I had a interesting surprise today

A guy i work with i have shared the fact that i collect old video games and stuff of the sorts. And hes friends with a guy who works at the local dump. At this dump we have a freebie table where people can bring in items and leave them for someone else to take and use instead of just tossing them in thrash never to be seen ever again.

And this guy found these while at work at the dump and brought em in for me thanks to the guy i work with

Beavis and Butthead Do America original soundtrack - $1
Office 2000 Standard - $1
Microsoft Visual Basic 4.0 Professional Edition (with VB 4.0 Unleashed CD) - $1

And those things at the top?

Sony DGD120P 4GB data cartridges (x3)
Sony SDX1-25C 25 GB (native) / 65 GB (compressed) data cartridges (x19)

I got these from the booth where I got Undying and all that stuff. He asked for $10 ($5 and 60 pesos...) for all of those. I got that weird feeling I get in the back of my head sometimes so I took a chance.

It turns out those 25/60 GB carts sell for $10-$30 on eBay and Amazon. O_o So um, yay. :)

Went with the wife on a long shopping trip this weekend and stopped at many flea markets, Goodwills, thrifts stores and Gamestops along the way.

NES system + 6 games including Pirates with manual = 20 bucks

N-Gage system + 11 complete games = 20 bucks

Marble Madness CIB Sega Genesis = 3 bucks

Lunar doll in box= 5 bucks

All in all, paid 130 dollars for everything in the picture. A fun day.

My first find of the month? another original Xbox game.

And since I didn't want to bump the thread, here are my last finds for July:

Game Boy:
Paperboy (cart only) - $1.99

Game Boy Color:
Pong: the Next Level (cart only) - $1.99

Not pictured below:

My first find in a while, and it's a big one. An ad was posted on the 20th of July for an Amiga 4000, and when I emailed it was still available. Here's what I got today:

Amiga 4000/040 with MS-DOS compatibility card, Video Toaster
Keyboard (not compatible?)
Mouse
A large amount of floppy disks, mostly dealing with animation, only saw one game
3x CD-ROM drive
1048S Monitor
24.4k modem

The price for it all? $25. I thought it was a typo at first and the guy wanted $250. Nope, $25. I'm still cleaning it up a little, and I think I need a few cables. I need an adapter for the Amiga 1000 keyboard it came with and something to display it on since my monitor doesn't have a DB23 port. With the RGB inputs, I could probably hack up a cable if I can get a hold of the right connectors.

Finding an Amiga around here is so rare. I will post pictures when I get it all cleaned.

So I go to the flea market. I don't find much of anything. I see a bunch of CDs in cases... they look blank. Oh wait, one says "Jet Grind", another says "NFL2K1" and another says "SDA". "Jet Grind?", I think. "Probably CD-Rs."

And then I saw the GD-R.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-08-03.jpg

I picked up the other three CDs and inspected them... they all have the Sega logo embedded in the center area of the ring. Jet Grind and SDA (Samba De Amigo) -appear- to be exactly the same as the retail releases. I haven't tested the NFL 2K1 yet, and that Daytona (Date 214, Disc. no 7) won't boot. I guess it's not self-bootable, and I need to find my bootdisc.

All of that was $5.

WHY DO I KEEP FINDING THIS SHIT

Edit:
Er... my Dreamcast is no longer loading anything. o_O The last game I tried was Jet Grind Radio... and now the drive won't load ANYTHING! The laser motor ... died.

Nice score on the DC GD-Rs, Sniper!

I have a trio of those myself: NBA Hoopz and NFL Blitz 2001, which are both on orange, printed discs, like your Daytona. Interestingly, I have Daytona, but it's on a blank disc, just like your other three. It's been my understanding that those blank, unmarked discs are generally full games that were used as demos in kiosks. That's where my Daytona came from, and it is indeed the full game.

My two orange GD-Rs won't play in my Dreamcast, either. I've been told I need some sort of special disc to get them to boot, but it's certainly not any of the standard "boot discs" commonly available, as those don't work. I read that a particular dev boot disc of some kind is necessary, but I've never taken the time or trouble to locate it online.

Well, I've had some decent finds over the past few days, although it's the non-gaming one that trumps all. First off, the gaming related stuff from the past week:

- Xbox 360 power supply (Loose): $1
- Bust-A-Move 4 (PlayStation. Complete, in very good shape): Free
- Kirby's Dream Land 2 (Game Boy. With instructions, in very good shape): $12

The copy of Bust-A-Move was a trade with a friend for the 360 power supply, which he was needing.

As for KDL2, that was on eBay. That game has managed to elude me for the past 5 years, since I foolishly sold my copy, but at last, I finally have a copy again. As exciting as that was, it doesn't beat my best find of the week...

Non-gaming finds:
- Sailor Moon binto bag (New): $15

That was bought as a gift for a friend of mine, who is a Sailor Moon fan and also very otaku. I heard her mention wanting it, but she didn't have the money, so I decided to step in and buy it. She's excited that she got that bag, while I just feel good for having done something like that.

At one of the last remaining Wherehouse stores that hasn't become a FYE...

Electroplankton is sealed and was $29.99. More than I usually like to pay for a game, but understanding that's still a fair price overall. Puyo Pop Fever was $7.99.

No problem. I was upset when my Saturn died and I had to replace it - mainly because the search for more info and games for it led to being introduced to my fiance, and also because it was $5.

But now I have a wonderful guy and a switch-modded model 2 Saturn, so it all worked out. :-)

I've had my eyes on these CDs since last Friday, but they wanted $5 for each back then. No thanks. :P

So, I got:

Black & White Platinum Pack (Macintosh, Game + Expansion)
Heroes of Might & Magic IV (Macintosh)
Dungeon Siege (Macintosh)
Sim City enhanced CD edition (DOS, published by Interplay, with the cheesy FMV acting)
Strike Commander / Syndicate Plus / Pagan: Ultima VIII / Wing Commander II CD

All for $9.

Those Mac games seem to be worth around $10-$25 on eBay, so not a bad haul. I guess.

A lot of cool stuff arrived today.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2011-08-04%2801%29.jpg

TeeFury shirt of the day from a couple weeks ago - $10.00
Great deal on KLOV forums for 10' wire x 40 pieces (38 unique colors) - $20.00 shipped
PCB mounting feet for my Tetris board from JammaBoards, also picked up a JAMMA connector since I'm out of them. That's the fingerboard pictured, the connector is being softened up on a PCB right now, need to build some extension harnesses.
ReBoot complete collection, anniversary gift from my girlfriend.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2011-08-04%2802%29.jpg

Got some frames for my posters from this year's CAX show, both from ThisOldGame.com. The show poster was limited to 100 and are individually numbered. The Video Pinball 2.0 posters were only $5.00 so I figured why not.

And not game related (unless we're talking about Activision's Space Shuttle or Space Shuttle Project on the NES) but something I've wanted for a long, long time...

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2011-08-04%2803%29.jpg

I could finally justify spending the money and figured I could help out Space Coast workers a bit so I pulled the trigger on a NASA flightsuit. Needs a little work done here and there to get it up to how I want it to look but I'm surprised at how nice it is. Also picked up a couple extra insignias at the same time...

Yay.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-08-05.jpg

There's a thread at the GOG.com forums where we basically trade games - stuff that can be activated online via keys, extra copies of games that we get with other purchases, and so on. I offered a bunch of stuff and there's this one guy that offers this card. I sent him a PM, gave him download keys for Warcraft III and the expansion, and I got this shipped to me.

So I basically got a kickass card for $4. :D

I had to airblast the hell outta it... it had more dust bunnies inside the heatsink than anything I've ever seen before, and worse, I had to get TWEEZERS to grab them and pull them out! But it looks to be in fine shape otherwise, and I'm gonna test it as soon as I shut down this machine.

FINALLY! I CAN PLAY GAMES AT MORE THAN 640x480 AGAIN!

I'm curious: When some of you call something "mint" or "minty"... you don't really think it's anywhere near mint condition, do you? I mean, I know technically the word "mint" isn't even a proper description for video games (as it was meant for coins, or some such), but in all the times I've heard someone describe something as mint, it is almost always anything but.

I know it's a little OT, but it comes up in the finds thread a lot, and I always find it a little weird, sometimes even frustrating; the last several items that I bought from auctions or forum members that were described as "mint" were so completely far off from that description, it's silly. In the world of video games, does "mint" just mean "in pretty good shape without a lot of wear"??

Today I found yet another Armitron. This is the second one I've bought in a month. It was $3.99, no idea if it works yet. Near it on the shelf was the Entex Defender handheld, also $3.99. It has a speed knob on it, to make the game faster. Why is there an analog knob on a digital device like this? Odd. The TAC-50 joystick is odd, it has an Atari style plug on it but there's a red start button on the base. I'm wondering if it's made for the SMS. It was $2.92. The Clue board game is an early version, from 1963. It only cost $1.31, bought on a whim. I picked up Dark Cloud and RE4 at the same place, both are a bit scuffed but I'm hoping will work fine. The box for RE4 is in tatters, the case is torn in half. It amazes me that people can't take care of their own stuff anymore.

Depending on who you talk to, I believe that everyone has their own grade of what condition their items are in. After all, it is not like it's official or anything  As for me, I described Mint as a way of saying that it's in superb shape (no damage, cover intact, no fading, etc.) and plus, it helps me keep track of the condition of my items if I need to refer to them at some point :deadhorse:

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x28/TUPPYLUVER95/DSCN0912.jpg

Xbox 360 joystick was $30. Mousepad was $3. Pieces on the SNES was $10. Apparently this game is cheap, but somehow rare. Not in demand, I guess? It's a fun game.

I also got a Commodore 64 uIEC/SD for $50 today, not pictured.

Oh, and here's a picture of the Amiga setup I got earlier in the week:

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x28/TUPPYLUVER95/DSCN0913.jpg

I still need some way to display video, this monitor's power button won't stay on. I think I'm getting an S-Video adapter. Price was $25 for all of it.

Steve, if you want to sell either that Defender or the Armatron, I would be interested. :)

Stopped by Goodwill this morning. Found 2 loose Goldeneye carts for 2.99 each. Also picked up a Target-return XBox Live 12 month gold starter kit, the one that comes with the chatboard, a headset, a 12-month gold sub, and 400 points. I was pretty sure that the sub and the points would be gone (box had obviously been opened/seals peeled off and re-applied) and I was right. Would have been nice to find those in there, but hey, if nothing else, cheap keyboard and headset. *shrugs*

NDS Lite Charger - 1
Pac-Man Card Game (Complete) - .25
Complete GBC Games - .75
Mixed Lot of Old Games With Some Misc - 30

The NDS Lite charger was marked 2 and took 1. The Pac-Man game & GBC games were asking price. The big buy of the day was from a plastic bin of games that was brought out when I asked about older video games, some was kept and some was sold to me. After sorting it out and what not I made an offer of 20 which was countered with 30. For the Genesis game cases - top two are cases only, next two no games, Mortal Kombat II is missing the manual and the last 3 are complete.

7 Playstation Games (1 Empty Case), GBA With Shovelware Game - 4

The GBA was marked a buck. Asked about video games lady mentioned "Nintendo" as a buzzword then the guy mentioned "Sega" but it ended up being PS1 when it was brought out. Picked out what I got and offered 3 on the PS1 games. Lone top case no game, next 3 complete and the last four are sealed.

Everything I found this weekend is "minty" ;) .............ok at least the last four Playstation games are :D

Steve, if you want to sell either that Defender or the Armatron, I would be interested. :)
There's no chance of me getting rid of that Defender, it's just too cool. One of those things I always wanted as a kid but never got. The same with the Armatron, although it doesn't work. The other one I bought last month doesn't work either, but that might be due to the massive amount of battery corrosion that's damaged the terminals. I've also got another one with wheels on it bought earlier this year, and it barely works. These things just don't make it to thrift stores in good shape, sadly. But I'm going to keep them and build them into a giant multi-armed robot monster that I'll program to crush humans and occasionally fold my towels. LOL

Who says you can't find good stuff in the wild these days? Everything is complete (other than Lost Vikings 2). And when I say complete, I mean COMPLETE. Games in plastic, all inserts, etc. The wear on anything is minimal at best. It looks like they were unwrapped and put away for 20 years. Pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

That TG-16 find is awesome...what a great feeling to stumble upon something like that.

While out garage sale-ing today, I picked up a Colecovision with 20 games, the driving controller, two sports controllers, two extra standard controllers and a few random extras thrown in for $30. They were originally asking $60 but were starting to think it wasn't going to sell, so they were ready to deal when I got there.

Not really a true find but that guy I've been buying stuff from brought out a ton of floppies. I looked them over and realized they were Amiga diskettes. It was basically a bunch of copied games. He asked me why I wasn't taking them, and I told him they were for an Amiga and I don't have the setup for it.

Then he said "Amiga? I have the system somewhere. Want it?" I stared and said "NONONONONONONONO" and ran away. Well, maybe not like that, but I really can't afford to take that home. :p And again, all this stuff came from a storage unit. Amiga, C64, Atari XE... who was the guy that owned all of this?

... I know, people here don't care about digital games, but...

Yesterday I got Darksiders for $5 (sale at GamersGate). And today, well... thanks to some trading and scheming, I managed to get the Quakecon Steam package for $35 instead of the full $70 price. This pack included the following:

Brink (with DLC pack 1)
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Commander Keen 1-5 (already owned it)
The Ultimate Doom
Doom 2
Master Levels for Doom 2
Doom 3
Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (already owned it)
Fallout New Vegas (with three DLC packs)
Final Doom
Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders (already owned it)
HeXen 2 (already owned it)
HeXen: Beyond Heretic (already owned it)
HeXen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel (already owned it)
Hunted: The Demons Forge
Quake
Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon
Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity
Quake 2
Quake 2 Mission Pack: Ground Zero
Quake 2 Mission Pack: The Reckoning
Quake 3 Arena
Quake 3: Team Arena
Quake 4
Return to Castle Wolfenstein

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition (already owned it)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Deluxe
Wolfenstein 3D (already owned it)
Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny (already owned it)

Thank $deity I sold something today or I wouldn't be able to afford this... and really, this was worth it for Fallout New Vegas and the Doom / Quake games.

Tito Ortiz: This is Gonna Hurt book $2.50
Halo: Contact Harvest novel 50 cents
Splinter Cell: Fallout novel 50 cents
Secret Codes 2005 Vol. 1 50 cents

All of these were from Goodwill. I really can't beat the price of the books there. And I've been reading alot more because of it. I was suppose to be starting the revamped version of Halo: The Fall of Reach but Tito's book only took two days to finish so now I can start Halo: TFOR. I'm not sure if I'll read the Splinter Cell novel but I had to pick it up because it's video game related and only cost 50 cents.

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC0707.jpg

Star Trek: Starfleet Command strategy guide $1.50
Halo: First Strike novel 50 cents
Good Luck Chuck dvd $3
Smallville figure $3.50

These were from a different Goodwill. The Starfleet book would have only been 50 cents but it wasn't one of my normal cashiers. But I can't really complain about an extra dollar. I can't really stand Dane Cook(who I use to get confused with Ryan Reynolds) but I'm a Jessica Alba fan and theres a few other actresses in there that I like. The Smallville figure was a pleasant surprise, mainly since I didn't know they existed. The show was on for 10 years and never had a video game. I know they had other merchandise but I never caught wind of the action figures until now. It's sealed but it has a little damage. Now I just gotta find the other two to complete my set.

- Game Boy Booster ~ $1 (Complete and in Good condition)

I didn't know these things existed for the original game boy but it still looked neat and interesting. Unfortunately, the Joystick was broken off so it was a bummer at first until I decided to do a quick modification on the thing. I took a spare PS2 controller that was not working anymore and took out the stick and place a small screw into the missing joystick area and snap them into place. This was the result:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a54/Zamioa/40bf0e89.jpg

The new replacement stick worked perfectly and plus, I used one of my universal AC adapters to power up the thing and it worked great as well ^_^

- Six old Manga magazines ~ $1 each

And lastly:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a54/Zamioa/5ca9e3d3.jpg

- Secret of Mana 2 (or known as Seiken Densetsu 3) ~ $15 (Mint condition)

This repro was brought from the same guy who sold me the Terranigma repro cart from a while ago :) Overall, I'm happy with my findings

I'm not sure if I'll read the Splinter Cell novel but I had to pick it up because it's video game related and only cost 50 cents.

The Splinter Cell books are pretty decent. The only problem is that there is a major storyline that progresses in each book, besides the main baddy/event that Sam Fisher is working to stop. So if you skip books then you're going to be missing out on that overarching story. Fallout is book 4 in the series.

You didn't say how much the lot was... Regardless, it was probably cheaper than what the Flinstones game goes for alone. Good lot period, lots of good games in there. Was Surprise at Dinasour Peak in good condition or did it have permanent marker/label tearing?

I went to a corner store about 2 minutes from my new home. There was dust on most everything on the shelves and old rental VHS tapes for sale. I looked to the left of the tapes and found a milk carton full of genesis / nes games. I grabbed all the decent non sports games - all for genny - Gain Ground, Arrow Flash, Marvel Land, Wings of Wor , Ghostbusters , and Burning Force. They are all in case with cart and photocopied manuals - a total of $12 for the 6.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-08-08.jpg
Two sealed issues of PC Accelerator (November '99, January 2000) for $4. These are from when I was -just- getting into PC gaming and boy do these bring back memories. One of them had a Gathering of Developers calendar, which was kinda fun to look at. And yes, this is from the same booth where I've been getting all those PC games. These magazines have the guy's name on the baggie... I haven't looked him up yet.

The booth also had copies of Cobra Mission and Metal and Lace: Battle of the Robo Babes, but the docs were missing so I left them behind.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-08-09.jpg
From today, CSI Hard Evidence (US version) for $2. The case is kinda beat up to hell but that can be replaced.

I also got Quarterback Attack off eBay for $6 or so shipped. What I didn't like was the fact that the seller sent this Media... in an envelope. Rather, wrapped in some sort of foam thing and wrapped in brown paper. I was kinda hoping to buy the dude's other Digital Pictures games, but if he's going to send them like this... I dunno if I should ding him in shipping or what.
