i've never been to the tucson bookmans but i've drove past it a few times. the phoenix one is way better than the mesa one... lots of $2 nes games(not just sports games) and the intellivision/atari games are only $.50

the mesa bookmans has a much smaller selection and now charges a $1 for all atari and intellivision games. the cheapest nes game you can get at the mesa one is a $3 sports game.

both of them have a small selection of saturn games and price them about the same.

where else do you go in tucson for games and such? There aren't really any good game stores in Tucson other than Bookman's, they pretty much have a monopoly over it. The one on Speedway is pretty good, they have a pile of $1 NES, genesis, and 2600 games, and good deals on other stuff. The grant one don't expect to pay less than $5 for a game, but I find really good stuff for $5 sometimes, like a CIB mint actraiser a couple weeks ago.

There are some stores that sell other stuff too, like Metro Gnome Music, which has an ok selection. There's also Zia Records, which is overpriced on all games but really good deals on CDs and great trade in value. The best bet is to check thrift stores, pawn shops etc, and I go to the Tanque Verde Swap Meet most weeks which I sometimes find really good stuff at.

Planescape Torment / Soulbringer double pack - $2
Ultimate Might and Magic Archives - $1

Today sucked. The only good things I found were a complete copy of Brave Fencer Musashi and a manualless copy of Vandal Hearts, but the seller got angry at me. I'm not sure why! I asked for a price, he said they were $10 each (WAY over my budget). He asked, "You do know what those are, right?" And I said, yeah, I know. He looked at me funny and proceeded to ignore me.

Oh, one of the guys working with him didn't even want me to look at a copy of Zelda Collector's Edition (Gamecube). He wanted them for himself, I guess.

On a related note, I really hate it when a seller (this same guy, even) is speaking to his co-workers or with the booth owners in Spanish one moment, and then starts to talk in English after I ask for a price (in Spanish, because HE'S SPEAKING SPANISH). It's like they want to intimidate me with the damn language. It only ticks me off and / or makes me ANSWER them in English, which is better than the halfassed Latino Carlos Mencia bullshit they usually speak.

Blargh. Sorry.

VNV Nation - Of Faith, Power, and Glory - $10 at Hot Topic - Not really a find, but it was $4 cheaper there than anywhere else. It's also probably the best album I've heard in a long time, maybe ever. An absolutely beautiful piece of work.

Sword of the New World - Free

Funny story about that game... I was going to pick up that album at Best Buy, after learning that they had it in stock and that I wasn't limited to ordering from Amazon (not exactly mainstream music). By the time I got off work, Best Buy's website showed it was sold out, leaving me with Hot Topic as my only alternative. That brought me to the mall, and gave me an excuse to chill with friends in GameStop. When we walk in, one of the clerks was looking at the last (only?) copy of Sword of the New World that they had, laughing when he saw that it only rung up for a penny. When he asks what the game's like, I explain that it's a crappy MMO that went free, and the the box just gives you the stupid pirate character. We all joke around about how lame the game is, and he finds out that it's not even in inventory. As the only one that seemed to care, I got to take it, even though I didn't have a spare penny. A few minutes later, he's going through the change drawer and finds what he described as a "Mexican dime." He lets me see it, and I give it back, joking that "that's about a penny." My friend then exchanges an American dime for it...

Someone please tell me that I'm not the only one who has these silly experiences in game stores.

Today was weeeeiiiird at the flea market. All I ended up buying gaming-wse was rad racer 2 (cart only) for NES for 5 dollars. I've never seen it in the wild, yay me.

There was a hispanic woman and her son with a small van. The van contained (among other things) a ton of weapons (long rifles and shotguns, hunting calibers and configurations), 1960 Harley Davidson Panhead Parts, and sealed new in box DSI systems. The weapons were cheaply priced, the dsi's were 100 bucks and I got a few quality parts from the Harley box for about 1/10th of what they are worth. Very very weird.

Not mainstream, but probably the most mainstream Industrial/EBM act out today. ;) That said, I didn't even know they had a new album out. I'll have to pick it up.

My friend then exchanges an American dime for it... I have to ask... Do you remember what was the amount that the coin had printed on it? Because we haven't had pennies for... shit, at least twenty five years. Hell, when I was a kid the coin with the least value we could use was a 100 peso one (roughly 10 cents in today's Pesos - long story.)

Also, I don't have these experiences in game stores because the local ones have douchebags working there. :)

It's an amazing album, but it's not exactly industrial. They went with a more synthpop angle for this one, but it works out very nicely.

I didn't read it well enough, but it was darn small. Smaller than an American dime. I do remember that they had a JFK silver dollar in the drawer, which happened to have a crosshair drawn on it...

I wish people would understand that some people have anxiety and depression and their feelings get hurt easily. Today's lesson: I'm the only one who buys the comics at the library bookshop.

Church Thrift:
Doom Trilogy (Sealed, now I FINALLY own Doom) - $1
Tomb Raider Last Revelation - $2
Warcraft 1 - $1 (has the manual from some Warcraft 2 map pack)
Serious Sam - $1
Oregon Trail II - $1 (I remember some bad acting in this...)
The Joy Electric "Unelectric" - $2 (synthpop unplugged...)
N64 Memory Pack - $1

Goodwill:
Tapes - $3.something

Library:
Box-O-Comics - $28
-82 Robotech (various sequel series)
-Record of Lodross War volume 1 in issues, volumes 4, 5, and 6 in paperback, so I'm just missing volumes 2 and 3.
-A few random other comics
-Pack of bags

This is the same box that I asked about a month or two ago, nearly untouched. I asked if they'd go lower than $0.50 each ($60+ for the box), and they said come back in a week and give them a chance at the marked price. I haven't been there since, as I figured they'd be half gone. I passed on the box of X-Men comics that was in the back room. They asked for my name and number, so I'll be getting calls if they get more donated.

I thought I was going to get into American comics, but I find that I like the 80s and 90s advertising a LOT more than the actual stories. For example:

Yeah it is bragging rights for me for the system. Though since your in Japan how hard is it to find one? Around here in Washington state its hard to find stuff like this unless you go the ebay route. This is the second one I found in this state of Washington, first one in box well...the second NEO GEO in box the first one was the hand held.

2nd stop (Rescue Workers) - First time I've actually found anything worth buying at this store

Super Scope Receiver - $1
Double Player Receiver - $1 (http://www.nesplayer.com/database/accessories/doubleplayer.htm)
SNES 1st Party AC Adaptor - .50

5th stop - New consignment shop in town. I offered $2 for Super Mario World which was taken (asking $3)

I haven't had too much luck during this hotter than hell summer, but I did see some interesting stuff today:

Thrift store:
Genesis with 2 controllers, power, r/f cable and two games (Golf and Madden) for $16.16
Gameboy Color - purple with ac adapter and Frogger in the slot $16.16
Random Playstation games - all for $3.43 each and I passed - nothing great.

I really wanted the GBC but not for that price.

Yesterday I picked up a MINT Pokemon version Gameboy Color that looks literally unplayed. I paid full price for it ($17.99) but I rarely come across these that aren't worn out. No box or docs, just the system.

I stopped by a Movie Trading Company location in Ft. Worth and bought Quick Step, Frogger, Othello, and Donkey Kong Jr. for the Atari 2600 along with a 6-port cartridge multiplier. The games were $1.99 each and the multiplier was (amazingly) $4.99. The sales girl mentioned to her co-worker that she was wondering when someone was going to buy that thing.

Othello and Frogger look to be replicas, pirates, or just some kind of budget Mexican releases. I don't know if the Mexico branch of Atari licensed Frogger and put it in a standard cart shell. Anyone have any info on these games? They also had a 2600 Jr. boxed in their console display case with Spanish (or Portuguese?) stickers on it, which seemed to be just a regular US version box.

I noticed that you're sadly deprived of crappy sports games. I have a stack in my for-sale pile that I'll be listing soon, should you wish to rectify this travesty. :P

At any rate, THAT'S how you start a Genesis collection. It would be a PERFECT start if you had a few CD fighters and an arcade stick.

I went with a friend to see Transformer tonight (there's no "s" at the end of my ticket stub, so that's what we're calling it), so that meant hanging out in Play N Trade for a while. Picked up Parasite Eve black label for $10, including the demo disc. Discs were all pretty scratched, but they resurfaced them, seems fine.

I hit up the goodwill and 2 thrift stores today, there was nothing at my first stop,

The next thrift had angel seasons 1 2 3 and 4 on dvd marked 7.95 each. They had a tbr sticker which means toys, books, and records, its weird how they do it, toys were supposed to be half off if not red tags, these had yellow tags so i asked if they were half, she said they are not supposed to be but ill run it that way, the boss wont know, i was very happy about that. so for 3.98 each i got all 4 seasons,

At the same store i found a super nintendo system in a bag with 2 controllers the plugs and super street fighter II for 9.95, so i grabbed it. The system is a little dirty but should clean up nice.

I hit up goodwill last and got a 4 cd box set of the doors for 6.99, its a big giant box with a big book inside as well. And i also got star trek generations for pc, its new and sealed, it was 3.99

Im pretty happy on the day.

Shit you not I found the deal of the century last night on Craigslist.

6 NES games and 3 "unreleased" games for $25. I asked, found out that they had a buddy that used to work for Nintendo and had given them some old games that "mostly work". I immediately left to pick it up (at 10:30 last night no less). Come to find out that the 3 unreleased games were honest to god protos and one of the 6 games was also a proto as well. Also, even though I don't really collect screw variants, most of the games were 5 screws of games that I already own 3 screws. The games themselves are some of the nicest non-boxed games I've ever seen.

Included for $25:
Zelda - 5 screw
Metroid - 5 screw
Ghosts 'n Goblins
Gradius - 5 screw
SMB - 5 screw (same as one I have but nicer)

The protos turned out to be:
Super Mario Bros 3
Strider
Final Fantasy (only checked it briefly but it seems to be half finished and the characters are SERIOUSLY buffed)

Also, the Ninja Gaiden felt too heavy and the cover was photocopied. I unscrewed it and found, yep, you guessed it... a proto for Ninja Gaiden!

YES!!!
Holy Crap! This has to be the deal of the decade!

I'd love to see some videos and or pictures about what is different with SMB3, FF and NG.

Congrats on your find!

Earlier today I picked these up:

Dance Dance Revolution: Universe 3 w/dance mat(360) $12.00
Prince of Persia(360) $14.98
Halo Wars: Limited Edition(360) $19.99

Halo Wars: Limited Edition was one of my best finds this year, mainly because of the price. It's price sticker said "was $79.99/now $55.98", but I knew that Best Buy had this on clearance a month ago for $49.99. So I took it to the price scanner and it rung up at $19.99. I actually played the demo and didn't care for it much but theres something else I can use the game for: it has the code for the Mythic map pack and I still don't have those. I'm so glad I decided not to buy them with my Microsoft points a few weeks ago:)

It was funny looking in the game case at the regular edition of Halo Wars still marked at $59.99. I stopped by Gamestop on the way home to see how much money I could get for trading this game in. They told me $23 so I can use the map pack and then sell it to them. Or I might trade it for Gears 2 or L4D. As for DDR3, my ass needs some exercise.

YES!!!

very very very very (you get the point) nice find, are their any differences in the protos from the main game?

decided to go to a couple thrift stores today hoping to come across some classic games and managed to pick up a "Dragon Cast" arcade stick for the dreamcast which after testing it a few min ago doesn't exactly work. The stick itself is unresponsive especially when pulling the stick down and some of the buttons don't seem to work exactly right. i'm not sure if its fixible or not. anyway the stick was $3.

also went by gamestop and picked up The Conduit. This is one of only a handful of times over the last couple years i've spent $50 on a single game. but i was so looking forward to it. haven't played it yet but will in just a few.

Oh, btw, at the thrift store they did have a boxed atari 5200 with what seemed to be original packaging and the original pack in game. (cant remember the name of the game).... can't be sure just how used the system was. but the box and system and everything including the controllers looked very clean. anyway the complete atari 5200 was $89.

i was a little disgusted with the prices on the used systems they had. $59 for original xbox/phat ps2....$69 for a boxed n64....i was thinking the whole time..this is a "thrift" store right? but anyway i was fairly impressed with the selection of older games and systems for a local thrift store. even had a sega saturn. i havent seen a saturn locally since the 90's. although i own 2 of em myself. but anyway thats life.

I stopped in at my local used book store to see if they had anything interesting in. When I browsed through their manga section I found two copies of The Art of Tales of Legendia. I bought the copy that was in the best condition for $5.

I flipped through the book a bit, and I have to say that the artist's original character sketches are kind of ugly compared to the in-game character designs. I think this artist may be the same one who designed the characters for the PS1 Tales of Destiny games (and a few Japan-only instalments of the series). The art for those games are great, but his ToL designs don't have the same appeal.

I don't see anything, got a link? Or am I reading a grammatically incorrect sentence as something else?

Garage sales for this friday were kinda meh.

I found a Casio Blood Pressure Monitor watch (model number BP-100) at a church sale mint and complete in the box for $5. There's one on eBay on active items at $255 so I guess I did well :) :) :)

I also got a CD-only copy of Lucasarts' Afterlife for $1. Looks like a neat old computer game.

It was in response to the person who just bought some protos.

Electroplankton for the DS complete and mint for $7.98 at Half Price Books

Wasn't expecting that one. It is a weird one, I would entertain trades on it.

I thought getting a complete Fire Emblem (2003) GBA for $24 was a good deal until later yesterday I scooped this...

I'd say this is my steal of the year so thanks Value Village.

My buddy also grabbed Super Metroid, Secret of Evermore, and Super Mario Kart all for 4.99 each at that same store. Later he found a mint grey N64 controller for nearly the same price too.

I picked up an Odyssey2 bundle today with the box for $50. Hardwired model, and I replaced the cable with a standard Atari one. Got the normal assortment of games, except for the TWO copies of Conquest of the World, one CIB with all pieces and gameboard, one loose.

I've been having a lot of fun with it, good little system. :)

I'm going to have to fool around with the games a little more to see where they differ. Like I said, I only spent a few minutes screwing around with them... going to have to look into getting a copynes now I guess :p

I couldn't believe they were legit. I figured that even if they weren't, the other games might be in better condition than the copies I already owned.

I'm not planning on releasing or selling them right now.

I will say that if I find any differences I'll be sure to post screens and/or information regarding what I find. Could be that all of them (with the exception of Final Fantasy) are release candidates.

Even if you don't release them, get them dumped! Those protos are old, and who knows how long they'll last.

YES!!!

All I want to say about this is FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK and FUCK!!!

I saw and replied to that same ad, only to get the message "it's already been sold. thanks." XD I wasn't sure if they really meant they had protos or what they were talking about but for $25 I figured it didn't matter. Now to find out THIS...

Considering I've seen cart only Contra going for $30, it's a very damn good deal.

I got a NES with about 20-25 games for $20 at a garage sale. Notable games in the lot were Donkey Kong Jr., Talespin, North and South, Dick Tracy, Super Dodgeball, and some other games. I also got Where In Time Is Carmen San Diego for NES for a $1 at a different sale.

I've currently got some stuff to do right now, so I'll put up a pic a bit later.

Yeah, I responded within a minute or two of it going up and immediately left to pick it up. I knew someone wlese would go after it if I didn't :|

Your thoughts were mine exactly. I didn't know what that meant but I figured the games themselves were worth giving it a try.

I'm sure you've grabbed some amazing deals from me before :)

That's really nice! Those are great games to find for that price.

That said, I had a killer day today. Spent entirely too much but... meh. I was going to buy a grill for the 4th but instead I bought a ton of videogames. Fair trade I guess :p
