Not at first. LJN was originally a toy company that just happened to get into the video game business. Acclaim bought it from MCA/Universal in 1988.
That explains things. I know on many of my later LJN titles ('Incredible Crash Dummies' for example) the words "manufactured by acclaim" are molded directly into the plastic.

AVGN did a panel at Magfest.
Says what his next video is so you might wanna skip this for now if you don't want it spoiled:
The AVGN asked for audience members (all fans) to vote on their favorite Nerd moments, for consideration for his Top 10 Nerd moments coming out later this year. “Whip or Shizz?” “Kill all babies or the Joker’s ass?” Everyone knew the jokes by heart, yet arguments over rankings were inevitable.
One Heated debate: which was better, Kyle’s flashback, or the pause music from BattleToads?
…You just have to know. What, you ask, was the number one choice? Well… you’re just going to have to wait for the video to find out. :)
Then James took some questions from his captive audience. Some samples:
5 favorite bands? Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Metallica, Led Zepplin.
Favorite video? Mario 3, because “for once I got to play a good game.”
Favorite games? “Super Mario World, Zelda: a Link to the Past, Super Metroid. The SNES had the best stuff.”
Where are you going from here? “Feature film.” “Stick with me, I’ve got something in the works.”
What about the next AVGN vid to be released online? “Michael Jackson’s Moonwaker.”
Asked about a video’s production, James said there’s a lot that goes into it. “They don’t have to look too professional because it’s just supposed to be me in my room, you know? I use desk lamps and stuff.” He uses a pretty professional mic for recording but he likes the intimate nature of his voice-over track. James talked about what goes into the editing process, from synchronizing game footage to color correction to matching time codes. “When all that’s done, that’s when the editing starts.” That’s the price for having high-quality videos, you know.

Like with Konami and Ultra Games then back in the NES days.

That rocked. One of the top 3 of all time, IMO. Anybody else have any insight as to why some copies of the game have the Thriller music and some don't?

That was a real treat to watch. Moonwalker was ok as long as you didn't take it too seriously. I was never able to get pass the cemetery level, so I feel the nerd's rage lol.

I liked it but I felt with it being a Michael Jackson game, he could've done alot more jokes. But I guess that would've been a little too easy/obvious.
And this is one of the few videos I think could've used a "guest appearance".

Wow, I completely disagree with everything you said. It would have been easy to make a whole lot of pedophile jokes, and a whole lot less funny. And if there's ever another guest appearance in one of his videos it will be too soon.

I've hated most of the guest character appearances, but if done right a "Michael Jackson" appearance could've been pretty funny. But there's also a big chance it could've been horrible (like the Joker was). So its probably for the best that they didn't even attempt it.
One thing I really liked about this review was the "Black or White" parody James did at the end. Although alot of people might not get it...

Amen.
It might be too soon to call, but so far this post is the winner of the 2009 Post-of-Truth award.
I just watched the video and have the following comments:
- I loved the part when it shows him rescuing the kids. The look on the Nerd's face is priceless :)
- More of the Nerd's videos should involve funny dancing.
- The robot ... is awesome. I've never played Moonwalker but will have to just for that.

After seeing the AVGN's review I had to look up more about this game.
Is that even true?
From what I read there are 2 versions of this game, and in one of them you can hear Thriller when performing the special move during the graveyard level(the main music is Another Part of Me for both versions).
- The robot ... is awesome. I've never played Moonwalker but will have to just for that.
Apparently the end fight has Michael transformed into a space ship. I'm going to look up playthroughs on youtube now. :)
EDIT: I've watched the ending, he flies a space ship, he doesn't turn into one.

I never saw the movie so I didn't know. Maybe he is the space ship, I just saw the ship flying off, I didn't see him turn into it. I didn't see him piloting the ship either, you're controlling the ship first person.

I've seen the movie... I got a copy on my computer.
I am a pretty desensitized guy and can watch just about anything without getting offended or feeling that I need to leave, but this movie takes the cake.
Note: The movie has 2 music videos at the start and a "stage show" to end with a random story with another music video (smooth Criminal) thrown into in it.
He turns into in this order
-A small DeLorean like car
-The mecha robot
-Then the spaceship and leaves
It's beyond strange in my book.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this episode and agreed with much of what he said. Still, it's not the most horrible game I think. It'll always hold a special place in my collection.. as my first and strangest conversation piece.

Michael Jackson wasn't in the same league as John Madden, Joe Montana, Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky for selling games. He didn't even promote it, I don't think. I don't remember anyone having it, or at least admitting to having it. SEGA did a really good job in having a lot of games available at Genesis launch, and subsequently for the next year. True many were SMS recycles or sequels, but most people were going from NES or Atari to Genesis and never played those before. SEGA also was wise in not going E.T. on Moonwalker and producing too many. Also, Michael was kind of moving into the realm of oddity he is firmly in now.

Moonwalker was one of the first Genesis games I ever spent much time with back in the day. I thought it was actually pretty good at the time, but as I got older I think I realized the gameplay really takes a backseat to the music, esp. when compared to ESWAT or Revenge of Shinobi (other near-launch titles).
Oh and I distinctly remember renting a version of Moonwalker that did play Thriller when you used the dance attack in the graveyard.

I used to love the angry nerd videos, but now he seems to play up his angry side too much for entertainment purposes. I like those times when he's acually really pissed off, lol. My favorite had to been the Silver Surfer video, when he was outlining the line of bullets on the screen at once and how it wasn't possible to avoid to getting hit.

I haven't the slightest guess as to what his next review will be. If it's a single game, and it's on NES, it's probably really, really bad. Late last night I had thought of Zelda 2, but he seems to enjoy that game. However, it would be really easy to rip to shreds, even by a fan.

He should have at least mentioned that it got a sequel in Japan and that it was way better than this one.
