So, the fact I own three of those means I'm doing pretty good, eh? :D

I've never even opened High Seize and Warhammer.

As an N-Gage owner and former collector/enthusiast (it was my first cell phone! :P), reading through this thread a bit was interesting; particularly because at one time I, too, was trying my best to collect all the games as they were being released, along with the prototype/demo MMCs that were distributed to stores. What disheartened me in the end was the fact that so many games were being cancelled here in the USA. That, bundled with the fact that the N-Gage didn't have a camera and had to be held up to my ear like a taco made me eventually "replace" it with the 3650, followed by the 3230, followed by the N95...

Even so, I've still got a fond spot for it in my memories. When we went to France toward the end of 2007 to unveil the third production run of Beggar Prince (http://www.beggarprince.com/), my trusty ol' N-Gage made the trip with me so as to showcase our then in-progress game Super Fighter Block Battle (http://www.sfblockbattle.com/). (You can see photos from the event here (http://www.superfighterteam.com/events/rgc2007.htm); the N-Gage can be seen in the third photo down, setting next to my Atari Lynx.)

Whomever among you are still collecting for the N-Gage, you're preserving history that's widely overlooked. That's cool, so keep doing it. :)

Recently some vietnamese people showed up at the german handheld board portablegaming.de and posted some interesting things. There seams to be an active n-gage scene in Vietnam with their own board here:
http://www.gsm.vn/forum/main/forumdisplay.php?f=402

They buy the N-Gage cheap on Ebay and then mod it. Some of their creations are in this thread:
http://www.gsm.vn/forum/main/showthread.php?t=91134

There was even a meetup in Hanoi:
http://handheldblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/img-5696.jpg

So - the N-Gage isn't dead yet :)

That demo unit rodarkone has looks interesting. With a proper Sim card it might work as a regular NGage, don't you think?
Owning one of those too, I can tell you that they don't. They have different hardware as well. And trying to flash them with a retail unit's firmware will brick them.

Hey ColdB33r, you ever have a chance to scan those bro?

I think it would be cool to have cases for alien front and virtua cop. A little bit of google searching and I have found the front of the cover, but not the spine or back, and I suck with phoitoshop too much to make it look nice.

Sorry, I screwed up. I don't have it. In my head I screwed up - it was the Dreamcast version I was thinking of. I probably downloaded the Alient Front onto an MMC at some point in the past.

Maybe there's some Photoshop whizzkid around here who would like to?

Anyone here ever signed on to play HinterWars? It looks like it's still going.

I can't believe i've neglected this thread for so long since my last posting! I used to post on the old N-Gage Arena boards though until they closed down to make way for the new Arena boards which require you to be a 2nd generation N-Gager and have an Arena password etc.

I can't believe the things we used to talk about in this thread when it started! Wow, nearly four years later and we're still here talking about collecting for the N-Gage! Amazing!

I'm currently missing just six titles:
Asphalt: Urban GT II
Civilization
Mile High Pinball
NCAA Football 2004 (Unreleased in the UK?)
Rifts: Promise Of Power
Warhammer 40,000: Glory In Death

I would ultimately like to have the entire UK set sealed, which would mean I would need to replace six more:
Ashen
Fifa 2004
Pandemonium
Puyo Pop
Tomb Raider
Virtua Tennis

I have also rediscovered my Flo Boarding cart, plus my Gold Master Review Kit of System Rush, so that's a bonus!

Here are a few pics of my collection (Circa September 2007):

Just the sealed copies...

The entire collection (Minus Flo Boarding)

EDIT: I recently sold four of the unsealed duplicates (For a pittance), but still have sealed duplicates of Glimmerati and Elder Scrolls Shadowkey if anyone is interested in a trade?

Nice collection.

I don't keep the games sealed - I just want to play the games (almost all my games came in sealed form - I unseal the games imediatly)

Where did u get the Atari I and II ?

mine were 99% sealed, and I opened them all (no point in sealed games).

I generally agree, but not in the case of N-Gage. The games are so cheap that it doesn't make much difference whether you buy them used or sealed, so why not buy them sealed, especially if you're a collector? And for playing, I have a Not-for-Sale MMC for almost every game. :)

tom
03-13-2009, 02:11 PM
that is true actually, it's just in the past USA (and Europe) collectors threw everything away, boxes, instructions, etc for VCS, NES, SNES.
and now they are like....oh no i want this SNES game sealed, and I'm gonna pay $1000 for it....WHAT???? Cracks me up everytime

Also, the whole N-Gage is available on torrent, burn it on CD, and bingo, keep your N-Gage collection sealed

Gemini-Phoenix

Where did u get the Atari I and II ?

It's been so long I can't remember, but the majority of my games have come from eBay sellers, back when they were a little more common. Of course, specific games like these weren't as common, but as nobody was colleccting them at the time, it didn't matter as they were as cheap as any other! Lol.

A shame that i'm still chasing those last few elusive titles, one which I believe wasn't released in the UK (NCAA Football) and the others are pretty much the last handful of games released which could only be ordered online.

Allack.co.uk allegedly have both of these games, but there's no way of telling whether or not they are actually in stock...

Also, the whole N-Gage is available on torrent, burn it on CD, and bingo, keep your N-Gage collection sealed

Exactly, and it's the same for DS games too!

I previously held an order at Allack for five of these games I needed for six months, but the games I ordered never showed up back in stock, so I asked for a refund in the end. I see they have Mile High Pinball, Civilization, Asphalt Urban GT II, Warhammer 40,000, and Rifts advertised with 'Availability: Usually dispatched within 2 to 3 days', but there's no way to tell how accurate this information is, and whether they actually do have it in stock - Bearing in mind that this is a website that still has Virtua Cop, Alien Front, and Taito Memories listed as 'Not yet released' on their system available for pre-order! Lol

I don't mind paying their prices for these last few games provided they have what I want - Has anyone actually ordered any of these titles recently? Can anyone confirm that they do actually have stock of these items? I've just eMailed them to ask, so i'll post the reply if and when I receive one

Gemini-Phoenix

Received an eMail from Allack, which basically stated that the only N-Gage games they had left were the early ones like Sonic etc...

It would be nice if they could update their website to reflect this information

God, I want High Seize so bad I can taste it. Can't wait to get a nice copy in...scan the artwork at a super high resolution and finally play the damn game + snap a lot of screenshots.

What's a good SD MMC to pick up for the N-Gage? I've been wanting to play around with loading stuff onto just a normal SD MMC so that I can have more room for snapping screenshots (instead of just a very small handful per session), but the ones I own (and the micro SD -> normal SD adapters) are all too large to fit in my QD :(

There seems to be a serious lack of n-gage screenshots out there and it might be fun filling up the galleries at places like GiantBomb and such with fresh/original shots to these overlooked games.

On that topic, is it possible to record video at all on stock units or is special hardware required?

Gemini-Phoenix
03-18-2009, 08:26 AM
Just out of curiosity, are there any emulator's out there for the PC which emulate the N-Gage? Would such a thing be difficult to create? Has anyone ever tried (Ie, are there any which are work in progress)?

It would be nice if someone were to ccome up with such an emulator so that it were easy to record video's and take screenshots of the games in action

I always found Puyo Pop to be quite slow more like all those other crappy Java games. Completely not what I expected from an N-Gage title. Sonic N on the other hand is great, and a wise choice! One of the best games on the system, and should be on every owner's list

It was a bargain at £9.99 as well! LOL

I was not the buyer, but did notice the auction as the same seller also has quite a few other nice late releases on offer:
Xmen Legends
Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm
Pathway To Glory: Ikusa Missions
Glimmerati

They're all sealed as well and only £9.99 each, which I personally think is a bargain considering the rarity of some of them. He also has a few other earlier releases too

Just got really, really lucky on eBay. Wish I could score more N-Gage hardware, but right about now I'd be happy just to find an MMC that I can use in my QD :(

Uploading the Press Kit mini DVD for Ikusa Islands right now, but I've managed to sneak up two videos onto YouTube that I hadn't seen before. The Producer Presentation is especially awesome because it shows some behind the scenes footage that you'd normally never see.

Does anyone else have any another press kit mini DVDs (especially Glory in Death) that they wouldn't mind making images of for the greater good? YouTube (hell, the internet) is sadly lacking in decent N-Gage videos and these discs seem to have some serious gold on them.

damn, i figured everyone had forgotten the n gage and was kind of regretting buying all the games...

ive got an original presskit for the system and a big box store display. the presskit has a lapel pin, waterdrop clock thing, press releases, n gage notepad, nokia academy e-learning disc, n gage strap, and originally came with a taco style unit... kind of cool. the lapel pin by itself is pretty awesome.

i think i posted pics of my weird bomberman... its got marker on the insert, but its sealed. i know some got autographed, this looks like it may have been below an autographed insert and just got some loops from someones signature. never got a real signed game though.

(edit) wasnt bomberman that got autographed...not sure what the deal with that copy is. i also am pretty sure i have extra copies of atari 1 and 2 sealed, but i cant find them. i have a tendency to 'lose' things in random boxes so i discover them years later when they finally have value. i remember not being able to sell them for what i paid for them, and i dont think i would have dumped them... not sure though, i dont really remember.

btw, have i ever shown this? its missing the right side system mount, but its pretty cool...

Esquire has 11 (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1506925&postcount=712):
Asphalt 2
Catan
Civilization
High Seize
Mile High Pinball
One
Pathway to Glory: Ikusa Islands
Rifts
System Rush
Warhammer 40K: Glory in Death
X-Men Legends II

If anyone has any and wants to rip the disc images, I'd be totally willing to host them up until my provider yells at me for using too much bandwidth (which is unlikely). Lord knows this stuff should be preserved, especially since those press kits tend to have a ton of screenshots, videos and high quality artwork that just simply isn't available elsewhere.

I'm particularly interested in the Warhammer, Civilization and Catan press kit discs. Just in case, I guess I'll be watching eBay for the next few months hoping to get lucky.

It was "Rifts: Promise of Power" that got autographedin limited numbers by Kevin Siembieda, the RPG's creator. I remember ordering 3 copies from 'Let's Talk' before they ran out of stock and every copy I got was autographed. Looks like the ones with the mini-DVDs only came out for late release games. I haven't stumbled on any references to any that esquire doesn't have, so I think that lucky jerk may have 'em all. :)

Still looking for more! The ones for the earlier games (like Pathway to Glory or Fifa) don't seem to come with the fun-to-explore discs :(

It was a mistake - there are only 11 games (I counted Pocket Kingdom from last post ... )

The missing games are:

Asphalt: Urban GT 2 (ordered - found on amazon just the MMC)
Atari Masterpieces Vol. I
Atari Masterpieces Vol. II
Call of Duty (ordered from USA)
Civilization
High Seize
King of Fighters EXTREME (ordered from USA)
Operation Shadow (ordered from USA)
Rifts: Promise Of Power
Sega Rally Championship (I can order this from ebay.de .. but it's kinda pricy I wait a copy of the game from Australia, I missed one on 6-7 euros)
Warhammer 40,000

Big boxes

So I got Asphalt promo big box, with racing gloves:

'pocket' in France has Pathway to Glory big box with a lamp:

(pic by pocket with permission)

and Splinter Cell big box(also with some extra):

are there any more 'big' boxes?

Now that the old N-Gage Arena site and forum are gone, and replaced by the new Arena forum, are there any other major fan-made 'Homage' sites out there which specialise in the collecting of the N-Gage?

If not, then perhaps we should form a specialist community and create one, and use it as a preservation site for all things N-Gage... Rather than just limited to one discussion thread on a popular gaming site, we could host screenshots and databases, as well as high quality scans of all releases and pictures of our collections etc... Anybody already thought about doing this?

All big boxes are promo versions, not retail ones. High Seize had such a promo release as well, which was in a big box made of wood and included a bag, a compass, and some other stuff.

I was kicking the idea around, but I think it'd be more fun if we invaded GiantBomb (http://www.giantbomb.com/) and fix up their N-Gage (http://www.giantbomb.com/n-gage/60-34/) database. It needs a ton of work; new pages need to be created, others need to be split off (many games are grouped with dissimilar titles with the same name, such as Chaos Theory, Xanadu Next, Colin McRae, etc), tons of screenshots need to be uploaded still, gallery management is a bit wonky, we can't upload videos (but we CAN use YouTube to hold the nice stuff off of those media kits), and the forum system is set up similar to GameFAQs where every game and system has its own mini-forum.

Upside: Anyone can edit, it's easy to make changes and we can upload high quality images and scans. Supports fancy game guides (with permissions set for only only the people you choose to edit) and linking to other games based on similar features (such as games in the same franchise, games that play similarly, other games that take place in the same time period or place, etc)
Downside: No versioning system (I know, a wiki without a versioning system? Wtf?) and you need to accumulate 1,000 points from submissions prior to being able to make "live edits". Gallery management is incredibly non-intuitive.

It needs a ton of work;

After reading the bullshit it tells about Piracy, I think it requires a ground-up rewrite, not just "a ton of work". ;)

Oh you can easily nuke that page from orbit and rewrite it. It needs it. :P

The real money though is in the individual game pages. Given how a vast majority of the gamers out there have never seen an N-Gage first hand, let alone played one, their information per game is woefully lacking. I'm going to fill out the Call of Duty page this weekend, though I'm finding it extremely difficult to be objective and balanced while filling out the actual entry. I need to remember to try to focus on leaving criticisms in a separate section along with cutting down on the amount of weasel words.

But look at high profile stuff like High Seize (http://www.giantbomb.com/high-seize/61-16030/), Pathway to Glory (http://www.giantbomb.com/pathway-to-glory/61-14005/), Rifts (http://www.giantbomb.com/rifts-promise-of-power/61-22995/) and Glimmerati (http://www.giantbomb.com/glimmerati/61-13654/). Major games for the system but the pages and galleries are nearly empty. We could easily flesh that stuff out with our knowledge and resources.

High Seize wooden box? Oh that's sounds nice, me want :-)

I don't know if I've asked this question before, but with 30+ pages I'm not back tracking to double check.

But what RPGs are available for the N-Gage?

I have:
Elder Scrolls, The: Shadowkey
Pocket Kingdom: Own the World
Requiem of Hell
Rifts: Promise of Power
Xanadu Next
X-Men Legends II

And am missing Roots.

What else is there?

That site is complete gash! We need something more streamlined, similar to the original N-Gage website, but more in-depth, and more importantly - Independant. I'm sure it can't be too hard to design a suitable website from the ground. I know some people & can make some calls (That is, if there's enough interest in the project to warrant the effort)

I also throw onto the table 'N-Gaged' as a potential website name, just to get us started

I've just browsed Google to try and find some other indie N-Gage websites, but there really is very little out there relating to it, and there's not really any real leading authorities on the subject matter. The new N-Gage site is also no good, as Nokia just want to forget the original hardware and focus on the new Arena service for N-series devices, so there's plenty of potential there for such a specialist fan site

@ WindowsKiller: What "Media Preview" game do you have?
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Comes with a pressed mini-cd and a very early beta of the game.

Though I'm most proud of the protos I have of SonicN and Pandemonium. Both from a time when the N-Gage hardware wasn't even final. :D

I'm interested in the Gold Masters of PtG Ikusa Islands, Rifts, Mile High Pinball, and X-Men Legends II. The ones I have are either incomplete or in rather bad condition. If they are still available, let me know.
