I guess a few of my Atari 2600 games would be rare, eg:

All 4 BOMB games with manuals for the 2600 or Motorodeo with manual,

Or maybe it's The Firemen for the SNES. I have not seen this game EVER apart from my copy (apart from the one proto I found on EBay)

Oh and Team Buddies for the PSX

I think my current rarest game would be my Action 52 for Genesis, complete with box and manual (that's just off the top of my head though)

Well, the two items I have that are the rarest in my collection are probably a complete copy of Super Metroid and also the cartridge of Starship Hector on the NES. Though those two games may not be "rare", they are the rarest of what I have so far.

Edit: Also would like to add a complete copy of In the Hunt. Didn't realize that game was somewhat rare until I looked on the Rarity Guide.

i guess our rarest video game unit would have to be the NES M82 game system. I remember playing this unit for as long as I could when Dad was working at Wal-Mart. Then some doof reset it to like 30 seconds. :P

Dad bought the system when they quit selling Nintendo..paid like 10 bucks for it, and it was our game system of choice all growing up.

I have a fairly small collection of only about 135 games but I think I have a decent amount of rare games. These games listed are my most rarest ones which are worth mentioning:

Atari 2600 (PAL)

Mario Bros. [HES, Atari Rerelease] R6
Obelix [Atari, Silver] R6

4 in 1 R7
Shark Attack [Apollo, Picture] R7

[b]Nintendo, Super (NTSC-US)

Burn-In Test Cart R9

Sega Master System (NTSC-US)

King's Quest - Quest for the Crown (CIB) R6

Sega Master System (PAL)

Teddy Boy [Sega Card] (CIB) R6

According to DP

PS1 - X-Com: UFO Defense R7
SNES - Pieces R7

According to me and my extensive knowledge :wink 2: X-Com is not even close to one of my rarest games.

I'm going to say, and this is purely from a supply standpoint that my rarest game is...

P.T.O. for the Genesis which is listed as a lowly R5.

I've got three different diagnostic carts for SNES. When I asked a friend what good they were since you couldn't actually play them, he said you can play Super Nintendo Repairmen, so I guess they do count as games.

A few of my more difficult to find include things like....
Flintstones 2, Bubble Bobble 2, Tengen Tetris, Action 52, Stack-Up Complete, Chase the Chuck Wagon w/Manual, Star Fox Weekend Challenge Comp Cart, Fun n Games, etc..

dougman999
06-23-2007, 07:32 PM
I got 3 R7's for NES: Big Nose Freaks Out, Blackjack (boxed), and Maxi 15 (version with Double Strike and Pyramid).

Since N64 games only go up to R5, I got these: NFL Blitz 2001, NFL Blitz Special Edition (sealed), Razor Freestyle Scooter (sealed), and Worms Armageddon.

And this one's not in the rarity guide: Star Fox demo cart for SNES.

I have more R5's than I realized, but I managed to find an R7 in my collection - Quattro Sports (NES).

There are two versions of Quattro Sports for the NES. One goes into the Aladdin Deck Enhancer and the other is in a shape of a regular NES cart (well, the shape of a 'regular' unlicensed NES cart). The more common of the two is the latter, which is an R2, and its gold.

Sparkster

That would make my rarest game an R6 - Ultimate League Soccer for the NES. Found it at a pawn shop.

Hmm....good question. It could be Snatcher for my Sega CD, Tengen Tetris for my NES, the Japan-only Star Wars Famicom game, Silent Hill for the Japanese GBA, Perfect Dark for the import N64, or Castlevania: S.O.T.N. for import Saturn. Now that I think about it, my God of War 2 E3 demo(taken straight out of the E3 PS2's used) would definitely be the rarest. Too bad it's not a full game.

I have some great items but when it comes to rarity I would have to say it has to be the artwork. Even if an item appears to be one of a kind sometimes another pops up. These are the original paintings used for the box art so there can not be another. I have close to 500 pieces but 100 or so are paintings which are by far my favorite.

I never thought Remix was that hard to find. I found mine complete for like $3-$5.

Hmm....I don't have any prototypes or anything, but I'd say my rarest things include my boxed ZX80, my sealed PAL F-Zero on the SNES, Home Alone on the SMS, Mutant League Hockey, Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel, Flink and pirates of Gods and Dragon Ball Z on the Mega Drive (I didn't pay for them, got given them at my old work) and a pirate of Pokemon Crystal for the GBC (it's a weird crappy platformer, again got given at my old work).

Oh, and DS Demo carts of Pac Pix and Nintendogs. And one of those puzzles that goes "bzz" when you guide a metal loop around a frame, but in the shape of a hand for the DS release. Oh, and a Sega Channel t-shirt.

I have a lot of random crap.

Probably Bumper Bash for 2600 for me. Not complete, but I do have the cart and the manual, along with the warranty card. ;)

Came in the same lot as Master Builder and Gas Hog. (They both have manuals as well)

has Bumper Bash become less rare in the past 10 years? i remember when i first found one people on usenet were clamoring over it, then i found 3-4 more over the next coupla years... (they all sold for around $100 from what i can remember, more for the CIB one)

the one good thing about Canada - video game dumping ground -- 2600 Zellers carts and Spectravision carts seemed plentiful up here... also Maxi-15s seemed abundant in the Winnipeg area...

The Dreamcast Matching Service Games are not rare, nor is Phantasy STar SMS. All are fairly common, with Phantasy Star SMS a little less so, but still easy to obtain (and inexpensive).

It's really hard to classify stuff as rare, so here goes my list:

Segata Sanshiro (Saturn JPN; hard to find, sorta expensive)
Dungeons & Dragons Collection (Saturn JPN; not that hard to find, but expensive)
Metal Wolf Chaos (Xbox JPN; sorta hard to find, not too expensive, if you're lucky)

Those three are probably the rarest softs I own.

The Getaway (100 Million Discs Limited Edition version) ~ PAL PlayStation 2:

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5788/thegetawayvl1.th.jpg (http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=thegetawayvl1.jpg)

Here we have an example of "The Getaway" ~ Sony produced 1,000 special versions to commemorate 100,000,000 (One hundred million) PlayStation 2 discs. As far as I know, these were only given away to employees at Sony, and have "Not To Be Sold Separately" in place of the barcode. The whole cover, back and front, is a silver coloured rendition of the standard game cover, with minor differences unique to this edition.

On the front in small writing, it says "Limited Edition of 1,000", plus a small white sticker beneath the cellophane which has the edition number printed on it (In this case, mine is 100.000.476) ~ The game is wrapped in the usual thick cellophane with a clear tear strip in the usual place about an inch from the bottom, plus the "Y" style folded ends.

As far as I know, this edition also holds the original game code which the first release had, which was later withdrawn from sale and replaced due to legal issues between Sony and BT (British Telecommunications) because of a certain in-game mission which involved blowing up BT branded service vans, or something similar

I also believe The Getaway was a UK only game in the first place. Set in London, it's a GTA style modern gangster themed game much alike the film "Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels"

A game such as this is the true definition of "RARE", as it is clearly limited in numbers and sought after by collector's. Sealed examples are even rarer. This particular game is obscure to start with, which adds to the obscurity of this particular Limited Edition version
