AVGN: Kid KoolNever played this, is it really so much worse than Psycho Fox?

I really enjoyed the most recent AVGN video. I understand why it takes so long for him to make new episodes - between how long it takes just to make it and the movie he's working on - but still, I always find myself wishing for more.
Anyway, it is pretty bad, mainly because the game design is horrendous, which makes the control seem bad. The scrolling on jumping, air-puffs, water-skipping, etc. are a pain because they're not properly executed. The scrolling up and down happens at the worse-possible time (ALWAYS when there's enemies below you), air-puffs come in mobs, and the water-skipping is far too common.
It would've been a great game based on the ideas/concept if placed in the hands of a better producer, like Capcom. But Vic Tokai also produced a very fun game, The Krion Conquest, so who knows?
So basically it's a mediocre game, but not awful.

I liked it, for what it was worth, with him busy and all. You can tell he was pressed for time, sitting in one spot for the visual part of the Nerd. All in all, a lot like a 2006/7 episode, and that'll do for now, since his last episode was what, march? (Not counting Barbie/making of AVGN). And yeah, i see hair loss is more apparent now.

BTW, Kid Kool clearly rips off backgrounds and sprites from Super Mario Bros. games.

The latest AVGN episode Kid Kool was awesome. I enjoyed the seven deadly sins aspect, and the game itself is truly piss poor. The vertical jumping with scrolling screen is unforgivable, and the designers should have known better.
I don't mind an occasional guest on his show, I found Jason and the Ninja from Ninja Gaiden to be really funny. But overall, I prefer this standard type of game focused avgn review, and this one delivered the goods. The other versions of the game like Psycho Fox may be decent game, but the Nerd is right about Kid Kool. It's a horrible clone of that game, with awful game flaws. The Dr. Claw part had me rolling on the floor and wishing the game actually existed. Someone make it! Once again Amazing video from the Nerd!

Wow, AVGN made Kid Kool out to be almost as bad as Superman 64... and that's what he's known for. To be fair this didn't look like a mediocre game in the first place, it looked like it was already pretty bad. This was a pretty good AVGN episode. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Believe me or not, I just kinda knew watching this that (1) those were probably fake carts and (2) they would be smashed only to have it revealed at the end that the smashed carts were fakes.
It was one of his better videos of late and pretty funny. Really enjoyed it. I didn't realize the games on those carts were just dirt common NES games. As a casual NES gamer/collector, I don't see the appeal of these carts for the prices they go for but hell, I AM an huge Atari fan but would never pay a fraction of $32,000 for a boxed Air Raid either so. . .

I honestly was not expecting to see a gold NWC cart in this video, but I figured it belonged to Pat as soon as I saw it. The blue repro cart in the video belongs to the AVGN. He's had it for awhile as I remember when he first put it up on his video game checklist a couple of years ago. That NWC 1990 poster you could see in the video that he had up on his wall was originally packaged in with the repro cart.

That's nonsense. You give nowhere near enough credit to modern gamers. I do agree to an extent, quite a few of his viewers I've noticed are, in fact, younger gamers and aren't very experienced (if at all) with classic titles. It's these same people who generally go around spreading how "shit" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Castlevania II and a select other few games he's reviewed that were actually decent at the very least, but never really see the game for themselves. TMNT was not a bad game, in fact, I liked it. It was definitely a brutal game but part of it was strategy, figuring out which Turtle was best for what part. Castlevania II was actually pretty good, translation errors aside, it spawned a favorite among most CV fans, Symphony of the Night. Never cared for that one myself, just sayin' haha :P
But it's these same people who boast how terrible E.T. really is, but.. In all honesty? I personally don't think it's -that- bad, it almost seems like any other mediocre Atari game to me. When you know what to do, it's playable. Sure, there's a few glitches, there's the annoyances and there's all the holes everywhere, but you know how I see that? That's challenge. It pisses you off, and when something like that pisses you off in a game, that's a challenge to me. I'm all for challenge. Let's face it, there are FAR worse games out there, on and outside the Atari. Far, far, far worse games. I think some of these more younger fans that're more impressionable by what he and other reviewers like him say should really try to discover for themselves and try to have their own opinion on these games, they might find they're really enjoyable little gems.

I just genuinely dislike the guy and his brand of "humour". I know he's going for that angry comedian thing but he really just comes across as a whiny brat. The constant complaining is just too much for me. It seems like if you hate a game that much why spend all this time making a video about it. I guess a lot of people like his videos but I really have no interest in watching some guy complain on camera.

I like the Nerd, but I dislike it when he does "history" videos. He seems to forget that much of his audience are video game nerds who are already well aware of the history behind the consoles.
I actually enjoy his "history" videos more then most of his other shows. I was never even aware of things like the Intelivision, Collecovision, or Odyssey before his videos on them. I would say that even though he might not have every single detail right, it did spark some interest in game consoles I either wasn't aware of or had little knowledge of before.
Now granted the AVGN was primarily what sparked me to get into retro gaming in the first place so maybe I have a unique perspective in this. I was a gamer but had gotten rid of all of my "classic" systems years before and his history videos in particular made me interested in what I missed out on along with my own personal favorites.
Yet you're both posting in a thread dedicated to the guy... interesting...
If you read the thread title, it is "The Official Angry Video Game Nerd Discussion Thread". I do not enjoy his stuff, no reason why that cannot be included in part of a discussion thread. So it make sense for someone to come to this website for the sole purpose of talking about how much they hate playing video games? Some things are implied--we don't call Digital Press "The Official Worship Thread Dedicated to the Video Games" but most intelligent people can figure it out.

You are missing my point, although I believe that you know what I am driving at.
The thread regarding the AVGN is just one thread on a whole forum dedicated to videogames. I do not seek out whole websites dedicated to the AVGN or anything like that, and if I did, perhaps I would understand your analogy. This is not the case though. I see nothing unreasonable or strange about someone popping into a thread occasionally, one of a large sea of threads, dedicated to an online show that the poster does not find particularly funny. I am the type of person who doesn’t judge --- I just like to know the thought processes behind people and what not. I may not care for the AVGN, but it is interesting to read what others have to say about him, those who do enjoy his movies. Nothing wrong with this, and I am not evening trolling either. I just stated my opinion and left it at that.
Back to the discussion issue. If there was a thread related to a video game, say Super Mario Bros. 3 for example. It seems unreasonable that people who have played (yet do not enjoy) Super Mario Bros. 3 should be excluded from the discussion, just because it goes against the majority of the opinions. If someone says “I hate Super Mario Bros.3 because it sucks, it is just so stupid”, that is really not offering much to the conversation. On the other hand, if someone dislikes the game because the original does not have a save feature, and it is so long, then I can understand this as a reasonable and valid point.
I personally do not like the Angry Video Game Nerd’s movies because he just seems so juvenile in the films.

Yeah, I always figured he was just acting, trying to make his comments over-the-top so that others would find it funny.
In person, he's a very humble, reserved, quiet, shy guy. The "character" is not something he made up overnight, it's simply how he acts when frustrated with video games. Or at least how he did as a kid, like many of us did. His old home movies prove that, which is why I find them funny too. AVGN is really no different than say Pee-Wee Herman, an adult who behaved like a child, and made us all laugh.

I realize it's an act, and AVGN is a character that he plays. I just dislike the character. Just like I disliked Jar Jar in the Star Wars Episode 1. I'm not sure what he's like in real life, I may or may not like him, can't really say. The ranting comedy does nothing to amuse me, so I don't like him.
Eitherway, saying you dislike something and giving a reason for it falls under discussion. If you don't like my opinion, then well, deal with it. That's your problem. There are plenty of discussion threads on here about all sorts of subjects where people post their likes and dislikes of them.
