Yesterday found this with a PS One for $1.99 each.

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/1919/dscf0082g.jpg (http://img15.imageshack.us/i/dscf0082g.jpg/)

Today found all this:
FF VIII PC $5, dark forces $1, NES games $2 (for both)

Then I hit a booth that had some NES, SNES, N64, XBox, and PS2, games all at vary high prices (like $10 and up for dirt common games) but his Sega CD and Saturn games were $4 a pop and all I had was a $20 so I got 6 of them and asked if he would do the 6 for $20 he did, then after leaving and thinking (I take my extra games with me to flea markets) I went back and asked if he would trade so I traded SMB 2, Tale spin, Mega Man 2, and 3 N64 racing games for the remaining 10. Everything looks nice only one case had a broke hinge and two had cracks all are CIB.

Very nice, is DoMGS2 any good, for what it is?

Also, nice on the FFVIII PC, understatement! I wish I had found that instead of FFVII PC for the same price a few months ago, been looking for it.

Bought Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? for DS at GameStop as a christmas gift for someone... I, being the idiot that I am, turned down the B2G1. As soon as I left, I knew I should have done it. Oh, well... I'm stupid.

Finally found my Earthbound! I have seen 2 in the wild before this, one that looked like it was eaten by a lawnmower ($60) and one a crazy person was selling ($95).
I got mine today for 39.99 plus TN tax. fuck. yeah. great clean condition and it plays/saves with ease.
Saw a loose Herzog Zwei for the genesis but the guy wanted 19.99 for it. I'm too cheap for all that nonsense.

Also Found:

All for $23:
NES Play Action Football
Adventures of Bayou Billy
Seicross
Top Gun
Legendary Wings
720
SuperSpike V'Ball
Cabal
Kid Icarus

Atari "neon" sign. I can't believe I paid $12 for this hunk of junk. Guy I bought it from assured me that it works, but when I got home I plugged it in and... NOTHING. Sigh. I hope it's easily fixable.

Oh yeah, forgot to reply to this...

Are you sure it's neon and not just a flourescent light?

If it's a flourescent, the ballast may be bad in it and may need replaced (or it may just need a good hit to the ballast box to get it working again). If it's important to you to get it working, it would probably be possible.

If it's a true neon sign... I don't know.

Sweet find eskobar! Ever since I completed Rhapsody on the DS, I've been curious how good the sequel is. Where did buy the games from anyway?

Got Disgaea 3 on the way from Amazon for $30 and getting Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) for $44, but I went to a pawn shop today and got Infamous for $15. That's pretty sweet find.

The Saturn Virtua stick was $3, the Genny six-button pad was $2, and the weird PS2 to Gamecube adaptor was $5. I'm not sure if all three items work, but I really needed to get a new Saturn pad because the one I have... the L and R buttons blow. Your Saturn designers SUCKED, Sega!

They had a second Virtua Stick too, but the buttons seemed a bit tight. I may go buy it tomorrow.

The Office 2000 Standard Upgrade CD was $1.50, and the other CDs were 50 cents each. But what are they?

The top most one contains twelve classic games, including Monkey Island 1, Duke Nukem, Alone in the Dark, etc. I already have it, but this one's good trade fodder;
The second CD has a full copy of Wolfenstein 3D. I already have it on Steam... but it's good to have another copy. :P
The third CD has a full copy of "M59 Rennaisance", which is apparently a dead MMORPG-type game. I didn't know. Oh and check it out, it has a spectacular swim suit screensaver! Which has girls that would look out of place even in Second Life!

Did kids really find those appealing back in 1998? Damn.

Meridian 59 isn't *quite* dead, there's still some servers around.

Back in 98, 3D was still considered "cool." We've come a long way...

And yet, 3D hentai games sell by the buttload.

Anyway I tried that Gamecube adapter thing and it doesn't work! Apparently it's supposed to be this thing (http://reviews.dcemu.co.uk/review-joybox-playstation-controller-adapter-80991.html), but the pad won't do anything in the Gamecube menus.

Nah, it's not a neon sign. That's why I put "neon" in quotation marks. It's just made to look like a neon sign. Don't worry about it being broken, I opened it up and the bulb inside had become disloged. I adjusted it back to the right position so now it works just fine :D. Thanks for the help anyway.

The US pads they originally packaged with the Saturn that were markedly different from the JPN ones did indeed suck horribly (though I know a few people who absolutely swear by them X_x). The L/R buttons on those controllers didn't work as well if you pressed down on them so much as if you pressed IN on them. They actually packaged some of the grey JPN controllers for sale in the US. I spied one in Toys R Us and picked it up without delay. I let other people suffer with the clunky US pads before eventually swapping them down the road for the "newer" style ones.

I have the top CD. I'm sure all three were pack-in discs that came with issues of PC Gamer magazine. I know the top one was because it was the reason I bought the magazine off the stands. ROFL

I'm in the midst of a long dry spell (that's what she said) for games around here. I also tried to go to GS this weekend to look at the sale items, but I found nothing. And the fact that almost all the local GS are now COMPLETELY bare of original Xbox stuff takes away a huge reason I ever went in there anyway.

Last Friday I passed up an original Gameboy with Tetris in some kind of plastic gameboy holder thing for $9, a NES Tecmo Bowl for 95 cents, and a bag of 3 loose genesis games for $3 (I had them all). The store has a ZERO RETURN policy, so I didn't want to take a chance on the GB, and the line to check out was so long that it wasn't worth the time to buy the other games. That's the closest I've come to a find in a good 10 days or more. I'm starting to jones a little.....

Another "Holy Crap" day at the Goodwill dock sale.... and now with pictures!

http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac5/Ryaan2000/DockSale-1.jpg?t=1260913059
When I got in I immediately headed to the right where they put DVDs and CDs. I noticed a big pile of games. Got as many as I could carry and grabbed a basket and put more in it. I got rid of the sports games and was left with this. Everything was $0.50 a piece :D except for the empty Gameboy cases, which were $0.10 each. The notables in this lot are TMNT: Hyperstone Heist, grey Zelda II, and Krazy Kreatures. Decided to get air sea battle too cause you can't beat a common Atari 2600 game in really nice shape for 50 cents lol.

http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac5/Ryaan2000/DockSale-2.jpg?t=1260913420
Everything in this picture was $1-3 each. remotes are being sold on eBay as replacements. Notables are that really nice Realistic Highball 2 mic, Magellan GPS, Roomba home base (which brings around $20 on eBay), Sharp equation editor graphing calculator, Sony voice operated recorder, Corex Cardscan 300 and a ohmmeter. Note that I did not take these remotes from their proper DVD players/stereos. They were found all by their lonesome. Most of these remotes should be worth $8-10 a piece on eBay as replacements. The 3 big gray Sony ones should be worth $10-15. If anybody's wondering the remote brands are Sony, Onkyo, Creative, Fisher, Drake, and Cyberhome.

http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac5/Ryaan2000/DockSale-3.jpg
Last pic. Everything in the picture was $0.50 each. Got Fraggle Rock for my sis. The thing in the lower right is a sampler disc for a reproduction 17th century organ. Kinda weird but I thought it was interesting.

In case anybody was wondering total for everything was aaround $62. I also got a Radio Shack CB transceiver worth around $50, a D-Link wireless media transmitter worth about $30, and a Petsafe instant fence radio fence transmitter.

Wheh that was a lot of typing. I haven't even check the eBay value for the small electronics. This was an unusually good day at the dock sale. I normally don't find this much. I swear I've never seen so many phones in one place too. I think cordless phone go to the dock sale to die. I can't even salvage and resell the adapters from the darn things. Nobody wants em.

Dock sale again guys.

Nothing interesting so no massive pictures. I got the heart rate attachment for a Garmin Forerunner 301, a Minitek adapter, Panasonic camcorder charger, a Swatch "Twin" style phone (80s rad), and a few other items going to eBay.

On the video game side I got the 2nd disc for Jedi Academy (nice replacement disc to pick up) and SimAnt (a game that I've been wanting to play) at $0.50 a pop.

Also got a niiice special edition copy of Ghost in the Shell. This is a movie I've been wanting. It has a poster and eveyrthing. Awesome.

Also got Will & Grace seasons 1-8 on 5 discs. Didn't realize it was a pirate until I read the back and there were typos a plenty. It's in the "HDVD-9" format LOL. This might end up being a pressie for a friend of mine who doesn't care whether or not they watch bootlegs.

One more thing. MTV "Original Series" of The Maxx on VHS. Looked interesting and I can't wait to watch it. Looks like a great little show. And the VHS is worth $15-20 on eBay to boot since it's OOP.

I found two power supplies I needed for those A/V switches ($2 for both), a Genesis power supply ($2) and a Logitech USB control pad ($4).

But that's not the best part.

See, the booth where I got the pad and the Genny A/C? Well, I started to talk to one of the booth owners. After a while we both realized we're fighting gaming nerds. I started talking about how I'm mostly a retro collector these days because I skipped the Saturn / PS1 / N64 eras, and he tells me he has like twenty old Sega CD games he wants to sell. I tell him "Well, I also collect for Saturn." And he says he has some too. He basically says "I'll sell the Sega CD ones for $2, and the Saturn ones for $3." My jaw drops, and I get really excited about this. He then tells me "I also have a bunch of Japanese imports like the Darkstalkers games and KOF on the Saturn, but those aren't cheap" - $20 each. Eh. I like the games but don't want to deal with the load times. Still.

$2-$3 a game isn't bad. I hope I get some decent titles I've been looking for. And I don't really want anything to resell, at least not this time...

He gave me his email address, and asked me to send him a message. The dude apparently owns a small store in Riverside and he repairs and mods systems. He only comes down twice a month, so I'll be looking for him after Christmas.

/me prays there's a Panzer Dragoon Orta in the lot

Castlevania (NES)
Donkey Kong Classics (NES)
Xevious (NES)
Bart vs. the Space Mutants (NES)
Metal Gear Solid (PS)
Guitar Hero Van Halen (360)

The MGS has both discs on the same spindle - it's not a dual disc case or anything. Is this the standard release?

The GH : VH is a promotional "Not for Sale" copy. It was sold to me in a jewel case, but the art in the case was originally a standard promo game envelope that someone cut in half and put in the case. Was this one packed with GH: 5 or something? Never seen it.

The GH:VH was the mail in copy you got if you bought GH5 early on. That was a nice find for the price (had it in my hand yesterday, but decided against it since I already have one). Glad someone I know got it!

Sweet! Glad you passed it up! I realize that I forgot to post the prices - all games were $4.99 but GH:VH was $9.99. Considering that I was buying it next week for full price, that's a deal!

For all we know, he's going to bring the entire Digital Pictures set of games.

... which is something I really am after. :P The Sega CD did have some good games... and so did the Saturn. You got a ton of games I'd love to play one day, so I'm still jealous of you.

Even so if there in there cases it's a great deal the cases alone can go for $3 a piece if thay have no cracks or broken hinges.

Speaking of that I’m glad I have 3 Saturns because I can’t find a Saturn memory card for nothing and after 5 or so games the internal memory is long gone.

Got an Atari 1040STf with harddrive and monitor and around 50 programs for $25, only problem is that it's missing the monitor cable, one of those proprietary 13 pin ST ones.

I kept forgetting to write it in, but a few days ago I found an IBM compatible Secret of Monkey Island complete (so I think - has the dial-a-pirate wheel, four disks, catalog, some other stuff) in pretty good shape. Just some very minor scuffing on the box. It's good that they don't wrap tape around these games anymore (also good that tons of people don't seem to have pawed through the contents).

Two dolla 99. I love how that thrift seems to just get PC games.

There's been a stack of NES games, all look like ex-rentals though. The desirables were Kid Kool and Metal Gear, but looking at ebay, I'd probably not be happy enough with the condition of these to justify saving the buck or two.

Any good? I'm gathering that they're not, but is it at least decent enough to play with?

I went on a thrift run today and found NOTHING. Goodwill had a copy of Doom 3 for $20... I didn't even find any good music, my area sucks right now.

Personally, I did not enjoy using it.. The best way I can describe it is having a virtual boy strapped to your head while what would normally be viewed on your television perfectly is beamed into your eyes with the resolution and clarity of a Game Gear.. The combined strain of this was enough to give me a headache rather quickly, so I can only imagine that long gaming sessions would be almost unbearable in comparison.. If you are looking to pick one up, do it for the sake of novelty as opposed to an improved gaming experience.. I had low expectations going in, so I am happy with my purchase..

One find before work today, but quality > quantity.

I decided to stop in at a local thrift before work. My Wife is not a huge fan of the store, but I managed. I headed to the glass case that is usually full of janky dvds and pc titles. On the top shelf, I found my prize.

Aerobiz Supersonic (SNES, cart only) - $2.oo

The cart is absolutely mint. The contacts are so clean, I am wondering if anyone actually played it. My first good find in quite some time, and I'm pretty damn happy.

It was, but now it's horrendous. Thrift stores are few and far between, pawns are in the worst of worst areas and fleas have died off considerably, at least by me and been replaced with almost constant craft fairs.

Seriously, I am living vicariously through your finds.

Not a find but a missed opportunity.

My company had their white elephant gift party last night which I skipped to get some extra work done.

Talking to my office mate today, he told me that one of the gifts given was a Virtual Boy. Boxed. With all the paperwork and packing inside.

Aurrgh!

But now I can record all the stuff I want. ^_^

...what's worse? Having nothing around you, or having everything around you with everything marked up to insane prices?
The flea market here has a ton of stuff, but I'd have to pick it up in bad condition at eBay prices. There are no "deals" unless you make them.

It makes me happy that there are at least some shop owners out there that understand that giving someone a small deal will result in return business. Thank you Cybertron and Play-n-Trade for your Buy2Get1 inside deals.

This is definitely the most frustrating part of the hunt, but this is also why I feel that patience is the most important quality to have when it comes to what we do.. For every "deal" I do find, there are numerous items I simply have to walk away from laughing to myself in disbelief.. I am sure everyone here can relate.

Same here. My local GW hasn't had anything interesting for about a month, and I haven't been able to get out of town. Just started a new job though, so the finances are improving, and I should have some free time between now and the end of the year. Maybe I will do a big loop and hit some of the other haunts.

You should check out the Tohono O'odam swap meet on drexel and mission. I went there a couple weeks ago and got some pretty good stuff. 12 boxed genesis games including phantasy stars, streets of rage 1 and 2, wonder boy etc for $5 total.

From what I remember, the game itself was a Blockbuster exclusive. It's about an egg that works in a steel mill. Avoid hot things, or he cooks. I remember renting it simply because it looked so weird.

While the wife was Christmas shopping I stopped by Goodwill last night. For once they actually had some Sega Saturn games. The bad news was that I didn't see anything that I wanted and they wanted $5 each for them. They also had some Sega CD games, but, then again, nothing I wanted. I finally got smart and decided to check the discs in the cases. I am glad that I did. In the case for the Saturn version of NHL Powerplay '96 was the disc for Guardian Heroes. Of course I snatched it up, but it is far from perfect. It has a few little scratches and a small crack at the center that extends maybe 1/16th of an inch into the data. Here is a picture of the disc:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll314/JYakapucci/Heroes.jpg

Is there any program that will let me check to see if it can read the data okay or if there is any data on that portion of the disc? Aside, of course, from playing through the whole game.

Well, you could rip it as an ISO and make a backup, but you'll need to use the swap trick or something to play it on a real Saturn. I'd avoid a high-speed drive, though. Use a laptop drive or something that holds the disk well and doesn't spin too fast.
