Kicking off 2010 by completing a game on day one!

1. Real Racing - iPhone

Now I know its only an iPhone game, but its the most console like of my iPhone games and had to do a huge number of races. That last one was very intense and nerve-racking. Great game.

I chose to go with a classic for the first game I beat this year, Lufia 2, and now I'm at the end of Chrono Trigger(SNES of course).

After that I plan to get in some Faria, and FF 7, before feb/mar comes, because I'll be playing Shiren(wii), RO(DS), and SMT:Strange Journy(DS).

I know you can't really "beat" Dr. Mario for the NES, but I have thoroughly abused him already this year. :smash: I finished level 22 on high earlier today on my FC Mobile II. I know it goes up to 24 or something, but 22 is still far enough to see the viruses get abducted by the UFO. I'd call that an ending, I guess.

1.) Torchlight 1/2 -- Level 32 Alchemist

It was a great little game, but the end boss almost made me not want to replay the game. He was unfair, impossibly hard, and just stupid. I wish games had good end fights still.

Thats an awesome game. I beat it several times for the extra achievements but I enjoyed every playthru.

Yesterday I finally beat Modern Warfare 2. A very good game but it definitely left a bunch of plot holes open to be filled in with the next sequel.

1. Lego Batman

I'm very much enjoying the Lego series and this is an excellent entry. It's great to see all the classic Batman characters kicking the tar out of each other in all their Lego goodness. I think this plays better than previous games in the Lego series (Star Wars) and is well worth the time for anyone who was a fan.

1. Mega Man 9 (XBLA, 1/4)
2. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Genesis, 1/4)

MM9
Much like Swamperon and Gameboy Color, I was right near the end of this one, so I just loaded it up and finally beat the last few levels. I did enjoy this game, I think I tricked myself into thinking it was much harder than it actually was so it took me a long time to finally beat it. I did enjoy it though and I am more than ready for Mega Man 10 in the coming months.

Mean Bean Machine
I like the Puyo games, but man can they get hard toward the end. Either way I'm done with this game...so, let's never speak of it again.

2. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Genesis, 1/4)
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game (XBLA, 1/4)

I decided to play through this game on a whim. It's still a lot of fun and it's probably one of the better titles I'll play through since I'll be trying to beat all my XBLA titles over the next few months. Especially since I haven't even played some of them.

Mean Bean Machine

I just tried playing this game against a friend a few days ago after not having played it for a few years, and I am no longer a master at it. I used to be the guy nobody would ever play against because they never stood a chance, and now I can't even set up simple combos. Mean Bean Machine doesn't let you counter enemy puyos, so once someone gets a nasty combo on you you're dead. I was used to playing Kirby's Avalanche, and a good part of my strategy relied on countering combos while I set up massive ones.

2. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Genesis, 1/4)
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game (XBLA, 1/4)
4. Golden Axe II (Genesis, 1/5)
5. Eternal Sonata (X360, 1/6)

Golden Axe II

Not much to say here, the Golden Axe games are fun, but I'm not the biggest fan. This one wasn't a huge improvement over the first game, so I'm hoping the third will be a bit better. Expect to see some more Genesis titles and XBLA titles as I try to work through my backlog on the 360.

Eternal Sonata

I enjoyed this one, it took me forever to finally get through it but I did enjoy it. It wasn't super long, it took me just over 20 hours to beat the main questline, but there are still some things for me to do in the game, so I'm not finished with it yet. Not my favorite RPG on the 360, but it's up there and worth playing if you're a fan of this style of game.

4. Golden Axe II (Genesis, 1/5)
5. Eternal Sonata (X360, 1/6)

This was an interesting game, and it kept me entertained, but it's a pretty mediocre Genesis title in the grand scheme of things and I doubt I would have ever played it had it not been included in the Ultimate Genesis Collection. So, I'm afraid this one doesn't get any sort of recommendation from me.

7. Battle Arena Toshinden (PSOne, 1/7)

I remember having a lot more fun with this game when I was younger, but sadly it just didn't age well. The characters move very slowly and the controls feel very sluggish because of this, and since the game has no story, there's little incentive to play through the game with more than one of the characters, unless you just feel that you have to fight the game's hidden boss, and weren't able to fight him on your first playthrough.

January 8th: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (PS2)

I really liked this game, it feels pretty close to being a third Ghostbusters movie. I'm not sure if the PS2 version is just a poor port or what though, because the game did feel very unpolished. The cut-scenes often had problems with audio syncing, and some characters didn't have lip-syncing; the game even crashed three or four times during the cut-scenes. All problems aside though, I really enjoyed this one.

Dragon Quest 3 on SNES and Brigandine Legend of Forsena

With Dragon Quest, I actually only had to finish off Zoma to finish the game. With Brigandine I played as Norgard again and almost finished off the game in the first year. I finished off the two last countries on month 12, 215, which is still the first year, but then the next month passed and the ending played during month 1, 216.

3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GG)

It took many years, the help of a friend and a walkthrough to get me through this hunk of crap. This is blasted as the hardest Sonic game ever created, largely due to twitchy controls, a difficult first boss and imprecise instructions on some of the games mechanics. Once you get past that...it's not really that bad. Interesting level designs and a decent score are present.

Relative to the previous installments, the FPS aspects felt watered down. However, the vehicle combat was improved. The overall story arc was OK, but it wasn't well plotted.

I just beat The Legend of Zelda The Oracle of Ages. Not bad but really annoying at times with too much inane trading going on. Consequently, I used a guide to complete the trading game required to get the Noble Sword but that's it. Otherwise, I found the game a real chore, especially since warps were sorely lacking when coming from the obvious design idea from Link's Awakening. I only found dungeon 7 to be specifically annoying frustrating but on the whole, it feels weak in comparison to Link's Awakening. This is surprising considering how many years after LA these Oracle games come out. I haven't tried Seasons, which I'll do shortly but I wonder if it's any better.

In the end, I don't blame Capcom for the problems this game has but rather Nintendo for outsourcing and subsequently being 'lazy'. Had Nintendo simply taken the reigns this game could've been a lot more enjoyable and a lot less like a mystery grind vague fest, so I assume.

I just beat Tekken 6. Not too hard but this was the first time I've ever played it since there were no arcade versions to prep on.

1. dead space (medium) - 1/11
2. 50 cent: blood on the sand (hard) - 1/17
3. strong bad's cool game for attractive people episode 5: 8-bit is enough - 1/17 - the humor dragged in spots, but there was some genuinely funny stuff in here. still suffers from the common flaws of adventure games as a whole, but i can't really fault a free game too much.

So far I've completed:

Tomba! (PS1) - Late last year, I got all the way to the point where you have to locate seven friends to open up the door to the final boss. I decided to finish off the game another day. Well, thanks to busyness of Christmas, "another day" turned into "next year"!

Drawn to Life (DS) - I wanted to finish the main story of this game before I played the sequel, so I cheated and used the invincibility code to plow through the game.

1. Lego Batman
2. E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial
3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GG)

4. Sonic Spinball (Genesis, Mega Collection)

I blame this game for introducing rock music into the Sonic series (not that it's a bad thing). Game play is all wonky strange. Has these strange difficulty spikes at random parts. Really doesn't strike me as a good idea to have goal based platformer mixed with a pinball game.
