briskbc, do you see an SLUS style number on the package?

The only thing remotely similar is a Disney number:

I may have stumbled on to something with the Atlantis disc.
While mentioning it on the Sony forums at their web-site, someone brought up the fact that they remember seeing a PC version of said game bundled with Fruit Loops when the movie hit theaters. I did some reserach on Kellogg's web-site buy didn't turn up anything. I have emailed the company using Bris' pic as a reference to see if possibly they can shed any light on it.
The PSX Variant Page (http://www.game-rave.com/variant/index.html) had also been updated, thanks to RichD and PapStu helping out.

On future releases: Phoenix Games (the Euro guys behind RoboPit 2 and a couple other late releases) told me that no more of their games have planned US releases. Telegames (Rascal Racers, UBG, IS3) told me that Soccer Kid and Santa Claus have no firm US release date as of now, which I take to mean that "maybe they'll come out, maybe not." I'm still waiting to hear from EA, Take 2 (Gotham, Global Star), Mud Duck (Bethesda) and NewKidCo and Midas Interactive, which I'm pretty sure are the only potential sources of future US games.

Are Agetec, XS and Natsume releasing anymore, does anyone know? I picked up a few games from them in the last year and they seemed like pretty decent supporters.

Hey Kevin,
I printed up the list to scratch out my demos and such, and wanted to make sure you caught these from last time, since they weren't on the list:
PlayStation Picks Demo (Purple) - SPUS - 94951 (The original pack in demo)
PlayStation Demo Disc (Red, Unnumbered) SCUS - 94496
Squaresoft on PlayStation: Collector's CD - SCUS - 94256
And even though we just updated it, both Papastu's recent acquisitions and my third surprise variant with @%$% Tomb Raider II, along with other new variant pictures will be up by week's end.
No word from Kelloggs yet. :(

I have the SLUS you list for the red disc as Jampack Vol. 3. Does this sound right?
I had the purple listed, and have added the Squaresoft disc, thanks. I'll add in the disc variants that aren't already listed soon.
Good call on XS and Natsume, spooie. I'll email them and see what I can find out.
I picked up the 2 late release titles I wanted - Qix Neo and Ballerburg - this weekend. Good stuff. I don't know if anyone is interested, but I have good condition complete copies of Syndicate Wars and Power Rangers Zeo Pinball that I'm looking to sell or trade. I also picked up a great condition case and manual for Klonoa, so if your Klonoa is disc only, let me know. Klonoa sells for like 20 disc only and 45-50 complete on ebay, so if you sell particularly, it would be a sweet pickup.
Onward on the quest to finish all this developer info.

Speaking of Red demo discs... I have one called "Interactive DS Sampler Pack: Volume 3" with the SCUS-94959.
On the CD however, it reads like this...
SCUS-94959
__94959__
I didn't see it listed in the rarity guide, so I thought I would pass it along.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does it matter if the number is or isn't repeated direclty below?
For example... my Winter '98 Jampack has...
SCUS-94293
...listed.
But my Jampack vol 2 has...
SCUS-94176
__94176__
...listed.
And then there are the ones with different numbers, like Suikoden...
SLUS-00292
__17013__
Is there any significant reason why some have them and some don't, and some that have them have other numbers as well?
And on a side note... does anyone have any discs that are NOT black on the bottom? My Machine Hunter has a blue bottom. And, just so happens to have a 6-number SLUS code...
SLUS-00470
__115894__
Hope that's not all confusing everyone. @_@

If that Syndicate Wars is complete, im on that like white on Rice. I might want that Power Rangers too, cause the one I have, doesnt want to play on my PSOne, but its minty. Sooooo dont know what to say exactly. Maybe if i find another PSOne or try it on my PS2. So in other words hold on to both of those for me.
Ahhhh something that I can answer with little questioning, the numbers below the SLUS/SCUS# on a dics.
Welp from what ive seen on my games, there are a few types of numbers. EVERY SCUS pretty much that ive ever seen has had the same number repeated just below the SCUS minus the SCUS itself. I dont think that theres any real reason beyond their form of cataloging for that registered disc/title.
In regards to the SLUS#'d (all that Non-Sony stuff) there are numerous different manners that companies list things under the SLUS# itself. Most often when its just a number like the one you posted for Suikoden, that number correlates to the sales barcode that is on the rear insert. Its USUALY the numbers in the second big block (which is the item identifier for that companies product). Other times its a completely different number all together, take for examples:
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Iron & Blood: Warriors Of Ravenloft SLUS 00378 below SLUS# is #21077
Army Men 3D SLUS 00491 3DO below SLUS# is PCD-5014-151
Decent Maximum SLUS 00460 Interplay below SLUS# is CD-PSX-444-0
Civilization II SLUS 00792 Activision below SLUS# is 1000626.201.US
Well you get the point. There are all sorts of different ways that companies ID their games for the PSX besides the SLUS number. Some are weird, and sometimes the companies stop doing em too, after having done them on previous titles in the series. One thing that I have noticed is that NONE of the PS2 games have anything like that below the SLUS/SCUS# on the insert or even the discs themselves.
I got Alundra 6 in the mail today, and it had a new insert for me, but its the insert that Jason had posted that I didnt personally have, hopefully #7 will have Alundra fighting the Water monster that I know exists. I Bin'd 2 Lunar SSSC's today as well, leaving the most common cover and the Fan Edition that I still need to get. Are you SURE that theres 9 Alundra covers??? Im not seeing any new ones having now hit #7 "owned". Im gonna keep looking, but if there was some sort of pictured proof that you were given, or even told about when u put up the total at 9 in ur list, id love you for life.

Thanks for clearing that up PapaStu.
One more question, since you're the Working Designs Variant Whore... my copy of Silpheed: The Lost planet has SLUS 20085A listed. Does that mean there is an A-less, or B version out there somewhere?
:P
PapaStu
06-17-2004, 05:58 AM
My copy also has the "A" designation for it. Ive looked up numerous copies of Silpheed recently (being on this WD variant kick and all) and all of them have had the same cover, so maybe it was planned but not enacted upon by WD. I know GunGriffon Blaze (WD's other PS2 title) does not have number designation at all (that i've seen). In some cases for the PSOne stuff There was an just SLUS#, and then "B"[no "A"] (Elemental GB), and then SLUS A/B (Vanguard Bandits, RayCrisis) SLUS B/C [no "A" found so far] (Arc The Lad) and then Alundra had just an SLUS# as well as SLUS A-H. Im still hoping on some sort of response from Victor Ireland about all of this, but my hopes for a response arnt all that high as its been almost 2 weeks since his response to me in the first place.
But as my lists are starting to prove, that doesnt necessarily mean much of anything. I'll keep looking for copies of Silpheed and GunGriffon Blaze, to see if i can find something else, though I think that by the time WD got into the PS2 market, they were starting to feel the pressure financially and couldnt afford to release mutiple disc arts like they have done with the SegaCD, Saturn and PSOne games.

Papastu: From the horse's mouth: http://workingdesigns.com/updates/1999/08-1999.html.
The link doesn't work anymore, but it did when I started the list. www.needle.org/wd also is down, but you can see the google cache where he mentions the same thing.
spooie
06-17-2004, 07:47 AM
Actually the first link works fine. Just get rid of the period at the end.
So here's one for you... the Strider 2 (w/Strider) game has SLUS-01142 listed for Strider 2, and SLUS-01163 listed for Strider 1... but since all of the copies were misprinted with each other's covers, I guess they also have each other's number as well?
LOL
Okay... now another few random pointless observation (can you tell I've going through my PSX games last night?)...
Checking the SLUS number for Broken Helix, My copy has "SLUS-00289" on the instruction cover, and the same thing with a 'bullet' after it on the disc.
Checking the SLUS number for Pinobee, My copy has "SLUS-01494 and 17133" below on the instruction cover, but the 17133 isn't on the actual disc.
Checking the SLUS number for SpinJam, the case reads "SLUS-01250 and 01250" below. The instructions read "SLUS-01250 and 00000" below. And the actual disc reads "SLUS-01250" with nothing below.
Is THAT normal? O_O
And one more unless question... Now, assuming I haven't previously asked, if a game has a sticker on the cover... is that considered a variant compared to the one without it?
Thanks for responding.
Dangerboy
06-17-2004, 10:00 AM
Some of the numbers under / next to the SLUS are part numbers. Activision is the best example with it. They use a long string of numbers, with 201, 101, and one other to designate the CD, Manual, and Insert.
Most of the other companies do the UPC barcode number trick.
Kevin wrote "The SLUS Is listed as JamPack Volume 3"
After watching the intro though, it says "You've been chosen...." and acts like it's a 'thank you' for subscibing to the Underground, rather than a stand alone Jampack (It does show 'Issue 3' on a marquee ina fly by)...
Mreh. Just have to wait till I get the complete one. I'd go with your theory though.
Bad Sony, bad! No biscuit!
And one more unless question... Now, assuming I haven't previously asked, if a game has a sticker on the cover... is that considered a variant compared to the one without it?
If it is, then I fucking quit.

Kevin, thanks for the WD link. Too bad they took those disc art pics off long ago. Other thing is that there might be different front inserts now too. The one that they have posted there (along with the fighting water beast rear that I dont have yet) isnt the one that i remember seeing for ANY of my copies so far.
EDIT: Fuckers..... Click on the pic where alundra is fighting the Water Hydra, it loads the OTHER front insert, the one that I have for what im pretty sure is all the Alundra games that I own. GAH!!!! :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:

Answering these in posted fashion
Spooie: Man are you trying to kill us???? Id say not a Variant at all. Problem is in manufacturing process sometimes the stickers are added to the shrink wrap, and sometimes they are added to the case itself. They are almost never doing anything except touting the game and sometimes a review "9.5/10 EGM July 02". This in my mind doesnt detract from the "value" of the game. The only stickers that I can think of being necessary on any games lately is/are the Hot! New! ones for the DC cause those were the "fixed" versions of the game, that would actually work in a DC.
Dangerboy: ignore him ;) He's just trying to kill us
Jasoco: Those in theory are suppose to be on all the cases, because thats showing that the game is liscensed by its respective sports organization. Lots of the sports games dont have them because well, those games tended to get played the most and jewel cases get cracked and broken easy.
kevincure
06-17-2004, 04:53 PM
I wouldn't count stickers as a variation 1) because I don't think it's possible to discover all of them anyway and 2) they're very minor changes (such as the "EGM Silver!" kind of stickers that were mentioned above).
My bud collects screw count variations for NES, though, so you never know what people will be interested in.

Hey folks,
1. The Variant Page (http://www.game-rave.com/variant/index.html) has been updated thanks to the abbreviations Stu and Boy.
2. Kevin, do you need anymore lightspan numbers? I nabbed the teachers manuals and such, so if there's any useful info from those I'll post the finds.
3. Um, did anyone catch the Underground 2.4 variant? O_O I have one shiny and one non shiny, and the books inside are different. Do we have a head against wall moment coming or did I miss something? I have seen an auction with both of them in there.
4. I picked up my first complete variant collection....okay, so it was just the two CDs of RayCrisis, but still! I will become as cool as Stu yet LOL
And due to creative boredom, I have started creating the PSX equivalent of 'Shock Boxes'. In other words, custom slip covers for the OPM Demo Discs. Once I have another batch made, I'll post the pics. If anyne's interested in copies, I'll archive them if possible.

Hey DB,
I haven't seen the Underground 2.4 variant - post pictures if you have them!
As for LS numbers, I'll add them if you guys want them, but otherwise, I'll leave them off the list. The reason? SLUS/SCUS provide interesting information (they're sequential, for one) and are useful for separating out demo discs so we don't list the same title twice. There's no such benefit from the LS numbers. If you have them, though, I'll of course list them.

Don't know if it's documented, but i just saw 3 different versions of "Road Rash" on ebay. Since the main talk nowadays is variations, check them out:
- The longbox version:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8113819543&rd=1
- The jewel case version:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8113388285&rd=1
- The GH version:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8113717110&rd=1
What really made me curious is that the long box version shows a different logo (possibly the old EA logo), and the subtle differences on the jewel and GH.
Could they possible have different SLUS? What about different disc art? (i really hope not)

Some of my Alundra came in, and So has my ThunderForce V. I now have all 5 known insert variants for Alundra, and a second insert for ThunderForce V. My problem is that the disc i got (for ThunderForce V) has some nasty scratches on it, so if anyone can get a-hold of the "A" disc better known as the second disc on this cool page http://www.game-rave.com/variant/thunderforce.jpg I would gladly pay a nice hefty fee for it.
Other than that, there is little thats new for PSOne games for me.

I have something for the printing errors section of Dangerboy's variants page:
I just recently purchased Sheep at an EB Games. I noticed that on the back, there is small yellow triangle with a weird letter placement. The triangle reads:
"HEALTH WARNING: This Game Contains 100% Pure Artificial Stupidit"
That's not a typo, the y in "Stupidity" is missing. I found the y sandwiched between "HEALTH" and "WARNING."
My scanner isn't hooked up at the moment so unfortunately, I can't provide a picture of the error itself. I'm also curious about whether this error appeared on every copy of Sheep.
Anyways, I thought I would point that out. If this gets listed on the variants page, please note me as a contributor. Thanks.

First off, I have a few rarer PSX items for sale/trade: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37178 if you didn't see it in B&S.
Second, here's another set of developer data we need:
Baseball 2000 (Interplay)
Extreme Go-Kart Racing
Golden Nugget
Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy
Family Card Games Fun Pack
Future Cop LAPD
Gex
GTA Mission Pack London 1969 (codevelopers, I think?)
Gunship
Hellboy
High Heat 2002
Incredible Hulk: Pantheon Saga
Not too many. I'll post a new PDF of the list (in progress with developer data) in an hour or so. It credits major contributors at the top; if you think I've left you off by mistake, please let me know! I haven't noted all of the disc variations from Dangerboy and Papastu's site yet, and the data on publisher/genre/developer isn't fully fact-checked yet, so treat it as a work in progress! (it will be at http://people.bu.edu/cure/psxlist.pdf )
Once I have the publisher/dev data in and fully-checked, I'll add a ordered list of titles by SCUS/SLUS and a list of titles by publisher.
Last question: I listed "In the Hunt" as published by Kokopeli. I'm almost certain they're simply an imprint of THQ. Is this correct?
Peace,

I've heard back from nearly every late-release publisher. Here's what I can tell you: Fifa 05 and Madden 2005 are confirmed PS1 releases. Soccer Kid and Santa Claus are potentially still coming out. Aside from that, everyone else claims they are done with the PS1 in the US. There are still a couple of publishers I haven't heard from, but I think it's pretty safe to say that Madden 2005 will be the final commercial PS1 release in the US.
(Dangerboy, the final list once developer info is done will have similar lists at the back sorting games by genre and by publisher! Should make it very easy to find what you want, though the list will be almost 100 pages!)

Dangerboy, any news on NBA 2 Ball? Have you tried calling the Lakers PR office?
Lastly, a collecting note. I think I can say safely that the rarest future PSX game may very well be Easter Bunny's Big Day. The game sold, from 11/02-11/03 (it was a mid-03 release) only 104 copies. That's not a typo. I'm sure the print run was larger, but it can't have been much larger. As a comparison, the other late release PSX games have sold from 100000s (FF Origins, DB UB 22, Shrek Treasure) to a few thousand.

Oh...one more interesting fact. Why is EA releasing Madden and FIFA 05 on PS1? Apparently, they sold over one million copies all told from their 3-game PSX lineup last year. What the hell, who bought these other than those of us reading this thread :-)

Were those 3 triple-pak "Collectors Edition" games released last year? Cause me thinks if they were some mid level execs might have fudged numbers and said lookie we sold all these games (all be it as a lot of 3) but we sold 100k of them, so that must mean that we sold 300k games. What were the three PSOne releases that were released last year? That number seems kinda fishy to me that 3 units pushed over 300k apiece this late in the PSOne's life when other big stuff only pushed 100k (FF: Orgins)
My Fry's alone had 100+ copies of that damn Easter Bunny game and i didnt get one then, and cant seem to find em now... gotta love this hobby.
Thanks to an astute board member who's heard me bitch about Alundra, recently saw a new insert that I didnt have..... Were at 6 inserts and counting peoples. Dangerboy mentioned jokingly that there might have been an insert for each disc art, god I hope not. But then again this is Victor were talking about, anything seems possible now. Im down to one disc variant, and have NO clue as to what it looks like, boy is this going to be fun to find.

Well, the one supposed source never showed (and I never expected them to), and after failing to get anywhere on the Lakers side, it dawned on me to type in Staplescenter.com, and wham, instant email addresses abound. We'll see how that goes. I don't expect anything to come of it either though. =/

- Braind Dead 13
- Magic Carpet

How much should i pay for each of them (the biggest offer)? Should i get the whole lot?
I'm asking it because since the Rarity List is not finished, i don't want to pay higher than i'm supposed to.

Thanks for the info, DB. Oh, are you sure on Family Card Games Fun Pack? I'm pretty sure Midas doesn't develop their own games, but I could be wrong.
For those LB games, I'd pay 30 for Braindead 13 if I were you, no more than a couple bucks for the others. 10 for the sealed Defcon.
Hopefully I'll have L and M done in a day or two.

Hey Kevin, I flipped thorugh FCG's manual, watch the whole opening, and saw no other names other than Mad Duck and Midas. I'd e-mail Mad Duck and see fi they cough it up it, if it's someone else. :)
And for those keeping track, you can spot my geeky face on OPM Disc 83 under the Extras. :)

Update!
Variant page has been updated.
And I just spotted a variant for COmmand and Conquer: Red ALert. Emblazenon on the actual fron insert was something to the affect of "EGM Highest Rating!" or some sort. I would have bought it, but, to quote Papa, it was "nuked".

Also, I was up till about 2am last night making some progress on my own little secret project, specifically the back end pages and fun sections. If all goes well, I should be at about the 25% to goal mark for unvieling it for public use by the end of this week. Yay.

I checked my copy of Sheep and it had the same snafu on it, so your most likely right about all the copies having it, as it was a most likely had a single print run.
People might be glad to hear that I now have fresh pictures of 8 Alundra discs together, as well as 6 inserts. They will be delivered to Dangerboy tomorrow. Its looking that there might only be the 6 inserts because of the numbering on the PSRM thing for the inserts goes from 40-45. I've currently got no gaps showing in those insert numbers which is allways a good thing and isnt leaving me searching for some random numbers in the middle of the block.
BTW If anyone has Alundra SLUS 00553F Id love to get this beast over with and out of the way.

Man, sports games are the worst for getting developers. Sorry for the more lengthy than usual list for section N and O. For the EA games, the goal is to figure out which internal division was responsible (Black Box, Tiburon, EA Canada, etc.):
NASCAR Rumble
NBA Hang Time
NBA Jam Extreme
NBA Live 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003
NBA Shootout
NBA Shootout 2000
NBA Shootout 97
NBA Shootout 98
NCAA Final Four 99
NCAA Football 2001
NCAA Gamebreaker 98
NCAA Gamebreaker 99
NCAA March Madness 98
NCAA March Madness 99
Need for Speed
Need for Speed II
Need for Speed III
NFL Full Contact
NFL GameDay
NFL Xtreme
NFL Xtreme 2
NHL 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001
NHL Faceoff 98
NHL Faceoff 99
NHL Faceoff 2000
NHL Rock the Rink
Norse by Norsewest
Novastorm
Nuclear Strike (Granite Bay is responsible for the series, but did they develop this particular game?)
Off World Interceptor Extreme
Olympic Soccer
Olympic Summer Games
One Piece Mansion
OK, this will be the longest request list, no question. Thanks again for your help, guys. 485 titles to go, and I've got about 100 of those almost confirmed, then it's once more proof on publisher, year and genre, then update prices, then add newest variant notes, then *whew*, done.
It's stunning how inaccurate game info on the net is, too. Even Sony, ign and Gamestop have the wrong publisher listed on occasion. Ridiculous.

Oh, I should move the SLUS numbers still needed to the front:
SLUS:
Legacy of Kain: Demo CD
OPM 2, 13, 32, 33, 34, 41, 42, 46
Another interesting note: NFL GameDay 2005 is a *confirmed* PSone release. This means 3 more, minimum, PS releases forthcoming. Also, Neopets might be back from the dead?

- Yet compliments us and gives us the 'one for the gipper' speech.

See now I thought that they were giving GameDay the break for the season to allow for extra development along with all the Fall 989 games due to their continued craptacularness (much like the Microsoft benching of half of its XSN sports line). And Neo-Pets is making that step backwards why? They wanted a PS2 version cause it could support more pets and features I thought...... unless they are gonna do both for market saturation. Oh well whats 4 $29 dollar games to us gamers. Bring it on I say. Maybe if you leak that SCEA is doing more games to Telegames, it will be the push they need to release those completed games that they are sitting on.

So i bitch about needing to get this bunny game, and finally get it. Had to deal most likely with the seller inflating the bid cause someone just pushed out my old bid 2 hours before the end of auction, and the person who did it, only bought Ultima Online shit, Oh well. Whatever, ive got it. So im entering it into my database today, and with it sitting next to the other 2 PSOne games that ive got it looks amazingly different. The spines on my Easter Bunny's Big Day are a purpley blue (almost the GCN Indigo color) instead of black.....
/me marks another print error/variant to the list.

Skeleton Warriors and Wargames are reaching that uncommon stage. I haven't seen Wargames around here in the Midwest, but Skeleton Warriors still pops up occasionally.
Also of Guide List note. A conversation on gamefaqs has turned up an intresting new variant for Final Fantasy VII Non GH. Apparently at one point the ESRB Descriptions got changes in the back end descriptions. Keep your eyes out.

Okie time for head scratcher in regards to R/C Stunt Chopper.
On the Disc: (at least mine) there is/are logos for Titus (above the others), Shiny and Interplay(next to each other)
On the cover: Its showing Shiny
In the manual: its saying that Big Grub developed this, and it looks like (though its not saying) that Interplay published it because they have a registration card in the manual, as well as 4 pages on what you need to do when you contact Interact's tech support and wher you need to send defective discs and the like. It then talks about the Interact website.
Hidden in the little text on the back of the case is "Distributed exclusively by Interplay Productions"
Ill looksee to check some of the rest of the list a little later today, since im home for the forseeable next few days.

Okay...the time has come to get started on getting some real pages up on my little project. :help:
I have deciced to let my fellow PSX heads here at DP decide the fate of the first true update which will add game pages to the web-site, which was it's main function.
I have decided that the utmost important 1 is Alundra, an ode to Stu's insane work and determination.
That said, I need ten other games to work on for the update.
Post your top 10 choices* for stuff you'd like to see. The game pages will include trivia, pictures, etc.
