PapaStu: Well, that's the US game right. =)
The picture was a blurry one of the spines....but MK3 was not in the long boxes, and by process of elimination, the last JC in the pic *has* to be it. The problem is that it looks like a long row of white text....I remember the spine bing just the MK3 logo...unless I'm mixing that up with a PC JC version.

It looks official (as official and as blurry pic can be) and it had the NTSC/US white bar as well, so here's hoping...

Also, I'm currently in the middle of an aucion on ebay that if won, will snag one of the rarest import games ever for the PSX. Drool. 8-)

This item your bidding on. There's a new one ending in 6 hours. If it really is the rarest import then it may be a steal. It's just over $100 right now.

$203 for the new MKII import...I want it...but not that financially badly...

I'll stick with the used one.

Wonder if he takes pre-played discount cards. :)

Your playstation list is great!

Helpful hint: In your database program, if you have numbered past 9 (10 or greater), put a number 0 in front of the single digit numbers to get them to list in the correct order. Such as the Interactive cd samplers and Official Playstation demos. It will then list them as 01, 02, 03, 04.....09, 10, 11 instead of 1, 10, 11, 12....18, 19, 2, 20.

Here is a new demo I picked up:

Brought to you Exclusively By Toy R Us
1998
SCUS-94266
9 demos: Gran Turismo, Blasto, Tekken 3, Hot Shots Golf, Jersey Devil, Einhander, Gex 2, Tomb Raider 2, Tomba!
5 videos: Spyro the Dragon, Metal Gear Solid, NFL Extreme, MLB '99, Resident Evil 2

Gunship should say "Also available packaged in double jewel case."

Thanks for the corrections, Rich; I've noted them and they'll be in the list when I reupload it. I've also noted the 2 Disney collectors editions that were recently released.

The game is so rare that a friend of mine that livesin Japan went to several of the major and minor game stores, and when questioned, the clerks responded that they had never heard of the game. O_O

Also, I wasn't kidding when I said that these are the only two I have ever seen in about 3 years. Ever. I had to track down the actual image from the depths of the Sony Japan web-site just to confirm I wasn't going on a willd ghost hunt. :/

I'm not reading through 7 pages so if it's been mentioned oh well. Anyway you seem to be missing "Thrill Kill" from your list... maybe you left it out because it was only available in Canada, I don't know. But thought I'd mention it.

Also that list is incredibly helpful thank you. (:

Yah, whered you find a copy, cause ive still not seen any in the wild???? (my Robo-Pit 2 was a promo copy [hole drilled into sku] and was traded in at my local indy shop. Its still sealed, cause im scared to open it)

Anyone find any Rascal Racers yet???

Pissed at FF XI I cant get into the PlayOnline system to start the update download (part 3 of registration) that you need to do before you can start the game... grumble grumble

i don't know if this is of any interest for you but i saw CT Special Forces (PAL) in a store today...

PapaStu
04-02-2004, 02:56 AM
Well CT is here in the states, but only as a GBA game right now. We have no idea if its getting turned into the PSOne game that its being rumored to be (at least from what ive seen).

Guess what new and uber rare NEW PSOne game I am holding in my hands.. Thats right Rascal Racers

Rascal Racers SLUS 01575 Published by Telegames, under liscense from Miracle Designs.

I went to GameStop tonight for my weekly check on PSOne games, and what did i see in the bin??? But a copy of Rascal Racers, and a row over, was shock of shocks another copy of Rascal Racers. Both were used, and the cases looked brand new. I take them and a few other games up to the counter for the buy 2 get one free deal. They find everything else, but the Rascal Racers. Usually I walk away, but not this time. I wait on the side, as they try to kill the big line behind me. Half hour later, the hunt continues on for the game. They try to tell me that its not there, though one employee remembered handling them the night before. He calls morning manager, who isnt there, and leaves a mesage. Well an hours past, and still no games. Weve now talked about tons of stuff, and not found the game. Weve been through the PSOne games, and the many boxes of shit that they have all over. The morning guy finally calls back and says to look a place they already have. After more looking there, a pile of games is discovered, and among them is.... A copy of Rascal Racers. Its brother/sister/3rd cousin twice removed is missing. My name is on the case, and there will be more hunting tomorrow when i come back in to see what the morning manager thinks might have happened to it.

Does anyone call dibs on it? Mind you i reserve the right to make the final call and ship it to whom i feel is most needing of it. But i will take offers of who is deserving and why. ASSUMING that we can find the other copy of the game.

Well CT is here in the states, but only as a GBA game right now. We have no idea if its getting turned into the PSOne game that its being rumored to be (at least from what ive seen).

so did you know it was released on PSOne PAL?? did look quite interesting, do you think it's worth spending 9.99 on it? i'm not going for a complete PSOne or something like that...

PapaStu
04-02-2004, 04:21 AM
I didnt know that it was out for the PAL PSOne, simply because I dont know PAL lists to save my life. Ive stayed away from imports of both Japanese and PAL games, because I dump way too much into games as it is right now. Ive looked at the GBA pics, and it looks kinda like a Metal Slug clone... And at $19 or whatever ive seen it at, its almost come home on more than one occasion, and thats pretty good considering how few GBA games I buy in comparison to my other systems.

:::EDIT:::
As i was adding the games to my IGN list, i noticed that IGN did have Rascal Racers up there (though Robo-Pit 2 and a few others are still missing), and its release date was listed as 3/15/04, and MLB 2005's date was 3/16/04.... Hmmm was there just THAT big of a delay in getting the game out, or did MLB actually get released after Rascal Racers?

" I am beaten...sob sob" - Kickle Cubicle

So, my gamble failed. :o

I got the shipment of games from the auction that I thought had MK3 JC in it. And well, it had MK3 in a jewel case alright.

MK Trilogy's jewel case.

However, I did need the NFS long box in it, so that worked out. And surprise, it had the long box Ridge Racer NOT FOR RESALE version! :eek 2:

So in the end, two Yays make up for the stupid nay.

That said, I have some trade/sale fodder (Looks right at papastu :) ), so if anyone's looking, here's what I have:

Long Box:
Tekken - complete, mint game, crack in case
NHL Face Off - Complete mint (with questionaire card @_@ )
Primal Rage - complete mint
WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game - complete, mint game, crack case

Wipeout - BOX AND MANUAL ONLY. No game or coverslip

Jewel Case
Final Fantasy VIII NonGH - Complete, Mint w/ Mini Guide
Final Fantasy VII NONGH - Complete Mint
Grand Theft Auto NonGH - No Map, otherwise mint complete
Tekken 2 NonGH - Mint complete
Madden 2001 - Complete, mini-ittybitty scratches on cd
Tomb Raider II NonGH - Mint Compllete

Madden 97 - Mint disc, no book, no map
Mortal Kombat 3 - MK Trilogy Case, no book
Ready to Rumble - CD Only. Literally

I wouldn't mind a Rascal Racers or anything ^_^

No, thats not a hint or anything.... LOL

Well im trying to get that second copy of the game (im keeping the one copy that ive got for now, for my collection). I went in this afternoon, and they hadnt found it as of then. My name is on the case, my number is on the case, and ive got managers names and such to call and bug the fuck out of until it comes home.... and it will come home. If nothing else they will never let their behind counter get as messy as it appears to be ever again, for my wrath is squirley, and i know how to use it.

Im interested in Primal Rage, and the WWF Arcade, but we'll wait and see what happens first... :D

Well playing on Telegames website ive noticed that they are still listing the Santa Claus and Soccer Kid games. To order any of their "newer" stuff we need to order 3 copies of a game and we can do it. The only thing is that i cant seem to find any contact info, to email them questions, particularily when these 2 games are comming out. We can pool together and order a few copies of the Rascal Racers if needs be, and maybe a few of the SoccerKid and Santa games, if they arnt to far off themselves. Someone else try the website and see if they can find any contact info, cause that would be a nice thing to know. And then we can just order a bunch of all of them, and make the few people who care happy children.
http://telegames.com/pub_psx.htm It will let you Preorder Rascal Racers, but nothing on the other 2.

Speaking of which, I don't know if this would be worthy of Kevin or Kristine's PSX lists, but I think it's safe to say that Rascal Racers is ONLY being sold as "Used" versions even though it's a damn new game. I was able to pick one up today at Game Stop (only place that seems to have it) and every last copy was 'preplayed".

Interesting.

PapStu you have a PM coming, as do other people....so many games coming in from auctions...I was a bad little boy...

I second that. Both of the cases of the games that I found still had the sticker on the top of them, and they both had little gouges in the spine where they were opened by one of the GS employees with a Razorblade. I even asked them if they were converting the product over to used because of the system basically being dead. He said that someone brought them in for trade. But with the 9.99 retail, and that being the used price, it makes one scratch their head. I think that GS's policy is to put them in the "Used" section and sell them as that. That coupled with the fact that all the remaining "New" games are over there too.

kevincure
04-04-2004, 12:58 AM
This may be just a Gamestop thing. The one Gamestop in my area that sells the new PSX games (Ballerburg, MLB 2005, etc.) has them all, at full price, in the used PSX section perfect in every way except for the missing shrinkwrap. It would be strange, but maybe these are shipped shrinked? I dunno. But it's certainly not exclusive to Rascal Racers.

PapaStu

OK, im gonna clear up these cover issues as best as physically possible.....
take into account that there are regular "paper" versions of all of these besides the alternate versions

:::Paper add-ins::::
SW:Jedi Power Battles

:::Chromium Covers:::
Spawn: The Eternal

:::Foil Covers:::
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
CTR (Crash Team Racing)

::::Lenticular add in:::
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Crash 2
Crash 3

:::Lenticular as part of case::::: (i dont know about regular paper versions of these)
SkullMonkeys
Lost World Jurassic Park

Yup i think Spyro 3 was covered. :D Are there any others??? I think i mentioned this once before, but i thought that there was a Tiny Tank Lenticular insert that I saw once. I was probably smoking crack, but ya never know.

Side note, since were talkin different covers. Sony has now done a First in regards to a GH game (that I can think of). Enter the Matrix is now a GH game, and the cover is in the same semi-hologram format as the regular version, just with the really ugly red GH swoop on it. And no this wasnt one of those stickers that gets put on the shrink wrap by the Sony reps, this be the real deal. I was quite surprised to see it like that. Wonder if the GCN and XB will follow suit with their Platinum Hits and Players Choice versions.

kevincure
04-04-2004, 11:13 PM
Yup, I've already noted that one. Spyro 1 is the only one without the lenticular, correct? I have both 2 and 3 listed with that variation.

Rarest Long boxes, at least from my angle here in the midwest:

I thinkg I've seen Silverload all of once out here, and I picked it up...about 6 years ago :eek 2:

I thought that this was interesting. Some poster on the gameFAQS PSOne main board, was asking about Neopets and if it was available. I said no and that we have no clue, and some other poster said that this canadian site was selling it. So i go and check, sure enough they said they were selling it, and it wasnt saying that it was a Preorder kind of thing either.
www.dvdboxoffice.com

I sent them an email asking weither they actually had it in stock. I think that my response was a bit of a cop out.. Heres the emails between us...

Hello

We do apologize, due to stock moving as quickly as it does, it is hard to say what is available at this time.

We do receive stock in daily.

We suggest that you place your order and your order will not be charged until the disc is shipping out.

Thanks

Do this rather than make a new one...

I've been playing on ePSXe - it does nearly perfect emulation these days, plus there are a bunch of shaders that make many games look better than even Bleem can. It's a free download, then just pop the disc into your CD-ROM. Great for taking screenshots too.

Dangerboy: 2 things
1. Sent out your game today, should be there monday. Since i paid money for that one, that will count as trade for the titles that you sent me.
2. Didnt you know that thelogical background to Mortal Kombat??? Thoughs shall rip the spines out of thine enemies, who do not believe in the strenght of the lord. Holy shit, Suikoden 2 is valued at $77? O_o I knew it was in demand on eBay and selling for quite a bit, but I had no idea it was THAT much. Boy, I sure am glad I already have it.

That's really an awesome list. :) I've never been very interested in the PSX nor have I been much of a collector of it (most of my purchases were made when the system was still very active, and now I only rarely buy more unless there's something I'm particularly interested in), but I think it's stirring up some more interest in (bad news for my wallet). ;) I'd guess I have about 55-75 PSX games right now, with somewhere between 25-50% being Japanese imports.

One thing I was surprised to see missing from the list was any mention of the prices Xenogears reached prior to the recent Greatest Hits release. Wasn't it often selling for around $80 on eBay? There must be some value difference between the original and GH versions. At least, I'd like to hope that my original version is worth more than the MSRP of the GH. :P

The list is meant to cover the general value of the games, not what once was (That makes it kinda pointless). Xenogears is pretty much like FF: Tactics, where it pulled huge numbers before the GH release, and once the GH release hit, it calmed down the price of the game. The GH for Xenogears isnt all that easy to find though, cause it looks like not alot of retailers were carrying it, due to the end of the run thing for the PS. From what ive seen, Xenogears is still pulling decently high amounts, even with the GH print run.

PapaStu: sounds good to me. ^_^

Official Sony papers have been signed, dated, Noted, and Priority Mailed back to Sony...now I just sit here and wait for the bling bling.

Picked up Nascar 2004 for PSX new today at $19.99 (EB dropped the price).

Also, for those collecting *everything* you need to hop on ebay and scoop up the 989 2004/2003 sports games. I snagged SHootout 2003/2004 and Gameday 2004 all *new* for like...less than $20 shipped total. :D

The official count of "At least one of every game", with in transit games filed as "Own", and not counting upcoming releases...I need:

6

kevincure

There's no real difference in price for Xeno GH and Xeno non-GH; the original Xenogears really isn't very rare. FF Tactics is one of the few exceptions where the non-GH is worth quite a bit more than the GH, so I noted it in the guide. But that's an exception to the rule.

Dangerboy, what 6 are they?

(a) Means I'm in an auction for it. :) I still need Bases Loaded: Doube Header, but I was in the middle of a deal for it and am still waiting for it, so unless it doesn't show up in the next week or so, I'll toss that back in the need pile.

Got a favor to ask. Which of the Working Designs games had/have alternate disc covers. I think that im stupid enough to go for em all. If anyone has any that they'd like to sell, ive got a thread up in the Buy/Sell Forum. I need Alundra Variants, Elemental Gearbolt, and the Lunar SST (both sets) for sure.

What I know (and what Kev's list has told me)
Alundra: 9 covers
Arc The Lad Collection: 1 cover set
Elemental Gearbolt: 2 covers
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue: 1 cover set
Lunar Silver Star Story Compete (Collectors Ed. and Fan Ed. Is there any telltale difference besides the covers? Does the FanEd. say as such?)
Ray Crisis: 1 cover
Ray Storm: 1 cover
Thunder Force V: Perfect System: 1 cover
Vanguard Bandits: 1 cover

Am I missing any games or cover variants????

Lunar 2 had at least two disc art variations.

Thanks Queen. I did a quick scan of ebay today, and saw another 2-3 Alundra covers. What really sucks is that most people are using the eBay stock photo on that game, so i'd have no idea which one id be getting should i bid on one of those. And considering how sparse most of the descriptions were, I really dont think that most of the sellers really know or even care.

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete has 4 versions:

Original issue has double jewel case with 4 discs listed on bottom left of front cover which has a sword. This had three different versions of art on Disc 1 and 2. The making of and soundtrack discs are supposed to be all the same.

The Fan edition is in a double jewel case with 2 discs listed on bottom left of front cover which has man and a woman on it. The 2 discs have a D at the end of the SLUS- number. The discs also say " Special Edition fan art cd label by: Armen Mardirossian" on top left hand side.

Ugh... even for collecting purposes I wouldn't buy the fan edition of Lunar. That fan art is HIDEOUS. I'd rather look at the US art for Mega Man 1. :/

I think there are 4 versions of the LSSSC game discs plus the fan art (5 total): http://workingdesigns.com/museum/playstation/ourgames/lunar-sssc/cd_labels/contents.htm. I'm not aware of the Lunar 2 variation - does anyone have photos other than the ebay shot from Queen's link?

Also, the entries on the extras that came with LSSSC and LEB were backward in my list. Next time I reupload, they'll have been fixed.

Well scratch Neo-Pets off the list for good. Sorry for stealing Dangerboys thunder [though he did post this in the PSOne board on GameFAQs earlier this morning] cause he spent the time sifting through the news threads to find this.

Under November first...

UPDATE - A while back we mentioned that we were working on a PlayStation game called The Darkest Faerie, well there have been a few delays. Basically we felt that it couldn't achieve everything we wanted it to on the PS1 and so we are going to re-make it as a PS2 game (so the graphics will be much better!) and it will be out in 2005. Don't worry, it's only 35,818,482 seconds away (roughly!)

Got a response from Working Designs yesterday about the Disc Art variant thing. They were kind enough to tell me that I need to look in their museum to see any released information on variants. But going through the museum, I can never really find anything. I also cant get Kev's link to work, but yes i DID remove that extra . after the htm (im paying attention :) ).

Just noticed that you didnt list a variant for Elemetal on your list, that I know is just 2 (I sure as hell hope), but theres nothing about the variants for Lunar or Lunar 2 there either so, whatever :D . No biggie.
I was informed last night of a possible (and probable) Arc The Lad variant. Im waiting on pics for that. I'll keep informed should anything show up in my mail.

::EDIT::
I got sent a set a pic from Norkusa for an "Assassin Case" Elemental Gearbolt. A Golden Guncon, Gold memory card, and Locking breifcase with the Elemental Gearbolt logo on it, along with the game. Utterly amazing. Do we know if this was a Japanese exclusive?

Kevin... More pics for the Lunar 2 disc art variant.

The briefcase was Japanese Exclusive, as far as I can tell (because at the time, had it come to the US I would have sold my soul for it).

Finally got in the original Sony version of Tarzan...yay.

Collector's Note
Also, Since the hardcore PSX people are here, I thought I'd let everone know that I stumbled upon another treasure trove of case inserts/manuals, this time with the actual cases. Some of the ones I remember seeing off the top of my head were the Foil cover version of Yugioh and several Tomb Raiders. I'll post the ful list for trade / sale as soon as other errands are taken care of.

PapaStu: PM coming your way eventually, need to go finish stuff.

Ugh...wasn't this my day off?

Nope, not a Japanese exclusive, and not an official release. It was a prize whipped up by Working Designs for a high-score tournament at the 1998 Electronic Entertainment Expo. I know, because I ran the tournament. :)

We manufactured a few dozen of the assassin cases, and worked with a Canadian manufacturer to gold-plate the Guncons and Memory Cards--the former of which we sent out disassembled, then reassembled at E3 the night before the start of the show.

In addition to the tournament, which was for game journos only, we had a high-score contest open to all E3 attendees. We had two very dedicated players slug it out at the WD booth for the length of the show.

There's a picture of us assembling the Guncons here:

Noted
- 2 elemental gearbolt disc variations (guy in white looking left, guy in black looking right are the ones I've seen, is that all?)
- assassin's case packaging variation (zach, do you know how many total were made? do you have a picture?)
- lunar sssc and lunar 2 disc variations have been noted.
- fixed lunar sssc and lunar 2, which had their packaging add-ins listed backwards.

I haven't reuploaded the file, but I'll do it this week with changes reflected.

Let me know of any new finds.

Also, I'm going to try to get the SLUS numbers for the demos because sometimes the exact name is unclear and I don't want to duplicate; if you have a demo that I don't have an SLUS for on the list, let me know and I'll throw it up. The demos are at the end of the file.

Has anyone actually played Rascal Racers yet? I'm interested in it from a collector's standpoint, but I wonder if it's any fun. The Gamestop 3 miles from here finally got a copy...

Well, I wouldn't call the assassin's case a "package variation," since it was never sold at retail or intended for public distribution. We did, however, correctly assume that at least a few would find their way onto eBay. I vaguely recall that the contest winner in the above link auctioned his off fairly quickly.

I don't have a picture of the case by its lonesome, although it appears both opened and closed in the contest-winner link.

I also don't recall exactly how many we cranked out, but it was no more than 40. There were 16 made for the tournament participants, about as many for retailer buyers, a few for WD to keep, and a few for Gearbolt's Japanese developers.

PLayed Rascal Racers the other night.

For $9 it's...well...it's not really that great. Very stiff controls. So-so graphics.

Can I sell my soul for one please???????? :D :D :D

My WD progress is going well.
Ive got Elemental GB locked down (so that ones done) Im trying to win that alternate Lunar 2 auction I posted, so please dont bid me up. (which would tie up that one.) Leaving me with a million Alundra covers, and Lunar SSSC to deal with. At least its a start. No info on the Arc The Lad yet... but that will drop as soon as I get it.

Heh! Only if I get one first. That game was almost completed when I showed up at WD, so all I did on it was maybe ten hours of testing, making me unworthy of a case. Former WD webmaster David Zdyrko got one because he tested for at least a hundred hours.

You should've seen the videotape we received of a Japanese tester going through the game with, I believe, a PS Mouse. He was INSANE.

His resume to the company probably began, "Finished RE1 with knife...." LOL

Also, you know you've reached the point of no return when downloading Kevin's PSX list is the equivalent of a getting good buzz. :)

I've read about that video and the kid beating it with the mouse. There was a guy (also from Japan) who played and beat one of the StreetFighers (in hard-mode I think) for the DC using the fishing controller. The pics of him slashing across everything were super funny.

Off to game hunt this afternoon... WD Variants!!!!!!!!!!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
