Yesterday I picked some things up from my old buddies swap shop. Sadly, today is his last day in business. The economy is bad around here and he's getting a bit old, so my favorite used game/dvd shop for the past twelve years is gone. He had 3600 used dvd's priced at $1 each and 5000 used vhs for .25 cents apiece and the locals were having a field day on those inventories. Anyway I picked up:
Soul Calibur II (GC) $5
Pokemon XD: GoD (GC) $5
...and a box full of old controllers, cables and power supplies including 18 NES controllers, 4 Dreamcast controllers and a Virtual Boy controller. There were also some N64 Rumble Paks and a few Genesis power supplies. He told me to just take whatever I wanted from all this junk.
Local Goodwill had Sonic 2/Tails (GG) for $1.50 which I bought.

Valkyria Chronicles guide - Free
This got pennied at Gamestop on Thursday but I didn't notice until Friday which usually means I missed it. I called the closest shop and they told me they had one, though, and they'd hold it for me. I drove through nasty rain and horrible traffic but didn't mind because I really wanted this guide. I got there, asked about it, and the lady picked up a Valkyrie Profile DS guide... crap. The other guy working noticed the mistake and told her to check in the back as the guide had been pulled. She looked and didn't find anything. At this point I'm pretty bummed because it was miserable outside and I had really wanted that guide. The guy told me he would check in a minute after some customers left. That took about ten minutes. Finally he was able to go back, only to emerge twenty seconds later with my guide! Hooray!
I'm not crazy about Gamestop's business practices but these two particular workers were great.

Im really sorry your freind lost his buisness :sob:
He always said that he would close up the first time (month) that he failed to make enough money to cover rent. February he failed to cover so March was it. He was a great contact for me especially up to about two years ago when our town had a Gamestop open up. He did about 90% of the used game business in town up to then. He always held all cart trade-ins (NES, SNES etc.) for a few days for me to come in and pick what I wanted. That equaled to 10 Chrono Triggers and 6 Earthbounds over the years among lots of other goodies. All the old carts were $5 each unless they were Mario related and those were $8-$10.
A funny story: I remember being in the store after work one hot day a few years ago bullshitting. The owner had a case full of knock-off Oakley sunglasses. A gentleman walked in and looked around the store for about ten minutes and then asked about the glasses. He then asked if there were anymore in the store. Afterward he produced credentials explaining that he was an Agent with the US Secret Service and that he intended to confiscate the glasses. The owner, having recently finished up a period of misdemeanor probation for unknowingly buying some stolen audio equipment, didn't need any more trouble so he gladly let the fella take'em. He confiscated them and took them to his car and then came back inside and bought some used dvd's. I suspected the whole thing was a scam until I ran into the guy several months later and had a talk with him. He was in the Secret Service and actually lived close to me. He had been in the store that day looking for some movies when he noticed the glasses. He said he could have turned the matter into a real headache for my buddy but he figured since 99% of the shop was legit he would cut him a break. I guess those sunglasses are sealed inside a box and sitting next to the Ark of the Covenant in some underground warehouse right now...

Just got home with it. The ad (http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ele/1096312423.html) went up at 12.59 pm, I was lucky enough to see it and email at 1.17 pm, and I picked it up about 2 pm (25 min. away). TV works, obviously has the broken 'foot', and I can get a blinking blue screen or solid blue screen. Should be able to nurse it back to health.

Considering I paid double what you paid just for the Sharp black Nes controller I'd say you've got the deal of the month, if not the year. Congrats.

Thanks! This was one of those items I'd seen other people find and pretty much dismissed any chance of ever finding myself. I didn't know about the remote, since I haven't seen one in anyone else's find before, but it is definitely a dedicated one, as it has a game on/off button (which works!).
Can't claim find of the year, or even month. I think so far that is going to the Vectrex score that was recently posted. Not complaining!

FLEA MARKET
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/MISC%20PICTURES%202/49f2e87e.jpg
With the Rain I thought it would be rained out but it wasn't....At least 100 vendors of new and old stuff..Still with that many vendors I don't find much..
The ground in the lot was very wet and the dirt areas muddy..Really sucked for the vendors. One vendor who I know, his spot was filled with an inch of water. He usually lays items on the ground but couldn't ..He was forced to put items on a small table..Sadly the market staff would not let him take one of the empty dry spots..(as there were several)
Truthfully the flea market lot security staff are a bunch of lazy idiots that would not move a muscle to help a fallen old lady..In fact>Little old lady lost needed directions to get to the highway and none of the 4 standing around security staff would help her, they were too busy chit chatting....I helped her..
I wanted to say something to them.."what good are you"but I'd not win..
.......
The first vendor I ran into had there Nintendo/SNES games..
2 for $5.00 or $19.00 for the lot.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/MISC%20PICTURES%202/9669868e.jpg
Then I found this on his table..$5.00
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/MISC%20PICTURES%202/e4b7357e.jpg
NES Pala Medes $3.00
The Vendor had 4 NES games..$3.00 Each,or Two for FIVE.
He says,"if you take all 4 games I'll give you a good deal"
So I say Ok..He says $12.00:whip:
Nintendo SP $5.00 Works..
Nintendo 64 Mario Kart $1.00
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/MISC%20PICTURES%202/955f9578.jpg
3 Nintendo Decks
Super Nintendo Deck
Wires..
Super Mario World
$40.00
At first the decks were BARE on a table for $40.00 with some loose Snes,Genny boxed games.
I asked the vendor if he had the hook ups/controllers and he pulled out a Crate filled with a mess of tangled wires.(and games)
I asked if I took all the wires out if the price would be the same..He walks over and takes all the games off the decks and says yea.(but no games)..I have been bitten this way before so I ask before digging out wires.
So I dig out all the wires I could find for these systems leaving Genesis wires that I could of taken..While I'm doing this he gets a BIG box and puts the decks in the box,Super Mario World was in the SNES and he must of missed it as it was in the snes when I got home..
I threw in what wiring I could and left....
Passed UP...
N64 System $35.00.
Genesis system with 20 boxed games $80.00

I'm with ya. 98% of all 8 or 16 bit games I have run across are sports games. The greatest thing I've seen in the 1.5 years I've been here was a Sega CD. I'm keeping the faith though.

Looks like I'll actually have a finds post for March! Though most of what I've been picking up lately is music, the games from Saturday:
Playstation:
Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix (C - $2)
NES:
Metal Storm (L - $1)
Star Soldier (L - $1)
Overlord (L - B2G1F, $0)
Genesis:
Elemental Master (C - $4)
Not too bad. I also ran into the guy selling me a Robotron machine and it'll more than likely be delivered next Saturday. Looking forward to it. :)

The flea market was dead today.
http://ryaan1234.googlepages.com/finds32909.jpg
I did get Castlevania: SoTN for $8, a Fine Young Cannibals CD for $1, and a Joust/Defender Gameboy cartridge (not pictured) for $1. SoTN is mint, though it may not look like it in the pic. I already have a copy (and love the game) so it's probably going to go to ebay.
The Alesis MIDIVerb II, which I decided to include in the pic for the heck of it, was $30. I bought it because I've been wanting a MIDI rack to use. It has a built in effects processor and I'm not sure what else it's got. It's kinda boring actually but maybe I'll use it. The price was fair at $30. I can get about that much for it on ebay.
I do want to thank videogamerdaryll. I've seen him buy those Canon Powershot cameras before and I saw one at a garage sale for a whopping $2 a few weeks ago. It's 6 megapixels and I used it to take this picture. I probably wouldn't have thought to buy it if I hadn't remembered someone on here buying one.
That's about it. It was a little cold today and there just wasn't much at the flea market. I was hoping to find a NES game or two, but it seemed like it was just SNES stuff and newer today.

It's an R5 in the DP guide, but you can usually find a few copies on Ebay at any given time. Nevertheless, most A.V.E. games are at least uncommon, so it's a nice find to have, especially for the price.

Picked up a Pioneer LD-700 laserdisc player off of craigslist. It was offered to me for free. The player was in excellent shape (with remote, several movies including Princess Bride). I gave him $10 for holding it for me.
In the past two weeks, craigslist has been very kind to me. I got a massive Xbox haul on Friday, a "free" laserdisc player today, and found a nice new job w/ benefits (easily beats the temp positions I have had for the past six months).

Yeah, I figure I'll use LaserDisc to fill the holes in the movies I want to get now. I love how the remote has a dial rather than a button for fast forward/rewinding, it's so much better than a VHS.
I'm going to get some movies today. I think they had some Star Trek/Star Wars LDs.

I had a VCR with a dial on the remote. It sure looked cool, but it was a pain to use. I think you could only auto-rewind or fast-forward when the tape was stopped.
Does that dial work with the frame-by-frame feature that I've heard about on LD?

- Gameshark (Playstation (Version 3.3). Mint w\ instructions): Free
- A box containing Office XP Small Business Edition and various Dell OEM software (Including 2 copies of Windows 2000): $10
I honestly never knew there was a Golden Axe II, so I had to scoop it up. Also, the OEM software will come in handy since I have an old Dell desktop from around that time I still use regularly (Who says you can't get by with a 866Mhz single-core x86-based processor in a world of 2Ghz dual-core 64-bit processors?).
Might be going back to get (At Gamestop):

(Who says you can't get by with a 866Mhz single-core x86-based processor in a world of 2Ghz dual-core 64-bit processors?).
You could also try a flavor of Linux like Ubuntu that should work well on that too. I have a similar machine with the latest Ubuntu and although its not a super speedster, I can do everything I can with a similar XP machine.

I do have a copy of Ubuntu, though I really can't use it at all (While Windows will allow it to run at 1024x768, which the monitor can support, Ubuntu forces it to run at a resolution so high, the text is too small to read. No matter how many times I tried to set it to at resolution where the font was at a readable size, it would change back to that crazy high resolution by the next boot)
Anyway, I'm getting too far off topic. Continue posting your finds, guys.

I had a VCR with a dial on the remote. It sure looked cool, but it was a pain to use. I think you could only auto-rewind or fast-forward when the tape was stopped.
Does that dial work with the frame-by-frame feature that I've heard about on LD?
Nope, that's a button.
Well, I got my first LD. Forrest Gump. Odd, I thought I had this movie on some other format somewhere, but I guess not. Ah well, I have it now.
Oh, and I got Battletoads and Excite Bike from the same Goodwill I got the LD from. They had a bunch of other ones, but they were all $8, not $4 like Forrest Gump. NES games were $3 each.

(Who says you can't get by with a 866Mhz single-core x86-based processor in a world of 2Ghz dual-core 64-bit processors?).
I found that my 266mhz Hewlet Packard Pavilion 8260 with 96mb SDRAM has no trouble browsing the internet via a wireless B adaptor. Old PCs are plenty powerful, it's the software that gets slow.
I found a few things today... Few CDs at Salvation Army, including an album from Dschingis Khan (Moskau! Moskau!...). Been skipping Good Will, that place stinks like cleaning fluids and I haven't found anything good there for a while. Nothing at the library bookstore, started thinking I was going to have a crappy hunt today.
I get to my church's thrift, and see this big... thing over by the electronics. It looks like a computer monitor with doors on the front. The doors are actually folding speakers, and it's a TV shaped like a PC monitor. Looking at the back, I see TWO video inputs, a video OUTPUT (I guess for PC video capture), and TWO coax inputs, one specifically for GAMING. The TV is a Samsung GX, and it's got some white paint splatters all around, and it's covered in dust, but it works GREAT. It was $15, and it was worth every penny. The left speaker doesn't work, but the price tag said so anyway, and I can try replacing it. However, having a headphone jack kinda kills the need for speakers, since I now have it hooked into my PC's line-in.
I lugged the darn thing around while I checked the CDs and vinyl, and happened to find Sonic 2 cart+box for $1, not an NFR edition. Lastly, saw some unopened cables in the messy electronics bins, and found two 5-pin din cables, like SMS/Genny1, $0.50 each, and there were two.
I haven't taken pictures yet or cleaned the TV up yet, mostly because I have to study for my chem test tomorrow, but I'm dying to properly calibrate it and check that speaker. Maybe later tonight. Screw RGB, this thing rules.

I found a loose copy of Earthbound today. It was expensive, but I'll probably never find another one again in my area. Plus, I'm already enjoying it, and definitely a nice addition to my SNES collection. It was in good shape too, near perfect label, just a little sticker residue, nothing Goo-Gone won't fix.

So there's a guy on a local used stuff site with 20+ Gamecubes all with power and AV cables. I'm (stupidly?) thinking of buying them all up. He's asking $10 each.
Thoughts?

That or the guy wants to get them out of his house. Cause barely anybody wants a Gamecube these days.

Except where I live.
People sell them for $60. And they always sell.

Unless you want to build something out of them, I'd avoid that deal. Even if they include one controller per system, GameStop charges $30 for that package, PLUS add the cost of a memory card. If you sell 20, you get $600, $200 of which was the initial investment. To make $400, it seems like a bit of work, not to mention testing.
Again, you COULD build something out of them... If you need a neat hood ornament for your car, a GameCube would look great. If your mailbox post breaks, stack about 10 of them and apply glue. If... ah who am I kidding, the only use for a GameCube at this point is for playing PSO on Schtserv or for GameBoyPlayer, and those are only because the Wii doesn't have GCN expansion slots. PSOBB is better than PSO GCN anyway...

I hate to be posting so many replies, but I finally got around to testing/cleaning the TV and uploading pictures. These pics show it before, but it's clean now.

So much for "left speaker not working." I disassembled the left speaker panel and looked at the speaker, nothing seemed to be wrong. As I moved the panel, I heard the speaker click on. A-ha! Must be the wiring. However, I couldn't see where it connected inside, as it's dark in there and I'm not sticking my hands in a recently plugged-in TV. Looking behind the panel hinge, I see that the negative wire for that speaker is completely severed, must have gotten caught in the hinge. I went MacGuyver on it, stripping the split ends of the wire and twisting it together, covering it with some tape before putting it all back together. Sounds nice now. It also fits perfectly on my desk, so I can play games while posting on DP...

Does anybody have any information on this TV? I gather that it's designed for gaming, but I'm not sure about how old it is or how rare/desirable it is. The picture is damn nice, perfect for NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. I paid $15 for it, and I'm seeing old Craigslist listings for $40~$50.

Neat TV. I've got a commodore monitor I do the same thing with - hooray for front AV jacks :D
It's mono tho - your speakers kick more ass. Though come to think of it I can probably run it into the computer klipsch set... hmm.

Went to the flea Sunday, and found some cool stuff:
Final Fantasy VII-PS1-$6.00, This includes all three discs and the instruction booklet. The discs were a little scratched. When I got home I tried Disc 1 and it kept freezing on the intro movie. So I took it to Gamecrazy and got it resurfaced and it works! Now I just need the case.
Mischief Makers-N64-$5.00, I personally don't see this one very often so I decided to get buy it again and after trading it in a few years ago. It was just the cartridge, but in good condition.
The Legend of Zelda-Four Sword Adventures-GC-$5.00, This was thrown in with some junk cd's. It was in a generic plain CD case (disc only) and it had a Hollywood Video sticker on it. It also had a sold piece of paper inside of it. I asked the seller about it and she said it was not sold. I also need a case for this one as well.
Also earlier in the month, I bought The World Never Ends for the DS, $29.99 new at Gamestop. The soundtrack to this game is awesome.

I picked it up last year at a flea market as well...a Treasure game is always a good choice. I'm still holding out hope of finding Bangai-O in the wild...

I've been seeing Mischief Makers more often recently, and the price is always $5. It's definitely worth at least that, and I know I paid more than that renting it years back.

Ooh, more TG-16: Alien Crush and Galaga 90, two of my favorites CIB - $10 each at a local retro gaming store. I'm unsure of the going rates of TG-16 games but since it seems to be a kind of rare system, I think those prices are ok.

I would buy at least one of them if they work, 10 dollars is not a bad price, and you could give it away as a gift

It was (and is) used at Gamestops. They had/have them on the counter displaying DVDs with game videos on them.
