#1 - Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Gamecube)

Man, what a flawed game. I love the graphical style and animation, I love the music, and the game starts off pretty strong, but the senseless padding of the game towards the end totally kills the flow. I'd already sailed the entire ocean and mapped every square, but then I had to go back and find all of the triforce maps which I then had to get decyphered and then I had to find the triforce pieces...ugh. I had been warned about it, but I figured it wouldn't be so bad since I'd already charted everything...I was wrong.

Also, right before you do that, there's a two temples in a row where you have to play through with an NPC, picking them up, switching to them, etc for the whole damn dungeon. Normally it'd be a bit annoying always having to babysit them, but in Wind Waker it was especially bad because everytime you wanted to control them, you had to conduct a little song. That shit got real old, real fast.

Finally, the Z-targeting (or L-targeting, I guess) is a bit better than it was in Ocarina, but against that sand worm boss guy it was ineffective as hell because at times it would target him without a problem and at other times it'd take a few minutes to FINALLY get it to target him instead of his spawn. Good lord was that tedious.

So I guess the game is kind of the opposite of Ocarina. Instead of starting off bad and getting really good, it starts of really good and fizzles.

Halo 2

Technically it was a resolution for me to beat it in 06...but I procrastinated.

so on the last day of 06 I decided to marathon it.

With the xbox that had my save at the office I had to start from the beginning. So I'm at the fight with Tartarus and my brother walks in and says "Happy New Year".

I'm like...What!?!

so when Tartarus finally bites it...my clock says 12:05am.

That's how it became the first game I beat in 06.

in hindsight...I shouldn't have took that nap (which ended up being 4 hours), and ate my food at a table like a normal human being.

I have a strong aim at beating games I own and nearly stop at buying video games. With that said I'm hoping to be posting quite often in here, and often with all the stuff I've got.

Some games I beat in '06:
Baku Baku (Saturn) - Easy and Normal
Castlevania: DoS (NDS) - Completed game, have do beat modes now
D (Saturn) - Did ending #2
Neo Contra (PS2) - Didn't unlock everything yet :-/
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (Saturn) - Unlocked everything :)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare (NDS) - Easy & Normal

And I believe that's it... See, I have a lot to beat this year around.

After having it for two-and-a-half years now, I finally beat Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox.

And after finally beating it, I can now safely say that Ninja Gaiden was my absolute favorite game from this past generation.

Now, all I can do is sit, and pray for a sequel. Not another remake...

Vice: Project Doom for the NES.

At first I was put off by how much of a rip-off it is of Ninja Gaiden, but despite being inferior in many ways, it has some things to recommend it. Still, I'm undecided as to whether I think it's good or just above average.

I just beat Ningyo no Rakuin (Mark of the Mermaid) for Playstation. It's a tactical RPG based on HP Lovecraft. I was stuck on the second to last scenario for a long time, but today I finally figured out how to pass it and I crushed the final boss. So, that's #1 for 07!

#2 Shadow Hearts Covenant

Short for my tastes but great game anyways.

How long did it take you to beat/ how does it compare, length-wise, to the first game? I recall the first game took me about 25 hours to beat, and while it wasn't that long compared to a lot of other RPGs, I thought the pace and length was just around right. I'm really glad they didn't pad it out with a ton of senseless fluff.

Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance (Xbox).

An interesting idea (kind of a mash-up between GTA, Final Fight and Reisdent Evil) but it isn't all pulled together. I only paid $5 for it new, so I'm not complaining too much.

12 days in and I've got three down.
- Neo Contra (PS2): 100% everything unlocked. It's definately one of the easier Contra titles out there, but S-Ranking all the stages in succession isn't what I'd call a cakewalk.

- Yoshis Island DS (DS): Beat the main game. I dobut I'll try to 100% the whole thing, as I'm starting to grow bored of the collect-a-thon Stage completion just to unlock a few bonus levels. I'm only up to 3-2, and I can only imagine how much of a nightmare the world 5 stages will be to complete with 30 stars and all the red coins and flowers.

- Shadow of the Ninja (NES): I've had this game for about a year now, but never managed to beat it until last week, when I dedicated a few days to it. What a superb game, I went from disliking the game to loving it in two days. I even proceeded to re-beat it multiple times, even 1CC'ing it on my most recent try.

Currently I'm working on Contra: Shattered Soldier, 1CC'ing Kid Niki, and 1CC'ing Ghouls 'N Ghosts (the slightly more forgiving Genesis port).

Tony hawk's American Wasteland (Xbox 360, I didn't intend to beat this game again, But my rental company sent it to me as I was going to remove it from my queue, And I take back what I said about this game, It is pretty good, If you can play it online) Beat on 2/22/07

Yes, there is. The FAQ describes how to do it, took me an extra hour or 2 but it was worth it. But I think the sequel follows the "easier" ending, the one that you got.

Oh, and what i've beaten so far...

1/4: Psychic Storm - PC Engine CD
1/15: Exile - Turbo Grafx CD (Beat in one damn sitting)

Beat Super Castlevania IV a few times the other night.

Gave up on Iron Tank. I got to the last level but screwed up on the boss. When you continue, you restart nearby it, but you have to preservere through a hellish gauntlet of turrets to make it to the battle. That would be easy enough, the problem is you aren't given the ammo/supplies you'll need and the password starts you off in the same place minus the supplies as well.

So as near as I can tell, you basically have to always complete the game in one sitting and can't screw up on that final boss, or else you won't win.

I'll go back to it later, but it's a long, tough game and I don't feel like traversing it's perverse level design at the moment.

I'm currently working on Lunar: Silver Star Story for Sega CD. I am about halfway through, but due to school it will probably be a few weeks before I finish. The weekend is the only time I really have to play games lately.

#2 - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC)

Wow, what a great game. I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I did love Baldur's Gate II, which in turn gave me high hopes for this one. There were some Bioware-centric bugs in there (shit pathfinding AI, some annoying as hell bugs, etc), the endgame was tedious, and there were some scripted event problems (that kind of go hand in hand with the bugs)...but jesus, what a great game.

Took about 28 hours to play through my first time and I imagine if I'd used a FAQ and had a better optimized character then it would have taken a bit less. I didn't have enough direction when I was choosing my powers and skills and wound up with a pretty underpowered little Jedi in a lot of respects (wasted a power on force persuade, force valor, and other abilities that I wound up never using), but I guess that's part of the fun. If I ever play through the game again, I'm going to do it the Fallout-way: extremely persuasive talker :)

Just beat #3, Yakuza (PS2)

The game got mixed reviews and I agree with pretty much all of them. The localization blows (to be edgy they took the script and added a healthy dose of "fuck"s), the voice acting is uneven (ranging from average to flat out terrible), the fighting system is a bit sloppy, and there's load times all over the place...but despite that, I fucking loved the game. I mean like, flat out fucking loved it.

The only thing keeping it from being the true successor to Spikeout is the lack of any co op multiplayer.

But seriously, they went overboard on the language. I thought Liberty City Stories was pretty overdone, but in Yakuza you'll hear a vulgarity every other line...except in random encounters, where you'll hear one every other word.

#5 Marvel Ultimate Alliance

I loved every second of it, great game with some flaws. My biggest issue is getting trapped by stairs or an object and having to switch heroes just to get them back. Would have liked to seen the Punisher Hulk Nightcrawler Psylocke and Gambit as playable characters. For the 360/Wii/Ps3 versions how does Moon Knight/colossus handle?
