Final Fantasy III for Nes

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4015/finalfantasyiii.jpg

wow, that's awesome!
could I ask you a couple questions about how you made it though?

what did you use as a donor cart?
what chips did you use when you burned the actual image?
is there any way i could get a diagram so that i could build my own?

-Super Mario Bros 2 Rev A (in 72 pins)
-PGR Eprom 27C4001 (512ko)
-CHR Ram (Duck Tales)

PRG ROM:

Bend up pins 1,2,24,30,31
Pin 22 to Pin 24
pin 1 to pin 32
pin 2 to hole 24
pin 30 to hole 1
pin 31 to hole 2

CHR RAM (use WRAM chip from another board)

bend up pins 1,22,24,30,31
Pin 24 to hole 2
pin 1 to hole 32
pin 22 to small hole in front of pin 22
pin 31 to nes pin 56 (gold pin on back of board)
pin 30 to orange diode next to C2 (in between PRG and CHR chips)

see if you can get it running and then well move onto the battery

oh, so you're using the super mario 2 method.
guh, it'll be hard to find one of those around here.
Is there an easy way to tell the 72 pin version apart from the others, aside from looking at the pin connector?

so, from what i'm getting i do it like this:
take the mario cart and take out the the chip on the right, replacing it with the chip with FF3 on it.
i swap the pins as you describe for that one.
then for the chip on the left, i take the CHR chip out of a copy of duck tales and mess with the pins like you said?

kogami

I know that a method to identify the good cartridge.
Count the number of pines :)

bartre
04-03-2010, 10:44 AM
alright, thanks!
now for my last question( for now )
in order to burn the game to a chip i just need to apply the language patch, then split out the .prg file and burn that, right?
what i mean is, there's no special patches required, right?

kogami
04-03-2010, 11:41 AM
You apply the US patch Then you cut your Rom to have two parts (CHR, PGR) with tniNES and you burn

bartre
04-11-2010, 12:49 AM
alright, well, i'm working on the FF3 cart, but i've hit a snag.
i got a copy of duck tales, but there's only 28 pins on the chr ram chip.

you said to "bend up pins 1,22,24,30,31" but even in the picture of the board you posted, there's only 28 pins on the CHR ram chip.
so, which pins do i really need to bend up and move around?

also, on the eprom chip holding the game you ran a wire from pin 16 to (i think) pin 24, is that necessary?

EDIT:

I made up a couple wiring diagrams, trying to make sure i've got everything right.

this first image is for the eprom chip, i think i've got this one figured out, i just though i'd have you double check it for me

http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr241/admin_of_all/FF3prg.gif

this one is for the chr ram chip from duck tales.
this is the one that i'm having trouble figuring out.
there're 32 spots for pins, but only 28 pins on the actual chip.
could you show me how it needs to be wired?
the 4 extra dots represent the 4 extra spots for pins on the board

alright, well i tried to get it working today.
unfortunately, no dice.
i've checked all of my connections a good 3 times, so i don't think that's the problem.
here's now i wired my chips, if i don't mention them, it was just a straight connection

prg
--------------
pins 1,2,24,30, and 31 bent up
pin 1 - no connection
pin 2 - connected to hole 24
pin 16 - connected to board and pin 23
pin 20 - connected to board and pin 24
pin 30 - connected to hole for pin 1
pin 31 - connected to hole for pin 2

holes 30 and 31 are not connected to anything

chr
------------
pins 1,20,22,26,27,28 bent up
pin 1 - connected to pins 26 and 28, as well as the c2 point with the diode
pin 20 - connected to hole 30, the point next to where pin 1 was connected
pin 22 - connected to the hole next to the hole for pin 1
pin 27 - connected to connector 56 on the back of the cart

holes 1,20,22,26,27,28, and the original pin 1 hole have no connection

is that how it is supposed to go?

also, i want to make a couple genesis repros, namely Mega Man Wily Wars and Sonic Megamix, how do i need to prep the rom image to burn them to a chip?

bartre
04-20-2010, 02:36 PM
@Kogami
now i'm really confused, is that for the prg or the chr chip?
i'm confused because the prg chip has 32 pins, but in the diagram, there's only 28.

@Gavica
I make my labels in photoshop, it's actually pretty easy with a little time.
as far as printing them, i just order mine from Gamereproductions.com.
costs $3.50 a label, shipped.

mobiusclimber
04-21-2010, 10:21 PM
What are the dimensions for a NES label? An SNES label? Or do you have any templates I can use?

bartre
04-21-2010, 10:38 PM
blank NES Label, 300 DPI
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9dszg3

blank SNES Label 300 DPI
http://www.sendspace.com/file/r3rtc0

note that both of these are in .tif format, so you'll want photoshop/gimp to edit them.
also, as they're 300 DPI, you'll want to use a high-end printer/service.

bartre

AHA! there's my problem, i was using pins 30 and 31, not 29 and 30, for the prg chip.

for your translation, i've got a couple questions
what does it mean when it says "lands and islands"?
when it says "main sites of that country," what places are on the map?

kogami
04-22-2010, 01:17 PM
It is for the world map.

"The Land of Mana is composed of several continents and islands. This map will guide you through your journey into the unknown: it shows the main locales of each country."

That's what I would say.
although, if all the places pointed to on the map are towns/cities/etc, i would replace "locales" with "cities"

As far as my copy of FF3 goes, this is how i've got it wired right now, and it's not working.

http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr241/admin_of_all/ff3chr-curr.gif

also, i want to make a genesis repro, what do i have to do to the ROM image in order for it to burn properly to the chip, and work after i've stuck it in?
AND, does anyone have a hi res pic of something i could use for a Star Ocean label? I just finished my copy, but i don't have a label, and i can't find anything that looks nice for the front.

kogami
04-23-2010, 03:44 AM
I does not understand why that does not work the cablage is good

You also put the pile (battery) of save ?

bartre
04-23-2010, 07:31 AM
no, there's no battery on the cartridge, but i'd figure that the game would work regardless, as if the battery were dead.

the only other problems i can think of are that the image on the prg chip is bad, or that the chr chip is not the right one.

when i turn the game on, i get nothing, just a blank screen, and i'm trying this on my toploader, so it's not the system

are there any other games that the chr chip can come from besides duck tales? is there a specific chip that i need, or will any version of the CHR chip from duck tales work?
the one i pulled out of my copy says ""KM6264AL-10 941N KOREA"

A suggestion: have someone who speaks/writes English fluently do the wording for the backs of your boxes. Everything looks great and very professional, but then the write-ups on the back look like they're straight out of babelfish (no offense). Fix that and these will look like the real deal.

No, kogami, no offense but the text on the back of the box is NOT in "fluent" English. In fact, some of it doesn't even make sense at all (not just grammatically incorrect, but it's just words strewn together that don't mean anything). Trust us, we are native English speakers.

The line in red that I couldn't make sense of.... doesn't really translate/mean anything sensible. It says "The radiance of this (or: these) stars, in the heart (or: in the mind)." So I guess a fair translation would be "These stars shine brightly in our hearts." or something like that.

The line in red that I couldn't make sense of.... doesn't really translate/mean anything sensible. It says "The radiance of this (or: these) stars, in the heart (or: in the mind)." So I guess a fair translation would be "These stars shine brightly in our hearts." or something like that.

Excelent !!
Thx

Now if someone can find/make a solid translation of the manual

That would be good

At the moment I work on the manual of Tales of Phantasia in French

My brother is a linguist in the Air Force for Chinese, though his major in college was Japanese. I can ask him if he would be willing to help. I would need some scans of what you want translated. If you are interested please send me a private message and I will see what I can do.

pm :)

If it were, wouldn't there be a flood of Fire Emblem Thracia's on the market? Actually, it probably IS possible, which is not a good thought.

that's a good point
but thracia has a whole set of stuffs (including sticker etc) coming with, not just the cart itself. So maybe it's not worthy enough from a collecting point of view.

do you have any ideas on how to do that?

Kogami, would it be possible for you to post the template (or whatever you want to call it) for the Nightmare Busters box and manual? I'd like to translate them into English and print them out.

kogami, I'm pretty sure the english version of the DBZ characters name mentioned on your box is "Vegeta", not Vegeto. Also I'm not really sure what you're trying to say with "outmatching the original work"

Agreed, that does sound a bit akward in English. You could say, "Introducing three dimensional battles, a huge improvement over previous DBZ titles!" or "Introducing three dimensional battles, a great improvement to classic the DBZ fighting style" or something of the like.
