Okay, now I've made some decent progress in Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360. I've completed everything in Chapter 16 short of beating the final boss. I also used the black hexes obtained from the two bosses before the final boss to open up the Neverland bonus dungeon, but I think I'll try beating the game before tackling that so as not to make the final boss way too easy.

Beating Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360 isn't coming as easily as I would've hoped. The final boss is significantly more difficult than most battles in the game (which makes sense, I suppose), so I've been spending a fair amount of time clearing Arena battles (which isn't too useful because I can't skip ahead, so not much gain here) and grinding in the Neverland bonus dungeon. I just wish the Arena wasn't so repetitive with 3 battles per rank to open up the next rank, and I wish I could actually start Neverland in earnest. Final boss battle aside, that'll take grinding itself because the enemies are a HUGE leap in difficulty (and level). All I can do right now is try to get into the easier random battles to get a quick leader assault and gain levels. Entering any of the actual dungeon rooms is a death wish. When I got up to the final boss, I was around level 80-85 for everybody, and now I'm at 110. That's probably still not good enough for Neverland, and I don't know if that'll cut it on the final boss either (he's close to level 200).

I finally got around to nabbing a copy of Red Dead Redemption a few weeks back, and I've absolutely loved it. I've been playing a lot, but didn't finish until the other day, because I was getting side-tracked with all the Stranger missions and journal challenges. Finally finished the story yesterday though. Not going to lie, I teared up. That shit was depressing.
Still haven't got 100% though. I'm at around 94% right now. I've just got to finish up a few more challenges and get two more outfits and that should be it! Then I'll play through Undead Nightmare, since I've got that too.
I've also been playing through the first Ratchet and Clank game, and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly for the PS2. It's not exactly nostalgic, considering they're only ten years old, but I used to rent them from the video store when they first came out, so it's a little bit of a throwback regardless.

Little late to the party, but a friend got me Rage for the 360 a couple weeks back. Finally got around to playing it, and I have to say I'm enjoying it. It's fun, interesting story and I think the graphics look pretty damn good. I'm not normally a first person shooter fan, but games like this can get me into them. Good story, and I enjoy that it's not linear, I have a choice over what missions I do.

The levels are racking up fast in Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360. I'm now at over 160 for each character. I did some terminal linking on the Arena to get x3 experience, and once I got past all of the easy battles, the level ups were pouring in. I'm up to the final battle of the Arena, but it's pretty dang tough so I'll probably put it off for a short while as I work on Neverland some more. I also got strong enough for that, so I cleared the first section and a couple areas of the second. Still quite a good challenge, though. Even with my high levels, I think I may still be at a disadvantage compared to other players, since I swapped my machine guns and hand guns around continuously to balance levels. My characters would be at lower levels if I hadn't, but they'd have more skills with the weapon types they specialized in. It seems like success is really come down to skill activation now, trying tp dizzy enemies through stunning or breaking gauges or, better yet, getting instant full scratch damage with the machine gun.

I finally retired Resonance of Fate for Xbox 360 to the shelf today, after beating the bonus dungeon and the final boss battle of the Arena. There are still other things I could do in terms of getting Achievements and such, but considering one Achievement requires a replay through the whole game, it would be easier to get the remaining Achievements, items, maxing out my levels, etc. during that replay, whenever the heck I feel like doing so.

Now that Resonance of Fate is done, I'm sort of in-between game commitments. I keep a list of a handful of games I'd like to play in the relatively near future, but just about all of them are long and/or fairly text-heavy, which is exactly what I'd like to avoid for a bit. Whenever I complete a really long RPG, I need a palate cleanser, so I'll play some short action games with very little text before I make my next big commitment. Probably just platformers. I used the online list randomizer that I like, and the first platformer listed from the top was Adventures for Tom Sawyer for NES. I didn't expect anything great from it, given my brief experience trying it out around a decade ago, but whatever, I read that it was easy and short at least. I popped it in tonight and I'm already done with it, so time to pick another game, haha. Anyway, it's not particularly bad, but definitely not good either. I'm glad that it was mostly side-scrolling platforming because the overhead, shmup-style raft stage killed my thumb. The controls are so damn sluggish for that part. Not that the controls are that great for any part. The cloud stage was definitely the most annoying and difficult, since the tiny enemies are so hard to hit given the trajectory of my attacks (regardless of if it's the default rock or the slingshot upgrade). My favorite part of the game would have to be the blatant Castlevania rip-off stage, haha. Definitely not fooling anybody, and on that subject, the rolling barrels in the first stage are pretty Donkey Kong-esque, for that matter.

When I put my collection into the randomizer before, the second platformer listed, after Adventures of Tom Sawyer, was Sonic the Hedgehog, and while I've beaten that one before and am not really in the mood for a replay now, it's the only main series Sonic I've ever beaten (I have beaten spin-offs, like Sonic Spinball). I figured now was as good a time as any to give Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Genesis a genuine try. I had a pretty long session with it last night, getting up to Metropolis Zone. I had more continues left, but it was getting really late and I wanted to get to bed. That's the one thing that turns me off to the oldest Sonic games, that they lack saves or passwords or anything. If it's anything like the first Sonic, I imagine it has a stage select code, but that kind of feels like cheating (but it didn't stop me from using it to save time as I was beating the first game). I've also never been big on feeling like I'm just fumbling through the stages and not getting a sense of their design, just because they're so big with so many different ways to go. I prefer have the feeling that I'm seeing everything a game has to offer. But either way, it's still a really fun game. The special stages are kicking my butt more than anything else. The farthest I got was the third stage of those. Like the first Sonic, I'll probably just beat the game without worrying about getting all of the emeralds, saving that task for another day when I feel like putting in the effort to master the game.

Still playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Genesis. I got all the way up to the final boss on the last life of my last continue, only to die because I tried to hit him before he landed, which apparently is impossible and causes you to go through him and then get hit. >_< I was really annoyed that I didn't get at least one good try at beating him. Now that I've had some practice with the last couple stages, though, I should have a better run the next time I go through the game. I'm getting slightly better at the special stages. I managed to clear the third, but I wasn't able to clear the fourth. The last time I played, I did a Sonic-only game, since I heard some people do better at the special stages without Tails (and the ring requirements are lower, I heard). Can't say it helped me a lot. Even with Tails's delay, I still like that he can help me grab more rings than with Sonic alone.

I beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Genesis, as I already posted in the Beaten in 2012 topic. In my winning run, I didn't even bother with the special stages for most of the time since keeping my rings helped me get more lives and continues, and I needed a fair bit of those to learn Robotnik's pattern. There was no way that I was going to get all the emeralds, anyway. May as well be consistent with the first game and not get them here either, haha. Whenever I replay the games, I guess I'll just start from the first game and work on getting good enough at the special stages to get the emeralds.
Since I had my Genesis plugged in, I figured I'd check to see if my copy of Sonic Spinball is the rare version with the different title screen music. No big surprise that it isn't, but I did play for a bit. Man, it's crazy to think that I was once really good at this game a few years back, haha. I stink now, and I was struggling just to clear the first stage. Eventually I made it to the second stage on my last life, and when I lost it, I quit there. Even though it's tough, it's still a really fun game and gets way too much flak.

I haven't really started up anything new just yet, but I did do some testing of my PlayStation since it was acting up the last time with Final Fantasy Anthology. I first played through some Bubble Bobble via Bubble Bobble also featuring Rainbow Islands to see if it would crash or have trouble with the opening FMV. It all went perfect. Then I proceeded to pop in a lot of different games heavy on the FMV to see if I'd get any stuttering. Nothing. Then I played through the tutorial dungeon of Mega Man Legends since that disc is in really rough shape. Just as it's always done, it stuttered on the dialogue a tiny bit, but otherwise works just fine. As best as I can tell, my PlayStation is working just as well as it always has, yet when I popped the discs for FFV and FFVI in again, it's the same difficulties loading at all and super-choppy FMV if it does. I tried out games that are in far worse shape than those yet work perfect or nearly so, so my only conclusion is that there has to be something up with Final Fantasy Anthology and it's probably not a matter of damage. I don't know if my copy is defective or if it's a widespread problem. Maybe the discs didn't get pressed well, or maybe there's some about how the games load or how the data is stored that's done poorly. From what I've looked into, it does seem like many people do have problems with crashing, glitching, etc., although with people playing on PS2 and PS3 systems, it's hard to tell if that's an incompatibility with those. It's a bummer, though, considering I bought it with the intent of playing FFV in the somewhat near future. I hope it'll work well enough to accomplish that. I can always skip the opening FMV, but I'm worried about in-game crashing.

For the first time since when we got the system near launch and I played some Wii Sports, I'm actually putting some serious time into our Wii. I bought it off of the Virtual Console a long time ago, but I finally decided to play through the English version of The Dynastic Hero. I love this game and the Wonder Boy series in general, but I've only ever played Dynastic Hero in Japanese before. So far, I've cleared the first dungeon. The localization is definitely pretty awful, lots of hilariously stupid typos and the like ("Oh on!" instead of "Oh, no!" for instance), which I imagine would add insult to injury given the insane price to get the English version of this game for real, haha. I think I'll stick to owning the Japanese version. :P But still, it's a treat to experience in English nonetheless. It's also interesting to hear the new English vocal song in the intro. I can't say I'm enjoying playing it on the Wii that much. It's got a weird filtered look, and the controllers suck compared to my Avenue Pad 6. Even more frustrating, our Classic Controller isn't working right for some reason. Most of the time, it doesn't recognize when the D-pad is pressed to the left. We've barely used the damn thing, so I don't know what happened. The plastic of the nubs on the analog sticks has also yellowed too. Lame. Oh well, complaining aside, Dynastic Hero is a great game no matter how you slice it.
Spent a lot of time over the weekend playing old Imagic games, mainly Atlantis on the Intellivision, Demon Attack, and No Escape! I realized that I really miss that company.
Also beat 8-Bit Killer, and I've been playing a lot of Hydorah, trying to finish that one off finally.

I played some Smash TV on nes for the first time in a long time the other day and got a new personal high score (it would be second on the small leaderboard at Twin Galaxies). I've also been playing some Wayne Gretzky's 3d Hockey and the 98 version on n64. Going for the Stanley Cup on the hardest difficulty is rough (more so on 98 it seems). I'm quite far in the lead, but I admit I've quit a few games to get a rematch. I always end up thinking, "I know I can beat them."

I played a tiny bit more Super Mario RPG for Super Nintendo just to ensure that the battery is working properly. Man, what a fantastic game, I'm really looking forward to the day when I replay this (again, I've already played through it at least a couple times). I want to wait until I read up to the Nintendo Power coverage, though, and considering I'm on issue 50-something, that'll be awhile. Anyway, I also briefly tried out Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast, Suikoden V on PlayStation 2, and Dragon Quest VI on DS.
But as for what I'm going to seriously invest myself into right away, I finally started up Mega Man Legends 2 on PlayStation. I've been meaning to for a long time, but I kept putting it off because I either wasn't in the mood for a longer game or I had played something too similar in style too recently (like Solatorobo). But I just cleared the first real dungeon (that is, not the tutorial and what have you), and I'm already having a blast with it. It doesn't feel quite as iconic as the first Mega Man Legends, probably for the fact that it isn't the first in the series, but I still expect a very good time.

I played thru the first two chapters of Killzone 2 on PS3 today. The character movement is so sluggish that I had to set my look and turn sensitivity on almost the highest setting just to be able to react quick enough to not easily get killed. The guns aren't very accurate either. But what really sucks is the forced completely unneccesary motion sensing. I play all fps games on PS3 with a third party controller where the analog sticks mimick the 360 controller because thats way more comfortable. But it's a wired controller with no motion sensing so every time I have to do something as tedius as opening a door or a vent I have to turn my dualshock 3 on to do the motion sensing part before continuing with my gameplay.
