Then this is probably the first time in my 30 years of life that I've been "in".

You and me both.

Nice shoes, BTW :)

and the Zelda cart is yellow, but they didn't have it in 2XL.

A yellow Zelda cart could actually be correct as I believe it was one of the NES test carts. Unless I'm thinking of another... I know Duck Hunt was one of them.

Capote and In Cold Blood both for $3. Nice find.

Fun fact: The same bin had Capote and In Cold Blood, single releases, for $3 too. :p

Edit: All you people complaining about the Yellow cart have to think about this - it's not easy, or cheap, to put golden foil color on a shirt. :p

I knew about the Zelda test cart, but I doubt that anyone actually intended to put that on a shirt.

I've been trying to limit my posting in this thread to just when I find something a little more interesting of late. Happily, it seems like I've posted quite a bit lately!

http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/Finds/finds137.jpg

Mere mortals don't come across Planescape: Torment very often. Ha! I kill me! There... I did it again! Guffaw guffaw. (4th disc was being scanned when I took the pic)

Grand total was about 10 bucks for all that (it was 25% off day!).

Nothing great for game related stuff, but things I've wanted for awhile and something unrelated that's too much of a deal not to be happy about.

Starting with the game stuff, just some purchases from Fry's as it's been awhile since I've even looked in their games section. I've wanted to play Dragon Quest VIII for awhile (I honestly never cared for the franchise but this one looked interesting) but refused to pay $20.00 for a used copy. I was also always involved in other games at the time but now that Grandia III a long overdue replay of Neutopia are done, I have time. I've only played a little but I'm really enjoying the old school feel. NHL 2K9 is the first hockey game I've bought in a few years and while it doesn't play as clean as the NHL 2K games from a couple years back, it does have my Sharks commentary crew - so it's excusible.

The non gaming find is what made the month so far however. Over the past few years Tomy has been releasing the Thomas line of the Takara Tomy Plarail stuff stateside (under the Trackmaster brand with that stupid different style track). However recently they lost the rights for Thomas and this Christmas season brough over a couple of their standard Plarail items to test the waters (under the "Tomy Trains" name). They sold pretty well considering there was no advertising but some of the large sets didn't move even after an initial price drop. Now that they've come into early clearance I simply couldn't wait any longer.

I've always loved trains and Japanese toys and the combination of them in the modern Plarail line is simply insane. This was about $40.00, marked down from $99.99, but the original price at the start of December was $139.99.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-01-06(02).jpg

I couldn't wait until clearing a space the next day, so my girlfriend snapped a picture of me setting up what would fit on the dining room table. LOL

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-01-06(03).jpg

Today I set up the whole thing on the floor and the amount of stuff in the box is crazy. If the price drops again I may buy the remaining sets and store them away as Christmas gifts for next year. There's also a Japanese living store on the other side of the city that sells Plarail stuff individually for $2.00 per piece. For track that's a little absurd but for locomotives and coaches that's not bad at all. I may have to take a trip out on Saturday. :)

I was at another mall with a Hot Topic in it tonight, and decided to see if they had that "Home Schooled" shirt in my size. They didn't, so I decided to see if there was anything in the clearance section that struck my interest. They had a few Mortal Kombat logo shirts, and I got the last 2XL for $9.98. Here's what it looks like (if I had a digital camera, you'd see an actual pic, but you'll have to settle for what I got off of Hot Topic's site):

http://i40.tinypic.com/wa6efp.jpg

Also, I also spotted several Resistance, Call of Duty, Halo 3, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shirts with the clearance stuff, so here's a heads up to anyone who may be interested (though the HT I got the Zelda shirt at only had the Halo 3 shirts left, so YMMV).

Leather mid length jacket I picked up from Goodwill. Alittle rough around the edges but still in fantastic condition. I've always wanted to have a leather jacket and now I can finally live out my dreams of being a modern day immortal. I just hope my katana is completely concealed by the jacket's length.

Best day I've had in a while.

I got to the flea market and found some good CDs, but the discs were missing... lousy thieves. :p One of the booths I usually buy PC software and games from had tons of NES games... for ten dollars each. I only went "WTF" and left right away.

Right after I left I stumbled upon this:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2009-01-07-ff7.jpg

Discs 2 and 3 are fine, but disc 1 is severely scratched and there's A LOT scratches on the label side, so who knows if it works. I'm gonna get it resurfaced, see if that fixes things. I hope.

A little while later I found a booth that had several DVD sets.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2009-01-07-dvds.jpg

The cost? FIVE BUCKS FOR ALL OF THESE! I also got a copy of Lego Star Wars for the mac. They also had the boxes to Family Guy Season 1 and Stewie Griffin The Untold Story, but someone stole the discs @&#$@& :( I'm not sure what to do with these, because I hate Seinfeld and West Wing is all drama stuff. :P

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2009-01-07-dvdpccd.jpg

More DVDs. All were $2 a pop, the game was $2 too, and the CD was $1.

Not a bad haul for one day. :D

I could never get into it. I admit, it DID make me laugh, but the show as a whole didn't sit well with me.

As for the Switched-On Bach disc? It's really freakin' weird but it's a fun thing. I always end up finding lots of classical music, and I tend to go for the electronic versions. ;)

I bought this shirt just because people look at me funny and tend to respect my personal space when I wear it ;)

Are you in Houston too? I work right down the road from this mall.

I also got the Metal Slug shirt from Hot Topic. They had it in the clearance section of their website for about $7. Gets lots of compliments around town (the shirt that is). ;)

Another something worth posting about! I kind of splurged and picked up two Mario Game&Watch units plus the boxed pocket Simon for $75 off CL. All are in tip top shape with battery covers and new batteries.

This is I think my 8th 'Target' wiimote in the wild, this time for $15 at Goodwill. I'm beginning to suspect people buy these for a party and then return them, since only one has been defective, the rest all worked straight away. My family (parents, sister, FiL & BiL) is now pretty much totally stocked for wiimotes, and my parents don't even have a Wii yet (they plan to get one).

Ice Climber I picked up for $10 new at GameCrazy, and I was planning on flipping it, as I thought these were commanding a good price. Ooops, looks like I paid about the going rate or more. Maybe I was thinking of something else. I might hang onto it since I always liked the game anyway.

Evidently, I won an Xbox Live contest. I d/l'ed a GTA game pic a few months ago, which apparently entered me into a contest. I got a R* GTA IV aluminum bat, one of 2000 made. -- I'm too lazy to get my camera right now, but it is the same one pictured on kotaku:
http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/07/gta_iv_baseball_bat.jpg

Surprised the hell out of me -- there was a tiny note in the giant package that explained it. I didnt find the note until about 20 minutes after opening the package -- before reading it, I was convinced I had a stalker in Michigan who knew I liked video game swag.

Look at the back of the system. Look for the port where the AV cable goes that says "ANALOG AV OUT". If there is another port next to it labeled "DIGITAL AV OUT", then that is the original first release of the GameCube.

Game Gear:
Streets of Rage (cart only)
Dynamite Headdy (w/cart case)
Ms. Pac-Man (w/cart case)
Ariel The Little Mermaid (w/cart case)
Tom & Jerry: The Movie (w/cart case)
World Series Baseball (w/cart case)

World Series Baseball was a buck, the others were $2.50 each.

SNES:
Super Valis IV (cart only) - $5

Dreamcast:
Daytona USA (complete) - $5
Sonic Adventure (disc only) - free

Books:
-Compute's Guide To Nintendo Games - $3.99 at Goodwill
A little pricey, but looks like an interesting read. It even includes a review of the Nintendo Cereal System. There's some information about the book on /tsr's site (http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/books/compute.html) (which includes the full cereal review).

-Zelda: Ocarina of Time official Nintendo Power guide - $2.99 at Goodwill
I have yet to play through Ocarina of Time, though I came very close back in the day. But the game froze up somehow, and I reset the N64 to discover that my game's file had become corrupt and was inaccessible. Hopefully this guide will provide me some motivation to beat the game after all these years.

Finally, I got the following manuals for free:

N64:
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Tetrisphere
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Nagano Winter Olympics '98
WCW Mayhem

GBA:
Duel Masters: Kaijudo Showdown

(I'm keeping the Zelda, Turok, and Tetrisphere manuals, and the other three are up for trade - send me a PM if you need them.)

$1.00 each at my local junk shop. The owner is on hard times and said I could have any of the older games (Pre PS2 era) for a dollar each.

Street Fighter II (SNES x2)
Pac Man 2 (SNES)
Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3 (SNES)
Tertris 2 (SNES)
WWF No Mercy (N64)

I'll go back tomorrow and look through the stacks again. Would grabbed a bunch more today but he is only taking cash now and I had a small amount of cash only on me today...

Yesterday:
Bought GripShift from one of my local Gamestop stores (it's on eBay now. :p) I also noticed that one of my local Gamestop stores had a used copy of Karaoke Revolution American Idol, and I had one of those 25% off coupons, so I went to buy it, but they didn't seem to have a copy. Blah. I searched high and low, and nothing. They had copies of the other KR games... for $40+ each. D: I already own them all, though.

I figured I should use the coupons to buy other stuff... so I bought EyeToy Play 1, 2, Groove and Kinetic for $15 after discount and a $3.50 gift card I had lying around. But wait, that's not all! For some reason EyeToy Play was ten bucks, but EyeToy Play plus an Eyetoy was $4. o_O So I grabbed the $4 one and got a free EyeToy too. Now I have two Eyetoys.

I also went to the FYE to pick up what few Gamecube games they had, and they refused to honor the advertised discount they had going on. They said that it was "for new games only", which is funny because they sell new games as used. They DID have another ad that said 50% off ALL XBox, Gamecube and GBA stock, but the clerk refused to listen to me. I did pick up that EyeToy Operation Spy game for seven bucks, but that was it.

Screw the FYE at Imperial Valley Mall, seriously.

A bit later, I went to the flea market and picked up a loose copy of Zork Grand Inquisitor (DVD version) with manual, cica Shareware For Windows (August 1995, 2 CD set), WIN Platinum Volume 1 Version 1.0 (lots of shareware stuff) and a miscellaneous CD for MobyGames.

Today:
That booth owner who said he was going to get in more games today? Well, by the time I got there... he'd already been cleaned out. :( I did manage to buy a like new Altec Lansing VS2320 (http://www.alteclansing.com/index.php?file=north_product_detail&iproduct_id=vs2320) two-speaker set for seven bucks, however. The difference between these speakers and my old ones is amazing.

... And that's it. Now I have to buy a new DVD drive because my current one just died on me and refuses to open anymore. :(

Same thing happened to me. All of their unopened gamecube games rang up at full price. FYE has always been weird like that though, I managed to find a sealed copy of parapa the rapper there circa 2005, but it still rang up full retail price of 49.99, subsequently, I got obscure for ps2 there for 9.99 new, so...

Picked up a few things yetserday.
NES
Venice Beach Volleyball - I think I may have this already, but I'm pretty sure my label wan't anywhere near as nice as this one, so I grabbed it.

Silent Assault - A Color Dreams game I never saw in the wild till yesterday.

Robodemons - Another Color Dreams game (all these years collecting, only have ONE Color Dreams game, and then find two in the same day? Kinda strange, guess it was my day for unlicensed games....)

Tiny Toons Cartoon Workshop - Been looking for this forever, it seems like. Had J.J. written on the front label in black marker, but I got it off, so it was able to be purchased. Yes, I am one of those collectors.

Also picked up 13 NES-logo'd dust covers, only need about 100 more. (or so)

Sega Genesis - Usually I neglect my Genny collection, for some reason yesterday, I went gung-ho on it.

Trampoline Terror - No manual, but it had the box and it's a clean game. Has a plain white label with black text? Is this normal?

Chakan - A very nice, clean, complete copy.

Berenstein Bears Camping Adventure - Complete game.

Flashback - The quest for identity - Has the manual/comic book thing, but also had a Sonic manual behind it I didn't see till later.

Tiny Toon Adventures - Buster's Hidden Treasure - Complete game, decent enough shape to buy.

And lastly, Kenseiden for Master System. Somebody wrote on the map in the manual with red pen, but it doesn't look too bad. Cart is extremely nice.

All this booty was a paltry $85. Some may argue that I paid "full price" for this, but I consider it part of the hunt. I had to travel an hour plus drive from home to get this stuff, so I don't mind paying "retail". I'd rather pay a dollar more, and find it in the wild than sit at home and Ebay it. It's part of the fun. Anyways, that's my latest find. Also, picked up Mirror's Edge, Legendary, Gears of War 2, and Monopoly for the 360 last week.

It's funny, even though their prices are godawful most of the time, it's almost certain that any used game you buy there will be damn near mint. I've NEVER had any problems with them in that regard.

Last Friday while hanging out with a friend, he struck up the idea to check out a local thrift shop for goods since he recently found a gift certificate from way back. We go over and the first thing I spot in the electronics is a 7000 series PS1 for $6.95, which at the time seemed outstanding. No perhipherals though and missing the PP cover. There was also a PSOne with controller for $9.99, also quite reasonable but without the PSU is a bit trickier to manage. While I checked the next aisle over for anything I though I heard some noises from the previous aisle and when I went around to see what was up the PS1 was gone. Here I was prepared to buy it in a small town store and literally 40 seconds after I see it... poof! I thought at first it was moved around the store by an employee but strangely someone came in bought it bickety-bam. I was little disappointed although my buddy managed to get a nice Hitachi television with the voucher so it wasn't a loss.

From there on out I slowly decide it was good that I didn't get the PS1 since there might be better deals elsewhere, which leads me to Monday where I decide to check a couple big city Goodwills for wares. The first one I go to was apparently mis-mapped as it ended up being on the opposite side of the street. I go in and see not much beyond crt monitors/tvs, keyboards, and many likely junked printers. While I leave some glass breaks in the store, nobody pardon me lifts their head so I figure it's not much to fuss over a possible 25cents.

On to the next store, downtown and again it's mis-mapped to the opposite side. I go in and look around finding nothing much again, although on the way out I spot the jackpot, a Dreamcast for $9.99, system only. I'm pretty much sold on that and after paying what happens? Glass breaks in the store, which invariably causes a good laugh on my behalf and a near fitting end. Why near fitting? Since once I left I also looked in the disc tray to find Bust-A-Move 4, so I got an Apr-00(Rev1) Dreamcast and game for $10.79 and they both worked. To top it off I went by a local game shop afterwards which is notorious for overpricing out the wazoo and showed them what a Dreamcast should be priced at, not $59.99 used w/o VMU. Oh, and I got a cheese danish pastry, which was also worth it. Hope you enjoyed the tale.

It's funny, even though their prices are godawful most of the time, it's almost certain that any used game you buy there will be damn near mint. I've NEVER had any problems with them in that regard.

Yeah, when I worked at FYE a few years back, they had just started selling used games and their policy was that if a CD, DVD or game trade-in had any scratches whatsoever on it, it got refused. We'd hold them up to the light and give them all a good look over. That, and only the managers could do the buybacks.

If our manager refused it, she'd give me the option of offering the customer a few bucks under the table because she knew I was a collector. That was one of the reasons I stayed there so long before I left because it certainly wasn't the pay. :D

Next I went to a Goodwill and got

Picked up the new/sealed Xbox titles at FYE for about $2.50 each. They were 75% off $9.99. The NES carts were found at Goodwill for the standard $2.50 each. The Operation Secret Storm is an R6 incidentally. I had never heard of it but my eyes kind of lit up when I noticed the black NES cart in the cd/cassette junk bin. I believe I legitimately have nearly twenty cart only copies of Tyson now. I don't guess I've ever paid over $5.00 for any of'em.

Yea,I can't give away Gamecubes, let alone sell them :p...I have too many now..
This seems to be the all over the place system at the flea markets I go to..I didn't see one Nintendo today nor games ..

I bought that GC and the vendor next door had a loose Platinum version banged up and> "amazingly" he sold it for $15.00 ..Whoa!! that person must of wanted it for some reason..

I actually bought it because it was boxed and the seller only wanted to sell the two boxed systems together for the price ..(I try to give him some biz so that he keeps bringing me things)
I also wanted to buy something :D...since it was so dead there...

I'm either going to throw it on ebay and hope to get a little more because it's boxed..Or keep it as a boxed system..or give it away as a gift someday to one of my relatives..

My Sis in law, this is the only system she has,she won't buy anything else.

Crazily,I don't seem to ever come across the Purple GameCubes..It's always Black or Platinum..

That's good, the purple ones are hideous and seem to be just a little bit harder to unload.

Unrelated, and not that anyone probably cares, but that Wii Rock Band I got for $50 turned out to have a bad red drum. I got a chance to take the drum head off and tested just flicking the sensor, and that worked fine so I put it all back together and it works great now. Not sure if we'll keep it or not. I don't see it getting a lot of use because we don't have room to leave it set up, but my wife seems to want to keep it. Maybe if we just use the guitar and mic and only pull out the drums occasionally...

This one has been in the works for a while. I was supposed to meet the guy on Monday, but he'd forgotten to bring it to work so that didn't happen. He said he'd get back to me Wed. or Thurs, but that didn't happen either. But today he called and I went and picked it up. Here is the pic they'd sent me, but they were selling two lots, and had it all jumbled together, so we had to fish out all the right stuff. For as firm as they were in emails and their ad about keeping the lots separate, I was surprised that they didn't care which console I took, so I got the non-yellowed very nice one, same for the controller. Also, they'd found a couple more games and wanted to keep the numbers the same between lots, so I got Super Mario All-Stars as well!

Not really a find, but a neat little deal.

I bought RockBand for 360 when it first came out in Canada - was $199.99 at our Future Shop (owned by Best Buy, same kinda store)

Now these were hard to find - I actually had bought 3 that day. One was mine, two were for friends. After talking to the sales lady, she pitched their replacment plan. And I went for it - $30 on top of the game (which dropped to 169.99 a month later) got me a neat warranty. Anything went wrong with any of the parts and they ship me a gift card for full purchase value plus the cost of the extended warranty.

My whammy bar went on the guitar a few months ago... and then I moved. I threw it all in the box for the move and called them when I unpacked. I've just printed my label to send the whole thing back (microphone had stopped working too) and I'm getting a $230 + taxes gift card in the mail :D

Also, I couldn't get the guitar apart so the lady OK'd me to snap the neck in half and send it in that way... that made me rather nervous but I figured wth.
