Why did Atari release Video Cube *and* Rubik's Cube? They are the almost the same game, so why release them twice?
It was a licensing thing. Kind of like why did INTV release Soccer when NASL Soccer was the same game?
There has to be more it than this. Atari Video Cube and Rubik's Cube were released around the same time by the same company. NASL was released by Mattel Electronics whereas Soccer was released by INTV Corp. The licensing agreements that Mattel had probably didn't carry over when the company was sold.

Sonic for SNES? You bet... to bad it's a hack of Speedy Gonzales with Sonic and Mario taking the places of other sprites. Crap, really.
Sonmari is much better (I'd love to get it.) A true-blue Sonic game on the NES... the programmers obviously took a lot of time with that one.
Tekken 2 on the SNES appears to be an original game, but it blows. They have copied the arcade's select screens and some of the still screens, but the rest of the game is wretched. Bad graphics, bad control, laughable winning screen.

Why are people listing Gunstar Heroes for Genesis? Is it really that rare? I guess I wouldn't know, I've had it since it was released. At the time I felt it was being overlooked, but I had no problem getting it.
It irks me that FFIII, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana would be considered "rare", as they were popular and easy to get in the mid-90s. But seeing that people horde copies, I guess complete copies are hard to come by. Phantasy Star IV I can understand, released in 94 to little fanfare and a high price tag. Look on Ebay at any given time and there are dozens of auctions going on for these games. It's just that they are popular and demand is high. Complete copies for all 3 go for at least 60 bucks. Sheesh. 'Course, Chrono Trigger was 70 bucks new in 1995.
Anyway, I have small collections for SNES, Genesis, and NES.
NES: River City Ransom, maybe Double Dragon III, loose, but still easy to get
SNES: Clayfighter Tournament Edition w/manual--rare, to be sure, but low demand--I got it for $1.50
Super Double Dragon--seems to be rare, I paid $20 bucks, maybe over-priced, but I love it
R-Type III complete, great condition, with dust cover--I can't believe I paid almost $40, but it's beautiful \^_^/
Space Megaforce loose
Contra III complete--not too many of those around, it seems, or...?
I'm hesitant, but what the hell:
FFIII complete (poster included), guide in ratty condition
CT w/manual, no maps
Genesis:
Streets of Rage 3 complete--I've heard it's rare, I don't know
Lightening Force/TFIV--don't see it too often, in fact I didn't know it existed (probably because they stupidly didn't call it Thunder Force IV--WOW, that was stupid x_x ) but it's cheap, so maybe not rare, definitely low demand--I got it for $1.25!
Gaiares, I suppose, I've had it for years and years
Phantasy Star IV--cart only is cheap compared to with manual, even...keee-rist!!
Phantasy Star II complete with hint book--had it since 1991, its price then was $70...not as much demand for it now as PSIV complete, of course, but there you go. Not that I care, it's not going anywhere.
Ghostbusters complete in perfect condition--don't come across it too often like this. The GB fanboy in me is happy :)
Gauntlet IV complete--again, seems to be rare, but demand isn't exactly explosive--I recently got it for 4 bucks

IRRC, Rubick Cube was only available to Atari Club members(as a prize? My neighbour claimed so when we were young), and Video Cube was for general sale, making Rubic's Cube a collectors item. Tada!

Well, I just sold my two rarest games. Although I haven't posted them yet, so they're still in the house. Does that count? :D
They are:
Jewels of the Oracle (PAL Saturn)
Lords of Thunder (PAL Mega CD)
I've also got Panzer Dragoon Saga - but I don't think that is as rare. I certainly see it a lot more often .... I've also got a copy of Yu Yu Hakushu for the Megadrive on its way to me. That probably comes closer, but I've still seen it more often than the first two.

Taxi 2: Le Jeu for DC. It was only released in France. I had a hard time finding it in Paris, and trawled most of the game stores on two separate occassions. I now own two copies though.
I suppose Prikura Daisakusen for Saturn is fairly rare as well.

mh a complete ss6 is not rare, it's on ebay often enough for about 30? and u can still order it online sometimes
mine is perhaps chavez ii, though not boxed, but i'm not really sure because i live in europe and the ratings in the guide don't fit the european market, eg that chavez ii would get a r9 at least over here, just think about it, R8 in usa, and it's an us realese, so woohoo it's really really hard to find in europe, if not impossible

Heh -- rare, but not necessarily desirable: My RCA Studio II, the monochrome wonder, with its original owner's manual and three boxed carts with instructions (Blackjack, Tennis and Baseball). It was my first video game experience back when I was about four or five, so I've still got it for sentimental reasons. :embarrassed:
As for cool things...hmmm...anyone know of a difference in rarity between the different editions of Gran Turismo 2? I bought mine the day it came out, so I'm pretty certain I've got 1.0 (with all the bugs included). However, I don't know any sure way of telling which is which, other than that some of the cars (like the Honda Logo) in my edition aren't even drivable and it works with all the GameShark codes (later editions apparently had software changes to make this tougher).
My brother's also got a Turbo Touch 360 controller for our old NES -- damn, that thing sucked to play with, but you sure don't see 'em around anymore either. And I have a Capcom Fighter GS controller for my Genesis, with a pistol-grip directional pad on the left side and a flat six-button panel on the right. Works great with SF2 Turbo!

Based on the DP lists, my rarest has to be my (loose) copy of SNES Chavez II, with a few PS1 games close behind it (Motor Toon GP, Punky Skunk, Speed Racer, Tail of the Sun).
Some of those might not be as rare in my area though, since I definitely remember seeing Chavez II somewhere else nearby (can't for the life of me remember where, though), and I've seen Motor Toon GP a couple of other times in the last month or so, and never more than $20.

Value-wise, my complete boxed Glib for the 2600. Next is my sealed Berenstain Bears for the 2600 (thanks John! :D).
Rarity-wise would probably be my nifty collection of video game press kits. The funky boxed ones with cool goodies, not the plain old paper/cd ones. (Still trying to get a complete Primal one though...argh.)

Starwing Competition (SNES) (German)
its like the Starfox Super Weekend, but only a PAL German Version. And I know only this one copy from the game in german. There exist an english PAL version too, and this is too hard to find. The NTSC version is the easiest to find I think.
Taz (Atari 2600 VCS) Prototype (no Taz in the titlescreen)
its a Prototype, where the titlescreen is different to the release version. No Taz is there, only the copyright from Atari.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Atari 2600 VCS) Prototype
ROM is a bit different, but nothing in the gameplay. But its one of my favourite game, and I am happy, that I own the Prototype too from this great game.
Other Atari 2600 VCS Prototypes:
Alpha Beam with Ernie
Centipede
Demons to Diamonds
Dolphin
Human Cannonball
Kung-Fu Master
Millipede
Obelix
Off your Rocker
Peter Penguin
Seaquest
Sorcerer's Apprentice
Genesis Prototypes:
Mickey's Ultimate Challenge
Micro Machines Turbo Tournament '96
And many Demos, Promos and Instore Games for many Systems.

Matty where did u get the competition cart from? is it THAT hard to find? i thought there were 100 or so made and i don't know many german collectors at all, where do u live again?
I have get it by an eBay auction, listed as Starwing Demo or Promo. I have see, that it must be something different, but not know at this time, that this Starfox Super Weekend Cartridge exist in german.
So I have ask the seller, if he would sell it earlier for a good price, and so he sell it to me and end the auction.
I don't know how much were made from it, but I have never see another german version from this game.
Maybe there were made 100 from them, but I think most of them are owned from Nintendo or were maybe destroyed after the Competition was over. Not know at all. Only a guess.
Its the only german version, which I know from.
And I now only one other guy who own a english PAL version. So at least 2 PAL versions, which I know. And only 1 german version.
When someone own this game in German, so please reply here, but I think there are not so much, or maybe noone else. :D
I live in Berlin.

Yup, I'm the guy who co programmed/designed the Water World game for the Virtual Boy & for the Saturn...Do you know anyone with a saturn emulater?....Cause I may know someone with the WaterWorld game :D
PS: I'll have a limited amout of the "Clickum" games for the PC hand packed in DVD boxes....I hope I can sell them all (50) to pay for my trip :$
Steve
Wow... that's really cool! I've made a few games for the VB, all using the public compilers... nothing too cool yet, although better games are coming soon. It's really cool finally making use of the VB's link cable... it's sad that it died off so quickly :( . BTW, you don't happen to know how to set up the official Intsys VB dev kit do you? I've tried 3 different scsi cards, a few different computers, and tons of other stuff, but I can't get the software to recognize that it's hooked up (the scsi card detects it though).
As for Saturn emus... http://www.zophar.net/saturn.html is the biggest list I know of, but it doesn't sound like any of them are very good at emulating it... is there a reason why you couldn't burn the game to a cd-r and install a mod chip in your system to play?
Oh... and I guess since I don't have my website in my sig, I run a VB site, mostly modifying/programming... it's http://projectvb.vze.com .

PS: Are you going to the CGE in Vegas this year? If so, I hope to see ya there!
Steve
Heh... I didn't think anyone could remember, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask :) . I wish I could make it out to CGE, but I live in the DC area, so that's a pretty far trip, especially since I've got another year until I can turn it into a gambling vacation :( . Some other goodies, but not that rare:
Phantays Star Collection (sealed - Saturn)
What's Shenmue (demo - sealed - Dreamcast)
I sold most of the rest of my stuff, lke a sealed Sapphire... needed the cash.
