I swear im not making this up but for some reason every night I have to turn on my playlist of AVGN vids on in order to fall asleep at night. I guess the sounds of nintendo games and james's rants ensure a good night sleep LOL

Loved it when he put his hand in the belt. Distinctly reminds me of Al Bundy from Married with Children.

Is he a fan of the show?

That was a very good one. Is the Nerd now in the basement? Loved the Tim Burton/1960's Batman homage. Who needs this new one? Surprised he skipped over the Genesis Batman. Batman Forever was unbelievable garbage. I got it in a lot of SNES stuff, and tried it, and couldn't believe they used the Mortal Kombat engine.

Man, that was hilarious. I downloaded it and watched it on my iPod during my lunch break, and I had to stiffle my laughter to keep my co-workers from noticing.

And I heard Batman Forever was bad, but DAMN! I didn't know it was THAT bad!

#-ing the whole "goddamn batman forever looks like garbage" sentiment. I feel bad for anyone who even rented that game.

Also, wow, he must've burst a vein playing the C64 game.

That was a great game....now batman forever....deserves all the hate it got plus alot alot more. Gosh that game sucked

Come to think of it, alot of the early Batman games did not suck

and Batman ROTJ was amazing for the NES.

To be fair, the controls may very well be clearly explained in a well-written game manual, and even if manouvers like jumping down are tricky, they're probably not used all that often.

You may be right, but still, it seemed like there was no indication of where to jump up and down, so figuring it out required too much guessing.

I relate to the Nerd's frustration because I played Batman Forever on the SNES not too long ago and got stuck at the exact same part he did. I never thought to press the select button and up at the same time. Instead, after a few minutes of wandering back and forth, I turned the game off and sold it.

Yes, likely true. But why did they reinvent the wheel? At that point, everyone was fairly used to jumping and dropping in a few common ways. Why decide on such an unusual method?

I simply hated that game too. I rented it years ago, when it was new, and gave up after fifteen minutes, though I did figure out how to use the Batgrapple thingy upwards.

I actually rented Batman Forever years ago and was so stumped I took it back to the store and said the "game didn't work". (As I couldn't figure out how to move away from the one screen you need the grappling hook for) Good review, I really liked this one, I was hoping for Sega Genesis Batman myself (a favorite of mine). The Cinemassacre piece on Batman is good also the original up through Dark Knight are reviewed by James (AVGN), check it out.

newcoleco

@CelticJobber : It's not just you. For some reasons, I can't put his batman games review in my top3, just in my top5. To clarify, almost every new review he did seems better than the previous ones that obligatory makes me change my top3 favorites avgn reviews. He actually did entertain me, specially the unplayables games, and he did tells me things I didn't know, which is something I always expected in his reviews. Unfortunatly, his speech to the cartridges "I'm batman" was fun the first and second time, but again and again... it became not so funny.

Even if it's not a complete review, the batman game review by wizwar100 seems to me better than the one by avgn. I'm talking here about the humor, something I expect more than costumes and acting, even if it makes the video more polish and dramatic.

Yes, avgn is a good entertainer, a nice person. Yes, he is a good reviewer. But, it was not my favorite batman game review. sorry James.

Loved it, but Return of the Joker is a far more easier game than the first Batman NES game. And The Joker is just bashing the attack button and you'll win (my brother's tactic), I just used a simple strategy to beat him.

Oh, I agree; it is perfectly valid to point out that the game is brazenly unintuitive. I just wanted to point that out in case others were curious.

If the AVGN's review is any indication, the NES version does not have any kind of kick move.

I did not like the new video.

Although he did not totally diss the first two games, he did not give any merits to them either. The NES version of Return of the Joker was simply awesome. It was not hard at all, although practice was necessary. I just think he sucked playing it.

The GameBoy version was good as well, thought not as much as the NES version. Still it was a nice game. I will admit that the jumping fiasco wa a bitch, but once the player practices, it becomes easy. I remember beating it in less than 15 minutes.

The Genesis version...well, though not horribly bad, was kinda crappy. So I will give it to him there.

But he totally ignored other games, mostly the most putrid and disgusting Batman games.

Pretty disapointing, IMO.

Which games did he miss? I already mentioned Batman Returns for the NES. What are some others?

I know there's Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (N64), which is supposedly almost as bad as Superman. There's also Batman: Vengeance (GC, PS2, XB) and Batman Begins (GC, PS2, XB), but those are supposed to be pretty good.

Does anyone know if James is working on part three?

Yea I did not like it, 1:10m intro + 30sc ending in a 8:20m video it was to short. We did not get to see his face boo I want to see him get mad at the games and hit them with a hammer or something. It sucked.

I know, but...I don't know.

He could have used the material and elaborate something with more "feel". Not try to cram as much as possible.

He should have gone with the flow...I mean, was it really necessary to have all those "criticisms" at the end? And at such a "crammed" pace?

I love James and I'm not going to hate on him for doing something different, but as an "experimental" piece, ultimately I think that this wound up not working as well as it could have.

His reveal that there were over 6000 entries probably made the process of narrowing down the BEST (or even reading all of the emails) impossible.

So what we were left with was a bunch of AVGN fans doing their best AVGN impression via email, which ... James read, amicably.

Again, it's his show and he can do whatever he likes with it. It's cool to mix stuff up like this, but I think that at the end of the day this was just James inadvertently doing a bad impression of himself via a script from his fans, and unfortunately missing a great opportunity to review a classicaly BAD NES game from an early enough period in NES games (very close to launch) that a TON of people bought it without knowing any better.

It's one of those NES games that everybody had, and everybody regretted having aquired / rented / played.

not everybody, I bought it back in the day and loved it, it was hard as hell at first but once you made a few maps and/or just avoided where the invisible dungeons were (I admit that was stupid) it was a really decent game,

I love avgn's style and creativity even when he bashes some of my favorate games ,afterall its all in fun and you can tell how much he really does love classic gaming., but yeah this episode felt forced and got on my nerves near the end, but sometimes you have to throw a bone to your fans, even if its covered in dogshit :-)

I know.

The end was pretty much like this:

INSULT
INSULT
INSULT
READING MORE INSULTS FROM SCRIPT (was obvious)
INSULT
INSULT
...
...
END

Kinda sad, really. If he wanted to try this experiment again, he has to ignore 99% of all insults and concentrate on gameplay faults, like he always had. Ask fans to help analyze faults, not come up with new insults.
