His stern dedication to defending Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls is respectable, and he did a much better job of pointing out the myriad of homages to older serials that it referenced in an earlier Indy retrospective ...
... but regardless of whether or not the key criticisms of that film that he touched on (the gopher the monkeys the refrigerator and the aliens) are valid ... the film itself, as a whole, the ENTIRE film, nit-picking-aside is IMO downright AWFUL.
The writing, the acting the pacing the characterizations, everything, absolutely EVERYTHING is sub-par to anything/everything in the original Indy trilogy and I completely disagree with the notion that it deserves even an average rating.

Must have something to do with the game's loading process and loading method, along with the amount of disc scratching. All the bulging eye part really was was a lapse in the rendering caused by the disc's state, causing missing polygons and messed up values for the ones that were present. This made it have a hiccup for the eyelids and the audience, which caused the missing jaws, eyelids and crowd. The floor part was also because of a jump in code that caused it to play the knockdown code, bringing the players into the floor on the wrong animation, making it look very weird and obscene.
As for Clubber Lang, *shudder* never speak of it again. Ever.

I just watched the new episode. I liked it; of course, I have a love for experimenting with glitches (Dating back to when I first began experimenting with the "Weird Warp" (Select button glitch) in Zelda: Link's Awakening, roughly 10 years ago).

I didn't know about that Airman glitch. Cool stuff. Tecmo Super Bowl is well-known for constantly spazzing out. I've seen entire teams with QB Eagles at every position (even teams that aren't the Eagles), which is my favorite glitch of all time.

Haha, inventory-boosting shenanigans in FFVI are some of the best and most fun glitches around. I seem to recall there being the chance of it going both ways, though, and erasing your inventory. Such is the risk of teasing the glitch.
Hilarious episode. However, it frustrates me to see James cleaning his NES carts with Windex or whatever brand of blue cleaning solution is in that squeeze bottle. Isopropyl, man, how can he not know to use isopropyl! I suppose there's still uncertainty on the effectiveness/dangers of blowing in a cart's contacts to "get the dust out", but I can't help but think of FrankieSaysRelax's cart-blowin' experiment and the mold he farmed in the "blow" cartridge. Anyhow, a bit of reckless cartridge-preserving behaviour on display in this AVGN installment.

I meant isopropyl alcohol, also known as rubbing alcohol. There's nothing better for general cartridge/console cleaning and it leaves no residue which is the primary concern with something like Windex.

Windex actually has a small percentage of Isopropyl Alcohol in it, but it also has Ammonia, dye, and some other chemicals in there.
I wouldn't use it on cartridges ... while Alcohol is safe safe in appropriate quantities, the other solvents/fillers in there might have some damaging effects.

It's commonly referred to as "rubbing alcohol" and the stuff that's in most video game cleaning kits.

He only really did that cause really everyone's done it at some point, the gremlin even pointed out that it wasn't going to do jack to save the cart.

It could very well have been him just appealing to the general public who believes the blowing works, because the vast majority still think so. Or he could've just been staying in character.
Either way it's just a fun video.
I've also read alcohol can damage contacts. I'll just stick with a q tip dipped in water and squeezed damp. If I've ever gotten anything that water can't clean on my cartridge contacts, I'm an idiot and don't deserve them clean lol

Zelda II is amazing. Sorry for your terrible opinion, whiny children who think it's too difficult. All the necessary hints can be found from townspeople and the fairy/falling glitches are classic.
Still a good vid. Loved the ending. Is that a real glitch with the power glove or just some creative editing?

I always thought the complaints in Zelda II were pretty stupid. It's not like the games that hard as long as you don't blow through it like its Contra.
It is my favorite in the Zelda series, and I never thought it was a bad game. I like the palaces in it. They were way more fun than the overhead maps in Zelda 1.
Plus, the music kicked ass.

Zelda II was my first game in the series I played, and I always thought it was pretty awesome. I have no idea how the hell I made it through Death Mountain without a problem as a kid, though.

James' rage has really cooled over the years since he started his AVGN character. I don't know if its more of he's just getting more burned out creating AVGN episodes or just that the amount of terrible retro games is just getting harder and harder to find (there are def tons of terrible NES games, but how many did most ppl actually play?)
His last three movies have been just ok to me. The last memorable one that I remember was the Batman and Ghostbusters reviews and they were a long time ago. His Moonwalker review was ok also. To be honest his retrospective on Castlevania was more interesting than his last view Rage Reviews.
Doing Zelda II? Desperate. What next Battletoads? Oh wait he did that. Maybe if were lucky he'll do Gilligan's Island for NES next.

My main complaint for Zelda 2 is the "lives" component and that you can't start inside the palace/cave/dungeon where you died, instead have to trek all the way back to where you were. It gets *really* tedious having to walk to the great palace after you lose all you lives.

I don't think he is desperate not yet, considering he has nearly a complete US NES Game set and has the money to buy more shitty games for other systems, I mean he bought the CD-I and the Zelda games on it those aren't cheap. He also has legions of fans to send him shitty games. Also this is all scripted. I would imagine its getting harder for him to do reviews because hes done most of the games he's grown up with so some reviews are completely new impressions. I would consider him desperate if he didn't have as many games as he does.

Also, he's probably had a fairly consistent stream of requests for a Zelda II review over the years.

I have to admit, I like the reviews for games that pissed him off as a kid more. Dick Tracy and Friday the 13th in particular come off as finally letting off some steam after all those years of frustration.

Oh come on, it isn't THAT far to walk to each palace once you initially reach it. Once you get the hammer from Death Mountain and the raft from the one palace, you can pretty much take roads to most palaces. I also thought you restarted in the Great Palace once you lost all of your lives there.

Who said anything about production level and editing? Your idea of quality and mine are totally different. In fact... Webster defines quality as :a degree or grade of excellence or worth.
While James video are fun to watch in no way shape or form are they the "quality" of the original videos. If you have a problem with people comparing peoples previous works to their present then you need to get over it, peoples opinions are just that opinions. Get over it.

I think thats the whole reason why I say the quality isn't the same. I mean look at his latest review, you can tell that he really enjoys Zelda II but a lot of his fans didn't so he did a review for it. Not a bad review by no means, but nothing with the flair and anger he had for Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde or Friday the 13th.

I checked out James' ebay auctions for this old toys. He had a nice collection, very reminiscent of the ones I had. But if someone bought the figures as a lot, and is now reselling them individually as being "owned" by the AVGN, that someone is a fool!

Wow, he pulled (ebay removed??) several of the auctions. He had about 25-30 listings when I posted the link last night. Not sure what happened.
He spent $125 to purchase the lot from James. Considering everything he sold, how much time he spent putting everything together, taking photos, MAKING A MOVIE, listing the items, shipping the items, I predict the seller will make about -$.03/hr, which is totally worth it.
