Originally listed for $50; someone offered him 80 but never followed through, so I matched that price. Too much???
I don't get it. If he listed it for $50, why did you offer more? Wouldn't you just say, "Hey, $50 sounds good... How about it?" That's what I've always done.
Went thrifting today and while I didn't see anything worthwhile in the realm of video games, I got a Swamp Thing trade paperback for $.49. It's the Love and Death collection from 1990. Very cool. Who donates this stuff?

That looks way more space friendly than my current setup of genesis model 1+ Sega CD & 32x. I'll have to start looking for one, they look pretty cool. I'll bet they are expensive though.
I picked one up a couple weeks ago for $9.50. Came with "official" JVC controller, but I had to spend $12.00 for a generic AC adapter from eBay to power the thing. Works fine, though. Sound is a little crunchy on some CDs, but the games sound fine, which is all I use it for.
And what are you cooking up there in your lab, there Dr. InsaneDavid-stein? You and your mutant Sega gear.

Carson Street, Pittsburgh's South side... they had an Atari 5200 Trak-ball, no box, dirty too -- $10. since my boxed and well-maintained trakball at home stopped working (again), I figured I'd gamble on $10 ... brought it home and it works PERFECTLY! Centipede and Missile Command for everybody! :)

It's odd sometimes how well dirty stuff works. I have a yellowed to-hell-and-back snes that somehow works a lot better than the other 2 mint ones that I have.

I went to a couple Goodwills this evening. Only got one game-related item, this book:
Gamemaster: Conquering Super Nintendo Games by Jeff Rovin - $1.99
As for non-gaming stuff, I got some Peanuts books at the other Goodwill. I'll post more about those in the comic strip books thread.

Big money spending day for me thanks to Gamestop's Buy 2 Get 1 Free on used Xbox games.
Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
Forza Motorsport
Headhunter Redemption
Star Wars Republic Commando
Secret Weapons Over Normandy
for ~$65 total. I'm really looking forward to tearing into Republic Commando and Resurrection of Evil in particular.
...and I saw a "new" copy of Raze's Hell for $10, which means the case was a bit beat up and i got a little plastic circle piece of tape that I guess is supposed to mean it's "sealed" or some such, but hell...it looks somewhat interesting.

Nothing really special this time, just from my time inside the JVC X'Eye I know that for the most part the Genesis side isn't all that much different from a Genesis Model 2. And the reason a stock Power Base Converter won't work with a Genesis Model 2 is because of its shape - so that should be the same reason it won't work with the JVC X'Eye.
I had to cut a lot more away than I had originally assumed since the dimensions that I planned the modification around before I had a PBC in my possession were incorrect. (which is always fun) Anyway, after some time with the handheld rotary tool and plenty of time with the bench grinder it's ready to go...
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-xeyepbc001.jpg
As you can see, from the top it looks like a normal PBC, a little shorter, but virtually the same. However the underside has been massively retooled. Not only does the curved fin on the back have to be removed (although I'm guessing just getting rid of that may make it fit on a Genesis Model 2), quite a bit of the lower shell needs to be cut away as well. More of it probably could have been saved but I opted to only keep what I needed - the area the board attaches to. I was kicking around just using this lower portion and fabricating a new shell that it would be housed inside, but why bother? The original upper shell is in tact and it's not like I'm going to build something that looks better than it does.
Although the screw holes to hold the lower shell to the upper shell are gone (lost when the lower shell was trimmed), the support tabs near the SMS cartridge slot fit up against posts in the upper shell. So I gave those posts a healthy dab of hot glue and then held the lower assembly level against it until the glue cooled and hardened. To keep the SMS card slot true to the opening in the top shell, I put a bead of hot glue beneath it, which is also the place where the remains of the lower shell and the upper shell are the closest. Honestly it's solid as a rock. I could have cleaned up the lower shell a bit more with the bench grinder but I was getting close to being late for work this morning and figured no one would ever see it anyway and it wasn't a big deal if they did. It works perfectly.
Not sure when I'll get things fleshed out for a little mod tutorial for my site, but it'll be up sooner or later. My $2 JVC X'Eye has come a long way. Now it plays Genesis cartridges, Mega Drive cartridges (USA/JPN mod), Sega CD's, Sega Master System cartridges, and Sega Master System cards.
So I guess this becomes another find - JVC X'Eye modified Power Base Converter.

Which begs the questions:
If you, over time, begin replacing all the lumber on an old ship, at what point does it become a different ship? Or does it?
If the cells in our bodies replace their protein every seven years, what makes us the same "person" we were when we were children?
Does a Sega have a soul?

One of my favorite local game stores picked up a bunch of sealed Dreamcast games recently. I only picked up one (Record of Lodoss War for $20), but some of the games they had included:
- Timestalker ($30)
- Bangai-O ($30)
- Giga Wing 2 ($40)
I like Treasure's stuff, so I might go back for a copy of Bangai-O (they had what looked like 5 or 6 copies of it). I actually want to try Lodoss War, but I refuse to open sealed games. Guess I'll *still* have to go download it from somewhere... ;)

I have quite a list here:
First off I got the following games in a trade with rustblackened.
Gunfighter: The Legend of Jesse James (PSX)
Skeleton Warriors (PSX)
Dracula: The Last Sanctuary (PSX)
Scooby Doo and The Cyber Chase (PSX)
VIP (PSX)
Bloody Roar 2 (PSX)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 (PSX)
Next I went to Play'N'Trade and got the following during my lunch break
Alundra 2 (PSX) 9.00
Dragon Ball Z Legends (PSX Import) 9.00
I also went to Play'N'Trade again a few hours ago I will explain why in a minute, but I took a slew of PS2 games in to trade and got the following
Driver (PSX)
Dino Crisis 2 (PSX)
Corpse Killer (Saturn)
NFL Quarterback Club' 96 (Saturn)
Road and Track presents: The Need For Speed (Saturn)
Virtual On: Cyber Troopers (Saturn)
Off-World Interceptor Extreme (Saturn)
Solar Eclipse (Saturn)
Independence Day (Saturn)
Dark Savior (Saturn)
And finally the main reason I took all those PS2 games in was so I could get the copy of Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo. So adding Chrono Trigger along with the above mentioned games I was able to get all of it for a hundred bucks. Of course this was all in store credit. Now I just have to figure out where to put it all.

Saturn:
Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean (C - $10)
It's just missing the foam insert and there was once a sticker on it that needs the goo taken off; other than that scratchless disc, minty manual (still has reg card and all), and no cracks or scuffs on case. Best Saturn find in a long while.

Well, I looked at my FYE receipts and noticed I still had about $75 in credit, so I went to the store and used it. I bought these games.

I only paid $5.21. I know, Final Fight Streetwise. But what can I say? I'm a sucker.
On the way out of the mall I went into the Hot Topic... I couldn't believe I did it but I was bored. They had a ton of stuff on clearance, and I saw some of the shirts. Most were tasteless crap, but I found this one and just giggled. It was only four bucks, too, so I bought it.

I had probably the best video game finds week I've ever had this week.
On Thursday, I went into a thrift store and found a loose PSone controller for $2 and a system I did not have, a boxed Mattel Aquarius for $9. However, I still am not sure if it has everything in it. I will take the weekend to inspect the contents.
However, today's yard sale finds take the cake...
House 1
Mario Party (N64, loose)
De-Lovely DVD - $1.50
Beyond the Sea DVD -- $1.50
House 2
Brokedown Palace DVD - $1
Loose SNES lot - $29 for all of these
Donkey Kong Country 2
Tetris Attack
Tetris Attack 2 (X2)
Super R-Type
Super Mario World
Super Mario All-Stars (X2)
Starfox
Super Bases Loaded
Pitfall
Stargate
Super Battletank
Super Space Invaders
F-Zero
Toy Story (cart was somehow opened, but I snapped it back together)
House 3
Identity DVD - $1
Grumpy Old Men DVD - $1
Animal House DVD - $1
Vegas Vacation - $1
House 4
I got the following PSone lot for $4 total. All these PSone games are loose except Namco Museum Vol. 3 which was complete:
Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time
Cleopatra Fortune
Elmo's Number Journey
Gundam Battle Assault 2
Monster's Inc.
Namco Museum Vol. 3 (GH)
Sesame Street Sports
Syphon Filter
Tekken
The best find was at a church yard sale. Someone had donated their entire Playstation collection including a complete loose grey system and 3 Nyko memory cards. When I saw it, I almost crapped my pants! :O
I got the whole lot for $25. All of the following games were mint and complete (except all the promotional stuff for Lunar).
Breath of Fire III
Chocobo's Dungeon II
Lunar Silver Story: Complete (yes, the artbook was inside the slipcase)
Destruction Derby
Nuclear Strike
Time Crisis
Riven: Myst II
Sled Storm
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II
Worms Armaggedeon
These three kids told me that the stuff had been donated, and I think they had planned to buy it if no one else did. Sorry!

15 bucks at a yard sale. There's a lot going on in the picture; the phone and cookies weren't included, but the plastic hamburger patty and keyboard were. Among all the wires are 5 NES controllers, 2 zappers, 2 aftermarket PS controllers, an NES AC adapter, and an XM radio AC adapter(?????). Felt bad, 'cause there was a kid there trying to convince his grandma not to sell the stuff, but she was adamant and said they had a ps2 so didn't need it. Based on the age of the kid and how it all sounded, I don't think it was really his or anything. The 3 games I'll end up keeping are r4s and r5s, but otherwise not really special.

Was out on Saturday and decided to stop by an indie game retailer who was once kind of a living legend around here. Well he slowly slipped down in popularity and currently has a single "store" akin to the shop at the beginning of Gremlins... anyway. Now days his shop is where systems go to rot and die. Among the dust and cobweb covered Saturns and Sega CD's I came across the big square, a Panasonic FZ-1. It was so dirty I passed it by but on the way out I asked if he had any other 3DO's. Ziggy replied that he didn't even know he still had one so I pulled out the dust coated FZ-1. Curious, I asked him what he wanted for it, $10. I asked if he would plug it in real quick just to see if the tray would open - it sprung to life and ejected the disc tray. Also had a copy of Crash 'n Burn inside - free is good no matter how common it is. Can't ship them for that cheap so I figured why not.

No controller and she's missing the front of the disc tray and the expansion port cover but seems to be working fine. After some disassembly and cleaning (was horribly dirty) things seem to be running great. Although I can't play it yet, I was finally able to take a look at the Sailormoon S fighting game for the 3DO and from the attract screens I'm impressed. Nice hand drawn looking 2D sprite based fighter, much more suited to the series than the PlayStation and Saturn Sailormoon fighting games. The CG intro video also beat the pants off that of the other games mentioned. I have a controller on the way right now from eBay so I'll finally be able to play the sucker.
Was meant to be this way, I didn't care to own a 3DO until I obtained that single game - which I was able to get on the cheap. I hadn't seen a 3DO in years and hadn't found an eBay auction that met what I was looking for. (was trying to find a loose FZ-1) Then I go see an indie seller I haven't talked to in years either, and boom, there's a 3DO for $10.
So if anyone out there has spare 3DO parts (controllers, expansion port door, and the disc tray panel) sitting around, get in touch with me. If anyone has a dead FZ-1 I'd like to pick up the parts only to cut down on shipping costs.

Totally Unreal (Unreal Gold + Unreal Tournament) brand new, box a bit beat up - $5
PREY, brand new, box quite beat up - $5
I wasn't sure if I should buy them, the guy wouldn't lower the prices... but I've been looking for Unreal Gold for a while, and I've heard good things about Prey, so I splurged.

I went to the flea market all excited Saturday cause it was the first nice day that I know a lot of people would be set up. I get there and a few minutes latter a guy walks past with 2 Intellivisions and some other stuff. Damn it, cause I have games for it. So it didnot start off on a good note but that was changed.

JVC X' Eye appears, command? BUY! All I saw was the CD games and then looked in the box and there it was. Tomcat Alley doen't have a disc the karaoke disc was in there.
The best part was I only spent $46.
Gaint lot=$20
Qbert tin=$1
X' Eye lot=$25
No haggling was involved either. So this has to be one of my best deals not to mention $40 was from my Ameridarts cab that I got for free and sold.

Mr.collection, you forgot to mention what you found with the JVC X'Eye. No, not the karaoke disc, not the JVC branded controller, but the power adapter AA-S95J which many an X'Eye owner doesn't have. Harder to find than the system or controller it be. Now clean her up and USA/JPN modify her. :)
