As far as I can tell, the goal of this game is to roll the ball around and pick up all the crap on the ground.
I've had too many of these run-around-and-pick-up-shit quests before. (Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie:Coins and notes)

Kamino.. the difference is, in K.D. you can pick up EVERYTHING, not just the stuff on the ground ;) If you can't pick it up, then you're just not big enough yet.

That table, that lady, that car outside, that house you're in, that island you're on. It aint no "coins and notes" deal :)

yea, you just didnt get far enough into the game to give it a fair review

you said you played for about 15 minutes......your criticism might have been better accept if you spent, say 2 hours on the game....not a very minimal amount of time

Well, I finally had a chance to play this.."game"..yesterday. Being that I was at a game shop where I try a lot of games, I kept an open mind.
Three words summed it up:
WHAT

FUCK?!?!?!?!

Just in case it "got better", I FORCED myself to play this game for 15 minutes.
I really wish I'd done ANYTHING else in those 15 minutes.
THIS.GAME.SUCKS!!!!!
Are you playing the game drunk/stoned/high or something? Is there something I am missing, or is the whole concept of rolling a ball around and picking shit up all there is to it?
And, are you saying this game is good, simply because it is so weird and fucked up, that there is nothing like it on the market today?!?! Or, because you think it will become rare?
WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS TWENTY DOLLAR GAME?!!?!??!

argh. I'm going to go play gradius to try to relieve the anger this game has caused me.
And no, I did not buy it.

that's how I felt when I played Vice City

if you're trying to explain it by saying it's one of those intangible things, i am getting the drift...
If you're just taking a cheap shot at me........
But yeah, i'm thinking this is one i "just will not get".
Maybe it is a throwback, maybe it is the simplicity, But when I look for a throwback, I want it in 2D. If it's in 3D, and still that utterly simple, it's going to anger me.
ah well. I hereby bow out of this thread. just wanted to get my 2 cents in. Feel free to leave change. ;)

There's something about this game that reminds me of "No One Can Stop Mr. Domino". Probably the quitky Japanese humour and graphics.

God I love this game. I took the advice of Shinji008 from this board and went out and picked it up... I don't think I've ever played a game with my fiance for such a long time. She likes video games, but she'll only play for an hour every once in a while.

We spent the last weekend getting through all the stars and cosmos. What's funny is the week before we had the "Engagment Encounter" weekend crap we had to go through to get married in a church...and well KD made us grow closer than that crap did. ;)

Such an addicting, whacky, fun game.

Trolls get well fed around here huh? hehe

*throws some food under the bridge*

There's a huge difference between not liking a game and thinking it sucks. I can't stand FFVII, Halo, or GTA to name a few, but I'm not silly enough to think they suck. You shouldn't call anything that obviously biased by emotion and personal preferences a "review"

Actually, I like simply because it is 3D and utterly simple. Just because a game is in 3D shouldn't mean I need to learn what all 50 buttons do and go through 4 hours of training just to learn how to control my character!

I got it to 18cm 18mm on Star 1. I just remember at the end I got those fruits on top of the cushions at the corner of the room :P

I'm sure it can get even bigger though

Oh wow I had no idea there was fruit there. I managed to get up to 18cm 2mm by picking up the oranges out of the bowl on the platform where you start out. Definitely could get bigger than 18cm if you could pick up the desk lamp.

Oh and to whoever compared this to Blast Corps, you hit the nail on the head.

Blast Corps rules
FFVII rules
FFX-2 rules
GTA: VC rules
GTA: SA is going to rule
Civilization III rules
Mario 64 rules
Katamari Damacy rules
Zelda Wind Waker rules

You dont have to hate one of these games because you like on of the others on the list.

One thing I haven't seen too much discussion on is the multiplayer.

Who's tried it? What do you think?

Personally I thought it was a bit dull... seemed to always go through the same routine.

Yea, I tried it as well and it was rather boring. The crucial issues are that you're just limited to the arena and then there's the time limit. I assume you can get a little bigger in later rounds, but we only played to round 4 or 5. I hope the sequel adds significantly more to this mode :)

Hmm... maybe I should get back to playing this and see if I can unlock the other two eternals... I unlocked 1, and I always wind up about 30 seconds off from unlocking Eternal 2. Eternal 3 is going to take a lot of work but I'll get there. I should try to roll up all the cousins I haven't found yet too.

Even though I (relutanctly) picked up Katamari Damacy (like it or not, the game's description wasn't that appealing for me, but enough people have said that it was a game worth picking up, especially when considering its price, that I figured that it was worth encouraging Namco). Anyway, so far I love it! It's a simple but fun game. You always want to try improving the size of the katamari for a given stage. I just love how varied is the stuff to pick up too: small animals (who squeak as you squish them into the katamari), legos, shoes, pencils, thumbtacks, cherries, chicken drumstick, etc...

What I like is that you can play only one round if you don't have time for more, just like the good ole pre-crash games.

that is this game's strongest point IMO. that and it also to me has a post-crash but pre-discbased feel to it; the old "Easy to learn hard to master" lines.

I played a lot more of the game over the weekend. I'm currently stuck at the Make a Star 7 level, but I'm sure I'll eventually get it (my biggest katamari in that level was 5 meters... I always seem to run out of time before I can make it to the goal in that level.

I have to say that the replayability level is pretty high. Even after you have everything, just rolling around is so much fun! :D

And the whole rolling over of people (and other large things)? It makes me think of the way my best friend plays The Sims: she likes to find different ways to kill them (such as removing all doors and windows from the room they're in, etc.). :)

The gifts are pretty hard to get. I got only 2 so far (the green scarf and the crown; I did pick up at one point the gift from level 7, but since I didn't complete the goal, I have to do it again).

I'm definitely going to buy the soundtrack!

Aw, man, we're still talking about KD? Well... there's no problem with that. Hell, I'm still playing it. Just a few days ago, I finally managed to snag the Holy Cow in the Taurus level. That and the Ursa Major stages are probably the most frustrating challenges in the game, and it nearly made me start disliking the King of All Cosmos who stopped all activity, thinking that a f**king inanimate sign was a BEEEEEEEAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!! Argh. Thank god I also snagged the Kintaro-Bear. Advice: The biggest bear possible in the Ursa Major stage is the one with a rocket up its bunghole, AFAIK.

Are you on drugs or something? THIS.GAME.SUCKS!!!!! I played it for thirty seconds and it seems like all you do is hit a button while a guy with a big scrotum talks to you. I FORCED myself through three lines of his dialogue, and I'll never have that portion of my life back.

It's funny you should quote that, RedEye... it was that very statement months ago (summary: Katamari Damacy sucks, Fight Club is good) that set my my invisible "likes what I like" button to OFF. After the comment was completely reversed it turned the invisible ignore button to ON.

Everyone's got their own tastes and things that they find good or bad about a game, and that's cool. But trashing a game and another gamer for liking it and then recanting... that's just bogus.

haha, that's like when a cousin of mine said Moulin Rouge was "retarded" and Pearl Harbor was "amazing," and I realized I had absolutely nothing in common with her. I just picked Fight Club as a random example, though. I really haven't played the game since E3, so I don't have a valid opinion of it.

I'm not "thrashing" kamino, he's cool. I'm just giving him guff.

I thought this thread was about will it be rare. The answer is no. My local Best Buy sold out and now has it instock again. So, if there is enough demand to restock it, it shouldn't be rare in the future.

Most stores would onliny carry a small amount of lesser known games anyway, compared to the Maddens and Final Fantasys.
