Alley Cat is a vintage pc game by IBM, that was ported from the Atari 8-bit in 1984. It features a black cat getting electrocuted, eaten by dogs and zapped by eels whilst trying to jump up a fence, break into apartments, eat mice and finally impregnating the cat-lady of it's dreams. It is also a true classic, and everyone should play it.

This video, featuring gameplay footage of one "complete" playthrough until game over because of lack of lifes, is narrated, explaining a few simple facts about the game, it's programmer(s) and how to get it to run on your PC.

Also, it's extremely fun. Go forth and play it now!

Thanks for sharing - I *love* the Atari 8BITs (still have my original Atari 400 from my youth).

I've only got 15-20 carts personally (and one disk: one-on-one), although I'd so love to have more. You just don't see them in the wild that often and not many people collect them (compared to the 2600, NES, etc), so I don't get to see pictures like this nearly often enough for my liking.

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the new stuff too :)

(I've never actually seen an XEGS unit either - I have a 400, 800, 800 XL, and 130 XE, but never come across the XEGS)

Please check out my new channel BlastMode7. I'm going to be doing videos about hardware repairs, maintenance, and mods. But I'll also be doing pickup videos, have different discussions about gaming, and maybe some gameplay videos. Let me know what you think, I'm open to constructive criticism and I know I can improve. Here are my first two videos and I'll be uploading another one later today.

In honor of my 300th view on my youtube channel I figured to give away a copy of Super Mario Bros 2 . A friend RussLyman on youtube sent me a few cool things for free a while ago including a copy of SMB2 with a beat up box ( which was in his free bin) The fact that he sent a game too was up and beyond. I know 300 views is nothing on youtube for a channel but this is my way to pay it forward like he did when he sent me the game for free.

The rules are simple :

Watch the video and answer the question provided.
Provide all answers in the comment section below. ( Text or Video Response format )
Like the video.
and Subscribe to the channel.

A winner will be picked on 9/5/13.

With that said on with the contest. :

Episodes 1 -29 are on my channel : Atari 8 Bit Game Hunter

Episode #30

I figured out some of the bugs with my video editing software and got this video up. ( Better intros to come ).

In this episode : This week's moment is dedicated to a cart that did more than just play a game but opened up a whole library to the Super Nintendo System. Even though this isnt the first time a gaming company made a cart that made a system backwards compatible but this was the first time for Nintendo and this was a big thing for me growing up.

Hey gang. I felt like this needed it's own thread. We've poured a lot of work into this and I'd hate to see anyone miss out!

If you head on over to SegaMasterSystem.com, you'll notice we've released our latest short film, "Master System of Darkness". Just in time for Halloween!

We actually shot this one about a year ago when we were first creating content for the site. I'm very happy to finish this project (so are my actors!) and release it at a more seasonally appropriate time. :-)

Of course, I hope you enjoy it! Feedback always appreciated and we look forward to hearing what you have to say about the film.

The Master System is a great console a lot of North American retro gamers never got into thanks to the iron fisted dominance of the NES. I'm a big fan of the system, and love to see people showcase its games.

However, I feel like you should have mentioned that this game is an uncommon European exclusive so people know they can't simply go to their local retro game store and expect to find a copy. Also it is worth mentioning that the Master System is 99% region free, so PAL Master System games including Master of Darkness play just fine on a North American Master System.

Thanks. I felt that the majority of our audience would know this already, and, rather than be overly informative, I focused on just entertainment value. It's a reasonable fact you point out though. However, if I did make mention of this, I'd have to do the same in every video that featured a Euro game, and that could get a little repetitive.

Which is why I need to check out Sega's 8-bit side more in general.

Speaking of, wasn't this the same as the Game Gear's "Vampire: Master of Darkness" (which does have a U.S. release)?

A new series we're doing over at SegaMasterSystem.com. Kind of like the Master System equivalent to Screw Attack's "Video Game Vault", only with our own little spin. Of course this being the first in the series, we'd love to hear your feedback. Been really busy with new content as you've probably noticed. We really do appreciate any and all feedback as we continue to build this site. Any recommendations or ideas on how we can keep growing would be awesome. Thanks!

Holy crap man, nice!

I really enjoyed the video, it's basically what I want to see from this sort of thing. Covering relatively obscure games, getting into what they're about, and telling me if it's worth checking out. Good that you're not limiting yourself to NTSC releases, though that just comes with the territory of the SMS I guess.

Liked what you did at the end, was really helpful and haven't seen it done much.

You've earned yourself a new subscriber. :)

This one had me confused for a long time because I remembered the title, but there's an arcade game with the same title but totally different gameplay. I really like the protection lightgun game idea, but unfortunately this one isn't playable unless you have a SMS lightgun. The control pad style input just doesn't work well.

Just finished up a new video in which we take a look at classic Sega coin-ops and the Master System ports that followed. I've always wanted to do something on Alien Syndrome, a game that despite being ported to MANY consoles, always seemed more charming on the Master System. I'm still trying to fine tune the format for these vids... feedback would be great! Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks guys.

You guys are sorta doing what I wanted to do once I finished my USA set of games. I was going to sort of review them in alphabetical order.

Though Alien Syndrome is a weird one because out of all the ports of the game out there, the SMS one is the least like the arcade.

Does that wreck the pad for use with Genesis games, though?

After I sold my SMS and bought a PBC, I just wound up playing Alien Syndrome with an old Atari/C64/etc 3rd party joystick. Only one button, but it worked.

i think alot of people put a switch so you can go back and forth but controllers are pretty cheap and if you ever want it to go back to a genesis controller you cna just repair the wire.

Alex Kidd's 27th birthday was officially NOVEMBER 1st, marking the day his first game "Alex Kidd in Miracle World" was released. This makes him as old as I am! In honor of the Kidd's special day, I've created an original song called "The Alex Kidd Song (Paper, Rock, Scissors)". Sung from Alex's point of view, I deeply sympathize with Alex's plight. :)

Of course we're always fishing for feedback on stuff we create for the site, so please let us know what you think! Also, how significant are video game character birthdays? More so than a president? Yeah probably.

In this week's edition I focus on Atari's last ditch effort to revive the Atari 8 Bit Computer line with the Atari XEGS ( 1987 ). This console came complete with 2 pack in games ( Flight Simulator 2 and Bug Hunt) along with a grey CX40 controller and XG1 Light gun.

This system who's game line was pretty well dated by 1987 ( with games dating back to the initial launch in 1979), just couldn't hold its own versus the NES, Sega Master System and the new 16 bit Genesis and Super Nintendo that would come out a few years. By 1990 Atari cut new game releases for this system and by 1992 discontinued anything for the system and discounting and clearing out left over hardware items for the 8Bit computer line along with discontinuing anything for the Atari 2600 and 7800 line.

Hey retrogaming guys and gals. This is a very special video I'm sharing with you. What we have here is a compilation I put together for the holidays. It's fast cut home movie clips of me unwrapping every Sega video game I received as a gift on Christmas Morning. These were the golden years... 1991-1998. I came from a middle class family who struggled with money just like everyone else... but my Mom and Dad loved giving me gifts on Christmas and my DAD loved video games! We shared in the hobby of playing and collecting games all through the years growing up. I was a lucky kid. :-)

In particular, this video is very special because my Dad passed away in 2007. It's so wonderful that he captured all these magical memories on tape, especially since it's all VINTAGE SEGA. It brings me great joy to share these, some of the most cherished moments of my life, with all you retrogamers! Merry Christmas!

Hey awesome video. I really need to "digitize" my old Christmas stuff too. I behaved about as nonsensical as you did! When I got the Genesis in '91 I had the flu so my reaction was more "reserved!"

I love videos like this. I wish my parents had recorded me opening presents; I only have posed pictures in front of my horde of opened gifts.

Psycho Fox is awesome! I loved that game as a kid, but for years I couldn't remember the title. It was just, "the animal game where you throw the bird and punch a hole in the sky".

This video brought misty eyes of joy.

I must say though, I was never lucky enough to have received anywhere near that many games for any given Christmas. Oh, I know that this is a collage of many years, but that ultimate pile from your one X-mas was staggering!
