31. The King of Fighters XII (X360, 5/22)

A nice little update to the series, and while they made some nice upgrades to the visuals the core gameplay has remained the same. While the game itself is fun, there are a few issues I have with it. First off the lack of modes and no real story mode are a bit annoying, especially when you consider that this game was released after Street Fighter IV, secondly the fact that every characters movelist was reduced significantly was a bit of a let down, especially in the case of characters like Mature who has four total moves on her list, and finally the online was a huge disappointment, the lag on button inputs pretty much breaks the game and makes it nearly impossible to do much of anything. While I'm sure with time you could get used to the delay, you should have to, since again, the game was released after Street Fighter IV but can't hold a candle to that game's number of modes or online play. Overall I'm enjoying this game and I plan to continue playing it for a while, it's just a shame to see them drop the ball with online play, especially since there isn't much to do beyond hotseat versus and replaying arcade mode when you're offline.

2. Sonic CD, probably one of the biggest anti climatic boss fights I've ever beaten. Alot of people argue that Sonic CD is the best sonic game, I say to them, are you high? the boss fight music blows, when you get an extra life sonic says yes, they added music to the boots and new music to the invinciblity which blows. Ah well im just nit picking but. I still think sonic 2 is better

Heavy Rain was fantastic, Final Fantasy XIII was atrocious and God of War reminded me just how frustrating it was. Playing through 2 now so I can play 3. 2 I have it set to Easy. I want to enjoy the game, not have a stroke. :P

9. call of duty classic (recruit, 360)- 5/22 - i played the demo back in the day on pc, but never played the whole game until now. it's amazing how far game mechanics have come in only 7 years. still, this is an enjoyable entry to the series, even though the difficulty curve is all over the place.
10. battlefield: bad company (hard, 360) - 5/28 - i thought this was a fun but flawed story-based entry to the series. odd control choices combined with poorly planned achievements bring down the fun characterization and gunplay.
11. battlefield: bad company 2 (hard, 360) - 5/31 - this one was a disappointment. gunplay and control were better, but the tonal and character shifts the devs made to make this more like call of duty kinda ruined what was cool about bad company. this is supposed to be a story about the army's rejects, now they're suddently badass special forces guys. so the story was throwaway, plot threads are left hanging from the first one, and the characters aren't as interesting this time.

These two were fun to go back and play again, though I can say that I much prefer the first game to the second. While the games both featuer Ad-hoc multiplayer, the fact that I have only one friend with a PSP means these probably won't see a lot of play in the future. Sadly, I feel the lack of an actual online multiplayer in this game was a real missed oportunity, though getting both Power Stones for $7 made the game worth the price of admission.

A good bit of the game was really fun. As it went on though, it started to feel a bit forced, and not really what it could have been. I found myself missing required items to proceed in the game, and having to go back through a lot of the dungeons to find them. A lot of things aren't apparent unless you do some crazy exploration (talk to EVERY NPC between dungeons), or use a guide.

I've had a terrible cold all week, but FFII helped take my mind off of it. I played to the end on GBA when Dawn of Souls came out, but I was too underpowered for the last dungeon. The stats on PSP are nerfed a bit, so it's a lot easier. Finished the game, but haven't worked through Soul of Rebirth yet. Probably will in the next week, but I'm counting FFII as complete now.

New: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES) - Being my first actual playthrough on this one, it was quite challenging. I didn't like it as much as the first one, it seemed it tossed out some fun in favour of secrets. I got a whopping 59%, and so I got the crappy ending. King K Rool was challenging, but only more for his tediousness getting to the last shot than his actual difficulty. I could get to the last shot easily enough, but it took SOOO long to get there. I'm tempted to try to discover the rest of the secrets, but I obviously have a long way to go. Fortunately, it will allow me to practice on the levels, and I might view this game as highly as others seem to.
