#39 - Half-Life: Source (PC)

It's Half-Life, but with snazzy modern Source engine effects (like super nice water, neato lighting, havok physic engine, etc). I used a mod to incorporate the models from the PS2 version to make it the prettiest version of Half-Life yet released (though I'm sure Black Mesa Source will own all if it's ever released). Still a fun game nearly a decade after release, though it obviously has drawbacks compared to modern games.

God, 1998 rocked.

Oh well, Half-Life 2 (PC) is next!

Once again, I am rebeating games that I have already conquered. Stuff I haven't played in a long time, though.

Beat these games over the past couple of days.

-Fatal Fury 2 for Super NES: Used Terry Bogard the entire game and this is the first time I have beaten it since 2000. I played it tonight on my DreamSNES emulator. Since I had not played it in so long, I kept the difficulty fairly low :)

-Street Fighter II: World Warrior for Super NES: Another game I played tonight on DreamSNES (DC). This is one I had not beaten since 2001, which happened to be the last time I played it. I used Ryu all game long, big surprise, and did not lose a single match. Kept the difficulty level down on this one, too. The version I played was actually a hack/patch which had a bunch of cheap glitches like lightning fast hurricane kicks, Guile Sonic Booms that required no charging, fireballs that could not even be blocked, etc. But otherwise, it was the same as the SNES version.

-Resident Evil: Director's Cut for Playstation 1: Beat it using Jill and received the worst possible ending in which only Jill is sitting in the chopper (D'oh!). It is the first time I had beaten it since 2000, though, when I was living on campus. I actually did not remember all of the things I needed to do to beat it, such as rescuing/saving my teammates and I was too proud to consult a walkthrough on GameFAQ's. I knew I was in trouble when Tyrant never came out for a rematch after the first time I smoked him in the lab. Next time, I want to get the best possible ending because the one I got SUCKED!

I just remembered, then checked to make sure I didnt already add it to this thread, but I beat Donkey Kong Country 3 for the Game Boy Advance earlier this week. I'm gonna have to check this thread to see how many game's I've beaten this year, because I was keeping track.

Beyond Oasis (Genesis)

Overall. I was impressed with this game. Beat it in just over 5 hours. Its a Zelda clone with a more complex fighting system. The puzzle solving primarily involves the use of four spirits (Water, Fire, Shade, and Giant Plant -- think Little Shop of Horrors). It looks and sounds fantastic, especially for a Genesis game.

For a few negatives, the enemies aren't especially varied; you'll get sick of the same guys by the end. Furthermore, the combat system is often too clumsy for it's own good, although it's pretty satisfying when you get the hang of it. I'd give it a solid 8/10.

On the recommendation of a few people around here I started Yakuza about three weeks back. I just finished it tonight after putting roughly 12 hours into it. I didn't explore extensively or do everything that I could have done, but god damn was that game good. The fighting is incredible, and the game actually had a cast of characters that one could really enjoy. The best part of the game however was the plot, so many twists that I never saw coming. Anyone that has a PS2 should be required to buy this game, it really renewed my faith in Sega after playing games such as Shinobi or the new Sonic games. The game easily deserves to have sold more copies in the US than it did. Now I just need to wait for the sequel to hit our shores.

#40 - Half Life 2 (PC)

Took me 9.3 hours this playthrough, though it could have quite easily lasted at least an hour or two longer. I really sped through some sections faster than I should have (I did zero outside exploration during Highway 17 on this run :( ).

Time to replay Episode 1 and be all ready for Episode 2 in 4 days. I can't fucking wait.

Steam Community is saying 3 hours on the nose, which sounds about right. Let's hope Episodes 2 and 3 keep the length about the same, because then they'd add up to pretty much the same length as Half Life 2.

Episode 2 in 4 days. I'm totally amped.

Holy crap I just went threw the beaten in 2007 thread to see how many games I've beaten and Crash Bandicoot 2 was the 30th game I've beaten. It just seems like a lot of games for me to beat, since I usually dont end up finished 90% of the games I play.

Have you given the optional boss Culex (think that's his name) in Monstro town a shot? I found him to be quite a bit more dificult then Smithy. And he has classic FF music playing throughout the battle.

Mischief Makers (N64)

Well, I found this game for $4 (after wanting to play it since it came out), and I was reasonably pleased with this Treasure effort. Overall, it was a blast to play, even if my hands are hurting from using that N64 controller. It is a standard platformer with the main weapon being grabbing enemies and objects and either shaking them or hurling them acrossed the screen. Tons of bosses, tons of variety.

Number 31:
Yesterday I beat Crash Bandicoot 2 with all the crstals, all the colored gems, and most of the grey gems. Then today I played for about an hour to find the final five grey gems I needed. So now my save is 100%, I had beaten the game a number of times in the past, but I only ever went threw and beat 100% of the game one time, when I had first gotten the game. So this is the second time I've done it.
Then I decided to play the next game in the series; Crash Bandicoot 3, I've beaten this game probably three or four dozen times already, but I dont think I ever played threw and got a 100% on my save file. So I'm working on that, so first I just played threw the levels then work my way threw each level geting all the hidden items and what not. So the 31st game I beat in 2007 is; Crash Bandicoot 3, it only took four or five hours, and I only died maybe ten times. However, like I said earlier I have beaten the game three or four dozen times by now, which is probably why I can run threw it so quickly.

Etrian Odyssey

Man was that game brutal in difficulty! Especially in the beginning - run out and kill a few monsters and wimper back to town until you picked up a few levels or a few pieces of equipment. Even at the end it was still kicking my ass at a few spots- especially with monsters that could put you to sleep and then do 30-50% damage with one hit (especially since the sleep spell had the opportunity to put your ENTIRE party to sleep).

Finished WONDER BOY III: THE DRAGON'S TRAP the other day. It was an amazing game, definitely the limit of what an 8-bit machine could do. The music was great, the graphics even better, and the gameplay was just phenomenal. To have to plot all those levels knowing that they can be played differently with each of the 6 animals you morph into is an engineering marvel. The RPG elements really gave a depth to the game...it was way more than bashing blocks or jumping on enemies like you'd find in the Mario games of the time. With this, the ALEX KIDDs, PSYCHO FOX, CASTLE OF ILLUSION and the prequels, the Sega Master System was a platforming monster!

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, I did beat it I think two or three days ago. All I did though was beat the 25 levels, and got about six silver gems, and the blue gem. So today I played the game from about six a.m. until an hour or two ago and got all the colored gems, silver gems, and time trials. It wasnt so bad, I had to use the strategy guide to find out how to get some of the gems, and for tips on the time trials. But it wasnt very hard to acheive the 100% mark.

Oct 15th- Finished # 22 Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

This game has been a torn in my side for a while mostly because my timing for defence, but I kept at it til I was able to get through it.

Oct 16th- # 23 & #24 Finished Metroid Zero Mission & Final Fantasy V Advance

He he I took my time with both of these games and I'm kinda glad I did, because I'm the kind of gamer that doesn't want his game to end too quickly. Metroid Zero Mission was a walk in the park in my opinon, having played through Super Metroid & Metroid Fusion I felt there could have been some more to explore. Final Fantasy V however, had to been the most hardcore of RPGs I've ever played through. With mastering all the classes and the constant hours of level grinding, I ended up finishing the game with all classes mastered and my entire party being around the late 60's.

I-Ninja for the Xbox. 100% completion. Overall, it's an average game. Still decently fun, but replaying a level 3 times gets tedious, especially when there is such little enemy variety. The bosses are fantastically designed, and there are some clever gameplay elements.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (PS2) - I'm still drooling over this game. I've played through the vast majority of the PS2 library, and have to say that this game ranks in my top five. Everything was so incredibly smooth, and the controls were absolutley nailed. The only thing that was average in the game was the combat. Throughout most of the fighting the best move is just to jump against the wall and lunge at the enemy, knocking down even the strongest enemy with only one hit. I haven't heard too many positive things about the second game in the series, but I'll play through it eventually to get to the third game (which sounds freaking great).

Fable (Xbox) - Finished in just over nine hours. Felt like there was so much more to do and the experience was very anticlimatic. Hell, half the missions didn't even feel like they progressed the story that much. The inventory system was too abundent as well, so many items that didn't serve any real purpose. The weapon system was a bit flawed as well, I found a opwerful weapon about 1/3 of the way into the game and was able to use it until the last hour. Despite all the little things that nagged me in this game, it really was a fantastic game that just didn't fully realize it's potential. I didn't follow the development of this game because I wasn't interested in the Xbox at the time, so all the hype passed me by, but even I can see that if the game took another year in development, it could've been one of the greatest games of all time.

Road Avenger (Sega CD) - Okay, so I finally broke down and upgraded from my Genesis 3 (that came with my Nomad): I bought a model 2 Genesis/CD/32x from bangtango earlier this week. The first game to beat with it is Road Avenger. The game is remarkably fun and can be defeated in about 45 minutes. You drive around in a nicely animated (hand drawn) game and do your best impression of Michael Knight driving KITT. The gameplay is similar to Dragon's Lair, but is not nearly as frustrating. A very fun game that i will certainly play through again.

I finally beat Rastan. I remember as a kid I always wanted to see the ending but that would have taken a huge amount of quarters!

Finally trudged through Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood (XBOX). I was expecting it to be a short play like Road to Hill 30, but if I'm not mistaken it feels a lot longer.

I've been playing some CD Interactive games lately. These are my first CD-i games I've ever finished. I like to complete games by figuring everything out myself otherwise I don't feel that I did it 100% on my own, and also there is more satisfaction.

* Link : The Faces of Evil
* Thunder in Paradise (3 different endings)
* Voyeur (1 different endings)
* Zelda : The Wand of Gamelon

Currently working on finishing Voyeur with a better ending. Later on when I get a controller I will work on finishing Hotel Mario and the Apprentice. I'd try to get further in Zelda's Adventure (passed 1st boss) but it's so horrendously bad I can't even stand playing it for very long.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

Wow that was really good! I love S-RPGs, and I love the ones where you have a lot of characters at once (Not like FFT). This is my favorite of the three I've played so far. It was a LOT easier than the previous ones, though. I played hardcore - no reseting if any characters died off, but even with that I was able to beat the game quite handily.

Beat two games recently.

1. Evil Zone on Playstation 1 ("One Player Mode" with Danzaiver)

-This is NOT as easy as it might sound. "One Player Mode" in Evil Zone is a completely different animal from the "Story Mode." In "One Player Mode", you have to beat every single character in the game (including yourself) a total of 5 times each in what seems to be a best of nine format. By the time it is all said and done, you've got to win 50 fights which can take around 90 minutes. Not only that but you have to use every single move available for the character you are playing as at least once. You do all of this and what do you get? Just end credits to start with, since you can only see character specific endings in "Story Mode." However, doing all of this in "One Player Mode" allows you to unlock all of the voices and outfits for the character you are using. Not too bad, except you have to do this for every single character in the game to reveal 100% of the unlockable stuff. Pretty time consuming, especially if you lose a few matches in the process (which slows things down). However, anyone who has played this game and enjoys it will agree that going through all of this effort is worth the trouble. The unlockable outfits and voices rock.

2. Virtua Fighter on Sega Saturn

-Beat it this afternoon on Expert Mode. There are 8 characters in the game and I gave myself a self-imposed limit of 7 continues. I started with Jacky and worked my way to the next character on the left each time I used a continue. I was down to the last continue and character (Akira) when I finally beat the last boss. Good thing, because I promised myself that I would turn off the system if I lost with the 8th and final selectable character.

Finished Call of Duty 4 (360) last night. I didn't even realize it was the end until the achievement popped up. I thought it was just the end of the 2nd chapter (of 3). Very short game.
