Beaten in 2010

Working my way through all the Color Dreams games right now. Sat down and played through Pesterminator last week. I finally picked up a splitter so now I can record my NES games from actual hardware onto my computer with my capture card. Took about 2 hours in all to beat the game, using only 2 continues. The toughest part is playing with the slippery controls. Pesterminator consisted of 8 stages, with stage 8 being two parts. The first stage takes place in a random house, second stage in a high rise Hotel, third stage in the sewers, the fourth stage was in the house again with inverted colors and doors leading to different areas. Stage 5 was by far the coolest where you piloted a helicopter and dropped bombs on giant mosquitos. I really enjoyed that level, the controls were actually pretty solid as well there! Stage 6 was the sewers inverted with different colors, and a giant Bug boss as shown. Stage 7 took place underwater which reminded me a lot of playing Jaws, wasn't too bad of a level at all. Stage 8, the final stage was 2 parts, part 1 is outside on the moon similar to Duck Tales, and part 2 was inside a base located on the moon, which was a giant labyrinth where you fought Ronnie the Super Rat at the end after killing all the pests. Screen shots from each stage including the ending screen are included below. In all it was pretty bad, the Helicopter part was enjoyable, but other than that the game was horrible as far as the control and gameplay were concerned.

I finished Just Cause 2 today. Could've beat it in a week, but I was constantly distracted by the endless things to do on my way to each mission. Excellent open-world game...one of the best IMO. This is what Mercenaries 2 should've been like.

So I decided that today would be dedicated (almost exclusively) to gaming, and I wanted some games that I have finished many times before, even before I starting mass collecting.

So beaten on 4/18:

Super Mario Bros 2 (NES): the rust only showed here and there, but I was able to do it without warping, and not in any trouble for lives, even without trying to acquire them

Super Mario Bros 3 (NES): No problems here. A funny thing happened though that has never happened to me before. I played the matching game, and in doing so, I triggered the coin boat. I entered with 58 coins, and 8 as my tens digit, and acquired the 30 coins, putting me at 88 coins, and the wandering hammer bro changed to a boat, I didn't realize that it could happen following the matching game. I beat the hammer bro, and then the game froze on me. I reset the game, and plowed through it, finishing Bowser with fire Mario.

Mega Man 2 (NES): This was on difficult. Not that this has happened to me, but if you run out of your weapon, but still have plenty of lives to fight Wily, are you totally screwed?

Mega Man 4 (NES): The rust certainly showed on this one. I was down to my last life on only my fourth robot master. I had to use the Fliptop trick to get me back to the safe side (if it had gone to the game over screen, I would have turned it off)

G.I. Joe (NES): This is the Taxan game, and I actually finished the 3rd quest at 12:11 am, so that would be the 04/19 (first two quests were finished before midnight). It's a decent platformer if you haven't tried it.

31. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time

I've never been much for dungeon games like this. They always struck me as annoying. However, I found this game at a reasonable price at a swap meet last year, so I thought I'd give it a try (being a Pokemon fan and all). The game is hard, but you're given plenty of opportunities to level up and obtain decent items. Not to mention the game looks adorable. Music gets tired after a bit and the characters tend to be a bit long winded. Worth a shot for any Pokemon or dungeon type game fan.

This game....this game. It plays like shit, it looks like shit, it sounds like shit. I haven't tried, but I'm willing to bet that if I put the disk in my mouth, I'd discover that it tasted like shit too. 16 levels of hard on the eyes bullshit. I remember when this game was being first advertised. It was touted about as fun alternative for parents to buy for their kids instead of popular violant games that were becoming more common during that time. And that's where I stop talking, cause I'm just going to keep being an ass here.

8. gears of war (insane, 360) - 4/21 - with the announcement of gow3, my friend and i decided to run through the older games again on insane. didn't have too much trouble with it, and gears is still a great game. the catchall a-button gets confused about what you want sometimes, but it's not a huge issue.

Hmm. I am a fan of the show, but not a big fan of this game. It's mostly timed mission where you are supposed to strugle against the slippery controls in an attempt to find a bunch hidden items and close holes in space, while dodging enemies. That's....about it.

I've been wanting to give this one another shot lately (haven't played it through in years), and today I started playing it. Only took a little over an hour and a half, but I played it all the way through. I didn't even get Beat or the Energy Balancer, but I ended up with maybe three or four unused E-Cans. When I was a kid, these games were so friggin hard for me, but 9 and 10 have changed that. Fun times.

Completed the main 30 maps in Final Doom: TNT Evilution on Hurt Me Plenty using zDoom. All that remains is Plutonia, which is easily the hardest of the original Dooms. Working on Quake 4 and the expansion for Wolf3D now.

I had a burning desire to play through 6 again, and I'm convinced that it's one of the easiest in the series. It's right up there with 2 in terms of being able to blow through it in an hour or so. I felt like playing something afterwards, so I grabbed my import copy of X and unscrewed my Game Genie. (Why does the Game Genie have to have the tabs? My SNES is wobbly enough as it is without the top-heavy combo of a GG and an SFC cart, and I left my Retro Duo in my car. Oh well...)

It took 3 1/2 years, but I finally beat Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess last night.

I played about 1/3 of the game over the course of 2007 and put it down until January of this year. While I was distracted with other games since then, I managed to beat a dungeon or two every play session.

Overall, it's an excellent (at times) yet deeply flawed game. Well, the Wii version is anyway. I played the Wii version and regretted it several times (I have the GC version as well). The technology just isn't precise enough or even able to do the things they want you to do.

Anyway, hopefully I'll never have to see, "Point the Wii Remote at the Screen" again.

Not a bad game. A bit like a retarded version of Kingdom Hearts. Short game with wreched controls and amazing music. Also, one of the few Wii games to actually have achievements. I noticed that it had a number of issues keeping the sound sinched and sometimes it takes forever to load anything.

I started this back around Christmas and just picked it up a couple nights ago to finish it. Overall, I enjoyed the first part of the game, but the jump in difficulty in the later portions just ruined it for me. I enjoyed the original and GBA port of this game, but I just didn't enjoy this remake quite as much as those two versions.

This is one of those games where the previews make the game seem much more interesting than it is. That said, it looks great, sounds great, but plays slow as all hell. It takes forever to level and has this complicated of determining how a character grows and learns skills. Some of the later levels require a crazy ammount of levels to beat, which is awesome in some ways and crazy as fuck in many other ways.

Had this one sealed since I picked it up for $10 a year or so ago. Campaign took about 4-5 hours to finish. Nice shooting mechanics for a FPS, everything else was shit. This ends my review.

The Ballad of Gay Tony. When it comes to the missions, The Ballad of Gay Tony has the worst mission structure of any of the GTA4 games. Storyline is alot better than The Lost and Damned. How much I enjoyed the games I'd say GTA4, TBoGT, TLaD. The extras are cool, but they really don't put them above GTA4 when it comes to the overall package.

Not bad, but not good either. The stat system leaves something to be desiered. Basically, there is no leveling. When a character attacks physically, it raised their physical attributes but lowers their magical ones (and vice versa). It's a cute idea, but it takes some getting used to. The story isn't very compelling, nore are the characters.

Beating Final Fantasy 2 finishes off...

A fun little collection. The Final Fantasy 1 port plays and looks great. Final Fantasy 2...I'd have enjoyed it better if the interface was more like FF1's, but that game has bigger problems that that. I'd say that anyone who'd like to play FF1 or 2 should look into getting this, but I think better, faster versions are avilable for the PSP and GBA.

After playing it since before I opened an account here on DP, and having to start over several times because the emulator I used always seemed to lose my save file somehow, I finally managed to beat Super Mario RPG...on an actual Super NES.

Just finished Deadly Premonition. SIMPLY FANTATIC! Loved every minute of it, though I would not mind going back for the side missions and card collecting.
