The last three back-to-back battles (with no opportunity to return to the world map to grind or shop) took a lot out of me, but I finally beat Jeanne d'Arc for PSP. Thank God I could at least save between the battles, unlike some more annoying strategy RPGs I've played. I thought it was pretty clever how a part in the ending seemingly addresses the actions of the real-world Gilles, who, after the war, supposedly became one of the worst and most demented serial killers in history. He's purely a hero in-game (and for the period of history that the game covers, he was considered purely a hero in real-life at the end of the war too), but they seem to offer an explanation as to why he might do terrible things later in life. I guess nobody can say for sure if Level-5 is intentionally alluding to his later actions, but it definitely seems like it. Speaking of Level-5, I believe this is the first game of theirs that I've ever beaten. Not a bad start with them at all.

I am actually currently playing through Actraiser for surprisingly the first time and loving every minute of it!
I don't play much for roms, only real hardware in my collection and I finally just added this one to my collection
yesterday and already have a few hours put in. Not sure how long of a game it is, but a hell of an experience so
far and living up to the hype for sure!

I totally just picked this up a few days ago myself! Bravo! THe Mode7 hasn't aged well but the game is still solid. Love how many religious references they had to alter for the US release. :D
Also!
Currently playing the living crap out of the built-in Mine Storm on my newly acquired Vectrex. Mostly to see if I have a glitched out version built in, and if so which glitch.

Barring my usual answers I actually went back and played some Split Second the other day. That game is still awesome two years later. And tonight I played demos of Need For Speed: Most Wanted and Sonic All Stars Transformed. They were both ok but the demos didn't allow me to experience as much as I would have liked to make a decision rather to pick them up or not. I also played Wreckateer since it was free to download for Kinect today. It was a fun little distraction game, the kind I would expect as a free or cheap ios game.

I'm still playing Jeanne d'Arc on PSP, now plugging away at the post-game content. I beat the easy first Cemetery battle, and I cleared the first set of battles in the Colosseum, which I neglected to do in the main game. The second set, which only unlock after beating the game, is MUCH more difficult. I went through that a couple times, yielding after the 5th battle both times, which I could barely pass, but it's really not an effective way of leveling up. My Jeanne is fine; she's at level 70-something, but with the rest of my party around 55, it just ain't gonna happen. So now I'm doing free combat, but with all the free combat enemies getting a big boost in levels after clearing the game, I have to be careful which I tackle. If I go into a stage where all the enemies are around level 70, I'm screwed. It's fun beating free combat enemies with my low level characters, though. I'm seeing EXP gains of around 50-140 per enemy, so I'm trying to avoid getting the kills with Jeanne and letting my other characters go up a few levels each in just a single battle. At this rate, I'll be ready for the Colosseum in no time.

I can do a bit better in the Colosseum in Jeanne d'Arc on PSP now, but I got creamed in the 8th or 9th battle and decided to go back to grinding some more. No big problem, the battles are fun and go by pretty quick, and most stages have brand new rewards in the post-game. I now have Jeanne on level 86, I believe, and everybody else is roughly around level 70. I can tackle most of the battlefields with ease, but some of the ones with high level dragons are still a pain.
I also played a little 2-player Dungeon Explorer on Sega CD. It was my first time playing the game, and needless to say, I was getting my ass kicked left and right, haha.

I gave Wonder Project J for Super Famicom a very quick replay, starting yesterday and finishing today. Even though I've played through it multiple times before, one thing that was new and interesting is that I played it with the fan translation via emulation. I barely touch emulation to begin with, and this is the very first time I have ever played through a game with a fan translation. It seems like a fairly straightforward, clean, natural translation and the fonts look nice too, so I can't complain at all. It was fun to play it in English for once, although I don't think I learned much of anything I didn't already know about the story. I'm sure I'll go back to playing the cart in the future, but it was a good experience all in all. I really should try the fan translation for the sequel someday too.

Castlevania Symphony of The Night. Man, the upside down castle is so tough, I tried a few months back trying to level up in the lower castle but it took too long, I can level easy in one area of the upside down castle, but ill end up getting killed eventually. You really have to stay as the bat in a lot of areas, but then you run into a boss by accident and I get killed. :/ Awesome game though.
I mean, everyone who has heard of the game knows that its amazing, and I really wish I had this when it originally came out. This is probaboly the hardest game Ive played that Ive gotten far in without cheats. I dont consider RPG's to be hard since you can just level up and go through stuff like a god, but leveling up in this game is pretty slow and I have to watch out dying. I had to keep back tracking from the normal library like 5 times.....and Im really scared of the second library haha. I need to learn more of the spells real bad.

I didn't say I wanted a tougher one. Just that having continues is dumb in any game.
Definitely going back to play III (I thought the first one was widely considered harder?). I just wanted a taste of the 16-bit ones.

Well I havent gotten all the way through both of them, so Im not sure, but III has a ton of stairs which makes you get hit a lot and you kinda need to use the right companion to get through some sticky situations better. The controls are very limited and rigid, the total opposite of Mario, but eventually they finally made games later that had much more graceful controls.....
Yesterday I beat Symphony of the Night, that game is amazing and totally surpassed my expectations. Played as afterward Richter which was its merits but I prefer Alucard and the RPG elements of playing as him. The game really isnt for exploring purposes with Richter so when I got through most of the normal castle I did a speedrun in the inverted one. I guess making an entirely new game for Richtor would be too much for one cd. Now Im playing it again with the AXEARMOR password, it makes grinding funny looking, what I dont get though is how Alucard can run faster than he normally can in the armor but cant jump more than a step. I haven't been playing a whole lot unless you count some QA testing I've been doing on an iPhone game lately.
But I'm still sporadically working on the post-game stuff in Jeanne d'Arc on PSP. I'm pretty ready to move on, but I just have a tiny bit left to 100% my file so I'm going to stick with it till then. Other than that, my brother-in-law got a Wii U, so I got to try out some Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U. It's nothing I'd drop $400 on, but it was fun. Yesterday we did some multiplayer gaming on the N64, and I jumped in on Cruis'n USA for a laugh and then pulled out Bomberman 64 (the 2D Japan-exclusive one) since I hadn't touched it in years. Good times.

It's been a while since I've posted anything but there have been a couple games that have gotten my attention lately:
Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition (PS3)
Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition (PS3)
I have been playing Gran Turismo 5 like mad because I like the idea of the different cars. I am driving cars I have always wanted to own as well as ones I will never even think for a second I can afford! I am trying to keep most of the cars stock and upgrading only the ones I absolutely need to win races. The computer (B-Spec) races are interesting as you're just sitting there telling the driver what to do. Its almost a step above an instant replay!
I played Batman Arkham City a little bit when I first got it. I am not entirely bowled over yet. I love the story and the game is beautiful, but I am not so sure about the location. Arkham Asylum was huge and this makes that look tiny in comparison! I will probably rotate back and forth between the two games and the others in my library.

I FINALLY cleared the third and final set of Colosseum battles in Jeanne d'Arc for PSP, which in turn were the hardest battles in the whole game, so I feel pretty accomplished about that. Even with a party all maxed out at level 99, it still was tricky and required a bit of luck (and bad luck screwed me over on my first attempt of the 10th battle). Now to just get a couple items I'm missing and I'll be finished. When all is said and done, I'll have put just about as much time into the post-game as the main game. Pretty crazy. And here I thought this would be a quick one. One thing is for certain, I definitely got my strategy RPG fix, and that should last a while.
Around Christmas, I also did some more Nintendo 64 multiplayer gaming. Played some two-player Goemon's Great Adventure which was really fun, and we did some four-player Mario Kart 64 too. Even to this day, I don't think there's any four-player competitive game better than Mario Kart 64's battle mode. It just never gets old.

The Walking Dead episode 1 is free on XBL right now. I downloaded it yesterday and couldn't stop playing it until I completed it. The point and click majority of gameplay it mostly implores isn't really my style but I was hooked on the story from the beginning. I suggest that everyone with an XBL account download it while it's still free.
I also played 1 vs. 100 on my DS while waiting for my car to get serviced at the dealer. It's fun and addictive but the XBL version from a few years ago was way better. And I played Happy Wars and Halo 4 as well. Happy Wars is....um, the kind of game I would expect to play on a tablet or smartphone. You know, if I actually played games on a tablet or smartphone. It was still pretty fun at times, if a bit mindless.

Hurray, I finally have a 100% completion file in Jeanne d'Arc, so back to the shelf it goes. Same with the PSP; between Castlevania and this, I've had my fill for a while.
I'm also starting to try out some of the games I got on and before Christmas. I've got quite the pile to go through, but for now I played a little Golden Sun: Dark Dawn for DS. Fun stuff, but I'll have to play the original game before I get to this. Funny enough I've had that game since near its launch and still haven't played through it. Still need to pick up the second game sometime.
