Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii)

More preparation for Kirby's 20th anniversary goodness! I love the nods to classic Kirby and the game is just downright addicting. My only complaint is the whole business of having to hunt down little gears in the most hard to find/uncover places. A small gripe I know...but still a wonderful game.

More Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360. I just started Chapter 5, with about 15 hours on the clock. It's starting to get a wee bit repetitive. I'm doing a lot better with the battle system now, but most battles feel like going through the exact same motions over and over. It doesn't help that I've been pretty limited in where I can go. The dungeons for chapters 3 and 4 even reused the same overall area. Story isn't really going anywhere either. Mostly just a bunch of insignificant, unrelated tasks with cutscenes of corny, groan-worthy weeaboo humor. Well, besides the entirely predictable scenes of the dude who is so going to be the main villain, or one of the main villains at least. Here's to hoping they'll switch things up on me soon. I'm still enjoying myself, but if the game doesn't pull something to really impress me, it seems like this will be a fairly middle-of-the-road tri-Ace title. As silly as it sounds, I think the most fun I'm having in the game so far is playing around with Energy Hexes as I open up the map. It's really satisfying to find hidden items all over the place.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii)

I finished the second level and pushed through the third level trying to get more parts to the spaceship. I got stuck on the second stage of level three trying to find an elusive energy sphere. I will have to search for where it is located. I have the first, third, and fourth spheres. Where oh where is the second?

Wow, the last couple chapters in Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360 sure added a lot to my clock. I'm just about to start Chapter 7 (just have one last special challenge to do), and I now have over 30 hours on the clock. Thank goodness Chapter 6 had pretty normal story scenes. Chapter 5 was probably the worst yet as far as the otaku humor goes; I was literally going "Ugh..." during the cutscenes.

Today:

Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii)

I decided it was time to try to find remaining energy spheres in stage 2 in level 3 (Onion Ocean) and complete level 3. Some of the locations are obscure or you need a certain powerup or go a certain direction to the spheres. I managed to find them and make it through to the boss of level 3....a giant puffer fish! The game is awesome single player and I am sure even more awesome with multiplayer.

Just started Chapter 9 in Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360, with over 40 hours on the clock. Well, in terms of the number of chapters (I don't know if they're all quite balanced length-wise), I'm halfway through the game. o_O Why must modern RPGs be so slow-paced and long? Give me something like Chrono Trigger, where you can do everything in about 20 hours, and where every second feels worthwhile and satisfying. If I have another 40 hours ahead of me just to beat Resonance of Fate (that is, not even counting whatever post-game bonus dungeons it may have), I wonder if I'm still going to be enjoying it by then or if I'll be really sick of it. As it is, once I overcame the brutal learning curve and got the hang of things, the game's been fairly repetitive. The game tries to present itself as pretty strategic, and the diehard fans of it will claim as much, but, really, the best strategy to beat a battle is almost always the same general sequence of actions. Most of it is just a matter of going through the motions, and when you have the pattern down, the game doesn't offer a ton of challenge (although maybe if you skip everything but the story dungeons, it'd be a different situation). The special challenges in each chapter can be pretty tough sometimes, though. Beating the three Mad Goliaths in Chapter 8 took me a bunch of attempts (but in situations like that, sometimes it's more a matter of waiting for a lucky break rather than adjusting your strategy).

Today:

Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection (Wii)
Sonic Gems Collection (GC)
Rampage Total Destruction (GC)
Super Mario Sunshine (GC)
Intellivision Lives! (GC)

Today was mostly an exercise in establishing save games for a bunch of my Gamecube games. My memory card stopped working for some unknown reason a while back and the Wii would only format the Gamecube memory card. I bought a new memory card but had not done anything to put new saves. Too many games with lost progress to want to go through again! I did enjoy a quick game of "Strikes and Spares" on the Pinball Hall of Fame disc. I love pinball games and this is the closest I will get to owning the real deal.

I played Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GG) on Sonic Gems Collection. I did something I have never been able to do even when I owned the game on the Game Gear: beat the first boss! I could not believe it when I beat that crab looking thing at the end of "Underground Zone." I even made it to the boss of Sky High Zone before losing my last life and moving on. Rampage Total Destruction is an interesting concept, but the whole grabbing on to the buildings has been made complicated and not as fluid in 3D. I mostly keep it because it has Rampage and Rampage World Tour on it! I made it through Super Mario Sunshine just far enough to get the first Shine Sprite and moved on. Intellivision Lives! is a fun little way to play Intellivsion without the benefit of the console itself. It would have been nice if they packaged a controller like the original that hooked to the Gamecube. I guess that would have been too costly, but I would have paid extra for it! It is a pain having to pull up the virtual controller to select the option on the overlay you want.

Half-Life on the PS2

How are the controls for that version? I've tried to play the Dreamcast version via a review copy demo but it's almost unplayable with the controller setup as it is. And even worst, you can't customize your controls. I have the PS2 version but it's still factory sealed and I just wondered if it played better than the Dreamcast version.

As for me, I continued with Heavy Rain on PS3 after a several day hiatus. It's not exactly like playing a game and there are long stretches of boredom. Hopefully the story picks up soon. I'm also still playing Rumble Roses on 360. Apparently there is somewhat of a main storyline where I can win championship belts, atleast according to achievement info.

I just cleared the story mission in Chapter 11 in Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360. Now to do all of the guild missions, since the game forces you to clear the story mission before anything else. Both 10 and 11 had really brief story missions, although I spent a good chunk of time clearing the optional missions in Chapter 10 since most of them required either several battles or forced me to backtrack through old dungeons I had already cleared because somehow a new item magically appears in them that someone wants. :/ Kinda tedious stuff in Chapter 10, to be honest. Story is picking up, though, at least in the sense that there's some drama going on. It's still not really moving forward whatsoever, it's just painfully slowly revealing the details of the mysterious past behind each of the three characters. I now have over 50 hours on the clock.

That's good to know. We picked up that game for cheap when HMV was getting rid of its videogame section, but didn't have a chance to play it yet -- too much of a backlog to go through first.

At long last, my 360 was hooked up again to the TV, now that our Internet connection is back (the fun of moving... and forgetting to change ISPs in advance!). I played a bit of Wonder Boy in Monster World off the Monster World Collection. Made it to the double rock boss (forgot its name) that gives the trident as a prize. I was in a Wonder Boy mood because of Game Center CX -- the latest fansub release is Bikkuriman on the PC Engine, a licensed port of Wonder Boy in Monster Land that uses characters from a sticker game series.

I also play my latest 3DS acquisition, Mahjong Cub3d, a Mahjong/Shanghai solitaire game that has both the classic game and a cubic variant, each with 20 layout options. It may be a simple time killer, but it's still very enjoyable. Some of the layout maps in the classic modes are quite challenging...

Glad my posting of my impressions is helpful. :) As much as I've been bellyaching about the game, though, I'd still halfheartedly recommend Resonance of Fate. It's kind of funny, prior to playing, I had gotten the impression that it was a "love it or hate it" kind of game, but unlike so many other players, I find myself decidedly in the middle. I'm still reasonably enjoying myself and I wouldn't say it's a bad game, but it's not particularly remarkable either. It really sums up my stance on most modern RPGs being overbloated. So much time spent for accomplishing so very little. I feel it could literally be half the length, if not shorter, and not suffer any negative consequences (I'm sure it would benefit, actually). It doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere, and as unusual as the battle system is, it gets pretty repetitive after awhile (no new characters, no new moves, not much variety to the enemies, and no new scenarios that require you to change your tactics to any significant degree). Add in bland music (and I had such high hopes that Kohei Tanaka would bring something new to tri-Ace's games) and graphics, while detailed, that are severely lacking in color and creativity, and it amounts to a fairly lukewarm experience.

Anyway, I just cleared the story mission of Chapter 12. Seems like it's going back to some filler with this wedding and Christmas stuff before I guess it gets serious in the final chapters.

Hi..

It’s a Clear PlayStation..One of my first Playstations,I’ve had this system for well over 10 years...I purchased the clear shell and did the swap,I still even have the original grey case ..I like that I can see the disc spin..
This system actually stopped reading discs then started working again...
I’m testing Gamesharks and Playstation Enhancers cheat devises to list on ebay but I don’t have many Playstation games(besides sealed) to match what’s on the lists of cheats in the Gamesharks lists of games in the unit to try..So I busted out this old viewpoint game that a friend of mine sent me in CA after hearing I sold the copies I had for Neo Geo AE$S and MVS..
I Suck at the game but having cheats helps

Today:

Donkey Kong Country Returns

This is an odd game in my library. I was so impressed by the original Donkey Kong Country (SNES) but always found it too hard. Ditto with Donkey Kong 64. I never bothered with the other Donkey Kong Country games for the SNES and the Gamecube game Donkey Kong Jungle Beat never held my interest. This one for some reason does. I don't think the visuals have anything to do with it and I sure am not a fan of trying to hunt down K, O, N, and G as well as the puzzle pieces. I keep dying and dying and dying (especially the mine cart stages) but I keep telling myself "just one more try" and I go at it again.

I am new to the Burnout series, and they are awesome. Right now I am not sure if I like Revenge more than 3. I guess I'm kinda, sorta in the home stretch now, considering there are only three chapters left, but that very well could be another 15+ hours of play time for me. Anyway, the Christmas mission in Chapter 13 was silly and stupid, but still fairly fun, if only for how hilarious the reindeer suits look. For all its trying to be funny, the game FINALLY got a laugh out of me. Now it looks like it's time for serious business, so hopefully the story will go somewhere before I'm on the freakin' final boss.

Still in Chapter 14 in Resonance of Fate, but all I have left in the chapter is to beat the story mission's boss. Well, and assuming the time cycle goes back to normal, I'll go through the world to read all the nighttime dialogue. I would've beaten the boss already, but I was getting tired of playing by the time I got up to the battle and I found the losses particularly annoying. I generally don't mind retrying, but this one is a pain because you start far from the leader and there are annoying soldier grunts that waste a bunch of time to take out. I tried ignoring them, but as easy as they are, they end up kicking my ass as I try to make my way to the leader.

Since I just came down with a cold (yes, in the middle of July :/ ), it's time to break out the Game Boy Advance SP so I can play something as I laze about. I'm already in the middle of a very long RPG, so I wanted something that wouldn't take long and has next to no text. I decided to go with Zelda no Densetsu (the first Zelda; I imported the Famicom Mini version before the NES Classics line had been announced for the US). I just beat level 6, but I inadvertently took the path straight to the boss, without getting the dungeon item and such. I have some memory of the game, but not a great one. It's been several years since I last played it, and that was actually the first time I played through the entire game myself. I did both quests back then, but this is still only my second time doing the normal quest.

Resonance of Fate for Xbox 360 is basically on hold for the moment. I generally don't feel up for playing home console games and staring at a big screen intently when I'm sick. It's just not a good idea for me when I'm dizzy and my head hurts to begin with. I can much better handle handheld games under these circumstances, plus they let me play in a comfortable position in bed or wherever. Anyway, I'm at the very beginning of Chapter 16, the final chapter, and it still doesn't remotely feel like I'm about to take on the final boss. I could see this maybe being the mid-point of a game, where you finally learn all the details of a character's background, but even if this was a mid-point, it's still lacking in drama. The world as a whole doesn't feel any more threatened now than it did in the very first chapter. Sure, the NPCs talk throughout the game about how the world is in a state of decay, but everyone is so lackadaisical about it. Everyone is still just following their whims and not particularly worried about anything. It's not that I care so much about story, but I do want a sense of purpose behind it all. Even if it's a cliche plot, make me feel like I'm saving the world or at least doing something of significance. Otherwise the game just feels like fetch quest busywork, which about sums up the feel of Resonance of Fate.

Super Paper Mario (Wii)

I'm a little behind on posting, but I have been pretty much playing Super Paper Mario non-stop in an effort to progress further. I have made it through chapter 4 and now have in my possession the fifth "Pure Heart." The game is very interesting and I only have trouble progressing when I have a "duh" moment and not think the strategy through.

Today:

Midway Arcade Treasures (GC)

I haven't played some of my favorites in a while, so I started running through some of the games on the disc. I played Gauntlet until about level 22 when I finally got bored. I switched to Root Beer Tapper and played for a few minutes until I died from not moving fast enough between the bars on stage 2. Bubbles is a game I don't remember from childhood but it is fun for a few minutes. Paperboy was next on the list and I fondly remember it fondly from playing it on my Commodore 64. Joust rounded out my little nostalgia trip. My girlfriend commented on how clear and crisp everything looked on the HDTV and I must say I agree!

I must be a masochist because now, having beaten the normal quest in Zelda no Densetsu on my Game Boy Advance SP, I'm playing the second quest again, even though I never cared for it much when I first played the second quest years ago. It's not so much because it's hard, although it does get frustrating in that regard, but rather because it's so stupidly illogical. As cryptic as the normal quest can be at times, there's almost always some subtle visual clue that a savvy player can pick up on in order to find a secret. In the second quest, that smart sense of design is thrown out the window and, for the sake of making it difficult, they opt for cheap, tedious trial and error. So it's either get outside help or waste a shitload of time, and even if you do stumble across something, there's no sense of accomplishment because you only found it through sheer brute force. In the second quest, it's like "Yeah, just play the flute on every freakin' screen until you find the couple random spots with important hidden items." Well, anyway, I'm up to the 4th dungeon in the second quest, and it's kicking my ass pretty good. If there's anything worse than a swarm of blue knights, it's a swarm of blue knights in a room with those IRRITATING red orbs that take away your ability to attack until you chase down a blue orb.

Flood (Atari st) and Final Fight 3 (Snes),quite enjoyed FF3 but it felt like a Streets Of Rage game not that there is anything wrong with that of course as they are amongst my fav games ever but it just did not feel like i was playing a Final Fight sequel.

With so many systems I go with whatever I'm in the mood for. Lately Prince of Persia Sands Of Time and Halo for Xbox. Ps3 the first Assassin's Creed, stuck on memory 5 the last two towns.

I'm almost done with level 8 in the second quest of Zelda no Densetsu on my Game Boy Advance SP. This one has been taking me a long time, not only because it's pretty convoluted but also because it takes so many damn bombs and the game has been hating me lately when it comes to bomb drops. I've been reduced to buying bombs in the shops. At least I've made the money-making game my bitch, haha. I've always feared and avoided it in the past, but since there's one on the screen to the left of the overworld starting point in the second quest, it's so easy to abuse the system with the quick save and quick reset. I can rack up 255 rupees with ease, so no more rupee grinding for me. It's extra good because the screen to the right of the starting point has a potion shop too, so it's very easy to get prepared for a dungeon. It's only when I get desperate for keys or bombs that I have to hunt down another shop.

Yesterday/Today:

Midway Arcade Treasures (GC)

I played Marble Madness yesterday and found out just how badly I suck at the game even on the easiest difficulty setting I can put it on. I quickly moved on to Smash TV and played that sucker until I was watching the end credits! Today, I played Root Beer Tapper (still have fond memories of it when I played it on the Commodore 64 and it had a Mountain Dew theme) until I got stuck on the space bar levels. I (briefly) played Spy Hunter and reminded myself how bad I suck at it. Toobin' was pointless and not very fun and Klax put me to sleep pretty quick. I still say I got my money's worth from the disc...

I'm really starting to get into Heavy Rain now because it's finally picked up action wise. I've also been digging into Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue, ironically enough for trophies. And of course I've been putting more time into Halo Reach and MW3 on my 360.

I beat the second quest of Zelda no Densetsu on my Game Boy Advance SP, and overall it was a lot more satisfying than the first time I tackled the second quest several years ago. It was a wise choice to look up a map so as to not deal with the illogical overworld bullcrap, leaving me to focus on and enjoy the unique dungeons of the second quest. It's kinda funny how the red ring in the second quest is actually easier to find than in the normal quest. Well, anyway, time to put the Game Boy away and get back to what I was playing before.

I have so many Nes games. Every once in a while I pick one out and play it in the morning when I have my coffee. Right now I'm playing Nes Frankenstien. Cool becusae I haven't played though it ever but, it's kinda crapy. Fells like a homebrew. Honestly. RASK1904.

I just started a second run through Alpha Protocol. Also playing Psychonauts again - the more I play it, the higher my opinion of it goes, and it's already a game I really liked when I first got it.

Today:

Super Paper Mario (Wii)

I finished chapter 5 and moved through chapter 6. Not too much longer until I finish the game! I got lost in a couple spots and relied on a walkthrough to get past them. Most of the game is pretty straightforward, but there exists some tricky spots.

So yesterday I was playing Virtual View Megumi and Virtual View: RCT. I beat both of those on PS2 and I'm still trying to finish up Heavy Rain on my PS3.

Today:

Super Paper Mario (Wii)

I made it through chapters 6 and most of 7 at some point in between my last post and now (and forgot to post!) and I'm now in the midst of chapter 8. The end is near!

I beat Heavy Rain yesterday but I'm still playing it for the extra endings. I also started playing Soul Calibur V on my 360.

I got back into Resonance of Fate on Xbox 360 after avoiding it while I was sick, but I didn't have much time so it was a very short session. I just read all the dialogue in the main town, accepted the missions, and completed the one with the dude in town who wanted some rare materials.

I kind of put my other games on hold as I pursue the extra endings and trophies in Heavy Rain. The game is more compelling than I thought.
