Finished Bioshock 2 this morning after giving up on it soon after it released. Started over from the beginning two weeks ago and finally watched the credits roll today. Pretty good game, not sure why I abandoned it back then.

I just finished Dead Space 2 and I'm officially one of the biggest Dead Space fanboys out there. This series is so far beyond what others are doing in single player action games, it's ridiculous.
EDIT: Just finished Child of Eden (on normal). It's easily one of my favorite games this generation (or any, really).

Just beat The Gunstringer on 360 with kinect. It's one of the best core Kinect games out there. I enjoyed my initial play thru but the camera was being retarded for more times than I would have liked. Had it stayed correct for the entirety this might have been one of the best games I've played so far this year.

I am so close the end and all I have to do is grind forever to become strong enough to get to and beat the final boss. It's so boring I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Only time I ever beat it was on an emulator with savestates and playing the game at 2x speed.

It was a chore to finish the the game for sure. I felt like I grinded (ground?) up my levels well early on, but that last dungeon really requires a few times through, then using the exit spell, saving, buying 99 more potions and going back at it. Nauseatingly boring, and just to get a few levels up, so that you have a better chance of survival. Really, I gave up on it back in January, only finished it off because I've been under the weather the past few days.
I remember hating this game as a kid. We rented it a few times, and all the bugs and lack of any instructions, in game or otherwise, really made it difficult to get anywhere. I've played a few other Final Fantasy games for other systems, but I wonder if any of the other NES ones are worth it.
I mostly play puzzle and arcade style games, so it's rare for me to beat a game. However, I would like to beat some more NES classics that were really tough for me as a kid.

1. Kendo Rage (SNES) 1/31
2. B.O.B. (SNES) 2/24
Quite challenging and not particularly good, but I've played worse than B.O.B. Not much more to say about it than that. It doesn't really deserve any hate or praise, so it's pretty well earned its largely forgotten status. Not that I feel like it was a waste of time, though. It was still a worthwhile experience playing through it.

I added Suikoden IV to my master beaten list today. I found it very annoying in comparison to the first three, but it wasn't a terrible game. It just made me mad so many times and most RPGs don't do that to me so much.

And yeah, the other two NES Final Fantasy games are much better than the first one. 2 is still kind of annoying due to the fact attacks don't automatically redirect yet, but the story and character meeting makes it far more interesting.
3 is pretty much fine as it is on NES at least when compared to 1 & 2, and that's a good thing due to the fact there aren't any 2D remakes of it. At least the game redirects your attacks when you defeat a targeted enemy before everyone makes a move. The music is also better in terms of instrumentation; the battle music actually has emulated drums and is generally the same soundfont as Rad Racer. I remember how great it was when someone finally released the full translation patch for the game.

1) Uncharted 2 Amongst Thieves PS3 - After shelving Uncharted Drake's Fortune for a year (no reason just other games to play) I did not make that mistake when I got Uncharted 2 for Christmas. Every bit as amazing as the first, now I need a price drop on Uncharted 3
2) Rage Xbox 360 - Probably the most anti climactic ending to a game I have seen in a long time. Missions towards the end also felt tedious and the game became more of a chore in my opinion.

Cross off another A-list game in my backlog. Finished Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood this afternoon. I bought it at launch but never played more than an hour or two. I started over from the beginning last week and watched the credits roll today. I may stick with it to knock out a few more achievements. The AC open-world gameplay style has always been engaging enough to me. Just running around on rooftops and collecting flags is fun in itself.

My first game of the year:
2/25/12 Dead Space (PC) - excellent game all the way through, but the last few chapters succumb to that old game-lengthening trick: "Oh Isaac, you've found what we need to get the space shuttle moving...damn, somebody disabled [blah blah]....I'm gonna need you to go find the 3 [blah blah] that are definitely not spread out in improbable places throughout the level!" Other than that...fun game!

10. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles - Genesis
Did you guys know I edited the rom hex code to allow this game to save data on the Everdrive MD? PM me if you want the fixed version.
On this playthrough as Sonic & Tails I beat the game with over 80 lives, all 14 emeralds and 9 continues. I kept doing well in those bonus stages so score and lives were quickly racked up. I finished Marble Garden Act 1 with over 500 rings! I'll play the other characters' games later but beating it with 1 mode counts as beaten for the year.

Two days ago I beat Alan Wake: American Nightmare. I liked it but could have done without the deja vu levels. It works well but I would have rather played 9 different levels. Their arcade mode(a version of horde/firefight) is a nice addition even though it's always set to a 10 minute time limit. Anyway, this may not have been the sequel I've been waiting for but it was a nice distraction until the real one arrives.

"Backlog Elimination 2012" marches on!
Finished Killzone 3 this morning. It was hard to notice the differences between this and Killzone 2 actually. Both are gorgeous looking Sci-Fi FPS's that suffer because of dumbass, hoo-rah, kill'em all plots. It's kind of funny to think at one time this franchise was hyped as Sony's "Halo Killer". Hilarious. Still a good game, but I'm glad I waited and didn't pay $59.99 at launch (especially for just the single-player).

Went through Half-Life 2 Episode 1 over the past couple days. I actually don't mind the length given HL2 was over 15 hours in the single player campaign. As such I am not too eager to dive into Episode 2 but I will get around to it one day. I'm presently working on a few games although I could be a ways off from a clear in either.

I'm very much in two minds about this one. I picked it up on a whim after reading it was something like a decent Zelda game. It's more like a game made up from the best parts of a good Zelda game and the worst parts of any God of War game. It looks great and has an amazing story, but goddamn the gameplay has issues. I guess the best way for me to put it is I don't think I'll be replaying it any time soon, but I wouldn't mind giving Darksiders 2 a try when it's released in a few months.

I'm a bit torn about these titles. While Revenge improves on things like hit detection (excluding the skeleton birds...), level design and climbing mechanics, I miss having the hidden items in levels instead of having to play mini-games over and over to get extra hearts, and the presentation is a bit lacking with a lame ending scene. I think both games would be better if the standard attack could also be done in mid-air because the spinning is just too unreliable (or maybe I just suck) when enemies crowd the screen. What kept me playing was mainly the distinct atmosphere and great music.

The controls struck me as a tad convoluted until I really got the hang of them, but I chalk that up to the language barriar and not a problem with the game itself. I find it funny that the most off Rider, Hibiki, has the least ammount of moves and has the easiest stages in the game. I can't tell if it's because he's secretly awesome of if the designers figured they may as well toss the player a bone.

I beat Mortal Kombat 9 Story Mode on PS3 today. 10 hours of fun. I beat most of it on Normal, but I had to choose Beginner difficulty for the final boss, and even then I sucked.

I remember this game being tough as nails as a kid. Always did love this game. Amazingly catchy music, interesting, if not completely frustrating at times, level design. It's a pretty good example of managable Nintendo Hard.

Off the top of my head:
DJ Hero - PS3
Comix Zone - PS3(genesis game)
God of War 3 - PS3
Megaman 5 - NES
Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3
I'm sure there have been more. I don't get to play games much with my new job. :(

What a horrible game. I'm sure most people have seen something of this game on Youtube or other places already, but playing it is a completely different experience. It's the worst part about good old fashion 8-bit repetition mixed with, of all things, a grind.

5. Susume! Taisen Puzzle Dama: Toukon! Marutama Chou (N64) 4/22
Haven't been doing a ton of gaming the past month or so. Playing through Aria of Sorrow was about my only serious gaming lately. Now I can mark off all three GBA Castlevania games. I'd probably say it's better than Harmony of Dissonance, but Aria is still annoyingly derivative and dull. It's not a bad game, but it's a total "just going through the motions" game experience. Makes you wonder "If I'm going to play a complete (and inferior) clone of Symphony of the Night, why don't I just replay that game instead?" Well, whatever, another notch on the Castlevania belt.
Played Susume! Taisen Puzzle Dama for the first time last night and ended up beating it on normal. Nothing too surprising for a puzzle game, though (especially since this is my third Taisen Puzzle Dama game). Beat it with the bishounen rock star guy after trying out all of the other characters since the way his combo animations turn into a stage performance amused me, haha.

Been playing this game off-and-on, between rentals, for the past four months. Got stuck at a particularly difficult part in the second to last level (just say it involved an "elevator"). Picked it back up for the first time in almost a month, said I would give it 5 tries and ended up finally passing the section and beating the game. Glad to have finally beat the game, but probably won't keep in my collection.
