I would say that he is getting bored of the Nerd. This last effort was fine. Pure and simple fine. If all his reviews had been like this he wouldn't have lasted beyond the first one.

People post stuff like this after every single AVGN video. Am I the only one who still finds James's videos interesting, entertaining, and hilarious?

"Now *that* is the most embarrassing walk cycle I've ever seen."

"I'd rather play a CD-i game, like...The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe..."

When I watch a new AVGN video, I know exactly what to expect...and that's a good thing. I guess some people want the AVGN to reinvent himself in every new video. To me, that's stupid.

That was a poor choice of game to review. That's happened before, where the game is so dull and pointless there isn't much for him to rant on because it's so obvious. I mean, it's a given, platforming digitized character games were horrible.

I say he'll end it at 100 and that's the last we'll ever see of the Nerd. You may have a point there. There's never been a number on the title card before.

I wasn't saying that I hated it or anything. I still enjoyed it but it wasn't anything special like it was in the past.

To me he is getting bored of the character and his newest video seems rather lackluster.

Here is a post I agree with. Lester the Unlikely is such a boring, terrible game. There really aren't that many "exciting" problems with it. It just controls horribly and has a lousy interface.

But the real question is COULD THIS BE THE REAL VETERAN'S DAY VIDEO OR WILL THERE BE ONE ON NOV 11??????

Gameguy

He doesn't really talk that much about the game, and he doesn't even play through it. It wasn't a bad review but wasn't that great either. He reviewed a horror film every day for October and I enjoyed those reviews more than this one.

I happened to watch a playthrough of Lester the Unlikely a few months ago so there were some parts I was expecting him to comment on, only that never happened. Maybe that's why I was expecting too much.

I still enjoy his videos especially because sometimes the games he reviews come completely out of left field. I had never heard of either of the games he talked about this week and found it pretty amusing to see him talk about both.

I think people's expectations for these might be a bit too high. Not every game sets itself up for an epic review, but that's okay.

I guess no one read the post where James said this month's video was going to be a simple one due to all the time he spent on Monster Madness? James is definitely not getting bored of the nerd, especially considering his recent video about a Nerd movie when he openly stated, "I am not running out of ideas" and "I am not getting bored of the nerd". I don't see how this is even a debate.

What Pezcore said. I'm consistently amazed by the constant critiques and pessimistic speculation surrounding the AVGN here, but hey, whatever. Everyone's still watching James' videos.

I think classic video gaming has just gotten boring for him right now. It has happened to me and it happens to alot of people here from time to time. I like his monster madness stuff but sometimes its just too obscure for my taste.

Classic Nerd for me is up until the SMB3/Wizard review. That was the crowning jewel of the nerd character along with the Nintendo Power episode. The quality then started to dip around Indiana Jones with the only notable gem being the Dick Tracy review. A slew of below average videos filled 2009;the worst year of the nerd in my opinion.

Only recent videos I have enjoyed in the Modern Nerd age are Zelda II/Back to the Future Revisited/Street Fighter 2010.

Also maybe its just me but I like his old house better, the basement in his current house looks cramped or something. The old place looked more like a bachelor pad as evident from the Rocky review. Seems like his wife has him and his toys cramped up in the basement.

Double those sentiments. Dude must be getting really busy promo-ing or simply exhausted from work up until the recent fallout of new content. Failing those he's lazy, oh well, I'm not one to speculate. Hopefully 2011 brings back the ways of the old nerd.

I'm usually not happy to be wrong, but in this case I certainly am. I loved the Christmas video, especially as a big fan of the Grinch cartoon.

I was not pointing the finger at that, just offering hypothesis. I suppose what really has occured is that the AVGN has shifted slightly away from the AVGN in terms of content. He still has regular output, just not in my particular interest.

It's hard to believe he's been doing this for 5 years now, pretty much on a regular basis with some fantastic output. I do wonder if the show and him would benefit from a short break, maybe release something around April time and take a few months away to recharge, gain new ideas etc

Gee, I completely missed the Tornado Rex one until just now. I guess he was trying to replicate the feeling of an old-timey pre-teen squabble? I think he succeeded in that respect.

I actually remember the jingle from the commercial; it's hardly a game that needs another new song.

Also, I'm impressed that the tornado was built sturdily enough to resist being busted entirely through overwinding.

Daydreamin' Davey wasn't one of his better reviews. James doesn't really seem as into reviewing old games anymore, IMO.

He totally lacks any passion, and makes obvious mistakes (calling ancient Greece "Rome" in this last video, for instance).

Maybe he should call it quits soon.
