"rarest" item?

Hmmm, I've got a lot of neat rare games and such ... but my rarest single item is probably my Atari 2600 Flashback V.2 which I had modified by Benjamin Heckendorn (of "Portable VCS" fame) to accept actual 2600 cartridges.

It's sweet. A 2600 smaller than a JR. that has beautiful AV output.

He said he's only done one other. So, one of two ... that's pretty rare.

I won a NES auction the other day for $60 AUD came with a couple of complete HES games and common NES carts, but he said he found two more games, which he threw in for free :)

Any way he gave me a CIB Death Race for the NES (H.E.S) cart for free which was nice, and is probably my rarest item right now :)

To date, the rarest I've found is chuck norris/artillery duel for coleco. My one and only R9. A few R8s Sammy Lightfoot and qbert's qubes both coleco, fox hunt and team buddies (sealed) for psx, fun and games, aero fighters, and chavez II for snes. All of which were found in the wild which is very satisfying. I've been looking for spiderman web of fire for the past 8 months or so but it hasn't come across my path yet

Hi all,

I'm quite new here so please forgive the newbishness.

I have been an avid fan of gaming since 8 years old (27 now) and started collecting gems that I thought represented the best the inductry had to offer. So though not numerous, I go for what I feel is truly great.

Some highlights include: (All Factory Sealed Original)

Radiant Silvergun
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Castlevania SotN and Dracula X for Saturn
Orta Xbox Console
Biohazard 5th Anniversary Briefcase
FFIII SNES
Arcana SNES
Resident Evil Long Box PSX
ZOE 2 Giftset
A lenticular (sp?) prototype Poster of NiGHTS that came from a Sega Office.

I'll have to post pics sometime, but these are just sme of what I think are some of the greatest games of all time.

If only someone would sell their golden Elemental Gearboly Gun set >.<

A few of the better gems from my collection are:

Blue Chicago Blues laseractive disc
All seven of the Lunar Silver Star artwork discs
All four of the Dragon Force artwork discs
Brigandine Grand Edition (minus the map - but as rare as this game is not a biggie)

I have two really really unusual things in my collection.

1) A Battlestation II controller. It has two controller positons with six buttons and one joystick each with turbo cabability It can control a SNES, a Genesis, a SMS, a commodore or an amiga. It is about 18 inches wide and about 8 inches deep. Unless you have a left handed and a right handed person playing though someone is going to be at a disadvantage. I have no documentation for it and I don't know who made it. It looks pretty impressive though since the joysticks are different colors and the buttons are all oversize and are different colors also.

2) An ASCII gameboy display case - it holds 16 games in a 4 x 4 grid with a storage compartment for the manuals on the side and sits upright on two legs. It has a paper insert that shows pictures of gameboy games and one of them shows the artwork for a game called "Doomsayer" which as far as I can tell was never actually released.

I keep the following games in it:

Beetlejuice
FF Adventure
FF Legend
FF Legend II
Mysterium
Rolan's Curse II
Gauntlet II
Kingdom Crusade
Knight's Quest
FF Legend III
Prophecy
Gargoyle's Quest
Spud's Adventure
Sword of Hope
Ultima Runes of Virtue
Ultima Runes of Virtue II

Very interesting read and game. Care to share the story behind how you acquired the game?

The Getaway (100 Million Discs Limited Edition version) ~ PAL PlayStation 2:

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5788/thegetawayvl1.th.jpg (http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=thegetawayvl1.jpg)

Here we have an example of "The Getaway" ~ Sony produced 1,000 special versions to commemorate 100,000,000 (One hundred million) PlayStation 2 discs. As far as I know, these were only given away to employees at Sony, and have "Not To Be Sold Separately" in place of the barcode. The whole cover, back and front, is a silver coloured rendition of the standard game cover, with minor differences unique to this edition.

On the front in small writing, it says "Limited Edition of 1,000", plus a small white sticker beneath the cellophane which has the edition number printed on it (In this case, mine is 100.000.476) ~ The game is wrapped in the usual thick cellophane with a clear tear strip in the usual place about an inch from the bottom, plus the "Y" style folded ends.

As far as I know, this edition also holds the original game code which the first release had, which was later withdrawn from sale and replaced due to legal issues between Sony and BT (British Telecommunications) because of a certain in-game mission which involved blowing up BT branded service vans, or something similar

I also believe The Getaway was a UK only game in the first place. Set in London, it's a GTA style modern gangster themed game much alike the film "Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels"

A game such as this is the true definition of "RARE", as it is clearly limited in numbers and sought after by collector's. Sealed examples are even rarer. This particular game is obscure to start with, which adds to the obscurity of this particular Limited Edition version

I have a complete boxed Bally Arcade home system that was releases in '79 along with 8 games still factory sealed. I'm yet to find anyone else who is even familiar with this thing. It's sort of like the atari 2600. I even scored the pre-order reciept that was used to buy it.

I'm familiar with it. Infact, I have one. I'm actually looking for an original box for it.

I don't really have anything that's rare. My rarest would probably be the above mentioned console and a QJ game action replay in its original box with manual and such.

My Japanese Neo-Geo AES Homecart System which is like new and complete down to the plastic baggies and twist ties inside the box. Heck, the box is in better shape than some new console boxes that I have seen being sold in local stores today. It took me a while to find such a nice one but it was well worth the wait. Sometimes it's condition makes me not want to play on it, but who can resist the Neo-Geo? I sure can't.

At one point I couldn't resist the Neo Geo but times have changed. I had about 80 US AES games, 50 MVS, and 40 Neo Geo Pocket games and 10 Neo Geo AES systems (8 US and 2 JPN). All I have left now is 25 US AES games, and 5 MVS games. No systems or anything else. I was hardcore into Neo Geo back in 2002 when I started. I stopped around 2005 as the prices was killing me and adding up big time. I had atleast 15K invested in Neo Geo. I had some of the top of the line games. I still have some today but Im looking to get rid of everything else when I have the time. I sold most of it before I moved.

I went back to my roots in where it all started Sega Master System and plus it's more affordable for me. SMS 4 LIFE!!!

I like Amano's work but his original paintings cost 5 digits !

Instead I had to settle for a book with an autographed sketch. It was resonable so I bought another and have 2 different. One $150 the other $100 both hardcover 1st editions. If you enjoy his work this is a resonable alternative for owning an original.

Here they are.

Eliminate Down seems a whole lot rarer than many of the games listed by others in this thread.

People need to stop thinking Radiant Silvergun is rare. I'd bet that since the advent of eBay there has never been more than a span of a few days that Radiant Silvergun was not available.
Eliminate Down on the other hand, is very uncommon to see for sale.

The most uncommon games I own are probably Namco Musum Vol.2 Box Set w/ Volume (paddle) Controller, GG Aleste, Hyper Duel, Puyo Puyo 4 (N64), complete Gunnac, and some side scrolling shmup for GameGear that I have no idea what it's called.

Very interesting read and game. Care to share the story behind how you acquired the game?

It's not a very interesting story, but it is amusing.

The game was simply listed on eBay as "The Getaway" with a minimum bid of £1.00. Out of curiosity I clicked it, expecting to see yet another Platinum version which seem to be commonplace these days. I was bemused with what I saw. At the time, used copies of The Getaway were lucky if they fetched between £3-£5 (Sealed new copies between £8-£10), so I thought i'd try eMailling the seller anyways and see if they'd accept an offer of £15. They did, I paid pronto, and it arrived the next day!

Turns out the seller was a mother of a guy who had gone away to university or something, and she was asked to sell some of his games on his behalf. Obviously she hadn't a clue what she had, and listed it simply as "The Getaway" assuming it was as common as any other version released. As the Platinum version was common as sea water, £15 must have sounded a bargain price!

Until then, I had been searching for an original sealed black label version (Before the change of the coding), but I am more than happy to own this version as a compromise!

1. Kizuna Encounter (Neo-Geo EURO) : 4 Known existing copies
2. Nintendo World Championships: Gold Edition (NES NTSC-U) : 26 produced copies
3. 64DD Kyoshin no Doshin Sample Disk (N64 64DD expension NTSC-J) : less than 50 produced copies, arround 10 (or less) likely to still be arround (others are likely to either have been destroyed or trashed in some places and forgotten).
4. Atlantis 2 (Atari 2600 NTSC-U) : Number of copies unknown.
5. 64DD Kyoshin no Doshin Expension Kit (commonly known as Doshin the Giant 2) (N64 64DD expension NTSC-J) (arround 200 sold copies)

That is as far as I know the TOP 5 rarest games ever existing. As you can see 2 of them are 64DD games (people usually forget about the 64DD games whenever they think of rare videogames because the 64DD is an uncommon unit to begin with (the unit itself being quite rare to begin with and the games did not sell well (which is how they got rare, especially doshin the giant 2 and Japan Golf Tour 64)
Also the 64DD doshin sample is so rare that most people do not even know of its existence (although it is still a retail 64DD disk)

Of course there are betas that are much more rare or more valuable than those games (especially unreleased games) but I only inclueded retail games on the list.]

Finally I do not own those games myself except for the 3rd one (the 64DD sample disc, which of course I am absolutely not selling.)

Nothing rarer than a couple of TG-16 R6s:

Neutopia II
Klax

Both complete. I just don't find rare games all that often and I'm cheap.

edit: I just added a third R6 - Drop Off. Oddly enough, it's also for the TG-16.
