Besides cracking on the list (which i'm doing now) A update of sorts is in need on the PS front. Thanks to Queen Of The Felines for reminding me about it.

We've gotten a new PS release. Well its not new, BUT DDR Konamix was released as a GH title about a month ago. I've only seen it in one Chain out here 'Fry's Electronics' and Kris I believe saw it in a GS back in Chicagoland. More than likely to be one of the Rarest GH titles due to its WAY late release.

Thanks for the info, DB. I'll throw this in with my data too. I'll throw you guys more info about the PS book when I'm back in the states in 6 weeks. It looks like you guys have your hands full with the Eidos variants.

it was all over ebay for awhile. I would imagine that you can still find one there. At the time, I was looking for the original version and the GH was all I could find.

New copies are all over ebay.

Capcom reprinted the game 100% exact to its original release several years ago. Apparenly they must have realized no one was picking up on it since I only ever saw it at my local family store. They must have had some sort of liquidation to distributors to move it, especially now that they know PS3 is backwards compatible.

Christ it took me three tries to write that...typing skills are gone...

The Plot has thickened...

So in doing some research for SpaceHulk's apparent longbox variant, I discovered something that may or may not help in determining its existence:

It would have been the last long box release, ever, and it would have been almost 2 months since the previous long box game was launched (Tecmo's World Golf).

There are about 15 regular jewel case (that have NO LONGBOX version) releases inbetween the two games. Is this the sign we've been waitng for to prove that the 'long box' we saw was just a display box, or could it really have been the last long box and it was simply delayed by 2 months for whatever reason?

Curious and Curiouser

kevincure

Concerning that box - it was found and sold by my man Josh (Qixmaster), who definitely knows his stuff (he's been through hundreds of PSX games) and pays attention to detail (he collects screw variants for the NES, for chrissakes). If it were a display variant, it would have been one that was near identical to an actual release to slip through his fingers undetected.

Dangerboy

The problem is the lack of the manual, that would have been the clincher.

Considering most companies send out inserts that are exactly the real deal, I wouldn't be surprised if they had shipped real boxes as displays, but then switched to jewel case when it actually shipped. 2 months is a decent enough wait time for it.

Ah....the hunt of long box hunts continues...

LOL!!!!!

Well I'm not touching this one. I wont claim anything but the 9/11 Syphon Filter 3 that I was told didnt exist..... and we konw how THAT turned out.

Kris I think DB emailed EA a while back and they said that there never was a 4player version. /me shrugs

I've got an Arc The Lad display box (the outer cardboard one) that looks almost identical to the released version and the only thing its missing is the barcode on it (I think, its not with me ATM). If I wanted to I could just drop that bundle in and sell it, and I dont think anyone would be the wiser.

A full Display case for Space Hulk doesnt seem unreasonable any more so than the 9th Alundra disc has still yet to rear its pretty little disk anywhere but in that picture for the disc art master (from that RPG site). I really need to get back on Vic's ass about that disc art and solve this once and for all.

Question: It looks like you guys are still revising the PlayStation data, and so I assume that the PlayStation list published in the Advance guide was a work in progress, correct? If so, how different do you anticipate your final list will be from the Advance guide's list?

(I've been holding off on buying the Advance guide mainly for this reason.)

PapaStu

Errrr Ummmmmmmm

See the problem is that for the most part the stuff is still new and prices have yet to really level off except in the realm of sports titles (where a bucks a bucks a buck). For the most part (well the bigger part) is that DP:A is almost 100% on with the lists (though it doesnt have 3 games that released after DP:A published and a some accessories that have been noted to me since the printing). Other than some ups and downs and the general lowering of the Lightspan titles to a much lower R (down from R7 to R3 I believe for all but a few truly hard to get titles) prices and raritys are for the most part close to on cue for current demands, all be it not set in stone. If anything the Print guide is a nice reference as to what you could/should be trying to pay for most titles in wild (and not off ebay), and even then regionally in some areas prices are really different, but the raritys are actually pretty on from what ive seen having hunted in the Bay Area and Chicago a decent amount.

Your really just missing out on my eventually awesome witty remarks for all 1270ish PS games which were started by QotF and are getting added to (or made) by me.

Better yet, where do you get the money for all this stuff? Millionth discs, turok dino talons, etc etc etc.

On the lighter note...

Also, about the C+L JoyStick. They were all over the place at EBs during the SNES Street FIghter heydays and they were even advertised in magazines (I recall GameFan having an ad for them). They originally retailed for about $60 - 90 if I recall correctly.

That's just a VCD player for the PSX. Although Sony did make a legit model with the function built in (can't recall the country, assembler has the pic) that's just a 3rd party add-on.

Back in the day, it would have allowed you to play VCDs, or in otherwords another way to just pirate over copius amounts of anime and movies, etc. Now-a-days people just do the DVD and torrent thing.

Great find though.

Saw a namco arcade joystick boxed complete at a local gaming store for 20 bucks

Definitely. Even the loose ones on eBay tend to sell for $50+. They don't show up on eBay often, so I'm guessing they're at least somewhat rare.

They're REALLY good too. The production quality is really high, and they feel great. And if you got a PlayStation to PC adapter, you can use it for MAME and such. :)

That's why i thought. It was only €2,50 so for that amount of money i couldn't leave it in the shop (considering it is also boxed and complete with rather funny manual). Problem is only that i don't own a PS1 or any VCDs so it might take a while before i can actually use it :)

I was wondering though:

8. Play Gameboy format file (mode 2) on your playstation.
What's this? Can it also play gameboy games? Or some special gameboy movies?

I owe my life to those Namco sticks.

When I was unemployed (and on unemployment) my ex took me shopping to get my mind off of my dire situation (I was jobless for 3 months at the time this occured).

We wander into a KayBee during thei rmassive and bizarre game sale, and in this giant wall display/box set up I see the corner of the Namco stick. I figure I could try and sell one, so I pick up the box and the price tag reads "9.99".

The bin sign reads "90% Off"

I bought all 4 sticks for $5ish after tax. Sold them on ebay for about $200 total. It paid the phone, electric, and internet bill for a month.

I still have mine, bless its little heart.

Have you tried it? I couldn't tell if it was encased in something or not in the photo you posted in another forum...

It's possible, given that it's just #X, that it's whatever was on the line that day, so it could be a game, a demo, may or may not work if they were having pressing problems. At least it would seem cheesier to make a blank disc commemorating #X than just pulling disc #X off the line.

Now that I'm back in the States, I'm back to earnest work on the PSX book. This book will be available for sale by the time of CGE, and I'm still hunting around to find places that will be able to print the book for as little as possible. That said, here are the last few questions I've got:

1) Final list of "ER" titles. My near-final list has 414 "C" games, 450 "U", 392 "R" and 27 "ER". The ERs are:
Adidas Power Soccer 98
BattleSport
Blockids
BrainDead 13 starring Fritz
Cleopatra's Fortune
Creatures: Raised in Space
Easter Bunny's Big Day
F1 World Grand Prix (Season 2000)
Fox Hunt
Goal Storm
Goal Storm '97
Hugo: The Evil Mirror
ISS Pro Evolution
K-1: Grand Prix
Psychic Detective
Rascal Racers
Roadsters
Rush Hour
Slots
Starblade Alpha
Tall: Infinity
Team Buddies
True Pinball
Viva Soccer
XS Airboat Racing
XS Junior League Football
XS Junior League Soccer

This is based on sales data for titles pre-2003, ebay tracking (3 years), earliest query posts on DP and my personal experience in the wild. Anyone see any obvious omissions or strikes?

SLUS/Reprint Q's. I've seen the following SLUS numbers listed for the following games - potential reprint numbers. Has anyone ever seen these variants?
SCUS-94494: contender 2 Sony publish? - maybe?
SLUS-00072 : Point Blank 3 [with Guncon] (for set)?
SLUS-00106 : Grand Theft Auto (possibly on GH version from "Director's Cut?")
SLUS-00527 : Jersey Devil (reprinted as nonsony?) Don't think so
SLUS-00588 : Tiny Tank (reprinted as nonsony?) Don't think so
SLUS-01050 : NASCAR Racing (reprint?) Don't think so
SLUS-01405 : Backyard Soccer (reprint)?
SLUS-01424 : Blaster Master - Blasting Again (reprint) - maybe?
Is XS Junior League Soccer 1520 or 1529?
SLUS-01583 : Peter Pan - Return to Neverland (potential majesco reprint?)

Thanks

if you find a PlayStation 1 PAL Einhander for €50 again please take one for me.

I have a nice collection of PAL titles [which I checked mostly to be unrated in the database], so if I can help with the system in any way, could someone tell me how either by replying, PM, or AIMing me. Starting with the reprint stuffs....
XS Junior League Soccer is SLUS 1520

'MY' GTA has a SLUS 00106 and is from the Directors Cut edition (not a GH) or anything else for that matter.

I've not seen a Blaster Master reprint, but then again i've not been looking for one. I'll keep my eye out.

Jersey Devil and Tiny Tank were both single run games.
I've only ever seen them both as Sony Releases. though I still think that there was something done to an uber earlier version of Tiny Tank (like a foil cover or something)

My Point Blank's SLUS number is NOwhere near that low. Did you typo that? If nothing else DB has a boxed set one and can answer that question for good.
Now onto the ER games...

I dont think that these should be under the ER ratings youve got running.
Cleopatra's Fortune
Slots
Tall: Infinity
XS Airboat Racing
XS Junior League Football
XS Junior League Soccer

I can walk into lots of stores and get Cleopatra's Fortune, Slots and Tall: Infinity quite easily.
The XS games are uncommon, but not impossible to get. Hell I've got a double of one of the 3 sports ones beacause I got overly trigger happy one day. I will say that AirBoat Racing is Rare if nothing else. Thats the one XS game I see the least of. My verdict is out on Hugo as well.... I'm thinking rare, but i know i dont see it very often.

Something seperate..... I was out and about this last weekend and found a Harry Potter and the Philsophers Stone. It was an NTSC/UC game, and the rear insert has a SLUS that was just a few numbers up on the other Potter game with the Sorcers Stone name (remember Sorceres Stone is the American name of that book, while the Philsophers Stone is the internation name for the first Potter book), (from like 1405 to 1412 or something close to that). It had a real barcode, however... the game manual that was with it, as well as the disc were both Sorcers Stone game and only the rear insert was different. The rear insert also had basic controls for the game listed in English and French (would be under the disc) on the inside of the insert and the back gave a description of the game in English/French. Needless to say its a Canadian version, however is it just containing a different rear insert, or was a whole new version of the game released? I didnt pick it up as the GS it was found in had a $20 'NEW' price sticker on it. Just a little steep for something like that for me, when theres more than likely a full version out there. I didnt need to dump 20 on the rear insert alone.

kevincure

Hmm. That Harry Potter is strange. If you see it again, can you note the SLUS and part number? I doubt the game is different - the original has French, Spanish and English dubbing (I played it to practice some french!). Did the spine say "Philosopher's Stone?"

About the other q's:
Thanks for the confirm on Jr. League Soccer. Another PSX list online had it as 1529, but I was pretty sure it was 1520, as you said.

I think I got myself confused on GTA - they all are 106.

Point Blank 3: not a typo, but again, another list online (that is more or less accurate) has Point Blank 3 Guncom set listed with that number, so I figured I'd ask. I think there's nothing to it though.

I think the only ones to keep an eye out for are reprints of Blaster Master and Peter Pan.

As for the ERs: I think I'll keep Airboat (it truly is tough to find, even now) and move the rest to R. They're all fairly new, so the market isn't at all settled, and you're right that it's too soon to say they're any rarer.

Thanks for the help, let me know if you guys have any q's. (Oh, next time I see you online, I want to connect up our Lightspan lists - new game titles keep popping up!)

The spine did say Philsophers Stone. The only part that actually was Philsophers Stone (of this copy) was the rear insert. The manual and the disc itself were the Sorcers Stone counterparts. I'll see if I can get it and we can hack away at its secrets.

Jason - in one of the Underground (1.2 maybe?), you mention the original rumble controller. I'm sure you know this, but the US did see the release of a dual analog controller with inverted thumsticks and extra long handles called the "Dual Analog Pad" (no rumble though). The writeup makes it appear as if we never got that type of controller.

And I'll definitely be checking out the sale next week :-).

I think it's SCPH-1180, you can throw a search for it and get all the info.

@Dangerboy & PapaStu
sorry, not one of them PAL releases has the PSRM number on it - we DO have a 7digit number printed on the spine card - it is 2004574 for R/C Stunt Copter for example but thats about it :(

Hrm, so this may only be a Sony USA thing. I dont own any PAL stuff, but none of the Japanese stuff has anything but the spine number on them. This may be a requirement for US releases and copywrite things, and since Sony US pregives out numbers (SLUS/SCUS) they need something that tie into an actual release more so (which is where the PSRM comes from). Thanks for looking AtariBuff.

Thanks atari!
Great, another dumb thing Americans get to hold over other gamers heads. ;)

On the plus side, I should be getting my uber-Lightspan shipment in, and god-willing, will hopefully get all the unlisted/unknown ones que'd up and sent to stu for addition to the guide.

LOTS of work ahead of the PSX crew...especially on my end..i'm nearing another completion milestone, with a possible one already en route!

After having attempted the editing of the prices and other things a few times (and having some stuff take, others not, and errors pop up) for the PS list, I finally went thru added a bunch of new description stuff, tweaked raritys and values for a decent portion of the guide as well as added a good number of Lightspan (about 30) games to the master list (and tweaked down those overly high values/raritys on the common LS games).

@ DB
I left the two on your list off that you dont have, we'll wait for those to show up in physical form before they get added.

When this pops in the guide exactly is unknown since the online guide is having some issues staying up at the moment. Fear not though, as there is an actual update in the wings.

As always any question or comments or anything of note for the PlayStation stuff should be sent my way, via PM or post or email. I'll get back to you ASAP.
