I feel like I've gone full circle in gaming. As I've mentioned on the board many times before, I've been slowing reading through Nintendo Power in order, cover to cover, and I finally got up to the issue with the coverage of Super Mario All-Stars for Super Nintendo. I didn't have a subscription to the magazine at that point in time, but that's the very first game that I personally owned. Sure, I was exposed to plenty of games before that, but in my collection, no game has been in my possession longer. When I hold the cart, it's kind of weird to think that it all started here, as I look around at the 1200+ games and mountains of game-related merchandise I now own. Since it was the first I owned, I played the four games on this collection to DEATH, and even after at least a decade of not touching any of them, I can say that, yeah, I still am pretty well sick of them, haha. But even though I've killed them by playing them so much, making any replay mostly just a matter of going through the motions, I still thoroughly love these games and consider them among the best platformers made. Super Mario Bros. 3 is probably the best platformer ever period. Even with my extreme familiarity with it all, I still marvel at the creative brilliance of it. To think that they essentially went from the original Super Mario Bros. to this (since the Lost Levels was basically just an "expansion"). And SMB2, while it may not have been a real Mario game, what charm it has. I want to squee every time an enemy makes its debut. There's just something so likable about the ostriches, hedgehogs, Bob-ombs, fluffy white guys, etc. Oh, and the whales! I love that stage so much. I remember I had a Nintendo calendar as a kid where one of the months was the whales, and it's just burned into my memory for some reason. Anyway, I've completed both quests of the first Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and now I'm up to the last world in Super Mario Bros. 3. Even though I've done it so many times, there's something about this last world that still intimidates me. I'm saving the Lost Levels for last, since I figure it'll take the most time and effort.

I'm all done with Super Mario All-Stars on Super Nintendo. I blew through the Lost Levels surprisingly fast, which only reconfirms my stance that it isn't THAT hard, not like people make it out to be, at least. Sure, it's way more challenging than the other games on the collection (although US SMB3 is dumbed down from the original Japanese difficulty, but having played that version too, I'd say Lost Levels is still harder), and it has a few stages that make me blow through several lives. I do admittedly milk the turtle at the beginning of the game for a hundred lives (but considering you can restart at each individual stage, you have unlimited tries anyway; it's just quicker to have a stock pile of lives than to sit through the Game Over screen and continue). It has a handful of spots that are borderline "Asshole Mario"-ish, like I believe it's in 8-3 where a hidden block is placed so that when you try to jump over a hammer brother, you'll hit the block and fall back into the enemy. But overall the game is fairly smooth sailing for me. Granted, I played through this game a ton as a kid. One thing that was great about this replay is that a mystery from my childhood is finally solved. I had read, long before the internet even, that one of the stages in World 9 tells the player "Congratulations!" or "Thank you!" or some such. But as a kid, I couldn't see what the heck people were talking about. I just saw a jumbled assortment of blocks, no matter how hard my brain tried to contort them into some sort of writing. So now years later, as an adult with a minor amount of Japanese knowledge, I play the stage and clear as day I read "Arigatou!" (aka "Thank you!") in katakana. No one had ever pointed out back then that the text was in Japanese, and my childlike brain just never considered the possibility that it would be in anything but English, haha.
Since that's done, I'm back to just trying out some random stuff. My copy of PD Ultraman Battle Collection 64 for Nintendo 64 arrived, and oof, is this game bad. Quite possibly the worst Japan-exclusive N64 game I have (although more playable for me than some others, since some really require fluent knowledge of Japanese). I love how most of the game is just staring at Ultraman walk or pose or whatever, playing no interactive role at all. I also tested some PlayStation 2 imports: Virtua Fighter 4, Gran Turismo 3: A-spec, and Ridge Racer V. Ridge Racer V seems like a downgrade compared to past games, especially with the lame music, so I had the urge to pop in Ridge Racer Type 4 for a bit. I like to play it with the NeGcon, but I didn't feel like digging it out this time. Still a blast to play, although I've never played it seriously. I really should rectify that someday.

Over the last several days:
Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
I had made it my personal mission to progress as far as I could in the game and possibly beat it (which I finally did last night.) I had proven that "cheaters never win" not long ago by screwing up my game save by trying to get a 100% one off the internet so I could just enjoy driving the different cars and just explore the city and have fun, instead of playing errand boy for the Russians, Jamaicans, Italians, etc. I found out that since the name on the save didn't match the PS3 refused to recognize it. This was AFTER deleting my save (where I was stuck on the mission where you had to save Roman anyway). I decided a fresh start was in order.
The funny thing was...a lot of the missions (including the one you had to save Roman) were much easier this time around. I found myself generally improving my skills on most of the missions (and realized I had totally forgotten R1 allowed you hide behind things while shooting) and was having a better time. I did screw up some missions, though. I am far from perfect in that regard. I also used the health and lower wanted level cheats to make it easier. I died enough times using those cheats. I know for a fact I would be writing this in 10 years if I didn't use a little help.
I realized as I watched the credits roll (and marveled at how LONG they were!) that the game was definitely one of the most engaging games I have played in a long time. Even the newer Mario games have not received more than 30 minutes of play in weeks. The game is very well done (albeit very dark at times on the PS3 despite it not supposed to be at certain times of day....had to adjust the contrast and saturation on more than one occasion) and I am going to continue playing to see what little side things I can complete. (I am at 72% done on the game despite beating the main story....there are a lot of little things that bring you to 100%, but like the Ghostbusters game I consider the game beat when you beat the main story. The side things are just that....side things.)

Eighteen Wheeler: Pro Trucker (DC)
I was going through my collection deciding what I plan on keeping and what I plan on getting rid of when I noticed the last time I played PSO was in 2007! Since the game tells you the game is supposed to only be played on one console I got nervous thinking I was going to have to start over since I replaced my original Dreamcast. Thankfully that wasn't the case! I played for about 15 minutes just to become acclimated again and realized I had no clue what I was doing! I played a quick race of Daytona USA just for fun, and moved on to Eighteen Wheeler. I made it to Stage 3 with Asphalt Cowboy and I thought I was going to make it but I needed one more second because the screen told me my time was up and I skidded to a halt right before the finish!

Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (NES)
City Connection (NES)
Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
I decided I needed to dust off the gem that is Mike Tyson's Punch Out! since it had been a while since I bought it and only had played it once or twice since then. I searched for some Game Genie codes to see if my road to the champ could be made a little easier. I found some interesting codes. One (PTTZZZ) makes the game look like it came out for the original Game Boy! Others were either glitchy in spots (understandable since some codes can created undesired effects. Another one (KOAUTO) basically makes it easier to KO someone (except for the fact it won't let you beat King Hippo). The code EANALL is a phantom punch that knocks the opponent down right after Mario tells you "Fight!" and your fighters get close. You can TKO someone (kind of like the EANALL code) with TZLOSS. You can knock most boxers out with one hit with AAVETLGE. I think the game completely froze at Great Tiger. All in all, interesting codes but I ended up playing the regular mode until Soda Popinski "walked all over me."
I tried a couple codes for City Connection. The code SZNSTPVG gave me infinite lives while SXKPZGVG gave me infinite oil. Even that only helped for so long as I eventually got to a later iteration of Frankfurt that has wider gaps so sometimes you have to pull off a jump then immediately reverse your direction to get to the higher platform. After at least a half hour of frustration of needing only one little spot to hit I shut the game off. (I guess it's better to suck at a game and not get far than to have a genie grant you unlimited lives and STILL not be able to beat the game!)
I had already beat the main story mode in Grand Theft Auto IV, but I still had some side things to accomplish. I brought my friendship/respect level for my remaining friends to 100% and completed the assassin missions. I am also trying out the "Craplist" dating scene! The game is still fun as I like seeing the different cars and just drive about with no destination sometimes without having to do some mission in the meantime. (Don't get me wrong....I thoroughly enjoyed the game and am glad the save file from the internet didn't work. It was much more satisfying when I started over and started beating it mission by mission.)

Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
I received my copy of Super Mario Bros (NES) in the mail yesterday. I decided since I have a television that prevents me from playing light gun games I was going to donate my Zapper and my copy of Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt (NES) to Goodwill (along with a bunch of other games I no longer had interest in). Since I was doing that, I needed to find a standalone copy of the quintessential game that made me fall in love with the NES so many years ago. It was weird not seeing the screen where you select between the two games for the first time. I plowed through the game, vowing to stop when I lost all of my lives. In the majority of the stages I was able to get both the 5000 point bonus AND the 6 fireworks! I died the first time somewhere in world 2 (I was moving a bit too fast and feel into a pit) and finally exhausted my lives in 5-3. I found most of the time when I was dying I was just rushing and not paying attention. When I WAS paying attention, I was able to kill the fake Bowsers with fireballs! (Kill it with fire!)
I "liberated" a police car while playing Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) to stop some random crimes and take down Liberty City's most wanted. I got rid of 20 of them and still had time for a successful date (LawChick) and an unsuccessful date (LiberatedWoman). I guess I should have dressed nicer, huh?

The ominous music and the voices while in the morgue creeped me out for the first time since Resident Evil and D! Sonic Generations (PS3)
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3)
Speaking of my last check-in and my rant about having to unlock/purchase things....Sega strikes again with the above games! I played through the Chemical Plant Zone and the Sky Sanctuary and it kept talking about points I have earned. It turns out to enhance my abilities (or gain a second chance after losing my lives) I have to take the points I earned and purchase the skills! I find it crazy that you have to go through and acquire skills to give you a better chance of beating the game. The concept of the game is interesting, and it seems Sega has managed a decent Sonic game for once. I liked Sonic and Sonic 2, but thought the worlds were getting TOO big by the time Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles came about. Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were beautiful and awesome, but the whole zipping around with ZERO control at places seemed frustrating. I think Sonic Generations isn't perfect, though. Most of the stages feel like rehashes of the old games (especially the music) and make you want to play the old games instead.
Which is what I did...
I popped in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection to try to unlock the rest of the stuff. I still had not unlocked Space Harrier (by getting 1,000,000 points in Super Thunder Blade) and decided to give it a try. I was dying way too quickly until I switched the controls to "Normal." Apparently the up is down and down is up mechanic was not helping me when I had to think fast and avoid enemy fire. I gave up at 917,000 (and my umpteenth loss) and moved on to something else. I decided to play Sonic 1 and see if I could unlock one of the interviews by getting the first chaos emerald. I managed to make it to the bonus stage where you earn the emerald, but ended up bouncing to the exit just short of getting it. I played until I made it to Marble Zone: Act 3 (where I had lost my last life). I then played Sonic & Knuckles. I get irritated by the constant enemies that don't hurt you (unless you touch them) but DO send you into things that hurt you. I made it to Mushroom Zone: Act 2 before I decided to call it a night.
Bottom line...why do game companies force you to have to jump through hoops to access something that should be there in the first place? It would be like if Nintendo required you in Super Mario All Stars to make it to world 3-1 in Super Mario Bros without collecting any coins or killing any enemies and having a score ending in 50. Ridiculous!

-Busting into a padded prison cell in level 1, where a guy in a straitjacket instantly rushed towards me.
-Level 7, with its exploding tree stumps and an abandoned village full of zombies. I can now say that I've killed a group of zombies with an exploding tree stump. Yeah, that was pretty awesome.
(Level 7 also features a castle full of zombies. Level 8 takes place in a space port. How do you get to the space port? By finding your way to a teleport... in the castle of the undead. Only in video games!)

Namco Museum: Volume 3 (PS1)
I was testing out the Spongebob Squarepants controller I bought my girlfriend years ago to make sure I put everything back together properly. The main joystick was a little loose but still worked like it was supposed to. (The looseness was still bugging me, though!) I ran through the first few "worlds" of Sonic CD, got my ass handed to me by Metal Sonic in Sonic Fighters, got third place in one race of Sonic R, got beaten by the first boss in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (for Game Gear), and made it a couple worlds in on Sonic Triple Trouble (also for Game Gear).
My girlfriend mentioned we haven't played Dig Dug in a long time. We fondly remember the day we both stayed home from work (we worked at the same place and just weren't feeling up to going in) and played Dig Dug all day. We played Dig Dug for about 45 minutes last night before she got tired of playing (and getting beat by me!). I switched to Ms. Pac-Man and played a little bit. The strangest thing happened, though. I was heading straight for the blue (cyan) ghost and thought I was a goner. I passed right through! After dying, I switched to Namco Museum Volume 1.
I started with (and completely sucked at) Pole Position. My girlfriend did make an interesting observation. The HDTV (coupled with the PS3) made Pole Position look more vibrant and like the arcade game itself than she ever remembered it. I switched to Pac Man and proceeded to make it further than ever by making it to the melon stage! I know that's nothing compared to some people but I was in shock and said "What IS that?" Bottom line: I need to play more of the classics! I had more fun playing those games than I do playing the more modern games. (I want to find Namco Museum: Volume 2 so I can get it and replace the Namco 50th Anniversary game I have for the Gamecube. The Playstation just did it right with the museum and the other nifty touches better than any other iteration!)

Yep, more money in Nintendo's pockets. Oddly enough, I never played City Connection back in the day, but I eventually got a copy for a buck after I started collecting and wound up getting addicted to it for about a week straight - seriously, I don't think I took it out of my top loader that entire week. It is? Oh goodie! Now I have an excuse to buy the Famicom version of Super Mario Bros. 3!!
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but, yep, the US version of SMB3 is easier. In the Japanese version, no matter what suit you're in, you always go back to normal, small Mario when hit (rather than going back to plain Super Mario if you have a power-up better than that), which places it more in line with the first game and the real SMB2 (since you go back to small Mario even when you've gotten a Fire Flower in those). There are some other slight differences between the Japanese and US versions of SMB3, but that's the big one.
Anyway, I FINALLY finished trying out all of the games I got for or around Christmas. It only took me nearly half the year. :P In the PS2, I popped in Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Karaoke Revolution, and Gradius V. Although I couldn't be bothered to pull out the guitar controller and I don't even have a PS2 microphone, so I quite literally mean "testing" for those. I saw if they powered up, and that was about it. Gradius V I played a little bit and got my ass handed to me.
On Wii, I purchased and tried out Monster World IV for Virtual Console. Oh how I adore this game. It's so wonderful to have an official English localization available now. I won't be playing it right away, but I wanted to show my support to Sega for making this fantastic decision.
On Xbox 360, I played a bit of Deathsmiles and Record of Agarest War Zero. I guess you could say that I beat Deathsmiles on all of the default settings, but I blew through tons of credits on the last stage and the bonus stage. I guess it has unlimited continues in that mode at least. I was doing well up until that point, though, using only one or two continues. Just did the intro tutorial battle in Agarest War Zero. Man, the Flash-style animation used to make the anime-style portraits look alive is mega creepy and ugly.

Namco Museum Volume 3 (PS1)
I went solo yesterday and popped Namco Museum Volume 3 in my PS3 yesterday. I enjoyed Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, and Pole Position II. It happened again where I passed through one of the ghosts (I think it was Inky this time instead of Pinky) and damn near died on another ghost because I was in shock! I switched to Dig Dug after a while and kept continuing until I finally made it to round 33 and decided to switch to something else. I played a couple races in Pole Position II and realized how bad I was at it! I am equally bad at Galaxian. I prefer Galaga to it, but it was fun to play some games I had not played in a while. I even explored the museum, listening to the sounds and watching the movies available.
On a side note....why is it that Namco Museum for the PS1 was the best? The Gameboy Advance version had four games, the Dreamcast had six, the Gamecube (50th Anniversary) had 14 (basically a best of from the PS1 discs), and the Wii version has a bunch of lesser known games. The Gamecube and Wii are at least a little interactive, with the Gamecube showing the machines themselves and playing 80's music to get you in the mood, while the Wii had different rooms to go to. No tips, no trivia, no quirky museum pieces, no Pookas jumping around....just bare bones for the most part!
I once got rid of Namco Museum Volume 1 and 3 (briefly) when Rhino Video Games existed in exchange for the Dreamcast Namco Museum. When I found out all the cool stuff was gone, I traded it back immediately!

I have both of the Namco Museum releases on the GBA, and if you're wondering, the GBA port of 50th Anniversary has five games (I wasn't originally planning on adding it to my collection, but I found it for a buck and couldn't turn it down). I agree on them being very uncommon and pricey. There are some games on the Namco 50th Anniversary that I don't care much for except possibly Mappy. I lucked out and found a near mint Volume 2 (with Mappy) on eBay for about $26 with free shipping. Judging from the rarity guide, that is pretty reasonable. I look at volumes 4 and 5 and think "meh." By then the games were mostly obscure games I had never heard of.

I'm trying to get back into Zombies Ate My Neighbors on Super Nintendo since I need to get this monkey off my back, but it's such a pain. I think I may have to turn to emulation, even though I almost never touch the stuff. I've just lost all patience with having to hit restart, sit through all the logo/copyright screens, and reenter the password each and every time I lose a victim. It's all the worse for the fact that, when I lose a victim, it's usually because of completely unfair, cheap bullshit, rather than any fault of my own. It's so idiotic that there are victims that are literally impossible to save and others that come down to luck, which usually isn't in your favor. The whole game relies on luck way too much. And the stupid password system. It's so incredibly poorly implemented. I'm trying to use the password for level 33 and get to 37, but it's essentially a useless password. Unless you get very lucky with the random item drops and/or play like a master, it's basically impossible to beat the boss on 37 since the stages leading up to it give basically jack for ammo. With a decent assortment of ammo, it's not that hard at all. I've already beaten the boss starting with an earlier password, but I'm trying to beat the boss with all 10 victims. It's hard enough to clear those four stages without getting screwed on a victim somewhere (and you can't even very well rack up points in these stages to get another back), and if I start with an earlier password, I'm all the more likely to lose at least one. Ugh. I know this game is pretty highly regarded, but the more I play it, the more I have a distaste for it. It's all the more frustrating because, without all these irritating little flaws, it would be a pretty fun game.

I've been playing my Japanese copy of the Pokemon Red. I was surprised at how easy it was to get into. Of course, having played the english versions several times does help tremendously.
The only parts that have required trial and error, is figuring out the Pokemon's attacks, and what the Japanese terms are for the different items available. So far I've only managed to figure out the Japanese terms for "antidote" and "Monster Ball" (AKA Pokeball).

Just beat the game. The ending was pretty meh, but I can't say that my hopes were too high there. I'll have to get the game's sequel - Re-Loaded - one of these days.
Here's my copy of the game:

I've been playing Borderlands (360) lately...but I'm about to delve into some classic RPG's I think. Maybe start Persona (PS1) or get back into Saga Frontier 2. I'd also like to revisit some games I didn't really give a chance to, like Chrono Cross.

Frogger (Gen)
Namco Museum Vol. 2 (PS1)
I popped Frogger in the Genesis to see if I wanted to keep it or not. I still have the itch to get rid of a few more games that I am not playing and I was on the fence on that one. After playing a few rounds I decided that I went through too much trouble to get an "arcade perfect" version of the game I loved so much growing up. I also couldn't bear the fact that I also went through the trouble to hunt down the box and instruction manual for the game to let it go. It didn't cost a lot to get them, but the principle is there.
I got Namco Museum Vol. 2 in the mail today and was excited to see what little tidbits and information I was going to be able to learn about the games on the disc. I mostly got it for Mappy (a game both myself and my girlfriend like), but the other games are fascinating enough to at least hold some of my interest. I played Super Pac-Man and Mappy to test out the disc and make sure everything worked fine. I love having access to the dip switches to change settings in the same way someone who owns the arcade machine can do. I can finally get rid of Namco Museum 50th Anniversary (GC) as the games on it that I *don't* have on the first three Namco Museum discs I don't particularly like anyway. I much prefer the extras Namco put in the PlayStation volumes over the subsequent releases.

I finally beat Crysis on my 360 but I need to do a follow up for a few achievements. I also beat Tekken 4 on my import PS2 but sadly I had to do it with some random character since my two favorites have to be unlocked before I can play as them.

Played and beat a couple of days ago. - The Great Circus Mystery for SNES. - A really good game that I had never played, let alone seen, before last week.
Played yeaterday - Demon's Crest for SNES
I beat the game with all crests, but the time was too late for me to tackle the secret final boss, so I'm going to tackle him today.

Donkey Kong Classics (NES)
Kickle Cubicle (NES)
Donkey Kong Classics was on the chopping block. I know both Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr are classics that have stood the test of time, but I was not always as big on them as other games. I obviously liked them enough to purchase them so I gave them one last chance. It turned out I was having a good time playing both games and it turns out I am about evenly skilled on both....which is to say I suck horribly! My top score was about 39,000 for Donkey Kong and about 35,000 on Donkey Kong Jr. The game stays!
Kickle Cubicle is a game that I loved since I first encountered when it came out in 1990. I never owned it and had to settle for renting it as often as possible. I finally was able to snag a copy a few months ago and worked my way through the worlds. I had not touched it in a few weeks, but I was determined to get through the final few stages of the last world and beat the game. I fought hard on some stages (the ones with the hammers especially) and thought I was going to lose my mind on the final boss. I lost again....and again....and again....and AGAIN....until I finally beat him! It was satisfying watching the end credits and story and I was glad that after over two decades since I first played it I mastered it!

Yesterday:
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
I have not really been a big fan of the Legend of Zelda games. I keep them mostly for my girlfriend's sake as she enjoys them far more than I do. I figured I would attempt to at least beat the games, starting with Link's first adventure on the NES. I had left off at level 2 and proceeded to make it through to the level 5 dungeon before stopping. I can say one thing: you better LOVE the theme music to Legend of Zelda as it is all you hear going from one place to another until you get to the dungeons! (I know Super Mario Bros. for the NES is guilty of this, too, but I thought I spent more time in one sitting on the Zelda game than I did on Mario!)

Today:
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
With my NES Game Atlas beside me and the Wii web browser pointed to a walkthrough of the overworld (as some of the map's info is cryptic at best) I trudged forward in the game. I must not have saved correctly when I finished yesterday because I was back to level 3! I had to fight all the way back up to level 5 and was more successful in getting through this time around as I knew what I was looking for. I got my hands on the Master Sword and pushed on through level 7. The instructions in the NES Game Atlas were a bit cryptic, so I went to the walkthrough to figure out what it was talking about! Once I did that I was able to beat the level 7 boss! The scary thing to think of is that there is a second quest to go through after making it through levels 8 and 9!!! I do know that unless I had the actual Nintendo Power that walked you through the dungeons back in the day I would never have beaten it. Thank goodness for the internet!

The Legend of Zelda (NES)
With only one piece of the Triforce left to obtain before Ganon, I decided to pick up where I left off. I found the last two heart containers I needed (besides the one you get in level 8)....and the power went off. I gasped in horror as I wondered if it would kill my save game and all my hard work. Thankfully my fears were unfounded. I got my two heart containers (AGAIN) and immediately saved. I made it through level 8 (saved AGAIN) then pressed on to beat Ganon. So many secret passageways in that dungeon...good thing I've got the Power...Nintendo Power! It was very satisfying to beat Ganon and see the ending. Now I have to beat the second quest to say that I truly beat the game....another day....

The Legend of Zelda (NES)
I started with the rather lofty goal of getting through the entire second quest in one sitting. I realistically made it to level 4 before I decided to save and quit. Some of the dungeons are hard to navigate even with the assistance of Nintendo Power! I got the fourth piece of the Triforce, but neglected to get the raft because I was out of bombs and that was the only way to fight the creatures in the room leading to it! I decided I could always go back another time and get it before I ventured forward to level 5.

The Legend of Zelda (NES)
I picked up where I left off from yesterday. My first order of business was to get the raft that I left behind in level 4. I do not like the maps with the pathways you have to take to get to certain spots. I found myself getting lost at first until I studied the map in the NES Game Atlas to get a better idea of what I was doing. Levels 5 and 6 were not too hard to navigate and I got through them without much trouble. I did not have enough rupees in level 7 and had to sacrifice one of my hearts to continue. The dungeon had a few twists I had to get through but otherwise was okay. Level 8 gave me fits. Even with as many hearts as possible (minus one from level 7) and the magical sword I was going insane. Those red bubbles would touch me and I would not be able to use my sword unless I found a blue bubble to get my sword back. I gave up on the atlas and looked at a more detailed map online to find the magical wand. At least then I wasn't defenseless! I was looking for the magical key but (ironically) I ran out of keys much needed to access the area to get to the magical key. I fought my way to the triforce piece and restarted the dungeon using the online map. I was finally able to find the magical key and got out of there. The only level left to tackle is level 9! I may try to play through some more tonight or I may wait. Depends on the mood...
Update: I was in the mood....I managed to get lost in level 9 but finally managed to persevere....I beat it!

Gonna give you guys a review on it when i am done. This game sadly has alot i am gonna rant about so be ready for the punches.
I'm still digging through the games I got with the Humble Indie Bundle.
Super Meat Boy is quite good, although the "greasy" controls can be very frustrating at times and the crass, nostalgic humor often leaves me cold.
Braid is a pretty interesting game so far. Some of that prose in between the levels, though, is painful to read and I mean that in a "this is just poorly written" kind of way, not in the "my soul cries out" way that was intended.

GTA: Vice City
Mostly drove around, re-exploring the city and listening to all of my favorite radio stations. Here's the most unique vehicle I have parked in a garage: a Taxi that spawned without its roof light. During my first playthrough several years ago, I was fooling around in the downtown area and a group of Taxis stopped at a red light. The others had their roof lights. I instantly stole this taxi and parked it in the nearest garage (and I'm glad to say that doing so didn't mess up my game, and nothing weird has happened while driving it around, either). I've heard that this glitch can actually be somewhat common, but I've played through the game twice and have yet to see another one.

Today:
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
When I had beaten The Legend of Zelda, I mentioned I may start playing the second NES title in my quest to play/beat all the Legend of Zelda games. I grabbed my NES Game Atlas and popped the cartridge in my NES. I had played before and was not too impressed, but decided to give it a second chance. The NES Game Atlas directed me to some patch of woods (labeled as the second location after the palace you start at) where I was hit by a bat and lost my ability to shoot from my sword. I frantically stabbed at him but kept missing and eventually died. I tried to traverse the landscape and even made it to the closest town, but lost interest soon after. I don't dislike the game because it is a departure from the first NES title. I think the reason I dislike it is for the mix of adventure and RPG elements. I was not a big fan of RPGs growing up. I played Final Fantasy (NES) to death but mainly because I had the guide to it and Dragon Warrior came free with my subscription renewal to Nintendo Power. (The only time I got upset about the game was when a friend accidentally deleted the save I had that took me FOREVER to get to wherever I was!)
I popped in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES) and enjoyed beating up on the Foot Clan soldiers (at least until I got to Bebop and lost my last life) and marveled at the fact I loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so much when the first movie came out (and of course the arcade game) that I made the game a must buy. I rented the first one not realizing at the time it had NOTHING to do with the arcade game until Nintendo Power revealed the sequel! I still enjoy the diversion it creates from time to time.

I've been playing the following:
Monster Tale
I've been spending a lot of time grinding to unlock all of Chomp's forms. The only problem I've found is that the DS shoulder buttons are not that ergonomic. My fingers cramp up after a while, particularly if I'm spamming Chomp's moves to build up the combo counter.
Tales of Hearts
I quit doing sidequests and continued with the main story line. However, it's been so long since I played it, that I forgot what exactly I had to do. i quick check of an online walkthrough solved that problem.
It's funny though. I've played through 75% of the game, and only recently did I realize that the map has an icon showing you where you have to go! That would have been handy to know from the start, but none of guides I've read mentioned this fact. (At least I don't think they do.)

Oof, I've really had my hands full lately, so I feel like I haven't touched a game in weeks. I finally got in a tiny bit of gaming, but it barely counts since I was just testing a couple recent purchases. First I tried out Bakushou Jinsei 64: Mezase! Resort Ou for Nintendo 64. Nothing too exciting, just a Monopoly-style board game. Then I tried Final Fantasy Anthology on my original PlayStation. It's kind of frustrating, though, because my PlayStation is acting up or something. It was stuttering on both Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI, in particular during the opening FMVs, and it even crashed on Final Fantasy V when loading the third or so battle in the game. At first I thought it was maybe Final Fantasy V, since it does have some very light markings. It doesn't look like enough to cause a problem, though, and there definitely shouldn't be anything wrong with Final Fantasy VI since the disc looks pretty much flawless. Very strange. This PlayStation was brought brand new by myself back in 1999, I've treated it like gold, and it's always been perfect to me, except with discs that were significantly scratched, but I knew those problems were because of the disc and had nothing to do with the system. I don't know what could've happened since the last time I used it, although it probably has been several months since the last time. It just sits doing nothing in my entertainment center, so it couldn't have gotten damaged. It'll be really sad if it's dying on me all of the sudden.

Sorry to hear.. this reminds me of exactly what happened to my first Playstation the day I got Final Fantasy VII. Stuttering on FMV, freezing during gameplay. Of course, this was FFVII, on an original model PS1, back on a 96° f day in 1997 (though heat might not have been a factor) so yeah... probably a different issue. Either way, I feel your pain.
Luckily, you can find another PS1 for like a dollar..

I actually already have two other PlayStations, and that's not even counting the PS2. :P It's more a matter of sentimental value than anything else. Plus, of the PlayStation systems I own (and have owned, since I've sold off quite a few in the past through the process of buying lots and selling off what I already have), this was always the best performing model (that is, this one could handle scratched up games better than the others). Strange that it would be having these issues before the others. If it does go belly up, I think I'd probably buy one of those replacement laser units, just to keep this one going in some fashion. The other two don't do me a lot of good, anyway, since one is on the other side of the country, and the other is one of those launch models that heat up like crazy and wouldn't trust for serious playing (I keep it around more as a collectible since it's CIB).
Anyway, as for my playing, I'm finally doing some real gaming. :) After putting it off for a long, long time, I finally started Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360. Man, people aren't joking around when they talk about it having a notorious learning curve and a near useless tutorial. I'm about 7 or 8 hours into the game, on Chapter 2, and I still feel pretty iffy on my grasp of the battle system. Battles are either no sweat, or turn bad very, very fast for me. So far I'm having reasonable fun. Nothing is really grabbing me, but nothing is turning me off either. I see shades of Valkyrie Profile 2 here (literally and figuratively, as the nothing-but-greys-and-browns palette makes a return), and I also see some Infinite Undiscovery concepts done in a much better fashion. I'll just have to keep playing to see how I'll really like it when all is said and done.
I also played a little bit of Wetrix on Nintendo 64 when a friend came over earlier.

Yesterday:
Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)
I wanted to play something different....something I had not playing in a while. (I think the discovery of more details on Kirby's 20th Anniversary Dreamland Collection may have helped my decision a bit.) I was nearly finished the game (still had some unlockables, but was most concerned with beating the main game) and was on Space Land. I only had a couple stages left and the boss. I thought for sure that was the end, but then it was revealed...I still had to rescue Dream Land! Dream Land was fun to play with music reminiscent of the older games and a yarn interpretation of the Whispy Woods! I made it to Yin Yarn and beat the game! Surprisingly, Yin Yarn wasn't as hard to beat as some of the earlier bosses. The end of the story was presented, the credits rolled, and I was satisfied to finally beat the game. My girlfriend got me the game for my anniversary in March 2011, making it a year and three months since I got it and a year and eight months since it was released to beat it.
