you are sending consoles media mail? if they catch that, and they do check, they will send it back to you.
What they do is charge the reciepiant the additional shipping. It happend to a co-worker last week, when something he bought from Ebay or Amazon (some computer parts) were shipped that way. The mailman woulnd't leave the package w/o an additional 7.55 postage. Box came with a bunch of notices on it about what should be media mail as well.
I don't understand why people ship everything media mail (or try to). First Class isn't much more and is WAY faster.

Yeah, after having some Manga I packaged and shipped out awhile back get opened, and then repackaged, i've never used media mail again. It's slow, and nothing ever seems to ship correctly.

First Class only works up to 13 oz., though, and a console weighs well over that. Priority is a lot more expensive when you are sending something "$20 shipped".
That said, I follow the rules on that stuff. In my case I sent a box of PS1 games and they were returned to me since Games don't qualify for media mail. Seems like BS that games on CD don't but music on CD does, but whatever. I suspect your friend could have refused delivery and it would have just been returned. Then it would have been the seller's problem again.

I've honestly never had a problem sending something media mail. I print out a label online and drop it in the automatic postal system in the front of the post office so no workers actually look at it.
If I sent them priority or parcel I would be making no money. One person paid me expedited shipping and it cost me $14 to ship.

Because if people can send stuff fast or save a penny, they will save a penny.

This BS depends on the post office. I've gotten Media packages just fine, and have only had one package inspected. But my local clerks will not let me even mention it or else they start foaming at the mouth and yell at me. The postmaster is a douche.
This is Amazon's fault, too. Their shipping credit (for computer and video games) is what, $4 max? They also say the item has up to two or three weeks to arrive. They're blatantly saying "Use Media Mail."

At the risk of sounding dickish... well, you have to deal with it. Amazon's shipping credit is way too low for many items, which is why a lot of things are overpriced there. :\

You all wanted to know what games, so I took some pictures, hopefully you can figure out what games they are from the pictures. I didn't see anything overly exciting, I bought it mostly for the neo geo, the atari decks, and the coleco deck.
I didn't take any more pictures of the decks with sticker cause it was really only the ps1 with the smiling pirate and the xbox that had graphics on them.

Its not really at the counter that they inspect the packages, its at distribution and sorting centers where they would choose to do it I believe. They probably have a better chance of checking a big 40lb box than a bubble pack or something.
It would be so nice if the rates for media mail were also the same rates for priority, but unfortunately thats not the case. Some things are $50 priority and only $12 media. I use fedex for anything large because usps will just rape you.

Anyways, I hit a terrible estate sale this morning (around 8ish) before going to the lot sale. I got a nice boxed copy of Sim City 2000 special edition, mint & complete and everything. I also got a copy of Quickbooks Pro 2004 with it's case and key. They were a buck a piece. I love the Sim games and for some reason I keep on buying boxed Sim whatever. I guess I have some sort of sickness LOL. As I guessed, the Quickbooks is an easy $20 on eBay. Not bad I guess, but it's a shame the estate sale was so overpriced. For instance they had a National brand microscope, with the dual eyepiece. It had been used in a home school curriculum. They had $500 on it O_O. (btw, I checked it on eBay and it's worth around $100 LOL).
Also, a TI-54 (http://cgi.ebay.com/COMPLEX-NUMBERS-Very-rare-Texas-Instruments-TI-54-/180514804251?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Calculators&hash=item2a0785521b) calculator for $1, merely bought because I'd never seen one before. Again, not too bad I guess. I love being in Texas. Texas Instruments stuff is so common here LOL (dunno if it's like that anywhere else >_> )
I went to the lot sale, but came back empty handed. They really didn't have anything new today.

How much did the Zodiac cost you?
Also, I thought video games could be sent thru media mail. I send all of mine thru first class unless they are too heavy(which rarely happens). I need to reread the media mail shipping guidelines.

The Zodiac cost me 60 GBP, which I think is around $85? It came with the original box and everything was in it, including a leather case and the guy also included 2 2GB SD cards, but I think I may need to replace the battery.

Got a loose Atari 2600 woodgrain 6-switch today for $5, but all it's putting out is a blank screen. Definitely turns on, but I can't get a game to boot on it. It's odd because it looks really great, almost brand new. I'm suspecting the cart slot. Any ideas?
Also, should all the chips be in holders like that? I thought they just soldered them to the board. I don't know a lot about Atari, so any help is appreciated.

Yeah. So it turns out my video card commited suicide last night, it stopped working after installing Premiere Elements 4. I couldn't get it to do anything, my computer wouldn't recognize it. I ended up buying a PCI video card (64MB Geforce 4 MX 440) that was for sale at the booth where I bought the Diablo games two days ago. It cost me... a dollar. It was brand new. I popped it in my system and I have a video signal again, but of course, it won't run games very well, if at all. I can keep working. But I can't play. :(
I also owe the guy who sold me this a cup of coffee. I told him I'd buy him one as thanks if it worked.
The other stuff? Pure luck. I saw Office 2003 Professional Upgrade on a table between a bunch of clothes and DVDs. The Outlook 2003 was under it. $4 for both.
The Primus thing is a CD+DVD set. It cost me a buck. The Hoagy Carmichael CD was also a buck.
Rest in peace, old video card, I never registered you for the warranty and now I'm fucked and have to buy a new one.

Hit a craigslist rummage during lunch today that advertised a PS2 and “MANY video games”. Didn’t look like much when I pulled up, but as I walked over, I saw a PS2 slim system sitting on top of a small table. They wanted 50 bucks for it, so I really didn’t give it a second look. What caught my eye instead was the clear plastic tub under the table with stacks of PS2 games in it, and especially the game on top…
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - $4.00
That’s nice for a change, I thought as I bent down to go through the bin, the good game on top of all the sports titles. It was complete and in great shape, so I put it aside to start a keep pile next to the bin. Only thing was, the next title in the stack wasn’t a sports game either…it was Disgaea 2, then Grandia III, and Tales of the Abyss, plus Odin Sphere, and MANY, MANY more!
Almost everything in the bin was a quality RPG, complete and well-cared for, ranging from $1 to $5! A few were a bit more, but they came with guides, and there were also some quality Gamecube titles. I left behind a few common RPGs I already had in my collection, but pretty much just took up the entire bin and didn’t even try to haggle. Final damage was $121.00 for 32 games and 3 guides (but I did get him to throw in the bin for free ;) ). I’m pretty sure that this is the most I have ever spent at a rummage sale on video games, but think I came out okay…

Went to 3 or 4 Thrift stores today and found absolutely nothing. People need to get off their asses and get jobs. I expect that being a college student on summer break that I can drive around between normal working hours with minimal traffic and minimal competition at thrift stores. Wrong. I was stuck in traffic all over the damn city and every store was crawling with guys with their barcode scanners and women buying everything they can get their hands on. Anyways, after that rant, I found nothing.

Yes, those are all boxed. In total there are 111 loose carts and 101 boxed carts. I'd rather not say how much I paid, but I don't think I'm going to have an issue making back my investment and having plenty left over. :)

Well, at the only thrift around here that I've ever found TurboGrafx-16 games at in the past, I managed to find another batch of them. 8 in total, all $1.98 each. I actually don't have too many Turbo games, since I didn't buy many back in the day and now they're hard to locate second hand. Brave Fencer Musashi
Darkstalkers 3

This sale had a decent sized table with a bunch of PS2/PS1 games, probably about 50 games or a little more between both systems. Said $4 a game $10 for 3 and I think some other price if you bought more. I picked out these 3 and tried to do a little better since they were PS1 games but the lady said they were for her son that wasen't around and that he was trying to raise money for a vaction (be it the truth or not).

The N64 & GBA stuff were from an unadvertised sale that I was actually told about at a sale a block over on my list so they get an assist on this find had I never would have went back over a block to this sale if they never told me about it. Unnecessary thread is unnecessary. Stand alone finds threads are for games. All other finds belong in the Monthly finds thread. Besides your post wasn't even really about a find and was more about asking a question that could have gone in OT.
The vinyl is more expensive because its a limited run, with a high grain count and geared towards collectors/audiophiles.

Playing catch up over the past week. First some PS2 titles that I was long overdue in picking up, I think I paid $10.00 total if I remember correctly...
PS2 - Lego Star Wars (complete)
PS2 - Le Mans 24 Hours (complete)
PS2 - Okami (complete)
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2010-06-18(01).jpg
Vacation is only a few more weeks away and I have a couple days set aside to catch up on some of my gaming / writing. I'll probably play Okami then as I've finally worked out about all the extra stuff I care to do in Steambot Chronicles.
Since I finally have a couple days off the 'fridge has been stocked...

$15.00 DVD boxset pickup, Future GPX Cyber Formula, one of my favorite anime series. The outer slip cover has a little shelf wear but the two individual boxes and discs are fine...
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2010-06-18(03).jpg
Lastly an animation cel that I've been after for a long time. Well, not the specific cel but a cel from a particular sequence.
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2010-06-18(04).jpg
Makoto Kino from Sailor Moon R episode #56. The scene in question is one that became fairly infamous with the fan base as the girls are arguing about who will play the lead in Snow White. When it comes to Makoto she said she should play Snow White because she has the largest breasts. In the English dub this was reworked as her having the most "talent." I'm a sucker for most things Makoto but it's really nice to have a cel from this sequence checked off my list. I'll probably frame it this weekend. $15.00 from eBay, got lucky.

Picked up a Dreamcast with 6 games. The games are Soul Calibur, Sonic Sdventure, Sega Rally 2, Speed Devils, Vanishing Point, and Ready 2 Rumble boxing. $20 on craigslist.
Also picked up Pokemon Crystal for $1. I finally found a loose copy of Crystalis on NES in the wild for $5, it's not a great price, but I have been wanting to play this one for quite some time and didn't really feel like buying it off ebay.

You've got good taste. I luvvs me some Cheerwine. Not a big fan of Vernor's though. And you've got Jolt Cola! I thought the parent company went out of business, and it was bought by someone else and turned into a generic energy drink. I hope I can get my grubby mitts on some over here!

Is that an ORIGINAL animation cell from the series? If so then you either got insanely lucky or the price of those things really dropped off in recent years. I would have thought something like that would have cost a ton more.
I'm also now realizing how manly a girl's name " Makoto Kino" is. Main character of the anime kino's journey & makoto from street fighter both came to mind, being very androgynous.

I stopped by a sale, whose most notable item in the ad was "Precious Moments figures" LOL
Ummmm.... well, I was stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a box with an Xbox 360 sticking out of it. O_O
The Xbox had a $5 price sticker on it, obviously RROD. It's one of those early stripped-down models, with no onboard memory and only A/V out (no HDMI). It had a 64mb card attached.
Anyway, when I looked in the box I saw a more goodies, took it up to the checkout table and asked what they'd do for the whole box. It was $20 for the whole box, and I grabbed 2 360 games for a buck a piece. I got:
Slim PS2 with power and A/V (People at the sale told me all it needs is that "2 circle" style dongle for it's power, and it's working otherwise)
Fat PS2 with power and a broken disc drive door (don't think it's working)
Xbox 360 with power brick, A/V cables, and 64mb memory card. (RROD)
Not bad, considering a broken fat PS2 is worth $15 and a working slim is worth $30 (perhaps more) when I couple controllers with it. I may try to do a RROD fix on this Xbox. I still have that $3 Xbox that I put a RROD fix on, and all it needs is an outer shell.
They had a bunch of PS2 games and a few 360 games, but they were mostly Madden and NHL games. Ghost Recon and Over G Fighters were the 2 360 games I got for a $1 each. When I powered on the 360 NHL 07 was in it. And Madden 08 was in the slim PS2.
That's really it, it's been a really Texas Instruments-y week for me. Thursday I found a neat 80s TI calculator, yesterday I found a boxed Speak & Spell in good shape for $1, and today I found the "Holy triad" of Texas Instruments: A Speak & Read, Speak & Math, and Speak & Spell (earlier button version) in beat up shape for $0.25 a piece :D

Yes, it's original. As with most things (somewhat like video games actually) prices vary amazingly widely. I've gotten higher median value cels for less and I've paid over market for low value cels many times. I don't think the market has dropped off but I do think there's a much wider gap between the affordable and the insane these days. With the series' that I enjoy getting older that rift is only increasing in size. There are also fewer large scale collectors that used to inject the market on a regular basis with pieces they were selling. So you basically have really nice cels that come up in the sub $20.00 range from time to time, and then others that are priced in the $200.00+ range that people sit on for years. Gone really are the days of the market and lower level collectors deciding the value, at least for old anime cels. The stuff I passed up years ago for pocket change... :bawling: There are still a few sources that keep things in the $30.00 - $100.00 range which is nice for people just starting out or those like myself that only buy a few cels here and there (http://www.classicplastic.net/anime/acels.html) (Pac-Man and the bank breaking Mr. DNA not shown).

I uh. Actually find their stuff pretty often. I only picked it up because it had a DVD. >_>
I guess that shows how bad my area is (I'd at least like to find and replace my lost Pork Soda CD as far as Primus goes), I did find a Revolting Cocks CD at a yardsale a few years ago which surprised me and is probably the least expected to find CD that I've ever bought at a yardsale. I can't even find Sublime (selftitled) 3 times I've ran into it at yardsales only for the case to be empty @_@

4x PSP Game Cases, 2x Xbox Duke Controllers & 15 Playstation Games - $10ish
First sale I went today and got to it right after 8 as it advertised some of the video game stuff & Garbage Pail Kids. I only say $10ish as I paid $10 for this stuff and a few other minor things not pictured most notably 90 some GPK from series 1 & 2. PSP cases you can probably see the IAP in the picture, Dukes were $3 for both and the PS1 games said $1 each or $5 for all. I set out the worthwhile games and the other 9 are sports games, probably should have just grabbed the good stuff for the same price or less but I always feel a little more like spending first time I see something worthwhile at a yardsale for fear of the rest of the day being little or nothing.
Mario Party 5
Super Smash Bros Melee
(Both Complete) $7
I went to this sale pretty early as it advertised games, PS2 system for $35 and mostly bad Wii games for $5 each. $5 each took $7 for both.
7 Playstation Games - .25 each
No story here except that they had PS1 games marked cheap at .25
4x N64 Controllers - $1
Unadvertised sale, I only pictured 2 of the 1st party controllers the other 2 were generic 3rd party goodness. No price took my offer of a buck.
Resident Evil Director's Cut (Complete, GH) - $1
Had a boxed PS1 with about 6 games for $10. Asked about this $2 and took a buck.
N64 With Hookups - $1
Found this at a street sale in a box of stuff with no price took my offer of a buck.

10 Atari Computer Games, Dig Dug (7800), Sam & Max (Disc Only), 2x The Punisher Guns (PS1, Saturn) & Misc Nintendo Stuff - $5
This was at a church sale that also had some people set up on the lawn like a flea market. The one lady selling had this stuff and I ended up taking everything I got for $5.
Intellivision With 5 Games With Some Misc Manuals, Overlays In A Boxed Video Game Storage Center - $5
Asked about games at a sale and this was brought out, offered $5 which was taken.

Picked up a box of stuff on Craigslist for $50
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t295/Scrimble/P1030811.jpg
Xbox w/ 3 controllers, power cable
Sega Saturn with 4 controllers, cables
SNES mini with controller, cables and 8 games (SMW, DKC, Super Punch Out)
N64 with controller, exp pak, cables and 1 game
Genesis with controller, cables and 6 games
There are 4 PS1s with 4 controllers, cables and an Xbox Thrustmaster wheel and pedals in the box which I forgot to put in the picture. The SNES, N64 and Genesis were thrown in for free because they were "broken" but after I cleaned the carts they work perfectly. There also a few extras in there like a few PS1 games, an NES controller, Metroid for NES, Sega RF cables and some sort of famiclone controllers and carts.

Phantasy Star 0
Mario & Luigi: Bower's Inside Story
Yoshi's Island DS
(DS And All Complete) $33
Craigslist around here isn't that great but a few times a year I'll find something of interest to me from somebody that is actually serious (and reasonable) about making a sale. In order listed was asking 15,20,5 and I shot an e-mail offering $35 for the three. Meet up and everything was good but the guy didn't have a $5 for change from $40 and I could only do $33 without getting change back with the bills I had.
Small world as this actually ended up being the same guy I bought about 50 Genesis games from last year at his yardsale. This was last September IIRC but they actually did the street sale today which I passed on since I was at it last year and BSing with the guy he wasen't selling anything today and it sounded like he wasen't in this year as they didn't have much around the house to sell.
