well still nothing new out but aside from electroplankton the other dates c hanged in the main post so i'll have to change them in the next hour or so (getting off the comp for a bit before I do though)

I've caught up in collection a bit (helps having birthday and christmas 5 days apart)

I have a all the ds games out except for four now

I dont have
-Madden 06 (waiting to get it really cheap)
-Harry potter (most likely never unless its 5 dollars or less and the only ds game I dont own)
-Kim possible (prolly never or for a long time)
-Sponge bob (i'll pick it up at around 19.99)

not too much new in my collection...

i've used this hiatus to pick up some extra promo things... got a few more nintendogs plushes (just missing the chihuahua now!) and a complete set the nintendogs trading cards. i just won an ebay auction for the mario kart wrist strap and decals since i probably won't pick up the actual DS bundle.

mostly, i've been using the time to actually PLAY the games. go figure...

Has anyone had a hard time finding Snood 2? I've only seen one copy which I picked up at my local Best Buy for $10 bucks.

It got pretty bad reviews, and I haven't seen it anywhere other than Best Buy. The publisher is a small company. Possible potential future rarity?

DocRamon

it seems to have a smaller production run than something like mario kart... but i wouldn't say it's hard to find...

amazon has it shipping right now, and i've seen it at a ton of stores... walmart, target, toys r us, best buy, ebgames...

but because of production numbers, it could *possibly* be rare at some point... it's not one i'd call out as the most likely candidate though.

I edited the main post yesterday I found a few errors and counted mario kart twice, there are only 92 ds games currently.

As for snood - my bestbuy has literally 20+ copies of it so it isnt that rare in my area at least currently.

To be honest I have found that kim possible is somewhat rare in my area its not exactly a budget game in the same manner as like ford racing 3 or space invaders yet it seems to be harder to find than both of those games.

I'd say kim possible is probably one of the "rarest" new releases - thats not to say its rare, its just the "rarest" in my area of DS games that came out in the last 3 months.

I did pickup spongebob today though for 20 bucks at bestbuy, that puts me at 89/92 DS games

Only lacking:
-harry potter (lol waiting a long time for it)
-madden 06 (waiting till a big price drop as well)
-Kim possible (this will be my next target aside from games that come out next week - i'll prolly get kim possible if I can find it for 20 dollars new)

so did any of you guys order the pokepark ds?

i've been tempted to, but haven't yet. my main focus has always been on the games, and anything else that i acquire is just fun extras... it's just such good little collector's item though. not for the actual console (which is crap) but for the limited availability. i probably won't get it, but kudos to those who do.

oh... and what about that one guy's 6 crystal studded DS systems? anyone pick one of those up? if he had gotten them a month ago, i would have jumped on one right away, but with games starting up again now, $500 is just too much to drop on another DS when my main focus is the actual games.

^I agree games are my primary focus too above consoles (which is why I got the nintendogs DS as opposed to ever buying an electric blue one)

As for that walmart exclusive DS, I have too many doubts about it to get it. It's probably just a re-packaged / resealed japanese model. I honestly dont remember ever hearing anything about it from nintendo and that is why I have that suspicion.

Anyway as for the diamond DS - now that is something I wouldnt mind owning. I just cant rationalize paying that much for a portable system I already have more than one of.

I'll stick to waiting for my local stores to get copies of nicktoons unite in lol.

so did any of you guys order the pokepark ds?

I did :-P

I just want to say again, that the DS will be my first "complete" system collection, so I wasn't really prepared for what that entailed.

Apparently for me it involves getting every color system (preferably ones that are bundled with a game) and every game release thats available for sale in the US (plus an little collector extras) @_@

So, in addition to the 5 systems I already had (see pic in this thread) I will now have a sixth system (the pokepark one) :eek 2:

The way I see it is this...it may indeed just be the Japanese system in new packaging, or maybe not new packaging at all...and even though I'm not collection the Japanese systems, this one is being made available through a US retailer (and not an import store). So to me, it counts as a US released color/special system.

Now, back to the games...at the moment I am missing 8 games from a complete set. Thankfully it looks like January will be a pretty slow month for releases and I may be able to get caught up.

And finally...yes, I am crazy LOL

i'm on the exact same page as xmagxus...

not looking to get all the consoles, just all the games. like him, i bought a teal DS, but skipped on electric blue, pearl pink, and hot rod red. that's not to say that i won't ever pick up any additional colors... but pokepark certainly isn't gonna be it.

and seeing as how the pokepark ds REALLY seems to be the japanese one made available via walmart, i'm not so sure it's appropriate to call it "exclusive" anymore. walmart just became a well-known importer of the system, that's all. however, i do agree with drexel that it now counts as an american released console.

the DS is my first complete game collection as well, and i too started with the lofty goals of drexel... every game and every console... everything! but i gave up on the console idea after really looking into it.

perhaps i'm just too obsessive about it, but i'd really want every color. that would include the japanese colors. that would include the japanese mew pink and pepsi blue ones that dbiersdorf mentioned. sadly, it would also include some of the REALLY rare ones... the "hot summer" prizes given out in japan. the one-of-a-kind electroplankton one that belongs to Toshio Iwai. the 50 cent "G Unit" DS that was made especially for him... which, let's be honest, if you ever own that DS you're being hunted. it's too much.

and sure, you could say "all american retail releases" similar to what most of us are doing with games... but even that becomes too much. cause by your rules (made available by a US retailer that's not an import store) all those crystal DS systems are needed for a complete collection since they're carred by the nintendo world store.

i'm not trying to turn you away from it. if anything, seeing how massive of an undertaking it is will make it all the more impressive when you finish. i'm just explaining where i'm at with console colors. i learned early that it was going to be impossible to accomplish, whereas games are more readily available by nature. i'm hoping you understand that.

i still want one of the crystal ones though. that's just too much to spend right now.

Well there does have to be some extra boundries set in place for it to work ;)

I look at those crystal DS systems as more of an after market mod then a real release. Since they aren't manufactured that way, they don't really count IMO. To me, it would be the same as if I spray painted one of the my DS's green and sold it on ebay as a one of a kind version. It doesn't even have any special packaging...I believe they kept the original boxes (with the original colors plain to see). Now, of course that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have one...but at the price they sell for I just can't justify it.

The second boundry I put into place was that I would try and get only one of each color (with the intent to try and get ones with pack-ins). This stopped me from having to buy 2 Electric Blue systems...one plain by itself and one with the Mario 64 pack in. Now, in the future I may end up buying colors over...say if they released a game packed in with a plain silver DS, but we'll cross that bridge when I get there ;)

So just to clarify the situation...I am crazy, but I'm not that crazy LOL

DocRamon
01-10-2006, 11:22 PM
fair enough... i can understand that point of view...

i love to hear how people justify the boundaries on their collections... makes me feel better about my own boundaries, and gives me ideas for the future!

While I'm not going for a complete DS collection yet -- although it seems I'm well on my way from getting good deals and picking up what I really am interested in -- a boundary that I am setting for myself is only to collect games released to the market. So, while I really want to get a copy of Metroid Prime Demo, I never will feel the need to get the Zelda demo. And one copy is probably enough, as the Wal-Mart version of Super Mario Brothers and the four versions of Nintendogs will probably be four games (I have the Best Friends Nintendogs, that's enough for now) I get.

That's just me. I'm pretty much never a hardware guy -- I just go after games like crazy!

Got my Pokepark system today in the mail. The system is definitely the Japanese version...the code on the box ends in JPN and it has Japanese writing on the bottom of the box. But there are some small changes. They put a new (sticker) barcode over the existing one. Also, inside they include all the paperwork for an American system (all with codes that end with USA).

So at least its not exactly the same ;)

Sounds a lot like the US Sonic for Sega Master System. It's an official U.S. release people! Make note of that in the rarity guide "Digital Press Super Future Edition"

EDIT: looks like the release date slipped, but some sellers list it as available or backordered anyway...

DocRamon

lots to respond to today...

my boundary is only getting games released to the market as well... i just picked up the zelda trailer cause it's cool. but i don't feel the need to find kiosk demos or anything like that. although, if someone happened to offer one to me for the right price i wouldn't turn it down. those are just little extras for me... not essential. same with the systems. whatever i can get is great, but i'm not going to lose sleep over missing out on them.

mario 64 or mario kart in a paper sleeve... those are just packaging variants. don't care about that. the 4 versions of nintendogs actually have (slightly) different content on the card, so i got'em all.

Drexel... that's pretty much what i was assuming the pokepark DS would be... japanese unit with american paperwork. makes me feel good that i'm not missing out on something too important. is it the exact same color as the electric blue?

capybara... yeah, i knew about the graphite DS at the nintendo world store. it's just the japanese units being sold at a higher price than the american ones. they've been selling these since about september-ish. back then they had gotten the pure white one too, but it hasn't been there for months now. for some reason they continue to get graphites though, and apparently they sell decently. still, pictures would be nice. can't ever get enough of the nintendo world store pics!

MP3 attachment (assuming you mean play-yan?) probably isn't coming out over here... but i said that about a lot of things... electroplankton... pokepark ds... and i'm always proven wrong. still, i wouldn't hold your breath.

big mutha truckers isn't out. some retailers DO list it as being available, but they tend to be shady places that list a lot of dates incorrectly, don't specialize in games, and most likely don't know what they're talking about. the game was pushed back several times, and eventually pushed back indefinitely. some places are even calling it canceled. hard to really tell what's going on with it... but it's not out for DS yet... at least not in the US. europe might have it.

Drexel923

It's very close to the Electric Blue...though for some reason it looks a little darker...could just be the lighting? I also forgot to mention that it has a US warning sticker on the bottom of the box too (just in case anyone was wondering ;)).

I'm actually happy that they at least made some changes to it...so I don't have to question myself over it...though even if it was exactly the same I guess I wouldn't have minded.

As far as Big Mutha Truckers goes, I thought it was suppose to come out in November but it just didn't happen. I haven't heard anything about it...its obviously been delayed, but I've seen no news on how long or if it's been cancelled. Personally I can't imagine it being very good so I say keep it gone, but we'll see.

It was poorly translated and its based on a crappy cartoon but the gameplay is really fun for a portable game lol.

Wow...not to be a dick about it, but I didn't know that I should back away from every eBay auction your bidding on.

I'd wouldn't be pissed if you won the auction over me.

Now, I did not see the second Wario Demo, HOWEVER, if I did, I would have bid on that one instead of the one you were bidding on. In fact, I had these auctions marked for days so I was only focused on those. So sorry about that.

Ok...double my bad on that one.

I didn't even notice it was the same guy with both demos.

I literally had them bookmarked (1 Wario, and the other 2) and completely forgot about them until 3 minutes before the end. So I really wasn't aware of the second auction and kind of scrambiling to get a decent bid in.

Once again, if I had noticed the other auction I would have bid on that one instead...sorry.

DocRamon

really no need to be sorry... i got a kick out of it quite frankly...

i had them all bookmarked, and after getting the high bid on the second WW, i was watching the first one, figuring that someone would bid on it before mine because of the price... when the first one ended, i went back to watch me win mine for $17, refreshed the page and saw your name... i actually laughed out loud...

not sure why, but i honestly never expected to see any of you guys bidding. i should have.

anyway, when i lost the WW one, it caught me off guard and i scrambled to get meteos... barely got the bid in on time, and it's about $10 more than i wanted to pay... but at least i walked away with one of them.

really wasn't trying to be rude... i thought it was funny.

yeah thats correct. I'm annoyed that f inding nemo appeared out of nowhere pretty much i was hoping it would be delayed but it looks like it wont be now. So many good games coming out this month. I'm currently 3 games from a complete collection but soon i'll be 6 from a complete collection since i'm more concerned about getting the ps 2rpgs this month and street fighter for psp (so i can get the special controller attachment for my psp)

Games for this week
Age of Empires: The Age of Kings

101 DS games available in the US now counting age of empires as the most recent release.

Other recent releases are:

The rub rabbits
Finding nemo
Resident evil DS
Tamagotchi

I'm sitting at 99 out of 101 US DS releases now (I picked up finding nemo, rub rabbits, and age of empires today)

The only two I lack are the same ones i have lacked for awhile due to lack of interest - Madden 06 and Harry Potter.

Anyone have any info on this? I wonder if they are just giving away a copy of the game or if it's another packin (I hope its the first).

On a seperate note, I ordered a few more games and am now at 99 (including imports and metroid demo). Hopefully I can find some more good deals and get caught up soon.

You guys are insane! :eek 2:

I have 5 DS games and I only have a list of 15 that I could possibly ever want(that are already out) and honestly most of those I know I won't be getting, they just arn't good enough.

I'm hoping that their are some of you here that collect only the good games. I'll feel all alone if their isn't.

If you want a complete collection, you gotta collect the crap.

I too only buy the good games for the system (or ones I have interest in, Sprung isn't exactly considered good) , I'm at about 18 games so far and I need to get around 7 more.

Only the super rich have money to throw away on a complete collection. I wouldn't want a complete collection, even if I was a millionare, most of the DS games aren't that appealing especially Disney/film ones. *_*

I'm also in this boat of buying only the games that interest me. I currently have 18 games, and there are about 5 or 6 more that I want at the moment.

I'd eventually like to get a complete collection, but my budget just doesn't allow it right now. Hats off to the guys that can go for it though.

I'd hardly say that I'm super rich.

Most of my collection has been found through sales and just good hunting. I definitely do not pay retail price for every game released (in fact I only do for the titles I really really want).

Would you say the same thing about any of complete system collectors out there (NES, Genesis, etc). By your reasoning even anyone who collects anything would have to be super rich...I saw a guy who collects every piece of Planters memorabilia out there...he must be loaded.

I see the positive side of collecting, especially if you're into it, but if the estimated value of a DS collecting is $2,000+...

You'd have to spend at least half of that. I don't have that kind of money, and you'd have to be pretty well off to afford it. Considering it is what it is - a collection of games.

I'm not knocking it. I just personally think you have to be a fanatical person to spend all that money.

In no particular order

Pheonix Wright, Elf Bowling 1 & 2, Bust-a-Move DS, Electroplankton (obviously), SBK: Snowboard Kids DS (never seen it in stores).

Once again I'll have to disagree. Say I've spent $1000 on DS games...thats over a span of about 15 months (since the DS was released). So that averages to around $66 a month...I'd hardly call that unreasonable for any person with a job...heck, even if we bumped it to $100 a month, I'd still say that almost anyone here could afford it.

As for me (and other DS collectors) being fanatical people...you better get used to that opinion if your going to be hanging around here much longer. I know people on this site who spend way more a month on games than I do, striving to have complete library collections of every system ever made...with some of the games they desire being $100+ to $1000+ a piece. Personally for eveything other than the DS, I collect only games I enjoy...I just love the DS system so much, that I think it would be a nice collection to go for. But I'm not going to go on and on about collecting vs gaming...use the search feature and you will see that the discussion has been beaten to death.

But once again...collecting does not happen overnight...you don't just wake up and say "I think I'm going to drop $2000 and get all the games for ____ system"...most people, including myself, collect slowly waiting for deals to arise. If we didn't, then we wouldn't be able to afford to do so at all...in other words, you would indeed have to be rich. But as I said, most people here are not, they just know how to pace themselves.

damn....ive seen all of those in multiple quantities ('cept electroplankton, but i have that anyway) in stores new and used before....i guess i should have gotten them when i had the chance....now i just dont have the money until i either start working again in the summer or sell my car sound system (hopefully this will happen over spring break bc a kid has $350 of the $500 I want and he said he is pretty sure he can get the other $150 over break....)

If the DS becomes anything like the Gameboy then games releases will become more and more frequent, and I can see people running into a rough spot. But I think it's cool, good luck. I'm personally trying to collect every single NGPC game. I have 5 so far. LOL I hope I can make it to the end.

Wow! Thats a great amount to spend each month considering how many DS games you've acquired!

Nick is hardcore for DS, so a slightly higher amount of money on DS love is all good. Stop the hate. There are other people who spend gobs more dough than he does.

We're up to 51. Have pretty much all the worthwhile games, and fill the rest out with junk. Keep in mind, I am also in Nick's boat - anything junky I paid $15 for, tops. TRU closing, KMart closing, TRU sales, etc probably accomodated 25% of the games I have.

I admit, I really like the system, so I paid full price for a lot of it. Sure, I could have paid $5 for Pac Pix at the closing TRU, but the game is so damn awesome it was worth it for $30.

lost my internet connection at home, so i've been away for a bit... right now i'm stealing online time from a friend... but i wish i could have been around more for all this...

first of all, i think it's hard to really peg the 'rarest' DS games right now, because i've found that it's typically a regional thing. nearly all games are easy to find if you know where to look for them, with exception of phoenix wright and nintendogs best friends. everything else might take some hunting, but i guarantee you could find it.

as for being "super-rich" or whatever. i DO pay full price for my games, usually because i'm not patient enough to wait for price drops and i'm too lazy to track down deals. but i'm certainly not rich by any means. i spend money on bills, food, gas, and games. that's really it.

but people act like it takes SO much income to collect. it really does not. i have a good job. my wife has a good job. being in a 2-income household helps. but really, the money required to collect, even "hardcore" collect and pay full price... it's not unreasonable.

as for my collection... i'm still caught up. i've got all the US released games (am i still the only one here?) plus the iffy ones like the metroid demo and the zelda trailer. i've got a silver and a teal system. a friend is visiting from japan in a couple weeks, so he's picking up an enamel lite for me. i've got a ton of styluses and stylus holders, wriststraps, weird promo things... still not super-rich though.

oh... and the animal crossing bundle... pretty sure it's like the mario one, drexel... yep, you'll have to buy it. :)
