Ditched comcast, so this is my first time using photobucket... please let me know if anything is off.
Couple nice things today. GW of course always has their 'CDs' marked 4.99, which sucks, but I'll grudgingly pay it for good stuff like this. The DS game is new and was 6.99 even at GW, where Target dumped it for some reason. The Mattel games were $1.50 each, and came bagged w/ the jacks and fishing games at a Savers.

Anyone know what order I should play the Jedi Knight games in, or if it matters for Jedi Academy? I've forgotten a lot about them.

Well first is an old PC game called Dark Forces. Then Jedi Knight: DF 2 (great game). Then Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. That is the order of release, not sure about storyline though.

Not a terrible lot for $30 if you can use some of the stuff, but the only notables value-wise I see offhand are Metroid, which runs 15-20, and SMW at 5-15. Also Zelda is 10-20 since that's the collector's edition version.

I asked how much I owed her and she told me to take them free of charge. She just asked that I leave one of each for her employees. Free guides? From a chic gamer? I told her I was in love and she told me she's not into bald guys before having security escort me out the door. Theres nothing like a full plate of free strategy guides accompanied by a side order of rejection.
I also picked up:
Xbox 360 60 gig $240 at Circuit City's clearance sale
Lost Planet $9.99 at Kmart
Virtual Fighter 5 $13.98 at Target
Max Payne special edition dvd $12.99 at Record &Tape Traders

Gamestop. They had a huge drop today. More often than not you will get denied, but I lucked out. The one shop had a huge stack behind the desk so I figured I might as well ask. The guy working said to have at it, he was just going to throw them away. The other shop left a few on the rack (most notably the DoubleJump guides). I had the dude ring them up and he said just to take them. He just as easily could have said "sorry, can't sell them". You just have to be cool about it and hope the people working will return the favor. Four other shops I went to either had stacks behind the desk or had already pitched them. I tried to talk my way in but they weren't having it. Ah well.
12P, you went the hoard route man. If you're not careful you'll ruin it because they'll think you're trying to sell them. I try not to be greedy, I just take one of each per place, and even then I leave the ones I don't care about.
Of course I grabbed all seven of the Zelda: Phantom Hourglass hardcovers awhile ago...

This has been the first penny guide lot I scored in over two years so of course I was going to be greedy. Like you said, they usually tell me no or that they've already been thrown out or had the covers ripped off. I honored her request and left one of each for her employees. She also told me that they just throw them out anyway. So the way I see it is that they'll either throw them out or give them to customers and have less to throw out that night.
As for ruinung it by having them think I sell them, do you honestly think Gamestop employees don't do the same thing with penny guides as well as ALL the freebees they get from merchandisers(of which I am one of)? True story: one day I was looking around in EB Games/Gamestop and a Microsoft rep was there working on the 360 kiosk. For some reason their were four employees(including the manager) in the store at the time, all standing around the register. One of the employees asked what kind of freebees the rep had for them this time and he said he had a bunch of first party Microsoft games(YES, actual free games). As the employees(and the manager) looked thru the free games(there were only two titles but enough for all of them) one of the employees said "I have both of these games but I can atleast sell one on ebay". He said this while his manager stood right next to him and the Microsoft rep stood 7 feet away from him. So in conclusion, I know you meant well wth your comment my friend, but I'm not ruining anything. Gamestop employees do the exact same thing, to a much worse degree because they have axcess to much more than just strategy guides.

Think about it this way: they aren't supposed to sell/give you the guides (unless you actually find them on the shelf). By doing so they are actually doing you a favor. When they see you grabbing a bunch of the same guide it may leave a bad taste in their mouth and they probably will be less willing to help you next time. I mean nobody needs two guides for Fracture, why not leave one for the next guy looking for penny guides?
This is probably all coming off as more judgemental than I intend it. I guess what I'm saying is, pick your battles. There are definitely times when you should grab as many as you can, but don't do it every time. Just get a bunch of the great guides. In my experience you'll be much more likely to score again the next drop because the GS employees will just think of you as a fellow gamer and not an ebay hawker.

It's my understanding that the policy varies from store to store. This store actually had ALL the guides marked with a one cent price tag and bar code.
By doing so they are actually doing you a favor. When they see you grabbing a bunch of the same guide it may leave a bad taste in their mouth and they probably will be less willing to help you next time.
Like I said earlier, it's been awhile since I've found any penny guides. It was nice that she didn't charge me the penny a piece but I would have gladly paid. As for the bad taste, it isn't anything she hasn't seen from her employees and other customers over and over again.
I mean nobody needs two guides for Fracture, why not leave one for the next guy looking for penny guides?.
I did leave one, lol.

Again, I see your point. But this is a Gamestop thats about 30+ miles from me. I was just in the neighborhood and got lucky that they had a crate full of penny guides. I asked and she told me to help myself as long as I leave one each for her employees, which I complied with. So there was no battle picked. I was just relieveing them of stuff they would have thrown out that night. Some people are going to think that you are taking this shit wayyyyy to personal but I know better than that. Trust me, I know how the penny guide system works these days. Most(90% of the time) end up in one of three places(and this is for all stores, not just Gamestop/EB): 1) employees possesion, 2) ebay by the employees or 3) the trash.
So I wasn't doing anything that the next person wouldn't do. I respected her request to leave one each for her employees, left her with less to throw out that night(they were heavy) and offered to pay but she refused. All in all, no one got hurt so I'd say it was a pretty good experience.

thanks for the discussion of the penny guides, as I've never even heard of them before today. So, while at the mall, I stopped in the GS, bought a couple of Xbox games and asked about the penny guides. He was very hesitant - almost suspiciously so - and said he only had "Warhammer Online" which I said, "Oh, I don't PC game, so forget it but thanks." With this info he said "We also have some Spore. and maybe some others."
So, I said "any for consoles?" and he said no. When my transaction was complete, he said "I think we might have Devil May Cry 4" and I said "Great! I actually play that one, can I have one" and he reluctantly got the managers keys, went to the back and came out with one. He never volunteered to allow me to look through the box of guides or anything, so I just left and was thankful to have that one.
From now on that will be a standard question at every GS.

There's still several copies of Conker's Bad Fur Day at the Wal-Mart near me. They're still priced at $75.83 for some reason. I last asked to get them scanned over a year ago and they were still that price, I assume nothing has changed since then as the price is still listed the same.

I believe that. When I started merchandising at Wal-Mart a few years ago, one of them had Resident Evil Gaiden for the Game Boy Color. This was around when the DS came out. I had them scan it and it was still $30.....atleast two generations later. The manager told me that this was the final price Capcom dropped it to and that it would stay that way until it sold. I always thought stores did their own price drops to clear inventory. Actually, I know for a fact that Target does.

I got a couple of things this week.
Gamestop
Commando Steel Disaster (DS, new) - $14.99
Metal Walker (GBC, loose) - $2.50
Ninja Boy 2 (GB, loose) - $2.50
The Adventures of Star Saver (GB, loose) - $1.25
Unison (PS2, new, well, "Gamestop" gutted new) - $14.99
K-Mart
Super Robot Taisen (GBA, new) - $9.99
Tomb Raider Anniversary (PS2, new) - $9.99
I was happy to find Unison again. I owned it back in the day, thought it sucked and traded it back into Gamestop sometime in 2002, and then when I started to like the PS2 and rhythm-based games more, I couldn't find another new or used copy of it, so it was cool that there was one just sitting on the shelf at this particular GS.
Also, I think I might already own Tomb Raider so it might be going back soon. It's a shame when you own so many PS2 releases that you're not sure whether you've bought the same game twice or not. ;)
To weigh in on the penny guides thing, I remember I used to hoard the hell out of those things, but they're a pain in the ass if you ever have to move out of an apartment. Hundreds of penny guides = heavy as hell = serious back strain.

No thanks, I wanted that one but not that bad. I'm still half convinced that the game sucks.
From now on that will be a standard question at every GS.
I would recommend not doing that. Most of the time you'll just get the "we can't sell penny guides blah blah" talk. Your best bet is to either catch them on the shelves or to make nice with an employee and then check him on drop days. You can also look for stacks behind the counter and then ask about one particle guide to feel out whoever is working. And of course there's also dumpster-diving.
Check out http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187222 for the latest drops. There's a decent chance of a Best Buy drop this Monday.

Good day at the flea market today:
Complete Tales of the Abyss for PS2 $10
Complete Yakuza for PS2 $10
Complete Blood Omen Legacy of Kain for PSX $5
Case but no manual Chronicles of the Sword PSX $10
Complete Brave Fencer Mushashi PSX $10
Loose Cima the Enemy GBA $8
Tales of the Abyss goes for $30 at Gamestop and sometimes even more on Ebay, so I was glad to pick it up in good condition and complete for that price. It puts me much closer to completing my collection of "PS2 RPGS I want."
It basically encompasses everything but most strategy RPGS, which I don't like that much. The only major one I really, really need is Digital Devil Saga 2, which is ridiculous online and hard to find at Gamestops where I live in Eastern Kentucky. I've wanted to play Yakuza for a while and thought that was a decent price. I tried to buy it for $13 at Gamestop recently but it was one of those times when they had the case and not the game.
I thought the Blood Omen game was a pretty good deal, considering it was in nice condition. I don't think the other two PSX games were that good a deal, but at least I was able to talk the guy down from $15 on Chronicles of the Sword. "That goes for $60 on Ebay," he said. Yeah, not so much, but at least I didn't have to wait or fool with shipping costs. No manual, though, which I didn't notice until I got to the car.
I also found a copy of PSX Shadow Tower at the booth where I got Brave Fencer Mushashi and had talked the kid into letting me have that and Mushashi for $15. I checked right before I bought it, though, and it had a scratch that looked unrepairable. It wasn't in the original case, either, the back cover was some pinball game. Too bad, because I need Shadow Tower for my PSX RPG collection.
I've also got Wild Arms IV and V, Virtua Quest and Alundra coming in the mail. Getting closer on the RPG front.

I'm a big spender today all from a CL ad:
NES w/ 100 games. The gray top on the NES wasn't screwed on, which I didn't notice till I got home :embarrassed:, so I kinda doubt it works too well. Also, he was still looking for an ac adapter for it while I was there, and his method was to just see if the plug fit the NES. When one did, he proclaimed that was it and what he always had used... it was a 30V! I didn't make a stink about it though. This was at his asking price of $150. I think I'll get to add about 5 or 6 games to my collection, was sad to see nothing all the 'special', though. Finally have Ice Climber, which had somehow eluded me till now.
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/finds143b-1.jpg
Same seller had an overpriced Gen, N64, PS2, SNES w/ half the shell broken off (still works). All bundles w/out enough games to be worth it. Also he had a PSP that he said was a slim w/ MGAcid and SoCom for 100, which I was a bit tempted on since I've been looking at PSPs. I'd never held one before, so don't know by looking what a slim is, so he almost had me till I opened the battery compartment and saw the 1001. Don't think it was intentional on his part, he really just didn't seem to know much about it. Not a horrible deal, but I wouldn't have had enough cash w/ me anyway.
Oh, and he also had a little DS lot for $175, which I paid $150 for, and probably should have haggled more on, but since I'd already agreed to the NES lot price that made it a little more difficult.
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/finds143a-1.jpg
Pretty satisfied, and only a little soured by a slightly uncool move on his part, which was to have a few games set aside on a nearby table for another guy, one of which was an NES game (Bubble Bobble), the others were N64 SSB & Mario 64. The 'guy' showed up while I was there and was asking about anything else for sale, which is part of why I didn't haggle more on the DS lot, now that I recall. Those three games were sold for $15. I would have given him more given the chance, but you have to be careful in those situations so that the seller doesn't decide everything he has is worth more. He was selling stuff specifically to get a Wii and/or PS3, so he seemed thrilled to get enough for the Wii just from me.
Apologies for the novel, but I've got one more little thing to add (not very interesting, I just feel the need to be complete). The 'guy' was in his car for a while after and while I was loading my tote into the car. Then while I was going through the DS cases to double check that the games were there (which I stupidly did not do before buying; don't worry, they were all there minus Madden 07 that I gave back since it was just the case) the 'guy' pulled around and asked me if I had any Saturn or Turbo Graphx stuff for sale. I actually do have a TG-16 console to sell, but he wanted a boxed one. He did offer me a Turbo Express, but I could tell the price would be higher than I'd be willing to pay since it isn't really my thing (key words mentioned were "super rare" " hard to find", and funnily enough, "from that movie Enemy of the State"). I've maybe seen that guy around before, but couldn't say for sure. Weird how that happens after a while.
Again, sorry for the excessively long post.

$15 for all the N64 stuff with a 3rd party genesis controller randomly in the box.
That's not a random Genesis controller, that's a Super Joy III Famiclone 2nd player controller. It's not compatible with the Genesis. I don't think you'd want to use it anyway, those things are pretty lousy to use.
Today I hit a flea market and all I found was Blazing Dragons for the PS1 for $5. I was almost tempted to buy a PowerMac Dual-Core G5 Tower for $20, until I looked inside and saw that someone with no computer experience tried to take it apart for some reason. No drives, heat sinks loose inside the case, a few parts missing. If I thought I could get it working again, I would have splashed out for it. But not in the shape it was in.

It basically encompasses everything but most strategy RPGS, which I don't like that much. The only major one I really, really need is Digital Devil Saga 2, which is ridiculous online and hard to find at Gamestops where I live in Eastern Kentucky.
I'm surprised those are going for so high. When I was back in the US for Christmas I went to Fry's -- they had many new copies (at least 5-10 on the shelf) and they were $29, IIRC. I would have snagged a couple had I known! I figured it was another Atlus reprint.

I just figured it was a genesis controller since it fit into the slot and was shaped like one.

I hope it works too, however I do not own a first generation Sega Genesis at the moment. Not really a problem as we have about 20 sitting around at the store, so I'll likely just pick one up from there. We have core systems but no cords, so I'm sure I can pick it up for next to nothing.
I'm quite happy now though, as I have every version of the Sega CD that was released stateside, even though I still lack Snatcher for it.
I'm beginning to think that I should start taking pictures of my finds. Especially since I enjoy actually being able to see other peoples find much more so than just reading through a list of games. It's always fun to see what everybody can find out there in the wild vs. amazon/ebay/etc.

Yeah, pics are definitely a plus. We had a brief stint a while back where I and some others bitched about the lack of pics and for a while after there were lots of them, which was nice. Then everyone (myself included) got lazier about them.
You know, I assume, that a model 2 genesis will work on a model 1 CD, right? It is fugly, so I understand if you don't want to do that, but it does work.

I had to dig the SMS games out, all titles I need. HotD2 was a new find in his import Dreamcast box. Stunt Race FX and Super Mario All-Stars were in the SNES box on the tables, which had a bunch of new titles. I found Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World in the back sitting atop a box, as if he just found it back there recently. As is the standard these days, 95% of the GBA cartridges are bootlegs but I know what to check for - my copy of Breath of Fire is legit. He has stacks of empty display cases he bought up cheap (or saved from the trash) and I saw Metal Slug 4 & 5 right at the top. It was in a GameCube case. I needed an insert as my copy from the recent Hollywood Video liquidation is missing it, and I can always use GameCube cases due to that same sale. As I was leaving he basically told me that I could have any empty cases back there I want, I'll go through them next time.
The NES on GBA multicarts are all new stuff that he must have just put out recently. I left a couple behind because my tab was getting a bit higher than I usually like to spend, but I'm going to start checking the game lists again each time I'm out there. As for the game lists on these cartridges, here they are...

None of the above cartridges are for sale (unless I get some crazy offer) but they've overgrown a few of my old GBA multicarts. Some of THOSE will be up for sale soon, since they all contain games that are duplicated in these new cartridges.
I ended up paying $65.00 for everything above. Shorty gave me a bunch of stuff free but I can't remember what was what. I usually just pick out stuff I want, then he gives me a price and I pay it - been that way for years, which is why I'm given the deals I am.

This was a lot off of Ebay, I thought I'd share. They cost me a grand total of $12 (shipping included). I think it's a nice lot for that price; Rambo, Star Voyager, and Cybernoid are all mint and complete. Rush N' Attack is flat-topped and it's a new addition to my library. The other two, Tetris and the caught-in-the-glare game, Double Dribble, are dupes (But in really nice shape!).
The only bad thing about this lot is that the three complete and minty games are made by Acclaim :)
http://ryaan1234.googlepages.com/finds013109-2.jpg
These two came from Goodwill and I couldn't pass them up for $2.99 each. Both games have cracked jewel cases, but I can fix that. Bust-A-Move 4 is in nice shape and I'm looking forward to playing it some time. "The Dame Was Loaded" looked cool, so I bought it. Has anyone played this game? Is it any good?
Also Bust-A-Move 4 is listed in the DP guide and it says it was published by Acclaim. My copy clearly says "Natsume" and Acclaim is nowhere to be found. Is this a mistake in the guide? FYI the guide says Bust-A-Move 99 was published by Natsume. Is there something that I'm missing?

Tons of games here, including some great shooters. And don't forget - Pandamar on the go!

Good to hear! I do, too, but I'm not always sure about everyone else. This is about the only thread that I never miss a post in, particularly when they are long.
I too enjoy reading (and seeing) your posts. Yours and Davids are usually the best in here.
I'm surprised those are going for so high. When I was back in the US for Christmas I went to Fry's -- they had many new copies (at least 5-10 on the shelf) and they were $29, IIRC. I would have snagged a couple had I known! I figured it was another Atlus reprint.
Wow, when did this get so high? It was stalled at $30 new for a long time. Now they're going for $90?!

Maybe don't quote the whole super-long post for this comment (sorry, I'm anal)?

Could you please check the case? See this:

Maybe you have a variant release. Anyway...

The Dame Was Loaded is an adventure game. I love those.

I also like to read the story behind the finds as others here seem to. I always figure that if somebody doesn't want to read my post if it's long and winded then they can simply look at the picture(s) and prices and skip the bulk of the text.
I'd rather have the whole story then no details to a good find :)
