Jesus God damn christ....this thread was at the proverbial bottom of the pile...posting just to get it back to where I can find it.

I have some relatively small, miniscule updates to post for the variant page when I get to it, and hopefully tomorrow i can get some motivation back into the perfect guide html work i need to do.

In a couple of days GameDay 2005 PSX comes out.

Be afraid.

The final 3 strikes to the PlayStation legacy are on their way.

Does anyone have any info on an old Psygnosis psx game called Parasite? The only mentionings of this game on the web or in groups are from around 1995 - 1996 so I guess it was cancelled. Dont know if it's mentioned in the rarity guide since it's down.

Screenshots can be found here. (http://www.vidgames.com/ps/software/parasit.html)

Cancelled for unknown reasons.

Shit GameDay is out in 3 days...... Better get out somewhere and pre-order one. Or is it even still possible to pre-order it this close to launch for a PSOne game that no ones gonna care about.

P.S. Don't forget to add the newer Thunder Force V pics to the variant lists. I can send em to you again if needed.

Parasite was cancelled. There are dozens of games with demos/promos/prototypes for the PSX that were never released, but I'm not aware of a released proto for this one.

Papastu, I don't think the copies will fly away fast enough to need a preorder :-)

PapaStu
08-08-2004, 12:42 PM
Fast enough to need a preorder no, BUT to be able to even get a copy is what i'm worried about.

EA I know has gone to the policy of making only the games ordered in an attempt to try and curbe the massive overstock of their games that arnt going to sell a month down the road trying to prevent their titles sitting on the shelves in counts of 10-20 for every store in the country. Im just not too sure about what SCEA is going to be doing with GameDay as ive still not heard anything about the game itself, so thats what makes me wonder/get worried.

At the local big GameStop today I found a Black digital controller that was Sony Branded. I thought that they didnt make different colored controlers until the Dual Shock stuff came out. Its not a flat black though like the Net Yaroze. It was only 4 bucks so I brought it home. Any clue as to what it is/was for?

Dangerboy

Might have been a store exclusive. I remember Target having an exclusive Red Standard controller.

Okay guys, I'm itching to get some reviews done for the PlayStation guide, and right now I'm trying to iron out the detaills for them. Below are the notes I jotted down (untouched/non-spellchecked) The first set of notes are for the written reviews themselves. The number sheet is my concept for the actual final 'score' of the game. Rather than 10 out of 10 or 3 out of 4 stars, etc, I went with a verbal comment. Any suggesttions / better phrases for the list would be appreciated. 10 is best, 1 is worst. :)

Thanks!
Jason

=-=-=-=-- NOTES =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Reviews should be about one page in length. Okay to go on longer/shorter. Single spaced. Arial font.

They should be as accurate and specific as possible. In other words, none of this “OHMYGOD THIS SUXORS LOLLERS” and stuff. :)

Touch on everything: Graphics, sound, playability, etc.
Interesting aspect: we are at the end of the playstation’s life cycle. Use this to a review’s advantage. You can bring in comparison’s to newer versions (Say, piting the original Twisted Metal against TM Black) and more. Have they stood the test of time, do the originals clobber the newer versions, etc.

10. Perfect
9. Commanding
8. Beautiful
7. Eye Catcher
6. A Good Time
5. Not Too Shabby
4. Time Waster
3. Bargin Bin Fodder
2. Almost Worthless
1.Worthless

Also looking for feature type articles. More on this later.

Speaking about variants: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8126463194&rd=1.

Yup. Spider: the Video Game was published by both Take 2 and BMG, with different covers. If someone could post the SLUS for either one, I would assume that they both have different numbers, and I'll add them to the list.

(Goes back to looking up developer after developer...)

PapaStu

I've never seen that cover of spiders before. Interesting. I know where there are a few copies of the non Take2 Spiders, i'll see about swinging by there tomorrow if ive got the time. <puts watch reminder on auction>

Speaking of variants, I got this from mb7241 a few days ago. Hunt away!!!!

I noted in your sig you say you're the "Working Designs Variant Whore", and I have clicked on the link and seen the webpage. I noted there's one minor variant you're missing. It involves the UPC code on Legend of Mana (PS1). The earliest of those produced (possibly as few as 10,000-20,000) have a UPC number of 6-62248-90006-3, whereas the remainder of those produced all have a UPC number of 0-97852-15288-9. In case you're wondering which I have, it's the earlier one... Just thought I'd let you know of this unusual variant.

Kinda funny, but as I was looking over my Debug that came home from CGE (thanks Danny, I owe you one) i found out that it came from Interplay of all places (it has a little inventory sticker on it). A fire sale item that moved when they started to sell off the company???

And im sure that you all know about my 1 second remaining loss to BuyAtari for the 10,000,000 unit PlayStation. I tried, and my attack bid of 1352.00 was just waiting on submit when it showed up in refresh with no time to react. Ah well like Kristine said, there will be another one that shows up eventually. I will try again.

@ Dangerboy: I'll start working on the expanded intro that I wrote for DP:Advanced and get you the pics of the Debug in the next day or two. Reviews will also be started upon as well. And mentioning my Controller, ive also got 8 different PSOne memory cards (different colors, we should try to mark those down for posterity reasons as well I should think). Does anyone know where to get the bit to open one, so I can make sure that they are all legit, as ive bought a pirated card before, that was VERY close to the real thing, except for some errors in trademark info on the packaging, and the different circuitboard and ram chip (Non-Sony).

One *more* variant: A Superstar Dance Club / Dance Mat bundle. I believe it's a Walmart exclusive, but you can see it in the third picture at the bottom http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8123375245&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW here.

OK, here are the titles for which I still need developers. I bought a couple that were on the list and got the developers myself, so I've removed some of the N-O's:
NFL Full Contact
NFL GameDay
NFL Xtreme
NFL Xtreme 2

NHL Faceoff 98
NHL Faceoff 99

Reboot
Rescue Copter
Rise 2 Resurrection
Robotron X
Sammy Sosa Softball Slam
Sesame Street Sports
Shanghai True Valor

I'll trade you some PS1 reviews for some developer names, Jason :-). Oh...can you look up the SLUS and Developer on Gameday 05 also?

Papastu: do you think you could send a couple photos of the dev kit along to me as well? kevincure AT yahoo DOT com. Thanks man.

I think I'll be all the way through to Z by Thursday, whew. Done at last, hehe.

Whewwwwwwwww, done. OK, I've got all the data I can get from the internet and my own collection. I'm currently triple checking all the publisher/developer info and release date info to ensure its accuracy - I should be done that work by tomorrow. I'm emailing my guys at EA and Konami to get exact development house data. Once I hear back from them, I'll post a (hopefully) complete version of the psx list.

That said, I still need some help. Here's the list of games for which I need developer info:

Just wondering, but I have a few Jewel case games, non greatest hits that used to be longboxes that aren't on the website (And I've seen quite a few more as well) Do you need pictures?

I have... Loaded, Warhawk, Battle Arena Toshinden (Not for Resale) and Geom Cube

I've seen, Tekken, Ridge Racer, Gex and Resident Evil

kevincure

If you can find pictures of Tekken or Ridge Racer in non-GH, standard jewel cases, please throw a post up. I'll note Loaded on the list since you mentioned you owned it. The other titles you listed are already on the list.

Thanks man!

sharc: Yup, G Artist was who I thought did the game, but I'd been unable to confirm it. Thanks man!

Do you believe this...just went to EB.com to make sure I'd be getting my pre-order of satan's rereelase, and what pops up on the screen:

"The product you requested is currently not available. It may be out of stock, no longer available or we may be performing site maintenance, making it temporarily not available. If you think you reached this page in error, please try again later or contact us and let us know."

Unless it's because they are changing the one line to "Available and in Stock" instead of "Shipping 8/31/04" I am going to tear someone's lung out.

We'll see if it comes in today.

Besides the corporate um...'guests'.

damn this was hiding so bumpidy bump bump back to the top.

I know that Dangerboy got his DBGT: Final Bout a few days back, but mine just showed in the mail today from eb.com . Those cheap Atari bastards... I said that they just re-released the game purely for money, and got all these people saying different. I know that Jason said that when playing this masterpiece that it still shows BanDai in the opening screens of the game. Just by looking at this thing I also noticed that they didnt even issue a new SLUS# keeping its old SLUS 00493 (but when Take 2 took over those Disney games, those got new SLUS#'s among others that changed SLUS numbers for whatever reason). In looking closer at the fine print on the back insert, it now has a 2004 copyright from Bird Studio/Shueisha/Toei Animation. However when you look a little farther down Atari is still kind enough to give BanDai developer credits and copyright the game 1997.

Fired up my debug tonight, and played a few minutes of my Qbert Beta, playing v 22 dated 8/5/99. So yeah; that was a new experience in torture and I wonder why W. Jayson Hill Manager of PR for Hasbro even sent this thing out (his business card in the back side of the jewel case i got with the game). Its one bonus was that when I hit start in the middle of a level I automatically beat it and saw some sort of congrats screen for all my hard work. w00t bonus.

No other new fronts on the PS realm.

For Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi...

Everything in the packaging and ingame credits point at Lucasarts doing this game themselves. No "Adaptation" or "Localization" credits are listed, and the programming team seems to be an american one from the names

... and given the quality of the game, it wouldn't surprise me if they did it themselves x_x

Lookin' nice Dangerboy.

I'm proofing everything on my list, and I've come across a few *more* variations. There are a bunch of Square Enix / Squaresoft publisher variants for various Square GH releases, but more interestingly:

Croc GH published by both Ubisoft and Fox Interactive

"Canadian" version of Formula 1 99 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8128489733&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW ) with different cover art and canadian flag. I'd imagine this is comparable in rarity to Fifa 98 Rumbo.

OK, back to the grind. I'm hoping to have an edited list up in the next couple of days. After that, I'll just need those remaining developers that we still don't have (from one page back) and a couple of demo SLUS numbers. Once those are in, I'll put together a better looking graphical version of the pdf that'll be pretty slick.

Yeah it came in a few days ago. I'd call your store and ask if it's in...if it was an EB, the prompt screen where it shows what pre-orders are coming in was most liley mistaken for a PS2 version. I know I did the same thing until I opened the shipping crate and was like, "Whaaa?"

Still haven't picked it up yet , though.

Its not a flat black though like the Net Yaroze. It was only 4 bucks so I brought it home. Any clue as to what it is/was for?

When I worked for Toys R Us we carried the pre-dual-shock controller in "traditional" gray, smoke gray, black, white (like wet liquid paper it was so white) and a TRU exclusive flourescent red solid. I have the display shells that the controllers sat on in the old display cases and the signs that snapped on the back (among other things I took :) ).

NEW LIST UPDATE!

Nearly done the new massive update. The list now includes publisher, developer, slus, price, rarity, longbox, ce, gh, variant info, genre for normal releases, as well as demos, lightspan, and boxset lists. In addition, I've got data lists in there of games organized by genre, slus # and publisher, for your reference. The prices and rarities have also been updated.

I think we're getting to the point where we can begin to make rarity judgments on late release titles. I've moved the following titles to ER:
Ballistic
Blockids
Creatures Raised in Space
Easter Bunny's Big Day
Hugo The Evil Mirror
Ultimate Brain Games
XS Airboat Racing

I'm sure a few more will be considered "very rare" in the future, but the data isn't yet there to say for sure.

This will be the 2nd to last "update" version of this list. It appears that the final PSX game in the US will be FIFA Soccer 2005 in mid-October. Once that comes out, the final version of the list will be posted. That said, everything in this list has been treble-checked. If you see any errors, PLEASE let me know.

That said, I need a little more data. We still need developer information for the a few games (posted higher up in this thread); I believe there are less than 40 without info. We also need SLUS data for:
Legacy of Kain: Demo CD
OPM 2, 13, 32, 33, 34, 41, 42, 46 (place CD in computer to get this)
NFL Gameday 2005
Madden NFL 2005
FIFA Soccer 2005

Lastly, I've got some interesting Lightspan info that needs to be cleared up. From the seller of the $1000 Lightspan auction on Ebay right now, I've received pictures of Lightspan PSX titles that I hadn't seen on any other lists. These are "16 Tales" (we only know of a Disc 3 but there are probably others), "Head to Toe" (1-4), Every Child Can Succeed (1- at least 7), Write Away (1- at least 10). If anyone has any more info on this, it's much needed.

Other than that, I think we've got everything. http://people.bu.edu/cure/psxlist.pdf . It's around 600k, 83pages.

The PlayStation Variant page has been updated with 15 new images!
I'm starting to archive the long box vs jewel case variants. They are located near the bottom of the page.

http://www.game-rave.com/variant/index.html

There's also a small little note: If you see the CDs outside their respective cases, it means there was a variant within the disc (ie Skeleton Warriors' color, etc) to watch out for when looking for the variant.

Couple notes...

Donde esta the Debug unit? :P

Slam & Jam 96 not 98.

I thought that my Romance IV was in a double jewel case, not single. I'll double check when I get home tonight. Im probably on crack, but ya never know.

Thought that Twisted Metal came in a "Ridged" Longbox as well.

I'll get pics of my newly discovered Rayman variant, and all the Lunar SSSC picks for you tonight and Warhawk's longbox variant.

Dangerboy

Suikoden came in a double jewel case with really shitty artwork while the manual had the original Japanese artwork. It's possible one of you has a single jewel case with just the manual and back Double JC insert, thus making it look different. Happens a lot for some reason with the double JCs.

Haha, so other people have done that with Suikoden? That's exactly what my boyfriend did because he just couldn't stand the cast artwork. Only problem is now we have two copies and we want to sell that one, but we can't find the original double case... :/ I imagine it would make a significant difference in price, right?

I have the double jewel case, so he probally has the single case. I'll still check it out though just in case.

Yes, it's still up, at the http://people.bu.edu/cure/psxlist3.pdf address I'd posted a few posts ago. I change the name of the file because I don't really want non-DP links pointing to the file (at least not until the list is complete).

Been busy on ebay and have been discovering a lot of variants...
Bases Loaded Variant Long box, NFL Gameday and NHL Faceoff Long box variant, Hi-Octane jewel case(?!) and more...

That said, today marks the official one week countdown to the end of the PlayStation. 7 days till Fifa 2005 comes out.

Doh.

Really should have happened a year ago, but I suspect Sony was trying their hardest to give it a full ten years of support. Hell, nine is remarkable enough -- why push it?

Well, only *one* of the 11 titles released in 2004 was a Sony first-party release. In Europe, the ratio of late third-party - late first-party was even bigger. I mentioned the sales of EA's 2003 PSX releases earlier in this thread - ~ 1million copies in the US sold for Nascar Thunder, Fifa 04 and Madden 04 combined, so the demand is still there.

If anyone DOES get FIFA 2005, please post a pic of the front and back of it. I'd love to see this last PlayStation release, cause I know no one is going to have it around me. As it was, the only store that had Madden 2005 was Toys R Us.

Wow.

So the Playstation 32-Bit system has officially been retired by Sony? Does that also count for the "PSOne"?

GunPanther: Sony is still selling PSones, and games are still forthcoming in a number of markets, but yesterday marked the release of the very last Playstation 1 game in the United States.

Boos: I'm pretty sure Underground 5.1 is a PS2 demo disc. Let me know if I'm wrong.

September 9, 1995 - October 13, 2004. Not a bad run, huh? 9 years, 1 month from first game to last. 1274 games (by my reckoning) plus nearly 100 Lightspan educational titles and hundreds of demo discs. I have the total value of game releases, if you wanted a full set, at $8200 + ~ $500 for a Lightspan set. 4 separate US case models (Playstation, PSone, Yaroze, 10 Million). A Euro release list slightly longer than the US, and a Japanese total of nearly 3000 titles. Over 100 million systems sold worldwide, officially sold in 6 different markets (US, Jap, Eur, Aust, East Asia, India/ME). Just shy of one billion pieces of software sold worldwide - and many more if you count the huge amount of bootlegging in Russia, East Asia and Latin America.

Now that, my friends, is a system. Well played.

I don't know about you, but I've always loved jewel cases over DVD cases and cardboard boxes. When you see that shiny new case, with that crisp black and full color manual protected underneath, you just want to tear into a game.

And I do have the 5.1 demo. It's a PS2 DVD, hence why it's not listed in the PSX Page.

Hmm..laundry.

Yeah, that looks very good for being on a ancient system. :)

Actually, FIFA is a good soccer game. Not quite as good as Konami's Winning Eleven series, but fun.

Kevin : Yes its a PS2 DVD but the reason i mentioned it was cause there was NO acknowlegment of it's existance in Dangerboys Perfect guide....so i wasn't sure if you guys knew about it...

there was a believe recently that PSUCDM ended at 4.4....

So sorry if i confused anybody...

keep up the good work

By the way ...this site's resources are enourmous ...i'm having a hard time finding things...is there by any chance a PS2 released games/demos thread???

can anyone post a link.

Regards Peter

I don't know of any threads like that yet. There's really no sense talking about rarity on PS2 games this early in the game - we're still only just getting a handle on PS1 rarity!
