I made this thread a few months back on the classic gaming board but recently made a recount of all the games available for the DS now that the november madness has ended.
There are currently 94 US released DS games (not counting the metroid prime demo, the wal-mart variants, and the zelda trailer - those arent included in this list) - this list does include ping pals which is technically a game and it included the limited edition nintendogs: best friends edition found only in the teal and pink DS sets.
I currently own 90 of the 94 DS releases though tomorrow
Below is the complete US release list (partially in alphabetical order but many are not since I added to this list after the fact) I've broken it down into games I own and games I do not own, but its the complete list so other users can take the list and divide the games in the same way with what they own and do not own.

Wait, if you don't get the Harry Potter game, then there's no point in trying to complete a DS collection since you'll never have a complete collection without that one game.

Oh Iam not interested in having a TOTALLY complete collection I am perfectly ok on having a 99 percent completion, though yeah the only way I will get harry potter is if someone buys it for me.
I made this thread to see how other peoples DS collection was coming along.

I have 55 games for DS so far, but I have not tried to collect them as of yet. I eventually will do that. I am never going to collect the Wal Mart variants, and I'm still debating on whether or not to sell Zelda Twilight Princess demo.

Just counted yesterday, 31 so far, 32 when i buy lost in blue sometime this week.
Also, what is this zelda demo you are talking about? Is there anywhere online i can see a picture of it? How and where was it available?

Unless you are going for completion, absolutely avoid Need for Speed: Most Wanted. In my opinion, it beats Checkered Flag on the Jaguar for the worst looking, worst playing racing game ever.
Thank god I bought it in a buy-one, get-one with Sims 2, which has been a pretty fun game so far.

I would also want to know what this Zelda Demo thing is? I have seen people talk about it alot. Oh and really don't see the point in not buying Harry Potter if you already have almost all the other games. I think you would look more dumb buying Ping Pals and Sprung honestly, but It would just piss me off if that was the one game I was missing but nice collection anyway.

If I'm not mistaken, these were the pack-in games that just Wal*Mart had with the systems for a short period. Also, if I'm not mistaken Mario DS was the only one, although if there were more I wouldn't really know. I have seen Mario DS at a couple places in a paper Nintendogs Best Friends-style case.

i'm complete (including the metroid demo and the zelda trailer, and i also have the japanese electroplankton) except for bust-a-move, which i haven't been able to find yet... hopefully i'll spot it later this week when i pick up monopoly/boggle/yahtzee/battleship.

^ well bust a move, golden nugget casino, monster trucks, atv quad frenzy, and texas hold'em all are pretty hard to find right now, bust a move just came out and the others dont even exist at gamestop or ebgames - the best place to get DS games is at amazon Thats where I picked up monster trucks and such.
DocRamon
12-13-2005, 12:46 AM
i try not to order online... shipping+tax gets expensive, especially from amazon, and i like to make sure the case is in good condition before actually purchasing... ordering online has screwed me over in the quality before...
all games are pretty easy to find right now actually, as long as you don't restrict yourself to ebgames and gamestop... just cause they don't carry them doesn't mean a bunch of other places don't!
golden nugget, texas hold'em, and monster trucks i've seen at toys r us and kbtoys.
atv quad frenzy is actually all over the place... target, toys r us, kbtoys... circuit city even gave it away free with the purchase of a DS during black friday sales.
i'm sure if i hold out until later this week, or this coming weekend, bust-a-move will be all over the place too.

Well I had no problem finding bust a move but thos eother games I listed surprisingly werent at my local ebgames gamestop, circuit city , compusa, bestbuy, nor toysrus so I had to resort to buying online - my local stores suck for DS games lol yet they keep their psp games religiously updated.
My interest in PSP has kinda fizzled out though i only buy games that are unique and fun to play for the psp now - rpgs mainly and some other things like ghost in the shell which was only 20 bucks.
Also I did some research - animaniacs comes ou in mid january now - i've seen a lot of conflicting data on it but january seems to be the most universally accepted date for it - im glad it wasnt cancelled.

My brain works better in chronological order. I organize all my games in order of when I purchased them - I find the games I am looking for rather easily with that system and its easier to just put games away when I buy em than reorganizing every time ;p Just how my brain works Isuppose.
As for the list i typed here - it was partially alphabetical but also partially chronological - it was a mix of what i had in my ign page which was alphabetical and a mix of wha tI hadnt put in my ign page yet which was chronological of purchase times.
kinda strange i know ;p

DocRamon
12-18-2005, 01:07 AM
92 regular retail releases, yes...
as with any collection, the number changes when you start adding in demos and the zelda trailer, stuff like that... depends on what you're including in your collection.
xmagxus
12-18-2005, 09:10 AM
Thats why for the sake of ease I just decided for this particular thread to just count retail release of full games + exclusive pack-in games (but not variants) the only exclusive pack-in game though is nintendogs:best friends.
As you said the numbers change depending on what demos are counted by each collector etc, thats why i just tried to make a general list that could easily be applied to everyone without getting into the hardcore details like the nintendo hand and such ;p(which I do agree counts as part of the collection as does the zelda trailer and such, i just dont count it for this list (the retail release list)
DocRamon
12-18-2005, 11:13 AM
yeah... i agree...
for a "complete" collection, you should just be going for the retail releases. additional things (demos, zelda trailer, etc.) are just icing on the cake... fun little bonus things to make a collection even better!
although, i've always wondered if the metroid demo should be included, seeing as how it WAS made available at regular retail, very similar to the nintendogs best friends pack-in. and it's not just any old demo game, it actually carries a somewhat separate title ("first hunt").
Capybara554321

make a poll to see what everyone has to say. i say if nintendogs best friend edt counts then so does MP first hunt. but zelda trailer probably shouldent maybe should make a seperate list for the games in paper sleeves and such.

Look at it this way. Is Nintendogs: Best Friends a complete game? Answer yes. It just gives a different dog set than the other games. (If we wanna be anal the Pokemon blue/red along with the 3 nintendogs would all just be 1 game, since the characters in each of them are all obtainable with enough playing/linking.)
Prime Hunters is a demo. Its not a full game, it gives you a very restricted amount of playability, hell its been over a year and the game still isnt out yet. Its a demo of whats to come, all be it a packaged demo.

going by that logic... i'd have a hard time calling electroplankton a game... not really a game in the traditional sense, restricted playability, plays like a demo of the DS capabilities...

12-19-2005, 12:46 AM
Well the DS is weird like that.
I count ping pals as a game on the DS as far as being part of the 92 released retail games.
ping pals isnt really a game but its sold like it is one the reason I count nintendogs: best friends is even though it is only obtainable through a DS bundle that no longer exists it was still sold as a retail release game just exclusively through that bundle, while itis a full game it is basically nintendogs: dachshund for all practical purposes just different starting dogs.
Metroid prime hunters first hunt is a demo that was packaged in the same way nintendogs: best friends was but its not really a full release thats why I dont count it as a DS title personally.
I also dont count xbox LIVE arcade titles as part of the 360 release list either even though they are full games they are not sold in stores as a full game for that specific system be it through a bundle or as a standalone title - they are download only.
xmagxus
12-19-2005, 12:50 AM
Additional thought:
The metroid prime: first hunt demo is really a split decision I've found.
A lot of people count it as part of their collection, I personally dont but it really depends on who you ask.
If metroid prime: first hunt were a tech demo or something that had the gameplay it currently has i'd probably be inclined to include it in the list but since in 2006 we will be seeing a more complete version of the game its hard for me to list it as part of the release list.
I think when the full game comes out it would be kinda confusing to some people to list the collection as
"metroid prime: first hunt"
"Metroid prime hunters"
People that didnt give the DS any attention in the early days would think it was a metroid zero mission type deal and think they are two different games entirely. thats why ive found it easier just to label it as a demo even though as far as demos come it has a lot of depth to it compared to other demos.
DocRamon
12-19-2005, 01:11 AM
for the record... on their very own website, nintendo lists the metroid demo and the full release separately, as two different titles. and you know in the future, when we get a press release touting "over 200 games now available for the DS!" the folks at NOA will surely be including first hunt in their tally.
you know what won't be included? other demos and the zelda trailer.
just something to think about.
philosophyst
12-19-2005, 01:21 AM
Just wondering if anyone thinks any DS title is either hard-to-find now or has potential to be a "rare" title in the future? Are all DS titles still being produced?
Of course, this isn't considering the Zelda Trailer, Nintendogs Bark Mode or anything like that. I'm mainly just talking about regular releases.
Slipdeath
12-19-2005, 01:44 AM
In that case best friends was added as a "packed in game" . While first hunt was advertised as a "included playable demo". NOA's lists are all confusing anyways, they're missing a bunch of games and they sometimes have wrong info.
xmagxus
12-19-2005, 05:13 AM
phoenix wright has the potential to be rare -not a lot of retailers (outside of the internet) seemed to have gotten this game - at least around where I live.
Trauma center has the potential to be rare as well (atlus game)
The majesco games arent widely talked about either due to majescos current status-
golden nugget casino, monster trucks, etc all have the potential to be rare someday as well.
Currently the only rare game is nintendogs:best friends since itwa sonly obtainable through a now discontinued bundle.
DocRamon
12-20-2005, 01:17 AM
first of all... to continue my argument for adding the metroid demo to the official list... i think people are focusing too much on in-game content, packaging, distribution... video game collector kinda things. think about intent, from nintendo's perspective, a business perspective...
when regular games are released, they're intended to be obtained by consumers. when the best friends version of nintendogs was released, it was intended to be purchased by consumers who bought the bundle. when the metroid demo was released, it was intended to be purchased by consumers who bought a DS. when kiosk demos are released, they're not intended to get out into the public. when the zelda trailer was released, it was given to a select group of privileged individuals, not to the public.
granted, the secondary market has clouded this definition slightly, as items not intended for the public can easily be obtained on ebay or trading boards such as this one. but ultimately, i feel, the inclusion of a game on the "official" complete game list should be based on it's intentions. is it a game that was meant to be obtained by the public. any games sold at retail or given out by nintendo to the public, whether they be part of a bundle or sold separately, whether they be demos or full games, i think should be included. anything that was never intended to be readily obtained by consumers (most demos and the zelda trailer) should be considered extras, and not a part of the list. just my two cents...
next... rare games? there aren't many right now, but several will likely become rare at some point. depends on how you want to judge rarity. certain titles (monster trucks DS, texas hold'em poker DS, and others) were made in smaller numbers and will become harder to find based on that. other titles (trauma center, phoenix wright, etc.) were probably produced in greater numbers, but are actually good games with a strong fanbase. tough to say what will actually command a high dollar amount in the future though. but xmagxus is correct, the best friends version of nintendogs will likely be a tough one to get since it was only included with a bundle that was available for about a month before being discontinued.
and on that note... no, not all DS titles are still being produced. there's quite a few actually that are OOP now, mostly the earlier games like sprung, pac-pix, madden 05, tiger woods... and honestly, i don't think this has changed their value at all. ping pals isn't in production at the moment, but nobody is bustin down doors for a copy...
xmagxus
12-20-2005, 07:04 AM
I dont really view this as an argument at all like I said its pretty much split down the middle on which people consider it as part of the collection and which people dont.
I could go either way but since I can only choose one I felt that it shouldnt be part of the list.
I dont think its a big deal in keeping it off the list cause pretty much every DS collector likely got a DS at launch so its pretty much like a freebie space on a bingo board for our collections.
I'm fairly sure everyone that has a DS within this thread likely has the metroid prime:first hunt cart so it really just comes down to a matter of preference. even if it is or is not part of the official list a lot of us will put it in our additional notes.
Like in your case you say your list and then also include at the bottom something to the effect of having the twilight princess trailer and such (btw I kinda wish I had a copy of that myself but I will probably never go out of my way getting it ;p - major kudos to all of you ds collectors that have it though :)
xmagxus

additional comments unrelated to the "list"
wow pac-pix is discontinued? im not surprised by the older sports ones being discontinued (still available just no more being made I mean) As for phoenix wright and trauma center - I am not positive how current this is, but a couple months ago I heard the print numbrs for those two games were around 20-25 thousand.
Not low enough to ever be UBER rare but still they can be quite uncommon (unless there were more print runs)
To put that into perspective.
the first version of steel batallion (with original color scheme button design) had 10,000 made - DBZ final bout on ps one had 10,000 made as well (the non atari version) - wizardry on ps2 a relatively rare ps2 rpg had about 25 thousand copies printed - Unison on ps2 had 10,000 etc.
So 25,000 is not really rare but still if there were no more print runs on those games it will definetly become harder to get especially since they are actually good games and will likely be found as "hidden gems of the DS" in some magazine article in not too distant future magazine articles.
I'm kinda surprised castlevania DS isnt too rare based on the GBA castlevanias - perhaps they were prepared for the demand this time.
xmagxus
12-23-2005, 07:13 AM
Well I ended up buying madden 2005 for the DS this was the third least likely game Iwas ever going to buy for the DS - FIFA 06 coming in at 2nd least likely and harry potter being least likely for me to buy (as I am almost certainly never buying that game)
As some of you may or may not know toysrus has quite a nice clearance of games for 10 dollars.
Madden 2005 for the DS happened to be one of those games. While I hate football games as a semi focused DS collector I did pretty much promise myself to buy any of the sports games I lacked if they hit 10 dollars or less.
I suppose this means i'll prolly get fifa 06 and madden 06 for the DS as well before march 06 at this rate if they recieve similar clearances soon.
As for harry potter he can burn in **** lol

ya know, harry potter actually isn't a horrible game... us collectors are certainly buying a lot worse. and i would hope that if you wind up getting everything else, and all you lack is the harry potter titles (i'm pluralizing because you know we'll get one for each movie over the next few years... probably 3 total, assuming they don't make spinoff games like quidditch world cup), i hope you'll pick them up just to be complete.

I know I know lol I might eventually get it perhaps after kim possible, fifa, and madden 06 have dropped to 10 dollars and by then I will probably have all the games out EXCEPT for harry potter.
It's not really about the game for me in this instance - i dont know why but I just really have it out for that whole series no matter how popular it may be lol. Though I suppose if im sitting at a 99.99999 percent collection and I see it for 5-10 dollars it might be really hard to resist getting just for the sake of being complete. From what I can see right now (while I am still missing
need for speed most wanted, fifa 06, madden 06, kim possible, spongebob, and harry potter) I have minimal to no intention of getting harry potter ;p

phoenix wright has the potential to be rare -not a lot of retailers (outside of the internet) seemed to have gotten this game - at least around where I live.
that title might just be ymmv.....im not a huge ds collector, but i do check out the games when i go to eb, gs, etc...and at every store i have seen phoenix wright....

Does anyone have a list like this for the PSP?

^ I used to keep up with the psp a lot more than I currently do - I have a complete US PSP release up to november 7th or so and then I stopped keeping tabs on it.
I'll update the list later tonight when I have the time and see if I can make a nearly complete list for that system as well.
as of the first week of november there were 61 PSP games and I had like 31 at the time yet now I have around 45-50 psp games so I believe the PSP library is around 80ish games now since there are still a lot of sports games I dont have for that system.
