Yay, just got the Chef's Hat and over 100 crabs! (That doesn't sound right...)

Any advice for getting the Shooting Star in Star 1 or finishing Star 4?

Any advice for getting the Shooting Star in Star 1 or finishing Star 4?

the only real advise I have for this game is that the levels seem to have a natural line of objects in the begining that if you follow it you can quickly get your ball up to size.

It's still available on Gamestop.com:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=281133

And to anyone in the Portland, OR area looking for a copy, most of the Gamestops here should have at least one copy - just check on the site to make sure it's at the GS near you (I just looked it up and the Lloyd Center, Washington Square, and Tanasbourne stores are the only stores that don't have a copy in stock at the time of this post).

I have to work all weekend (I'm on a break and headed back to work in a bit), so I won't have time to start this until Monday. :( Really looking forward to playing it, though.

Anyone get a close up look at "Demo Island"? In the Moon stage you can get it by plucking it out of the top of the volcano. I'm curious, which part of the game is the demo? I'd love to see it closer. I'll have to try later. I'd like to see what it looks like closer. Curiosity, I guess.

A friend of mine dropped by tonight with a PS2 and we tried this puppy out.

OH. MY. GOD. Must get a PS2. Must get this game. Digital crack.

And that's some of the catchiest damned music I've ever heard in a game - kinda like spacey '60s Vegas lounge music filtered through some techno influences. though I'm surprised at how much of it at least sounds like real instruments.

Must have. I just wish they coulda left the PS2 here for a day or two. LOL

Well, I have the Japanese Demo of Katamari, and Katamari Damacy, but I've been in a mad dash to finish FF Tactics, so I haven't had the time to really play through KD yet. I did play the demo though, I think it might be it's own fairly simplistic, small city level, worth checking out at least once.

At the moment im not saying until I hit my shooting star there (missed it by a second) and push my Katamari bigger than the 18cm1mm that ive gotten it so far. The level is real easy once you figgure out how to hit the inital 10cm though.

A note on getting to the roof in Star 4:

You need to go to the corner of the level where the car / van is blocking the road. Then you need to roll next to the house up the wall - it forms a sort of "step" that you can roll up to get to the roof.

Note that one of your "cousins" is up on the roof - it's the one that looks like you. I've only gotten two of the cousins so far - Dipp and the one that looks exactly like you...I know I got a white one and one other one on one of the Eternal levels, but that doesn't count. Has anyone else collected all of the cousins?

I got my katamari in the Moon level up to 860m by the time I was done (on the NON-ETERNAL level)! Picked up just about every single island and cloud but a few. Lots of rare islands and items; I'm going to try to get a complete collection.

Note also that several of the most rare items in the collection are only available on the constellation levels and are "rare" - for instance those cow pylons and cow vending machines that are so annoying. You pretty much have to go through the level multiple times to pick all those things up. I'm not sure what my stats are for each level, but I know they're good, so once I write 'em down I'm going to post 'em.

Photo Mode

For people still working on getting presents and people asking about Photo Mode. The present on Star 5 is a Camera which opens up photo mode. If you want to find it yourself don't read anymore.

You can get it by taking a right after you roll down the hill (45cm and bigger) then go left up a green fence that's on a slant get some speed and knock it out of the crows claws (or get real big and go to the field where the crow is).
you can now take pictures in the look mode.

What's everyone's favorite level?

Whether it is a create a star or a constellation what level in the game did you most enjoy and why? Was it because of the music or level design maybe the goal? For me there are two levels I really enjoy playing. Make the north star and make a star 8. Some might find the guessing part of North Star frustrating but for me it just means more replay value I love trying to see how close I can get. The thing I loved the most about star 8 I guess was you were able to grow allot but still have restrictions. The moon level was fun the first couple of times but now going across the empty ocean has lost its fun. I'm real curious to see what levels people like because even though it is a simple game some of the levels throw a few curve balls.

this really only happens when you're just starting (at least for me) once you get the hang of the controlls it really shouldn't be that bad. the camera is a little buggy though when it gets stuck behind objects.

I believe you have to finished the game before they will open up.

From what I remember, when you get your katamari large enough to get eternal, two little guys similar to the Prince, but all white (think angel), start circling your katamari.

You have to get your katamari large enough to pass the level to get the present. It doesn't matter if you've successfully completed the level before or not. You have to go through the success screen with the King to actually get the present.

Eternal 2 is a big gyp. In order to actually OPEN it, you have to roll EVERYTHING up. And once you rolled EVERYTHING up, what fun is it to do again? I am working for the MOON though. It's the only one I haven't gotten. The Moon should be fun as it's great to explore.

And I got so close on the stupid North Star. I can't get the right point. He has said "Soo close!" though many times.

Also, does Stardust have any significance? Or is it just a consolation prize with no worth at all?

BTW, any word on what's in the Volcano? What is Demo Island? And where on the world is the levels (Like Eternal 2) located? It seems there are three main areas in the game all separated from eachother, but are they all in the same world? Can I access the smaller levels from the main Moon world? Or are they completely closed off from the real (Big/Moon) world?

well my GameStop now has a bunch. They even put them up behind the counter on display next to all the other popular games. I think we are pretty much guarantee the sequal now.

Thats funny. I went there last night and they didnt have any, so I went to EBGames and convinced the guy to sell me the copy that someone had on hold.

Chris

I moved to Sacramento (Downtown Mall has them) recently so I wasn't speaking about the Davis ones

Oh. Well then I am KING OF DAVIS ONCE AGAIN!!!!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

BUT... I seriously wowed myself by getting EXACTLY ten meters on the North Star stage! Hey, don't ask me how it happened. Educated guess? Dumb luck? Lots and lots of logical and mathematical deductions? You be da judge. :eek 2: I officially hate you now. :(

If you noticed back on page, ummm...2-3, I dunno. I did this as well. Amazed the living shit outta me that I did it FIRST TRY.

I think there's a little number in the top-left corner of the screen while you're gathering them up.

Heh. After raving about this game for a few days, I finally got my wife to try it. she mainly obsessively plays puzzle type games.... but after a few minutes she was like "ooh - I got a soy sauce packet! .... Come back you #%$#$ mouse!"

Seriously, that's excellent! I can't tell if it can be done either through extreme chance or educated logic, but whatever the case, it's quite a feat. High five, man. *smack* :)

Heh, and now, I gotta ask, what's everyone favorite piece(s) of music from KD? For me, in no particular order...

1. Gin and Tonic and Red Red Roses
2. Lonely Rolling Star
3. Roll Me In

Hmm.. Okay, so all I have to do for each eternal is just meet the size requirement on that level, and then WHEN I finish the game, the eternals open up?

I don't know the answer to that one. We had already played the game all the way through before we got one large enough to qualify for an eternal.

You can let us know what happens! :)

ACK! *lol*
So no one's sure if you have to finish the game first, THEN qualify for the eternals, or if you can qualify first, then finish the game, THEN get the eternals..

you can qualify before you beat it and it'll count

My favorites, in randomly chosen order:

Que Sera Sera
The odd one of the bunch. A French titled song in English in an overly Japanese game. But a very cool song.

Roll Me In
I love this one. I don't know why.

Cherry Tree Times
My absolute favorite. The Japanese children singing, the feel of the music, it's very very good.

The Moon & The Prince
Has a certain feel to it. The words. The tune. The I don't know what.

Overature
I love piano versions of game music and any music for that matter. This one is a really cool rendition of the theme song played at the spinning Earth title. Thumbs up.

Wanda Wanda
Has a weird News Report feel to it. Used for the Tutorial level.

Katamari of Love (Or "Clump of Love" I guess you could call it.)
Best credit theme ever.

Has anyone translated the music yet? Also, anyone know what the significance is for using such a weird mixture of music in the game? I'm very curious about that one English tune. Seems out of place, but very well done.
