Well, no thread has been made for this yet, so I'll make one.

At EZ Pawn:
Suikoden IV (game + box)
Silent Hill 2 (PS2, Game + box)
Romancing Saga (Game + box)
$5 each.

Drakengard (disc only) - $2

At Goodwill:

Space Invaders (SNES, SEALED) - $1.99
The weird this is that they had 11 more copies of this sealed for the same price. If anyone wants me to pick them up one for cost + shipping let me know.

Halo: The Cole Protocol
Starcraft(N64)

The books I got at Borders because none of the Barnes and Nobles around here had any of the newest Halo novel. And the Starcraft game was found in a video game store I frequent. They've had them before but never so reasonably priced so I snatced it up.

I was going stir crazy in my home (having no job sucks!), so I decided to go to some of the thrifts in town.

My first stop was Value Village. I browsed through their games/software section, and hanging on one of the hooks was a copy of Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD). What was amazing about this find was A) the disc was actually still in the case, and B) even though it was out in plain sight, nobody had bought it yet! Oh, and best of all, it only cost me $2.99 (plus tax)! I already have a copy of Lunar: TSS, but I figured this second one would be good as trade bait, especially since I don't really have much money for games right now. The games complete, but it's pretty beat up. I don't have a way to test it, because my Sega CD is toast. However, my Macbook can read the disc, and the audio tracks on seem to work too. I might try ripping the disc and then test it using Kega Fusion.

I went to a couple of other thrifts, but none of them had anything good.

Also, I picked up a couple of other things late last week that I forgot to post:

Pac-man Plush for 50 cents

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Game Gear) for 5 bucks.

Replace it? Seriously, not likely you can fix the drive, just try to find another dead unit or order a drive. Given what you paid for that, even a drive would still put you under par.

I found Evil Dead: Regeneration for $10. The local game outlet had it for $17 for some time, they finally marked it down.

Yesterday (the 1st), at some random thrift store in Murphy, NC:

Out Run (SMS, complete), Great Golf (SMS, box + cart), Rocky (SMS, complete) - 10¢ each (...seriously...wtf?).

Wii component cables (sealed in a plastic bag...I dunno if they're supposed to be that way, or if they were just sealed like that by the store) - 50¢.

Xbox 360 AV cables (another very odd find...and they don't look like they've been used, either) - 50¢.

Hoffman Solingen black briefcase (evidently made to hold a set of knives, but will serve me well as a laptop case for my 17" HP Pavilion dv7 Series) - $8 (kinda high, but I really wanted it).

Laser PC5 computer (w/case, manuals, and rechargeable battery, but no charger or cartridges) - $4.

Not a bad day, but I had to borrow a bit from my dad...I only had $10 on me :P .

I've never had one that I couldn't get working again.

Start here-

http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Samsung_DVD_Complete_Disassembly.htm

Then clean like this-

http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/cleaning_your_dvd_drive.htm

I've had a couple that I couldn't get working perfect (thomson drives) but I haven't had one that I couldn't get to at least work at all. Ive done this to the Thomson drives, the Phillips drives, and the Samsung drives. The Samsungs seemed to work the best on the ones I've done. It costs as much as just buying a used xbox to buy a new drive.

Good luck!

I'll probably use this as a replacement to a buyer who didn't like the condition of the item I sold her. (In her defense, I listed the item with the wrong description. I just wish she hadn't threatened me with a negative from the start.)

King's Quest Collection Series:
Box is trashed, but the discs are mint and the book's all there, too. $5 after a $2 discount because I helped the booth owner set up some tables as a favor. I generally chat with her about random stuff, and saw that the guy who usually helps her didn't come in to work, so I gave her a hand. I was about to leave when I saw this box peek out from a hidden corner, and now it's mine.

I've never played the King's Quest games. Are they any good?

Today I stopped by Hastings and picked up:
Donkey Kong figure (out of a series of 5 Nintendo figures I only needed this and the Toad, still missing, to complete the set) - $8
Nintendo Power 20th Anniversary Special (a collection of tidbits about the 20th anniversary) - $10

Also, in the mail I got:
Game & Watch Collection (DS) - finally had enough points to cash in at Club.Nintendo last week

Today I got a complete NEVER BEEN OPENED Model 2 Genesis, it still has the original price sticker in the corner and I did carefully open it to verify that yes, infact, it has never been used.

The outer box is in I guess I'd say A- condition, while almost flawless there are 1 or 2 small nicks in it, but nothing that actually is noticable to any great degree.

What I paid? Nothing.

A long search finally ended yesterday. While most kids that had them cut their teeth on Commodores, TRS-80s and the like, I spent my computing time back then in front of a Tomy Tutor. (and of course Apple II's in school) I've always loved the Tomy Tutor especially for the games on the platform. However I've also always been unable to expand my collection beyond the three cartridges I've had since all those years ago. You never find this stuff in the wild, it just doesn't happen. So longer story short, a big lot was up for auction and it turns out it was a DP member selling off most of their stuff before moving.

With only ten games for the system released in the USA you'd think I would have acquired more by now. With the arrival of this package, I now have the entire USA cartridge library, as every game released was included in the package. It only took 25 years.

Works great and I spent most of last night playing the games, nice that it has native composite video and audio output - or the good old RF. The computer, Joy Controllers, Jungler, Loco-Motion and Traffic Jam cartridges are all duplicates so I'll more than likely be putting them up for sale here as a lot soon. (or for trade for Japanese Pyuuta stuff)

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-04-02(02).jpg

Now that I have them all I can continue to expand my Tomy Tutor column at RTM. Honestly I felt like a kid in a candy store when I was unpacking the cartridges - awesome to finally have them all.

I found a Nuby Street Fighter PS2 controller for $5 at the local used game outlet. I have a USB adaptor for PC and my stock PS1 controller is good f rmost games but not Sega emulation.

Checked on Amazon. Most Nuby SF2 PS2 controlelrs would cost me about $15 plus shipping, except for mine. No, I got the Akuma controller, which Amazon's ripoff artists want $40 for.

Very nice InsaneDavid. I can't really find any info or pictures on the games but it looks like it has some nice arcade classics like Pooyan and Scramble. You should make some of videos of the gameplay. I'd be interested in seeing the games. I can't currently find any one youtube.

Damn, dude! That's a hell of a sweet buy! I've always wanted a Tomy Tutor, but I've never seen one in person before. I only found one game back in the day, at some home computer store in 1984 or 1985 that was clearancing out their dead stock. I wanted to buy it because I thought it was a TI-99/4A game, and the sales guy who was watching me rummage through their junk box said, "Wow, you have a Tomy Tutor?" I put the game down, disappointed that I couldn't play Scramble on my TI Home Computer. Then years later, researching the Tutor online showed it to be strangely related to the TI-99/4A, since techology-wise it was pretty similar to TI's cancelled TI-99/8 computer. I've always wanted to get my hands on one, but since I don't do eBay, it's pretty much impossible.

You have got to put some gameplay videos up on YouTube!

All I found today was Hotel Mario, Mad Dog McCree, and International Tennis Open for the Philips CD-i, $1.19 each. I also picked up a lighted USB printer cable for $5.19.

I couldn't find any charged batteries for my high tech 2 megapixel camera, so you'll have to close your eyes to imagine this find.

I went to value village today for my find of the year, so far.

I found a loose but working Gameboy Advance SP2 for $.80. It's really strange, because they had 1st generation GB's for $10 behind a glass counter. It's even stranger because I found a loose original GB for $.60 last year. I found the SP on a peg hook near the back of the store, where they hang their Bag's O' Crap. It had a big KSwiss sticker on it, which I removed with goo-gone. So I went to Play and Trade where I overpaid for an AC adapter ($10), and a GBA Gradius game for $5.

Also today I found five nintendo sleeves for $2, and a TG-16 World Class Baseball game - CIB for $2.10. Good overall day, for finds.

I enjoyed them. Also have the collection series. I prefer Space Quest, though.

A friend of mine bought a complete copy of Space Quest (Not sure which one but it came with 3D glasses) for some insane amount a while back.

I thought I struck gold a week or so ago when I picked up mint big boxed copies of King's Quest IV, King's Quest VI, and The Black Cauldron for 2 bucks a piece at a thrift. I was pretty surprised to see that they aren't worth all that much.

The Quest for Glory collection seems to be worth quite a bit these days.

Anyway I found this at the thrifts yesterday for $2 (Sorry my cat won't leave me alone when I'm taking pictures :)). Does anyone remember this game?

Today I went to my first garage sale of the season (I guess it was more of a moving sale, though), and was not disappointed. It helped that the one we went to had playstation and "ninetendo" stuff listed in its CL ad. They also had Lego stuff listed. I'll get to that in a minute. We got there at 10 to nine (ad said 9am start) and there were cars lining the street on both sides already. It was definitely a lot more people than I expected, but it is early in the season and there aren't a lot of sales yet, so that concentrates people.

Most of the sale was inside the house, and it was a total feeding frenzy on the Lego stuff. These people easily had 5-10 grand worth of lego sets, mostly Star Wars. We're talking the big death star, star destroyers, millennium falcon, tie interceptor, y-wing, and new star wars vehicles that I don't know the names of. That's just the big stuff! There were tons and tons of smaller and medium things as well. I might have looked for some lego stuff since I really like them, but it was all in a kind of small corner by the kitchen, and the whole scene was just mad. I think a lot was priced decently (for the seller I mean... $40 for the y-wing comes to mind, $40 for a med-large Falcon), but some stuff wasn't priced at all. Mix in the clear professionals that had tubs of legos and more stacked on top, and yeah, total chaos.

Fortunately the games appeared untouched (I surveyed the lego scene after dealing w/ the games). There was a sign that said video games were 2 bucks each, so I picked out what's in the pic (list below). Well, first I asked how much for the nice boxed NES Action Set. She wanted $75 for all the NES stuff (what I got plus ~5 more games and the boxed system: games I left were the likes of Cabal, Top Gun, etc). I didn't have that much with me, and it seemed a bit high, so I just cherry picked this stuff. There was one of those holders for controllers/zapper & games, and it had a huge stack of manuals... mostly for SNES and N64. Unfortunately those systems/games weren't anywhere to be seen :(. Earlier in the week they had had their phone number on the ad (it was removed later), so I wonder if someone didn't make a deal on those ahead of time. I just can't bring myself to be 'that guy', though, so I lose on stuff like that now and again. I picked those manuals out and handed them to her and explained that they didn't go with this stuff... she seemed grateful, but she was so swamped it might have just been the lull right then and I was trying to be helpful.

Oh yeah, after we tallied up the stuff to 35, I asked how much for the PS2, and she said, "I don't even care anymore, 20 bucks". Mind you, it was only like 9.05am. Yeah, it was that crazy, I don't blame her for being frazzled. I'd forgotten to check the disc games for actual discs, but when I got home I was happy to find an 8MB memory card in the SW Legos case (and all discs accounted for and in nice+ shape)! Love little bonuses like that.

Probably the coolest thing I came away with is that Zelda Tips & Tactics book. I didn't think much of it at the time, bud hadn't seen it before. Pretty cool now that I flip through it, and looks like it is not real easy to find. Kind of funny, on the inside back cover is some art depicting Link loaded down with all his gear on his back: raft, ladder, bow/arrows, boomerang, shield, sword, bracelet, potion, bomb, wand, flute, key on a string around his neck, map book tucked in vest... am I missing anything? The funny part is he is standing upright like he's out for a casual stroll.

NES: SMB2 & 3, Dr. Mario, Tetris, Zelda x2, Zelda 2 (classic), DK 3, Mario Bros. Boxed advantage was $5
PS1: Galaga, Dark Forces
GC SW Rogue Squadron III and a CIB N64 Mem Exp Pak
Fallout 1 & 2 were at a thrift on the way home. (just checked ebay: Holy Shnikeys, I didn't know CIB copies were so nuts (http://cgi.ebay.com/Boxed-Fallout-by-Interplay-for-the-PC_W0QQitemZ250396022894QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_G ames_Games?hash=item250396022894&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A13|39%3A1|240%3A1318). Don't think just a disc is too special unfortunately.

We also passed a church rummage sale on the way home and stopped. It was on its 3rd day, so I wasn't expecting to find anything. But then there was this SMS lot for 10 bucks. Didn't know the Gen games or card game were in there till I got home. Anyone need a PS1 Road Rash 3-D manual? Volume 5 Sampler?

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/finds150.jpg

SMS w/ 3 control sticks (1 busted), regular controller, phaser, games: F16 card, After Burner, Mono Poly, Gangster Town, Altered Beast, Great Baseball, Choplifter, Out Run, Great Basketball, Zaxxon 3-D, Rambo.
Gen: Shadow of the Beast, WWF Royal Rumble
Hunt for Red October was in the box too, they just threw some other stuff that wasn't selling in there I think.

How's that for a wall of text! Anyway, not a bad kickoff to the garage sale season.

I got a brand new Tyco Power Plug thing for the Genesis for cheap. It's got a dent in the front but is otherwise in great shape.

It's up for trade if anyone's interested.

I've stopped hunting out yard sales of any kind. Around here it's used clothes and old books. IF I find video games it's PS2 sports games at $15 each.

Yeha, I know, not looking ruins the chance but when I do look it's never anything good.

My mom is always on the lookout for games for me and she's a real yard sale nut.
Today is one of the first times in almost a year she's found anything game related. Today was good.
She found:
Final Fantasy VII GH
Resident Evil 2
Tony Hawk Pro Skater
Syphon Filter 2
Tetris Plus GH
Chessmaster 6000 (PC)

The guy selling said it was all buy 1 get 1 free.
Everything added up to about $4 divided by 2.
Not bad I'd say. :-D

Decent day, I guess.

Commando (NES)- $1
Goldeneye 007- $4
Babe on LaserDisc-$8

I also got S-Video cables for my LaserDisc player. On the way out of the store, I noticed they had Batman: Mask of the Phantasm on LD. :shameful:

I might go back and get it soon.

SNES day today, more or less. Some good titles, though.

Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage
Biker Mice From Mars
Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle
Jim Power The Lost Dimension in 3D
Lufia & The Fortress Of Doom
Head-On soccer
Rock n' Roll Racing
Vortex
Wario's Woods

Also picked up a VERY nice King's Quest V for NES (not cheap, but worth the cash)

And, lastly, and ONLY because the disc is mint, The Sims Double Deluxe for PSX.

The store actually had a loose Earthbound, but I've got one already, so I passed. Aybody wants it, shoot a PM, but it won't be cheap (he knows what it's worth). I'd be happy to grab it for someone.

This just made me wonder: Are my pics indeed huge? My display is the living room widescreen TV, so might be a different aspect ratio than other people, and I know it is annoying when stuff is so big you have to scroll right/left. This possibility hadn't occurred to me before, so just let me know and I can do a smaller picture size.

I know that's not the gist of your comment, just thought I'd ask.

Cornelius, your stuff is a bit big on my monitor (though still not as bad as some people's). I always suggest limiting images to a max width of 800 (but make them clickable if the actual photo is larger) when posted on forums to avoid ticking others off.

Unfortunately, no finds today but I do have a huge lot of Famicom stuff that should come in early next week and then there will be pictures. Oh yes, there will be pictures. :D

Being someone who used to be anal and complain about large images (until the forum changed software and gave each post basically it's own standardized minimum horizontal width), I guess I'll chime in.

I run 1280 x 1024, but my browser is windowed - simply because that's just how I prefer to view stuff on the 'web - a holdover from the Netcom days if you would. If I expand the window to full screen the images are within the boundary. If I leave it windowed then they're just too large. Either way it's no big deal since it doesn't totally break the thread the way the old software used to (back when I would whine).

Now my girlfriend's laptop for instance, is pre-widescreen panel, so she runs a lower resolution than even I do. Honestly that drives me nuts. lol

Sales were alright:

http://ryaan1234.googlepages.com/finds40509-1.JPG
My day started off with this. It's a Samsung "Syncmaster 170mp" 17 inch LCD screen, with A/V, computer, RF, and S-Video inputs(!). It's missing the adapter though >_<. It was $5 and I had to buy it at that price. The lady I bought it from told me that it works so fingers crossed.

http://ryaan1234.googlepages.com/finds40509-2.JPG

This came from a charity "trade day" (whatever that was supposed to mean) garage sale sponsoring my school's PTSA. And you are not blind, that's an Xbox 360 on the left. It was $3 and I have no idea what to do with it. The Peter Gabriel, Haddaway (don't judge me >_>), Tears For Fears, Megaman 8, and Megaman Legends CDs were $0.50 each :).

http://ryaan1234.googlepages.com/finds40509-3.JPG
Closer look at my $3 Xbox. CD-drive's date says August 2006. It has no hard drive and it's missing the HDMI port. I think that this might be a core system. I don't even have the proper hookups for it so I have no idea whether it works. Chances are it doesn't, but you never know...

Yesterday's thrift finds:

PlayStation:
The Legend of Dragoon (sealed, GH) - $5
The highlight of the day. The thrift I got this at usually keeps the console games in a locked display case. PC games can be found on a shelf in the electronics section, and it isn't uncommon to a see a PS1 game or two among them. That's where I found this.

Genesis:
Skitchin' (boxed) - $2
This was at the same thrift, and it was in the display case.

I also got a GBA game at GameStop:

Sega Arcade Gallery (cart only) - $2.99
This compilation includes After Burner, OutRun, Space Harrier, and Super Hang-On.
