There was actually an old Rat Shack speaker that used to get the audio nuts all hot and bothered. Well, the ones that were interested in good sound more than the name written on it, anyway. It was a medium-small size speaker. I'll ask my father-in-law what the name of those were.

edit: I think even some of the old realistic ones are now considered decent (again, if you don't care about the name it says). Not sure what 'old' means though. Maybe I should say 'vintage'? Anyway, I'm just basing this off half-remembered conversations. Ahem, well actually there are a few old realistic speakers that are good.... The "Minimus" ones are good but they are usually just medium-to-bookshelf size. In fact, I'm using a small pair of Minimus .5 cube speakers on my computer. They've got decent fidelity.

I just realized that I'm using both brands that I mentioned to stay away from on my computer >_<, a cool pair of Panasonic SB-### knockoff cylinder speakers that were made to look like a more expensive brand and the Realistic ones. I've got some Ion and Harman Kardon speakers that I've been meaning to switch out though.

Maybe I should correct myself to mean that any older speaker should have at least decent fidelity.

Nice,I just pulled that same pinball machine out of a box I had in the hall..It's missing the battery cover.
Works but i'm not sure on the center red light up top..it looks dim when they blink..

I also had that baseball game..I picked it up years ago in the box ..I used to play the thing it worked rather well..I sold it later ojn ebay in the box for $20.00 buks or so..

I did the outside-of-my-range thrift stores today for a change of pace, and didn't find much. Nothing I really wanted as far as videogame stuff goes, but I found some electromechanical and electronic games at one thrift, a grand total of $7.50 or so.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp222/StevePW/electromechanical.jpg

I'll go into more detail in the Recent Toy Purchases thread, just to keep that section of the forums from collecting dust. :)

Man that machine ROCKS..I'd love to have one of them...

Very true. It looks full size because it's a pretty solid replica but yeah, it's about half size, here's a picture for reference...

The control panel height is perfect for sitting at it in a chair. It should turn out to be a really nice vertical MAME cabinet.

I got a Dreamcast (either white or gray) with two basic controllers, a Seaman VMU, Psychic Force 2012, and Evolution. Both games CIB. It cost me $20 worth of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and $15 in cash. I'm happy either way.

Doubtful, those Magic cards just keep getting less and less valuable with every new edition / change to the rules that gimps the cards.

Anyway, today's finds. I'm broke. But it's the good kind of broke.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2009-12-09.jpg

Adobe Premiere 6.0 Education Version, SEALED - $2
Adobe GoLive 6.0 Upgrade, used, registered - $5
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out + Super C (NES, loose) - $4 for both
Phantasmagoria (Windows CIB with strategy guide / making of book) - $5
The 7th Guest (Super rare Windows 95 native version, CIB) - $5
Parasite Eve CIB, Skullmonkeys CIB, Silent Hill disc only - $15

Other notes:

The booth where I got the PC games also had CIB copies of Diablo 1 + 2, Warcraft II, Full Spectrum Warrior, a couple of EA games, and some other stuff I can't remember. But they were $5 a pop.

I'm stoked at finding Skullmonkeys. I already own it, but the manual's all beat up. This one's in good shape so I'm switching it out and selling this again. :D Buuuuuuut. The booth owner said that he had tons of PS1 games earlier and I just passed by him in the morning! *cries* He sold several Street Fighter games... he also had Dino Crisis and Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi, but I seriously only had a dollar with me after picking those three PS1 games.

Dangit.

How old are they? Some of the really old ones (like, first ones made old) can fetch a LOT of money, specifically Black Lotus and the other 6 cards that go for hundreds of dollars. Black Lotus goes for over $1000 I believe.

I'd probably be interested in those if you aren't. Me and my buddies have played every friday for the past few years and I wouldn't mind making something new. What sets are they from?

Anyhow...nothing much exciting, just some atari carts I dont own:

Arcade Golf
Maze Craze
Vanguard

that is all, 1 buck each ;D

BTW Kitsune, awesome find on Skullmonkeys, quite a neat little game.

They're from multiple sets, with a mixture of commons, uncommons and rares - nothing particularly exciting that I remember, though I had one of my coworkers come by and comment that a couple cards were worth $15 each.

If you're interested, send a PM and I'll start putting the list together.

Yu-Gi-Oh cards, eh? I used to have s shitload of them in junior high. I never knew how to play, but I enjoyed making money by selling them to the kids who did. I got rid of them all at the end of my eighth grade year knowing I would have no use for them in high school.

In fact, I think I may still have some of the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh cards somewhere.

Stuff I found yesterday at Goodwill.
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds199.jpg

The X-Com Interceptor (4.99) box felt pretty heavy, but for some reason I didn't even open it up. Turns out it also had the X-Com Apocalypse in it as well as several graphics card pack-in discs. RE and RE2 were kinda pricey at 4.99 and 6.99, respectively, and RE2 is missing its manual :(. Probably should have left them, but anymore I get excited when I see good games and have a tough time leaving them behind.

I think those prices were great for the RE games, especially the first one, I'd love to have a jewel case version instead of the damn longbox =\. VERY nice finds on the X-com series. I have Apocalypse myself complete but would love to find Interceptor!

If I didn't have mint RE: Director's, I'd keep this one. PS is just one where I can't bring myself to collect variants. Which reminds me that I have a longbox RE I need to sell.

p.s. It is up on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170417961741&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT) for a high price (hehehe).

I posted this in the import section, too. I don't usually post in this thread, but finding a Turbo Express/PCE GT (with a TV Tuner!!!) in the wild was so awesome for me that I just had to post it here. This is probably my favourite find in a while, although finding boxed AES systems for $40 sometimes is a very close second!

There was a Game Gear with TV Tuner as well, but I've already got a couple (one black w/TV Tuner, one translucent smoke grey). :P

Dock sale again... as usual.

I got a stack of disc only games: Halo 2 collector's edition, Nicktoons Racing (PS1), FF VIII disc 1 (anyone need this?), and some other misc common games (mostly PS1) for $0.50 each. Also got about a dozen NES manuals for $0.25 for the whole stack and an empty DS game case for $0.25. Got some misc controllers: Quickshot II, Gravis PS1 pad knockoff, N64 atomic purple and gray for $0.50 each. Also, a Toshiba HDMI upscaling DVD player, an original Xbox with a completely broken off front CD drive door, and a half-yellowed SNES for $5 a piece. DVD player and Xbox are going to the flea market to be resold. I think I can get $10 each. Xbox refuses to work when plugged in. The light on front flashes green. I think I might open it up as it sounds like something's spinning inside. I have an Xbox that overheats that I might just take the drive out of that and do a replacement so I can get $20 for it.

Nice!
I found an Express with tuner a couple of weeks ago and have been on a high ever since (don't even mind that I've seen squat since.)

Does yours work? Mine had low audio and is kind of picky about when he decides to load a game or not. Time to try my hand at capacitor soldering.

A boxed AES for $40 is an awesome find. That'd make my year.

It looks like it's playing a game. Rtype I think?

Mine is pretty much in the same boat. I resoldered a capacitor and the video and game loading works flawlessly now. It also has very low or no audio, so I gotta figure what freaking capacitor to replace for that problem as well. I keep meaning to look into it...

If anyone has any resources I'd love a link so I can get it fixed.

Yeah well. I bought that two years ago! BWA HA HA HA ohgodwhyme.

*coughs* Today's finds were a sealed copy of Microsoft Works Suite 2006 (CD version), and Orgy's second album, Vapor Transmission. A few folks may remember them as the band that covered New Order's Blue Monday back in the late 90's. It's their fault that I got curious about New Order, and they weren't such a bad band if you ignored the stupid Blue Monday video. So I figured I'd give this a shot.

Went to a nearby hobby shop, which was suggested by someone at work. Their prices were a tad expensive, but I picked up a few things:

Genesis:
Champ Controller (loose) - $6
Happ Competition Pro Controller (loose) - $6
Electronic Arts 4-Player Adapter - $3
Justifier "Second Player" Version (CIB) - $19.99
...interesting note on this. It had a Super Nintendo gun in it as well (blue).
Isn't this somewhat hard to find? It came complete with all of the original stickers.

EDIT: I looked at a box for a "Second Player" version on eBay and it's a different box with a plastic gun holder and different stickers. I'm assuming this is for Sega Genesis, considering it has Sega Genesis/Sega CD instructions in it, but does the pink Justifier work for both SNES/Genesis?

Super Nintendo:
Blue Gun (loose) - came in Justifier box
Beeshu Angler Controller (loose) - $6
HoneyBee Compettion Pro Controller (loose) - $6

Master System:
Super Tennis (CIB w/poster and card sleeve) - $6

Game Gear
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Manual - $1

Atari 2600
Decathlon (loose) - $3
Frogs and Flies (loose) - $2

Yeah, I thought so. I'm certainly not complaing on finding a boxed "Second Player" Justifier. It's too bad that it doesn't have the cardboard insert to hold the gun and that the clip on the phone jack is snapped off (easy fix). I might just scavenge a boxed Blue Justifier for the cardboard as well.

To think that I was complaining about the $20 price tag for a boxed Pink Justifier that came with an SNES Blue Justifier...

A boxed AES for $40 is an awesome find. That'd make my year.It works, but also has the audio problem. It loads games fine, though. Just a quick capacitor fix and the audio will be good as new, except I don't have access to my soldering gun for a few months.

The cheap AES would've made my year if I didn't live in Japan. I'd hate to tell you what I find boxed NG-CD systems and PCE Duos for occasionally (NOT regularly). You'd shit yourself.

Hit up Half Price Books today. Nothing major, but...

Intec Cyber Pad 2 (Xbox) $4.95 - I've been looking for a reasonable XBox controller to replace my nearly-dead one. I picked this up, and I'm not sure about it yet. I'm not extremely happy with the pressure sensitivity on the buttons (it feels like I have to jam on them to get consistency), but it's alright for what it is.

Conflict Vietnam (Xbox) $2.00 - Clearance title for XBox, what can I say?

Three DBZ DVDs from the Cell Saga (two Imperfect, one Perfect) $1.00 each. I had picked out five of these, but they only had discs for three. Bummer, but the ones I did get are pristine.

...and finally, a book. "The History of Farting" by Dr Benjamin Bart. I flipped through this and knew I was taking it home. Very fun read, and only $2.98

Heart of Darkness is a pretty fun and unique platformer. As it says on the back, it's made by team members who worked on "Out of this World". Ever played that? Quite a classic and came out on pretty much everything back in the day...PC, SNES, Genesis, 3DO, ect ect. If you haven't ever played it, I'd try it out to give HoD a comparison play ;D!

I also spent most of the morning looking for a simple clip-on microphone. NO STORES HAD ANY. I had to go back to Mexico and visit a department store just to buy one of these.

All for 50 cents. Too bad there is no interest TotS, I'll still flip it though.

Don't expect to get much for it. I got my copy for only $12 and I spent a few months looking for it. Be sure to try it before you sell it as it is a very interesting and weird game. If you play it for a while you'll be able to tell why it's a R7 :P. It's definitely a must-have if you're going to try for a complete PS1 Artdink colleciton.

Grabbed some stuff the other day, CIB PC games:
Full Throttle [Limited Edition] $5
DIG $3
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis $3
Interstate '76 $3
Grim Fandango $3
Ultima VIII $3

Playstation model SCPH-1001 (no hook-ups) $5

Sega Activator w/AC adaptor, no box/instructions $5

Looking forward to using that horrible sensor controller and possibly setting it up at a gaming event to throw people off. Happy about the PC games, particularly Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. Been looking for a cheap early PS console with serial ports so I can later link up some games. If I can find a cheap Dreamcast link cable it'd be nice for a few tournament games I have.

Well, I almost didn't make it to the thrift store before it closed. I was on my way to a 7:00 PM meeting and was scrambling to look through the items at the store. I was actually discussing Grim Fandango with someone the day before so it was crazy to find it when I did! I haven't gone digging around in awhile, partially due to unemployment. So here's a picture from this morning:

I actually start a new job Monday so maybe I'll start digging again and grab more finds. :)

No, there were several editions of Full Throttle. The hardest to get is the Bandanna Edition as that was only available directly from LucasArts. I believe the limited edition has a bonus mini player's guide included.

The PC games are a very nice find by the way.

I'm not sure. This one has a silver oval sticker (you can see in the flash) with black lettering and a skull that says: "LIMITED EDITION with FREE Mini-Strategy Guide Inside!" I'm not familiar with variations in PC gaming print other than "Classic" floppy games being reprinted on CDs like with the Ultima game above and King's Quest titles. There are a lot like that, but sometimes there are jewel case only games that became budget sellers after over a year in big boxes at higher prices.

The old The Adventurer catalogs actually had several "editions" for the game, but I'm specifically wondering about actual packages, and whether or not all the big boxes had that sticker. I seem to recall a jewel-case only release, but I don't remember seeing a big box that wasn't limited.

For those who are interested, ordering from The Adventurer got you either a Corly Motors keychain, or a Full Throttle bandanna, depending on whether you got the DOS or Mac version. I'm not sure if these were packaging variants or if they just threw the bonus item in when they shipped it, or maybe even just sent the jewel case and bonus item. When I bought the Classics Archive (Maniac Mansion, Loom, Monkey Island, Indy3...) from them, it was just the floppies and manual shrinkwrapped against a piece of cardboard, no box at all!

The packages were different, I'll include a link to someone's collection. Check out the first PC box, it's a factory sealed copy with no sticker(no player's guide included).
http://collection.maruska.cz/detail.php?id=07&name=Full_Throttle

And here's the Bandana Edition(first game in this collection). I have no idea why my spell check keeps wanting to change it to "Bandanna".
http://lucasarts.vintagegaming.org/index.php?do=game&gameid=11

I think there was also an edition which came in a regular shape box, just like most of the other PC games out there at the time(it might have been a European version only though). The key chain was a bonus item, I'm pretty sure it didn't have a separate edition box. It's also possible that the Bandana was just given with some copies of the Limited Edition from LucasArts, they might not have bothered to put Bandana stickers on all of the boxes.

Pretty bleh day:

Genesis - X-Men 2 (complete) - 6
NES - Bionic Commando (boxed) - 10

I've been looking for Xmen 2 for a loooooooooong time! Finally got one so that brings me to about 80 more genesis games to finish the set. Bionic Commando's box is beat to death. Ever since playing rearmed I've wanted to try the original so I picked it up.

Went to GameStop yesterday and took advantage of the "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" sale. Picked up (all PS3 and CIB):

Valkyria Chronicles
Condmemned 2: Bloodshot
Rise of the Argonauts
The Incredible Hulk
Wall-E
Tomb Raider Underworld

For only having the PS3 for less than 4 months, I already have 52 games! Not bad. :)

Couple CL pickups I'm pretty happy about.

The GB games were $28 total, and are all CIB. Was a PITA to pick up because they wanted to meet at the MOA, and that place was insane today. Drive near that place and you wouldn't know there's a recession.

The Sega stuff was $35. Too bad he'd already sold a few games separately (Sonic CD, Gunstar Heroes, Dark Wizard, and Herzog Zwei). Ugh, woulda been nice to add Herzog to the collection. It does leave me baffled that someone picked up those, but left Golden Axe Warrior (CIB w/ sticker if anyone cares). I'm not complaining, though, since I've been hunting this game for some time. I won it on eBay a year or so ago for about 10 shipped, but the seller claimed it was lost or damaged, only to re-list the exact auction under a different user name. What's funny is that the guy selling all this had this last on his ad and just said it was for another system but you could have it if you want. The lot was worth it without, but honestly that's why I picked it up and drove quite a ways. This lot did come with power supplies, Gen 1? a/v cable (is this supposed to be mono, or do I actually have a SMS a/v?), a 3-button, 2 6-button performance pads, and a GeniStick, I just forgot to get them in the picture.

The Zune dock is for my father-in-law who has a Zune, and it was $30 from Goodwill. It was a Target item, hopefully it works fine, cause I don't have a zune to test with.

edit: Looks like Fire Shark is actually a bit scarce (R5), and more importantly, a good game! Obviously I don't know Genesis all that well.

Picked up some more Xbox 360 games from the Blockbuster going out of business:

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard - $14
Bully: Scholarship Edition - $10.50
World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions 2007 Edition - $4.90
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes - $4.90

Republic Heroes normally goes for $40 at Blockbuster, but I found a disc-only copy that was labeled as $7. The lady at the counter found the box for it with the instruction manual when searching for the disk. Woo hoo!

I think this puts me over 140 Xbox 360 games now. I only had 30 at the beginning of the year.

Made a few finds at the flea market today.
NES Advantage controller
SNES Super Scope Receiver
Saturn Controller
Weird NES Controller
Neo Geo Pocket color with Card Fighters Clash
3 Atari 5200 games Berzerk, Qix, Super Breakout
4 Coleco games Zaxxon, Mouse Trap, Donkey Kong, Mr Do
2 Atari 2600 games Dodger Cars and Dragonfire
3 NES games Batman. Blades of Steel, Dick Tracy

I needed the 2600 and NES games but dont have a 5200 or Coleco but I picked them up any way they were cheap. I never have seen a NGPC around and it was cheap as well.

Found a Daystar Turbo601 card at my University today. I was looking for PC100 SDRAM for the iMac G3 that I'm restoring, and happened to look inside some giant old "spectro-analyzer-thingimajig," and saw a computer card sitting there. I mistook the connector on it to be a NuBus connector, so I grabbed it; when I got home, I compared it to the open slots on my Mac IIci and found that it fit the PDS slot.

I'm pretty happy with this find, since now my Mac runs a lot faster--probably twice as fast as it did before, and now System 7.5 actually runs smoothly.

I found a couple of things at Value Village:

Radiata Stories for $6.99 (CIB)

Xenosaga Episode 1 for $6.99 (CIB) - I picked these up to add to my RPG collection. (Collection? More like my RPG backlog!)

Sonic the Hedgehog Issue# 13 for $1.99 - This came with two other comics, Sonic the Hedgehog #25 and some Digimon one. STH #13 features the first appearance of Knuckles in the series. I already have STH #25, so I'll probably trade it (and a bunch of other random comics) to my local comic shop for some credit towards my Sonic comic subscriptions.

Since I didn't go to the flea market yesterday (I overslept and it was raining a bit at 7, which is when I leave), I decided to go today. I found this at one of my usual haunts:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2009-12-13a.jpg

Total for that was $4. I don't own Chrono Cross, and the FF Tactics book has a torn spine (and all have misc. damage) but since they're for my own use, it's perfectly fine. The USB cable was a bonus. I'm going to test a USB recording thing and I need one of these minicables.

And since I've been meaning to go there for years, I finally decided to hit the "Mercado Sobreruedas" today. It's a Mexicali flea market that sets up at different streets and spots all week. They set up about two blocks away from my home (along Calle 18) on Wednesday, but on Sundays they're set up next to Calle 11, so I grabbed a cab there after I came back into the country. I ended up seeing some regulars from the Calexico flea markets setting up there, so I said hi and got a few... perks. ;)

I picked up that copy of Nights into Dreams on my first pass from a guy who works at several booths over the week. He sold it to me for $5 Pesos (about 35 cents!) and it's got a few scratches but it should work perfectly. I kept walking but only found a bunch of overpriced sellers (yeah, I'm not paying $25 for sunfaded scratched Gamecube games, dude). When I reached the end of the flea market, I found that short USB adaptor. It cost me $10 Pesos (80 cents).

As I walked back, I saw a booth with a box of NES games. there wasn't anything very interesting, mostly commons, but he did have this CIB copy of The Terminator for $50 Pesos (about $4.10). I've been meaning to pick this up for a while, so I figured, what the hell, and bought it. The disc has some dust and one of the hinges is broken, but the manual and back inlay are mint. And it had the foam thingy inside! A little while later I found Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo Bowl for the NES for 20 pesos each (about $1.60). The things look ALMOST NEW. I've NEVER found copies of these games in such mint condition.

I need a USB extension cord for a project of mine, and I found a long one, but the seller wanted 50 pesos (four bucks) so I passed. I walked back to the end of the flea market... and I figured I'd walk home. X_x So I walked about four or five miles today. Agh. AND I need to get another Model 1 Genesis power supply so I can use my Sega CD again. Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh.

Went to a booth, 4 Atari 2600 games for $1 a piece. I offered $3 for all 4. Accepted. Which one of these things is not like the other? Nova Blast. I thought it was an Atari game LOL.

Grand Prix and Shaq Fu (covered by "the glare of DOOM") were $0.50 a piece couldn't pass them up at that price. Seller also had some other common 2600 games, but none that I wanted.

Yay for Atari Vidtec games in nice shape!

5, yes FIVE TMNT Animation Art cells for $1 each. Probably going to resell these. Hope somebody wants them. 1 cell is of Splinter thinking, the other is right afterwards with him with a retarded look in his face, 2 more are of some kid, and the last one is what looks to be April with some guy wearing a red hat. None are of the turtles, sadly. I actually got one of these off of eBay a few months ago and got it framed, but it was more interesting as it had the Robocop knockoff and a few of the turtles.

Atari "neon" sign. I can't believe I paid $12 for this hunk of junk. Guy I bought it from assured me that it works, but when I got home I plugged it in and... NOTHING. Sigh. I hope it's easily fixable.

Last bit here. Got 4 Japanese PS1 games from a booth for $5 a piece. The games are Gundam Battle Master, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, Ghost in the Shell, and some Neo Super Robot Wars game. I can't help but feel like I overpaid for these. Did I?
Also got Penguin Land and Rampage both mint and complete both for $5 and when I went to the booth to get the PS1 games I saw this Bleemcast Tekken 3 game, which was $1.
