system yet I have no good games for it. I will go back this weekend and try to haggle the price down to $40.

My only finds are...

Pokemon Yellow gameboy with box (not the game but the actual Gameboy) - $10

Tron: Maze-a-Tron Intellivision game sealed - $6

----$2 per NES game----
Battletoads
Metroid
Kid Icarus
Adventure Island 2
Star Tropics
----$2 per NES game----

Donkey Kong Country 2 with box, manual and all the extras the game came with plus a poster. Everything is in amazing condition They were selling it for $25 but the woman gave it to me for $15 since she always sees me down there picking through the piles of NES/SNES games they have

not the greatest deal but I bought siren for $10 bucks, my friend and I have been looking for it because we love those horror games so when I found it I couldn't turn it down.

Mom came through again while garage saling. Too bad she has to ship everything to me now...

First lot: $1 each
Mario 3
Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular (it's getting harder and harder to find NES games I don't have)
Super Mario All Stars
Donkey Kong Country 2

Second lot: $55
Mario 64
Zelda Ocarina of Time + Brady, Nintendo Power, and Prima guides
Zelda Majora's Mask + 2 Nintendo Power and 1 Prima guide
Banjo Tooie
Bomberman 64

Mario Sunshine + Nintendo Power and Brady guide
Wario World + Nintendo Power guide
Zelda Wind Waker + Nintendo Power and Brady guide

Mario Party 8
Happy Feet
Zelda Twilight Princess + Nintendo Power and Premiere Prima guide

That's a lot of Zelda guides. I guess this person liked to be thorough. I don't even have a Wii, but I guess now I have a reason to get one.

I picked up five GameWave DVDs in a markdown bin at Toys 'R Us in Monroe, LA, all around $5 to $10 each. I can finally use my GameWave DVD player!

Today I hit a bunch of thrifts in Shreveport, LA but came up empty other than Zaxxon 3-D and Rescue Mission for the SMS, still shrinkwrapped. And Paint-A-Dinosaur for the NES, loose. All $3 each.

Thanks, DigitalSpace, but that's if it's more work than actually finding the finds, I'll stick to just typing these lists out. When I finally decide to sell some of my excess doubles, I might use that imageshack site.

Here's more finds from my travels out in the boonies today:
Blockbuster (buy 1, get 1 free)
Burnout Revenge (Xbox, no manual and in rental case) - $9.99
Chromehounds (360, no manual and in rental case) - $9.99
Manhunt 2 (PS2, complete in rental case) - free
Spider-Man: Friend or Foe (PS2, complete in rental case) - free

Gamestop
Forza Motorsport (Xbox, complete but disc was surprisingly mint!) - $3.69
Kuon (PS2, complete) - $6.19
Nintendo World Cup (GB, loose) - free
Survival Kids (GBC, loose) - $3.69
Trouballs (GBC, loose) - $2.79

After trading in the copy of Chromehounds with another cheap Wii game to pay for the Gamestop purchase, I still have $3.79 in store credit left.

Goodwill
50 Cent - The Massacre CD - $3.25
Tekken 3 (PS1, Greatest Hits, complete) - $3.25

I also saw Ready 2 Rumble and Wild 9, but I already own those, so I left 'em. I was po'ed when I later discovered the 50 Cent was edited. :(

Toys R Us
GameCube 251 memory card (new) - $3.98 (can't seem to have enough of these!)
Geometry Wars DS (DS, new) - $7.98
Spider-Man 3 (PS3, new) - $7.98

Geometry Wars wasn't marked on clearance and there was one lone copy of Spider-Man 3 that the guy behind the counter didn't know was in the store. Otherwise, he probably would have bought it himself.

Ladies and gentlemen, my 19th PS3 game...and I still don't own a PS3. Someday...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3072/2679255374_fb7a068b42.jpg

Tonight's finds at Play N Trade...

Golvellius - $5
N64 Memory Pak (yellow, no label, 160something blocks) - $5

He had the memory pak marked as a rumble pak, while the other memory paks were $9-10. He didn't seem to care, and I just want to be able to save on the Quest 64 and Hybrid Heaven I bought from him last week.

Golvellius is complete, with manual and After Burner/games poster. Definitely a "hidden gem." It's like a linear Legacy of the Wizard, no wait, it's like Zelda and Chrystalis combined, no wait, it's a vertical shooter with swords... Whatever it is, I like it!

at garage sales,

first house i went to, i saw a tall stack of ps2 games, they were all mostly sports though, 1 suikoden and one metal gear, the rest sports, so i passed on the games but they had a system in nice condition asking 20, so i grabbed that.

they also had a dreamcast with 2 controllers and like 5 games, asking 20.

i offered 30 for both, got them both for 35. Pretty good deal.

they wanted 60 for about 20 ps2 games, but like i said sports stuff.

also got a taylormade driver, he said he paid 400 a year ago, i paid 10.

I almost forgot, at a different sale i got 5 gamecube games for 15, they were marked 5 each.

Mom at another garage sale.

Silent Hill black label $3
Resident Evil 2 black label $3

She called from another sale that had around 40 Playstation games. At that point I got pretty excited, because there's got to be something good in there right? Maybe a Final Fantasy or two? Nope, the best thing was Tomb Raider, and that's not saying much. Ah well, can't complain since I got Silent Hill finally.

Not really a find, but I returned most of the games I'd bought earlier in the week - and I was told by the employee that I am forbidden to buy something and then return it for a year.

How's that sound? *bashes head on desk*

Oh, and the guy refused to give me credit... he said he'd return the money to my credit card. Blargh. I wanted to buy something they had there and he wouldn't listen. Screw you, random white guy from Gamestop in Tennessee. :(

Hey, my local Blockbuster went to the trouble of searching the back room for Brawl on release day, searching out the shipment, and calling the manager to find the key. All that, just because I asked if they got it in, and with a smile too.

Then again, I haven't rented in this current decade, so not much other experience with them.

Would have multiquoted but you posted while I was reading the thread...

Gamestop, in my experience, has been a model company for returns. I got a PS3 controller at the Gamestop on my way home from work, and the buttons were unresponsive. I returned it to the nearby shopping center Gamestop, got store credit toward a different model.

More recently, I picked up XBox MGS2:S from the upstairs Gamestop at the mall I hang with friends at, and the disk was BLANK, as in, it wouldn't even show the "this disk is to be played in XBOX" video in other stuff. The other local Gamestop close to my house swapped the disk, let me keep the case I had already started peeling the stickers from. There's too many GS locations near me, but they're all friendly.

I'd definitely submit a complaint to the company, because they have a clear and universal return policy. In today's pirate-infested climate, they still let you return used games, no questions asked, within a week. New games, I could understand their policy on if they didn't gut cases, but even new accessories are returnable, even if not defective. The store number is on your receipt, if you go through with a complaint.

Hm. I probably will. I did want to buy some new stuff at that same store with the credit, but eh. They lost my sale.

Luckily I kept the receipt. I'll send a complaint later.

Now someone post more finds, dammit. :p

So today I found at a Goodwill in O'Fallon, MO... A Maxi-15 Cart with a pretty worn label and RBI Baseball 2. Both of the carts were $3 and for the NES. I don't have my NES (as I'm on vacation) so I can't tell which version of the cart it is... but either way its an R7 or R8.

Went to about a dozen yardsales around town and didn't buy anything until the last sale that I noticed a sign for about a block from my house on the way home as it wasen't advertised in the paper. This sale had about 15 last gen games mostly PS2. Chibi Robo was marked $5 and the Stone Cold book was marked $2 offered $5 for both which was taken.

Picked up quite a few Xbox 360 games over my vacation last week. I have spent about $160 total. Here is what I got:

GameStop:

Madden 07 Hall of Fame Edition
Wartech

Toys R Us Clearance

Meet the Robinsons
Open Season
NHL 07
NCAA 2K7
Earth Defence Force 2017
Thrillville Off The Rails (not on clearance, just really cheap, $9.99)
Tony Hawks American Wasteland
Samuari Warriors 2
Virtua Tennis 3
Winning Eleven 2007
Blue Dragon

Blockbuster Video

Devil May Cry 4
Nascar 08
Virtua Fighter 5 Online
Blacksite Area 51

I know I forgot a couple from the TRU clearance, but this put me over 100 games on 360. I really need to focus on regular xbox since I am about half way there, but it's hard when you find so many cheap 360 games.

Then I went to another persons area and they had a bunch of books for snes and there it was the Secret Of Mana book as well as other snes books and a couple of ps1 games which i bought for $1.00 each (Medievil, Tekken 2, Jet Moto) The girl gave me all the game books for free she siad "you can just have them"

The nes controller was also $1.00 I couldn't pass it up.

Zelda was $5.00 complete with book the N64 books I paid $1.00 for all of them.

I hit a few thrift stores along I-20 in north Louisiana yesterday. I ended up with a Sega Dreamcast carrying case for $3, a caseless Rogue Trip for the PS1 for 99¢, and a loose Space Invaders for the original GameBoy for 99¢. Later I went to the Bonnie and Clyde Trade Days (a flea market not too far from where the duo were ultimately gunned down at) and only one vendor had video games. I ended up buying Turmoil, Spacemaster X-7, and a third title I can't recall for $2 each, and a loose pink Justifier lightgun for the Genesis (to go with my original Lethal Enforcers blue one) for $4. The guy there had a few other interesting things at his booth, like a boxed Odyssey2 and an Atari Video Pinball (although he was charging something like $80 for it). Across the market I picked up a Pac-Man lunchbox, complete with matching Thermos, for $8. Nothing else there of interest. It was so hot out, not too many people opened their stands. Even the stand that sold deep-fried Twinkies was closed, and I really wanted to try one of those!

garage sales were awesome today, everything i found was at a 100+ family community sale.

final fantasy VII-$5 complete and mint

a whole sega collection, the guy had sega cd, 32x, and genesis systems, games for all of them, a boxed lethal enforcers, a menacer, a sega branded surge protector, like 3 justifers, all kinds of games and other stuff, I paid $30.

Notable games from the lot were lunar for sega cd, and warsong for genesis, also d and d for genesis. there are some others ive never heard of, they might be rare im gonna check.

Same house had zelda collectors edition gamecube $5

From other places

slim ps2 system for $35

a game boy color and about 6 games for $7

bought about 75 cds of a buy for $30, mostly classic rock with other stuff mixed in, theres no junk all good music.

30 rock season 1 sealed $2

the amazing race and apprentice season 1 sealed 50 cents each.

I almost forgot an orange game boy advance sp for $2, lol the kid said i did not think i would sell that, wow.

i bought a giant vintage subwoofer, its like a piece of furniture, for $10, lady said when she moved in it was there Its the brand bsr.

I thinks thats everything,

Combined with what i got yesterday a pretty amazing weekend.

I can not believe the stuff i was finding.

I saw so much game stuff today it was crazy.

I passed on a dreamcast system with some games, like 2 ps2 systems i passed on. A gamecube system i passed on, an xbox with games, another gamecube with like 8 games, they were asking 40 i did not make an offer. A bunch of places had ps2 games. Also passed on a game boy color with some pokemon games, they wanted 25. There is too much too list. Also one guy had an atari with about 40 games he wanted 50, and the one placed on craigslist advertised video games and i went and it was junk, i did not buy anything, it was all overpirced and a bunch of average games and some systems, it was next to the community sale.

probably the best neighborhood sale ever!

Went out to a store that sells used games for almost every system. Picked up these three SNES games:

- Mega Man X3
- Pilotwings
- Street Fighter II

Paid a total of $28 for all of them, and was happy to finally get X3. Now I just need to find X2!

Seifer's Gunblade - $40, talked him down from $50. Not the best quality metal, but it's more for the awesome factor.

Megaman OVA - $10

Evangelion 00 Prototype model - $15

Beatmania Wonderswan box - free, my friend bought the game and a WS, but says that boxes don't survive at his house.

I bought Destroy All Humans 2 for Xbox and Power Rangers 20th Anniversary for PS2 for $9.99 total at the Blockbuster buy 1, get 1 free sale. Both games were complete, although DAH 2 was in a crappy Blockbuster rental case.

After scouting the yard sales, the only game related thing I found was an Xbox system with all the cords and two of the Duke controllers for $20, but since I already own two Xboxes, I didn't bother to buy it.

30 for a genesis with cd is just an average price. If you are patient you can get cheaper. But its not that bad. They are very delicate though and it is tough to buy them without testing them.

Wow... had a weird urge to yard sale after not doing so for some time... guess it was a good idea...

$15 lot

3 loose nes games (Solomon's Key, Mappyland, Ten Yard Fight)
R.O.B. Robot (whaaaaaaaat???)
Snes System, 2 controllers and hookups (AV), 13 carts (Castlevania IV, Tetris Attack, Super Metroid, Zelda LttP, Mario All-Stars, World, Yoshi's Island, DKC 1 2 and 3, ms. pacman, Space Invaders, Bubsy, Cacoma Knight in Bizyland, Super Gameboy)

And an old Mac clone (thought it was an old pc, was going to DosBox it) with Leisure Suit Larry and Night Trap (wtf?)

Free:
Virtua Boy with no stand, 4 loose games

I replaced my Odyssey 2 RF. If you are just upset from the collecting standpoint, then that sucks, but if you are coming from the functionality standpoint, then it is pretty easy to replace. You just open the system, and plus in an rf cable where the old one was.

Bottom of The 9th (N64)
Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffy Jr.
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey '98

$3

Asking $2 a game took a buck each for buying 3 of them.

Activision Classics (Complete) (GH) - $1

IAP was a dollar. The game is mint which is nice. I've been fairly lucky finding used disc games in great shape in the wild lately.

Sega Game Gear bag - .50
F-1 Race - Free
Super Game Boy - Free

I found the Game Gear bag in a box at a seller's table IAP was .50 which I paid. They said that I could use it for a Nintendo if I wanted to (refering to one of the Game Boy systems) to which I mentioned that I still had a Game Gear, they then mentioned that they had a Game Boy game out on their table the one lady picked it up and said I could have it. They also had a Game Boy light that they were trying to find, digging though some boxes in the car the one lady found a Super Game Boy and also gave that to me but they couldn't find the light but I didn't really need it so after a little bit I told them not to worry about it has it was too hot today to be going to all that trouble.

Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 27 (In a case for Version 31) - $5

I bought this from a guy I used to go to school with and I even remember barrowing an NES game from him way back when. I asked him about how he got it and he used to work at Wal-Mart which is were he got it. $5 was the IAP price which I didn't try to shave another buck or two off of since I know him and it seemed reasonable. I actually didn't notice until after I took this picture that the game and case didn't match up :(

No pictures, but I did get a T-shirt with a custom-made bit of text on it for five bucks at the Sweetwater, Tennessee flea market.

Oh, and do yourself a favor - AVOID the game stores there. I never thought I'd see people selling stuff for a much higher price than the Mexican booth owners back in Calexico, California... but these guys take the cake. I will not pay $60 for a copy of Metal Gear Solid, $85 for a beat up Game Boy Player, $199 for Grandia 1, or $250 for a copy of Lunar Silver Star Complete for the PS1. What in the FUCK, seriously.
