I'd say that my rarest retro gaming item is my MIB Turbo Grafx. That's a rare enough item on it's own merits, but the version I have is the limited release in the special Christmas season box that was used for one year only. ;)

You are one lucky guy then. Those games are worth what, $300 complete apiece? For $6 that's quite a steal. How many did you get estimate?
I think I had either 2 or 3 cases of six so either 12 or 18. I think Mike Gedeon bought ~100 of them.
Funny thing is of the 2 of us he has none left and I know I have atleast one left.

Suddenly, now I know why Cheetahmen II appears all the time in Orlando (which is where I live). I didn't know Active had a warehouse here. I know of 4 copies of Cheetahmen II that were sold in the area in the past year - I own a loose copy, one of the local storeowners bought a NIB for $600 (he also has a sealed Flintstones...), and another one was sold CIB for $300. I'm not quite sure where the 4th one went. Interesting backstory on that one, buyatari.

My "rare" games, all mint and complete and original version (black label etc..), some of those are not that "rare", but still hard to find in good condition and complete.
- Radiant Silvergun (+ registration card)
- Border Down Limited Edition
- Earthbound (super mint, no sticker on the box, still has un-scratched manual)
- Ikaruga DC
- Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, FFII, FFIII, R-Type 3, Dracula X
- Valkyrie Profile, FF VII, Xenogears, Dragon Warrior VII
- Contra Force
- Cosmic Smash
- Zelda limited edition Gamecube
- Dragon Warrior I, II, III and IV
I am not sure, other I have may be "rare" too, but nothing comes to mind right now

I could be wrong but I don't think a single copy of CM II was sold by Active Enterprises. Mike Etler bought the entire run and even assembled them and shrikwrapped the boxes. This was somewhere in the mid-late 90s till the stock ran out. You would have to ask him for exact dates.
Anyway you being close to the headquarters should have nothing to do with it. Other than Florida having many flee markets and early on many flee market vendors bought CMII from Etler (New Jersey) and sold them at the markets because he was selling them so cheap.

To be honest, I've yet to see it and he obviously wouldn't show it around. Stranger things have happened. I know for a fact that there is at least one known sealed Surprise at Dinosaur Peak out there, so it's definitely a possibility.
Asking him, out of sheer morbid curiosity, how much he'd be willing to sell it for.

In the U.S maybe, but according to DP the non-US version rates a 1 on the scale, and since the games aren't region-locked, take it as you will I guess.
Also, it seems the DP Rarity for Moonwalker Genesis has changed, used to be 4, now it's 3. Still, both are hard titles to find in the wild.

If you're looking international, and you consider region locks, I suppose you've got a point. Seems like a reach to me, but to each their own.
I will say that I hardly believe a 3-4 rarity is THAT hard to find in the wild. Those are fairly common titles honestly. I couldn't imagine either being a collection centerpiece, but again, to each their own.

Undoubtedly! Two questions:
- Where did you find it (and if you wouldn't be offended, how much did it set you back)?
- Do you happen to have a picture of it?

I think Moonwalker could become similar to the likes of games like Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Super Mario RPG. They're common games, but since they're in such demand at the moment, they'll look good as a collection centerpiece. I know the Genesis version of Moonwalker would, not sure about the Master System version though.

Doubtful. Those three RPGs sold far fewer copies and are far less common. Moonwalker was released on two systems, plus the arcade and is a very, very common game. There is a bump in demand right now, but ultimately, that bump is going to go away.

I disagree with you on far fewer copies and are far less common, that's bullshit. The DP ratings are as follows:
Moonwalker (Genesis) - 3
Earthbound - 4
Chrono Trigger - 3
Super Mario RPG - 3
They're all in the same rating category (save for Earthbound which is one more) so about the RPGs selling less copies than Moonwalker can't be right.

I found it by mistake from a buyer from here in my contry, and he sold me to be a Nintendo NES - broken with a bunch of games 12 to be exact (i payed like 30 $ delivered by curier - in fact I've payed only the games and the delivery, the "nes console" was free :D ) - and I had a big surprize when I opened the box.

First of all, I would appreciate it if you would watch your language. There is no need for that on this board. You can disagree with me all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that Moonwalker was sold on two different home console platforms in every region, plus Sega Game Gear and a bunch of home computers (C64, Amiga and Sinclair Spectrum among others), as well as in the arcade. It also sold quite well, at least on the Genesis and in Europe on home computers. DP ratings don't necessarily reflect the actual numbers of a particular game out there. The three RPGs you listed were Super NES exclusives and while Super Mario RPG and Earthbound had pretty good launch allocations, Chrono Trigger did not. In any event, those three RPGs did not have the print run nor the distribution that Moonwalker got. The "rarity" of Moonwalker is entirely a product of renewed interest in Michael Jackson following his death.

First off:
Moonwalker was never released on Game Gear. Find me a copy of it and I'll believe it, but as far as I know, no copies of Moonwalker for Game Gear exist.
The versions of Moonwalker on Home Computers were totally different games not even published or made by Sega, rather they were published by US Gold. And good luck finding copies of them, they're pretty scarce. Same goes for the arcade, that's a totally different game from the Genesis and Master System games.
Moonwalker CIB was retailing for over $30 since at least the February before he died, so that whole "death" argument is moot.
The Master System absolutely failed on America, so unless your a video game fan like the people on these boards, or you lived in South America or Europe where the Master System was popular, no one's going to give two shits about the Master System version.
If the DP rarity rating doesn't reflect the number of games sold, then what the hell does it reflect? How many people know about the game?
So in all honesty, Moonwalker isn't some big multi-platform game that's dirt common.

Do you actually do any research before you post or do you just post whatever comes into your head? As of this morning, there were 49 copies of Moonwalker for sale on Ebay.UK and a little over 20 copies on Ebay. Most were complete and the least valuable appear to be the home computer versions. This is clearly not a rare game in any sense of the word. And yes, as someone else pointed out, DP rarity ratings do not reflect the number of games sold.

You'll have to show me where all these PC versions of Moonwalker are on Ebay.com, because all I could find was one IBM PC version from an international seller.
And you aren't realizing that Moonwalker for home computer and Moonwalker for Arcade and Moonwalker for Genesis/Master system are three different games entirely!
I never really said that the regular Moonwalker game was rare, rather it was in demand like the other rather common SNES RPGs. Do you really think that Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound are rare? There are a ton of copies of these games online, they're just in demand.

Are those just the prototype shells or just the drives in shells? I never was able to find any definitive information on what they usually contained. I see the back two are marked as development units, which is what I've usually seen. The front two are very interesting, though whoever came up with the color scheme for the front right one must've eaten something weird.
Cool to see, but useless. My own interest in M2 for gaming has lessened after learning how bad the hardware ended up being. Of course, I guess that's easy for me to say since I'm just banking on the Konami M2 arcade games being emulated one of these days...:embarrassed:

The two units in the front contain full M2 hardware.
Cool to see, but useless.
Not sure why you would say they are useless. As previously mentioned, the front two units contain full M2 hardware.
The black unit is ready to run M2 software and has been used to play my M2 Dolphin demo.
It also plays VCD's :)
The multi-color unit is almost ready to run. It's part of a dev setup.
My own interest in M2 for gaming has lessened after learning how bad the hardware ended up being. Of course, I guess that's easy for me to say since I'm just banking on the Konami M2 arcade games being emulated one of these days...:embarrassed:
What exactly was so horrible about the hardware? I know quite a few people who would argue otherwise.

I think my rarest item is a Trade demo of Mat hoffman's pro BMX2 for PS2, since I've never even heard of another before I got very specific down to its SLUS ID, no idea of its value though.
If that doesn't count, I think it would be Final Fantasy on NES more or less complete, or my complete Limited Edition Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne with soundtrack.

Probably Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru (JP Saturn) and Panzer Dragoon Saga (US Saturn), though PDS is rather easy to come by, albeit expensive. Valkyrie Profile (US PSX) could be mentioned aswell.

If you're going to consider multi-regions on rarity levels for games, than Earthbound/Mother 2, Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG are EXTREMELY common. Especially Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. They are the most common games in some regions and sell for about US$1.

Spider man maximum carnage box set.(40 bucks I dont want to say where) Its supposedly the third rarest item for the sega genesis (I THINK).Sorry, you thought wrong. That game is rare in JAPAN. Unless you have the Japanese version, $40 is probably overpriced. It's currently listed at $5 on ebay for the US version.

No, he's correct. There's a rare US box set for Maximum Carnage which included the game bundled with extra stuff that was only sold on a shopping channel. It's really rare and usually expensive. I'll post a link which shows what it looks like.

Panzer Dragoon Saga, Radiant Silvergun, and Earthbound, all complete. I've got a lot of games worth over $100, but those are the only ones that break into the $200 range.

For games it's more than likely my PAL version of Mega Man: The Wily Wars. . . which is especially sweet since I found it in the wild for $3.50.
Splatterhouse 2 is another good one I found for about $5.
For hardware probably my JVC X'eye.
Nothing shocking or terribly special.
I HAD Snowbrothers for NES growing up. A game that I loved, until my stupid drunk sister decided to trade it to her friend for Tetris 2. She sucks.

I only have a few rare items. I have 1/2 of the Turbografx catalog, so there are a few like Bonk 3, Terraforming, Dungeon Explorer II. I guess Radiant Silvergun and Dracula X:ROB aren't rare, just expensive. Other than that:
Dreamcast- Sonic Adventure LE (7)
Wonderswan- Judgement Silversword (not on the list, but limited in quantity)
Intellivision- Congo Bongo (8)

I would have to look (I think the "rarest" thing according to the guide is Cotton for the T-16) but some of my favorite rare stuff is the more surreal "why does it exist" type of games. Toping that list is stuff like Captain Novolin, Custer's Revenge, Steam Hearts (Saturn), and Action 52 (NES).
Probably these two sealed games:

Just found my old Unreal Tournament leather jacket from working on several versions of it. I think they only made like 25 of them for staff, so it's fairly rare. I've sold off most of the protos and rarities I had, but this has too much sentimental value to part with (nor do I believe it would fetch much).
