The ad in question.
Story Time
All of the above were on sale at Best Buy this week, starting today. Although I work in Best Buy as a vendor I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any of these deals so I went early. Both Smallville S7 and Birds of Prey were still there when I arrived, but Ninja Gaiden 2 was not. The store had only been opened for a mere 2 hours when I arrived and yet it had already been sold out. I was thinking to myself "what other gamers got up early to get this"? The thing is, I don't think they had many to begin with. So I asked a dude to check his computer to see if they had any on them and he said "theres zero on hand, we just have a lot of dot.com orders to fill out." Translation: they had some in the back but where using those for online orders.
I was pretty upset on the way home and comtemplated getting it online. But then it would be another $4 or so for shipping and that would pretty much defeat the point of the sale. So then I had this bright idea to do a price match as I passed Sears. I had to go back to Best Buy to pick up their ad and then headed to Sears. I asked the dude in the electronics section if they price matched and he told me I had to ask one of the other guys(I think he was new). So I asked one of the other two guys(they were standing next to each other) and he turned to the other guy and said "do we price match on games?" and the other dude said "yes". So that was it. I was going to get it at Sears for the same price....until he rung it up. A message popped up on the screen that he showed me. He said "although we can do the price match for you we have to add $3 for doing the price match for you." I raised the people's eyebrow and was like "wtf". I told him I would try somewhere else and headed off.
Next stop was Circuit City. If you haven't been to CC in awhile, they now have helper monkeys running around the store following customers asking them if they need help with anything. The first one that approached me was asked a simple question: do you price match? He said "it depends on the store." I thought to myself "oh boy, here we go again." He asked what store and I said Best Buy. Then he asked what I wanted to price match and I told him a game. We went to the game section, I showed him the ad and he said "I think we can do it but I'm going to go check real quick just to mak sure." So I waited and waited and he finally came back. He said "we can do it" so I told him I was ready and he rang me up. Then his manager comes around the corner. But he was actually there to help because he had to use his password to change the price.
The moral of the story is, if you ever want to get a really good deal on a video game(or something similar) but you still want to sleep in on Sunday(the day the sale starts), go to another store that does price matching. That way you can get your rest and still get your product. But I would recommend calling around first to not only find out which stores price match, but also what their policies are. The last thing you want to happen is a similar situation of what happened to me at Sears.

After all, when you think "Videogaming Expertise" what name carries more weight than Sears?

Oh, earlier today I won this ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/lot-of-nine-nitendo-games-as-is_W0QQitemZ250355004123QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Defa ultDomain_0?hash=item250355004123&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
The idiot can't spell nintendo, so only one other person bid. I'm new to NES collecting so SMB3 is the only double, and I can basically make my money back from that.

I've done price matching at Sears in the past and have never had that happen before. I would say that policy is fairly recent(the last 2 years or so). I'll ask Megakirby.

Story Time
That reminds me of what happened when EBGames was doing a trade in promotion for Gran Turismo 4 a few years ago. At the first store I went to, the only employee there at the time didn't know about the deal until I showed him a flyer that was on the counter. Then he had to call another store, but then told me that he couldn't do the trade-in because he didn't know if my games were eligible. At the second store I tried, nobody was aware of the deal either, but they told me that they didn't have a copy anyways. I decided to try my luck at one more EB... and to my amazement, there was no problem... the employee knew about the deal and accepted my games.
Oh, and I'm sorry to say that I didn't get anything today :p - though I do have an update on this:
Dreamcast:
Sonic Adventure (disc only) - free
The disc was pretty scratched up and I wouldn't have been surprised if it didn't play. And the first time I put it in my DC, it didn't. I wiped off the disc and I put it back in the DC, and it worked. This copy will do until I find a complete one in better shape.

Today's finds:
System Shock (DOS, CD only) - $1
Pink Floyd - The Wall (2 CDs, mint)
The Wall 2000 (some weird tribute, 2cds, mint)
Talking Heads (some album I don't remember)
$7 - That's WAY more than I wanted to pay. The guy told me "Oh, CDs are $1 each." So I grabbed these, I said $4 and the minute he saw The Wall he hiked the price of that to $5. Asshole.
Eh. He also had Dark Side of The Moon but it was very damaged, so I left it behind. :(
Nothing else to report. :P

Aw, dammit. I went to Sears last night after getting denied a price match on Ninja Gaiden 2 at Circuit City, and I should have tried it there. Well, there's always Thursday. The douche at Circuit City spent almost twenty minutes holding up the line calling every Best Buy within 30 miles just so he could have the pleasure of denying me a price match. On top of that, there were about ten copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 sitting dusty on the endcap at the Circuit City store. Oh, well, I'll go back to Sears and those NG2's will be $10 whatever day CC goes bankrupt.
At any rate, I did find some nice deals yesterday...well, nice for a Monday night.
KB Toys
Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2, new) - $7.99
Sears
Megaman Battle Network 5: Battle Network (GBA, new) - 99 cents
Pinball Hall of Fame (PS2, new) - $2.97 (up for trade)
Rave Master Special Attack Force (GBA, new) - $4.97
Sega Genesis Collection (PS2, new but much of the cello was torn) - $4.97 (up for trade)
Shaman King Legacy the Spirits (GBA, new) - $4.97
I rarely find decent GBA games new (i.e. games that aren't crappy kid's titles), so that was a good pickup as far as I'm concerned.

Only sometimes. Normally when stores go into bankruptcy a portion (if not all of the stores) go into liquidation and everything gets sold off, in an attempt to get the company enough time while in Chap 11 to restructure debt and stay alive. KB is in the all stores are shutting down FOR-EV-ER mode.

Just make sure you call ahead first to find out their policy. If your Sears is like my Sears, you should be prepared to pay a "surcharge" or whatever they want to call it to do the actual price match.

Went home to visit the folks for a few days and found they had opened a new game store in town within the last two years. It's been a while since I've been home, but I didn't really expect much.
Found these:
Jack Bros: Complete
Waterworld: Complete
3D Tetris: Complete
Lords of Thunder: Complete
Knuckles: Chaotix - Complete
As well as a few other loose games. The cool part about this is I finally finished a complete game library with my Virtual Boy and I am only one complete game away from my 32x set.

The Wall 2000 (some weird tribute, 2cds, mint)
Damn, my condolences... that was a suck-ass album. I ended up falling for it myself, and it was total trash. I wish I had only paid $1 for it.
Anyway, all I found today were two Atari Flashback 2 joysticks, $1.99 for both, at Goodwill. Then I found a Selchow & Richter electronic toy based on their game Scrabble called Lexor. Cool looking device that simulates playing Scrabble without a board. It also keeps score in a real Scrabble game, which is pretty useful, considering I have the math skills of a brain damaged monkey. $1.99 for Lexor.

Well, you're about to be shocked - I liked it. It's not perfect by any means, but it's just a different take on The Wall. :p
Today's finds:
Mario Teaches Typing 2 (Two sets) - $4
Starcraft Brood War - $2
The Animaniacs Go Hollywood (Music CD) - $2
Um Jammer Lammy (artwork and manual only) - Free. Someone stole the disc &)#@#E@
NES games:

Stopped by Goodwill on a whim today on the way home from work:
Jackal (NES, Boxed) - $0.99
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (gray, loose) - $0.99
Didn't know anything about Jackal before, but it looks like it could be pretty good. I already have a complete, gold Zelda 64, but this one might make trade fodder or a few extra bucks on eBay.

A small NES find from a local thrift store yesterday. Everything below was $4 total.
NES toaster with zapper and all hookups minus the power supply.
SMB3
Jeopardy Junior Edition
Track and Field II
Goal
Super Team games
all had instructions included as well as instructions for the toaster and zapper.
Quick question: I have a top loader and its power supply. Can I use the same PSU for the toaster or do I need to hunt for its own PSU?

I had some pretty decent Goodwill finds today:
Genesis
Game Genie (loose) - $2.25
Jurassic Park (complete) - $2.25
Monopoly (complete) - $2.25
Super Monaco GP (complete) - $2.25
Super Street Fighter II (game and case, no manual) - $2.25
X-Men (game and case, no manual) - $2.25
Wiz & Liz (complete) - $2.25
I've kind of been on a Genesis kick lately since I got my Model 3, so this was well worth it and I had that X-Men game when I was a kid and traded it away so it's nice to have it back!

Today I got around to trying to find some of the $9.99 360 games from Best Buy. I went to one store to no avail, got them to check other area stores, nothing. So I took an ad and went next door to Circuit City, and wouldn't you know it, they had all the titles I was looking for!
Price match plus was my friend today
Ninja Gaiden 2 - $7.99
Turok - $7.99
Condemned 2 - $6.99
All in all, not a bad day for me.

I've found a few things lately, including:
Power Serve 3D Tennis (Playstation) - 50 cents
This one is in the original longbox, but not the cardboard one, the large plastic jewel case like the Sega Saturn cases. The game is complete, missing only the black plastic jewel case insert, which I can take from an broken Sega CD case. I don't know anything about this game, but it rates a R7 in the rarity guide, so it was worth the two quarters!

I picked up a sealed copy of GH Aerosmith (PS3, game only, no guitar) at Goodwill for 8.99. Thought it was a steal, turns out it's probably not since Gamestop only offered 7 cash 9 credit for it, and my local shop offered 8/12. But I ended up selling it to an acquaintance for 20 bucks, so it worked out in the end.
Sorta related: I saw that a Target near me has a pile of the PS2 version of this (GH A) on clearance for 8 or 9.99. They had a copy of Malice for 2.48 that I did grab... I'll buy almost any sealed game for 2.50.
I also picked up PS1 Warcraft II today for 5 bucks. Goodwill here puts 4-5 on anything that is a disc, so you have to get lucky to do better.

Wow, Kuros, where do you live? That's a mighty, mighty haul!
It's not really swap meet season right now around here, so must of my hunting is done at the thrift stores: Goodwill, Value Village, Half Price Books, and the odd pawn shop. Had some pretty good luck yesterday, but most of it came at the last Goodwill I stopped at:
Some notes:
-Hexen is brand new, sealed. Not amazing, but still neat. The Half Price Books I got it at actually had two copies of that, and like 5 copies of Doom for Saturn. Somebody must've robbed the ID Software warehouse!
-Prince of Persia wasn't something I was going to get at first, cuz it was ten bucks, but the nice fellow at Value Village knocked it down to five for some inexplicable reason. I don't know if I've ever haggled at a thrift store. Hell, I didn't even really have to ask.
-I now own You Don't Know Jack Volumes 1-3, as well as TV and Movies editions. I've seen a lot of copies of this series lately!
-Power Mongers was my weekly "take a chance on an unknown Genesis game" pick. Sadly, turns out it's a spiritual successor to Populous. Do not want.
-I found Dodge Ball, MTPO, T & F 1, Pitfall, Earthworm Jim, and two of the Jack games at our last stop. Pretty awesome! I almost did a little dance right in the store when I saw Super Dodge Ball for that much (having a coupon for 30% off made it that much sweeter). They actually had some other stuff I passed on- Baseball Stars NES and Tecmo Bowl III for the Genesis were two others I decided against.
All in all, a good day, especially since I got Super Dodge Ball for the nice price. On top of that, my friend was telling me just the night before that he had conducted exhaustive research that found Pitfall for the Genny to be the best version. Just my luck to find it after that! Also, I'm hearing that EWJ for Gen is considered to be the best, too. So, woo-yeah!
