M&M's Break 'Em All was also at Music for a Song in Grove City, PA. So, it's not a Best Buy exclusive.

4/10-13 scheduled releases:
Toon-Doku
And it would appear that the following may be available at retail:
Battleship/Connect 4/Trouble/Sorry
Harlem Globetrotters World Tour DS
Still looking to confirm these at a major retailer...
Thanks,
Steve

I think I saw Harlem Globetrotters at EB yesterday, if that counts as a major retailer. I'll double check tomorrow.

I don't understand why you want to confirm games at major retailers. Some games never go to major retailers.

By "major retailer" I meant GameStop, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart (that type.)
Name one DS game that hasn't been released eventually at one of these stores.
The reason I posted that comment was because pre-ordering from Amazon.com isn't really a confirmation that it's been released.
Also, seeing it at a store that isn't widely available (Music for a Song) doesn't really help many people find it locally.
That's all I meant - but every DS game is/was available at these stores at one time or another.

Nice - thanks.
I still don't understand why they felt the need to release another multi-pak game with Battleship on it. They should have used Risk!

By "major retailer" I meant GameStop, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart (that type.)
I know, that's why I was asking.
I haven't payed enough attention to DS collecting to know of any, but even if there hasn't been one, I bet there will be some. And it's not like every store of every chain gets every release. Like the summitsoft games, I know some FYE's got them, and some didn't seem to. As long as more than one person has a game, it's safe to say it exists and should go on the collection list.
Also, I disagree with this Canada exlusive nonsense that Drexel believes the Franklin DS w/ Plushie bundle is. Besides french language packaging variations/additions, I can't think of one game canada got that the US didn't. This one is just rarer that the rest. I have seen GBA franklin ones around here, so I'm sure there have been DS ones too.

The game Wish Room that you have under announced is merely the name of the Japanese version of Hotel Dusk: Room 215.
That game had been on the EB/GS website for a while and had just disapeared off of it about a week ago and its disapearance and lack of mention anywhere else had my scratching my head something fierce.
I'm still not seeing Cake Mania anywhere out here, nor could I find M&M's / Harlem Globetrotters. I guess that i'll just have to keep scouring the stores.
There have been DS games that havn't made it into the major chain food cycle outside of the 'smaller' chains like TRU (who is much more willing to take a risk on some of these DS games than EB/GS/BB/CC are). I've never seen Princess Natasha anywhere but a TRU and I know that theres some of those really early SummitSoft titles (that poker one and one other I can't think of off the top of my head) that were only ever seen at Fry's or at TRU. Hell you find me a place other than Meijers thats got Mini RC Rally and i'll buy it for you.

Okay, here's a few tidbits that will help.
Every single DS game has been found at one time or another at any of the following stores: Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, TRU, Gamestop/EB Games or Frys.
If anyone can think of a single example, let me know.
My point was that stores that are local, not nationwide (like FYE, or Music for a Song) don't have the buying power to be the sole retailer of a DS game. To that point, even if all of the major retailers don't get that game - I guarantee that at least one of them will.
Franklin DS is not a rare game, and it's readily available here in the US. However, it was the packaging with the plush toy that was called into question.
Canada doesn't have anything on this game, its just the bundle with plush toy that was only seen on a Canadian re-seller website.
I think that some of your points don't really apply, since they aren't consistent with what we know. Then again, you did mention that you haven't paid enough attention to collecting DS... ;)
Don't take offense.

Steve

That game had been on the EB/GS website for a while and had just disapeared off of it about a week ago and its disapearance and lack of mention anywhere else had my scratching my head something fierce.
I have no problem eliminating an "Announced" game - no problem.
I'm still not seeing Cake Mania anywhere out here, nor could I find M&M's / Harlem Globetrotters. I guess that i'll just have to keep scouring the stores.
I bought my Cake Mania at Best Buy on the day it came out, but I've also seen it at Gamestop and Circuit City (as recently as today.)
M&M's Break 'Em All - I have only seen this at Best Buy (two separate locations.) I haven't seen them anywhere else.
There have been DS games that havn't made it into the major chain food cycle outside of the 'smaller' chains like TRU (who is much more willing to take a risk on some of these DS games than EB/GS/BB/CC are). True - I've only seen the Texas Hold 'Em Poker Pack at Frys, but that doesn't mean it wasn't available at other smaller retailers. In fact, I would count on it. Same with Blades of Thunder 2 (which I've seen new at Gamestop), and Mini RC Rally (which I've seen new at Wal-Mart.)
I wish I bought a copy of Mini RC at the time, because it's now gone, and haven't seen it since.
Even if you haven't seen Natasha anywhere but TRU, that's still a major retailer, and strengthens the arguement.
Anyway, I agree that some games will be more difficult to find at retail than others - there's only so much shelf space a store will be willing to give to a title from a smaller distributor.
Should be interesting in months to come...but I'm not an expert by any means.

Alright. I never said that some DS games didn't go to major retailers, just that it shouldn't be assumed because there have been exceptions in the past. I don't understand why you want to confirm games at major retailers and how it would make the list any better. With this train of thought, a game that isn't seen at a major retailer "hasn't come out". You said there haven't been exceptions, and I don't doubt it. But even if it is the case now, the possibility exists that it will happen; it has for many other systems. I'm sorry, but if you can find a game at your local B&M shop, it has been released. Maintaining a games list and helping people find it locally, are two different things.
Also, it seems like you were taking a jab at me and just tried to soften it up with a smilie and a comment saying otherwise.

Oh no, thats not what I meant at all. I just had it listed on a personal list of games to pay attention for and I check on it every week or two as I edit dates, take off new purchases ect, and it had just disapeared off the EB/GS site and I couldn't find any info on it on Amazon or any other major retailer so it had me very curious as to what had happened with it.

Alright. I never said that some DS games didn't go to major retailers, just that it shouldn't be assumed because there have been exceptions in the past.
First of all, I never assumed that it wouldn't happen. In fact, I believe I acknowledged in a previous post that it probably would someday. However, it hasn't happened yet, and part of wanting to confirm it at a major retailer is two-sided - if no one can find a game at a major retailer after a while, perhaps we'll have our first example. Did you ever look at the information that way? It helps in two ways.
I don't understand why you want to confirm games at major retailers and how it would make the list any better. With this train of thought, a game that isn't seen at a major retailer "hasn't come out".
I never said that the list was better off by wanting to confirm the new releases at major retailers. But in essence, it actually does.
Providing a list of titles without the information of where you can get them when the title is released is not a lot of information at all.
If by updating the list AND providing a location (that pretty much everyone has within a reasonable distance of where they live) that you can try to find one is bad, then I'm missing the point of this site that I've been a part of for the last 5 years. By no one being able to confirm a title at a major chain, we can all be more informed.
Listen, what is wrong with trying to be informative and helpful at the same time? If I just provided a game list, that's great. I don't need to do that - I've got my own spreadsheet.
I'm sorry, but if you can find a game at your local B&M shop, it has been released. Maintaining a games list and helping people find it locally, are two different things.
I understood your point - if the game is out, it's out, regardless of location.
I think you misunderstood mine. If the game is out, great. Now let's find it at a retailer that is accessible everywhere. Otherwise, the information is useless. Knowing a new game is available in a location that you can't get to does you no good. Doesn't deny the fact that it might be available, but it's called "cross validation." Billy in New York may be able to find it, but Joe in Texas can't. When they both can, it's safe to say that it's available nationwide.
That's the other reason why I ask to confirm at a "major" retailer.
Again, I'm doing this to help, since I DO collect for the DS.
Also, it seems like you were taking a jab at me and just tried to soften it up with a smilie and a comment saying otherwise.
I did take a little jab at you, for two reasons.
1. You asked a question, but then argued with my answer, without even asking why. You don't collect for the DS, nor do you seem to know enough about it to discuss it thoroughly. So what exactly were you offering by jumping into the fray here? Just looking to start something?
I welcome all suggestions and information - you offered neither.
I'm knowledgeable enough about video game collecting to acknowledge that there are games from small distribution companies that don't get picked up by mailer retailers. That was never my point.
2. I found it interesting that you decided to post a comment that had no bearing on DS collecting (which this thread clearly is about) - and then you admitted to knowing LITTLE about DS collecting.
Again, what was your point in getting involved in the discussion?
Sorry - I tried to lighten it up, but since you asked...
If people don't want help or new information - by all means, I can save myself the time and effort. It's certainly not for my own gratification.

No worries Stu - I didn't take it that way at all.
I would rather remove a title if it doesn't need to be on the announced list, so we don't waste time looking for it. If it was a tentative title, and the final title changed...
GONE!

That's the other reason why I ask to confirm at a "major" retailer.
Again, I'm doing this to help, since I DO collect for the DS.
To answer your question, I made my original comment because I was curious about why you weren't putting games on your "release list" until people said they had gotten them from a major retailer. It seemed odd to me that a few people would find a game and it wouldn't go on your list until later after someone found it at a major chain. Now that you made it clear to me after your most recent post, I understand that the list you have been maintaining is more a tool to help people find the more uncommon games as they are released. I wasn't trying to attack your list, as it is impressive and has clearly been appreciated by many here.
I was going to nit-pick your post above line by line, as I'm sore over a few comments you made and don't want to look like I gave in, but I won't because I really don't want to see this go on any longer; it isn't appropriate or necessary. This spat just arose out of some miscommunication and assumptions on both sides and it ends now.
I know more about DS collecting than you think, I'm not just some troll. I have paid attention to this topic from the begining.
Also, in regards to Franklin from a few posts back: I know the regular game is like every other DS one in distribution, I just thought the bundle should not be regarded as Canada only and deserved a spot on your list. Now I see it needs to be confirmed at a major retailer. This goes back to my original confusion over why it doesn't go on the list until then, if it indeed exists.
I might as well mention this here again, since I am on the topic of rare variants. I think I mentioned it months ago here, but haven't heard about it since. I saw a pokemon mystery dungeon blue rescue team at wal-mart packaged in a big yellow outer box, about the size of wario ware twisted, which said it contained a DVD of some kind. I'll admit because I don't have one it shouldn't go on your list, but I think people should keep their eyes out open for it because I doubt I imagined it.

Hey there - sorry to sound sore, my intent is never to come here to argue.
I do that all day long, so doing it here takes the fun out of it.
My apologies for the back-and-forth.
Now, back to the fun. I didn't see your post about the Wal-Mart Pokemon, and although I'll certainly check, my Wal-Marts here kind of suck for video games.
Perhaps someone else may have better luck.
Thanks for the tip though, we should all keep our collective eyes open.
Peace,
Orri~

The only 'new' game i've seen pop into stores this week (except for Pokemon Pearl/Diamond this weekend) is Toon-Doku. I got the only copy at GameStop and by the looks of it, it'll be a hard game to play since its Sudoku but with pictures and not numbers. I'm sure it'll be a tough title to get eventually due to its subject matter and everything but I really don't see that theres going to be any demand for this game in the slightest.

Hey guys,
I'm having to choose which libraries I'm going to collect for, as I have another interest that I'm looking to get back into.
Unfortunately, the DS will be the library that I'll be passing up.
If anyone wishes to carry on the list, please do so - I hope it's helpful.
I'll still be maintaining my 360 list.
Good luck everyone.
Peace,
Steve

man it seems like everyone is droppin out of collecting ds games
It was feasible for a while to try to buy every game as it came out. That was back in the day when the DS was still unproven and only quirky original titles were coming out.
Today it's the new Game Boy and it's getting a bajillion titles a month, most of which are junk. It was most interesting to me when it looked like it might be another Virtual Boy with a relatively small library. Once the licensed games started flooding in, I bailed.

I've been busy and havent been to these forums in what seems like a week or two now >.>
Ds is still my secondary system to collect for. I wonder if doc ramon still collects i havent seen him on any forums since the new year.
As for so many games coming out. I'd agree to an extent. In all honesty though the only reason I dont have a complete collection for the DS is because I focus on the xbo 360 the most while also trying to purchawse every ps3 exclusive game that comes out and a lot of wii games and older gen games.
The DS is stilll a great system for collecting but its not realistic if you wish to collect for any other systems at the same time. Plus there are certain games for the DS that I just flat out refuse to buy -
bratz, harry potter, barbie, winx club, that's so raven. Most games I am pretty accepting of but it actually annoys me that those games were released on the DS >.>

I guess I'll try to keep the list up to date. Of course, I'll need everyone's help. Please continue to post any new finds, along with where you found it (regardless of store, online, etc...)
I'll try to have an update in the next couple of days.

Okay, here is the new update! You'll note that I've beefed up the 'announced' section. It's more than twice the size it used to be. Let me know if you think it's too much for one post. I also added dates so we have an idea of when to look out for stuff.
I'm still going to be relying on everyone to help with the updates, so let me know whenever you stumble upon a new game. Thanks for all the help so far. And huge thanks to orrimarrko and xmagxus for getting this started!

I'm not seeing Devilish or Capcom Vs. SNK in stores at all. I think our local GS only got one CvSNK and the manager was stunned that it was sold before I got in there tonight.

In regards to that new update it all looks good (and I know how hard it can be to keep things totally up to date, in fact it seems like everyone that tries to do so burns out on it after a few weeks and someone else takes over ;p which seems to happen the most with the DS due to how many games come out for it that go with absolutely zero marketing (such as games like the connect four/sorry/trouble/battleship compilation and mini rc rally)
Where you posted harlem globetrotters though you said its a new release as of 4/25 Maybe it was a fluke that I got it early but I actually was able to buy it online and have had the retail copy for like 1.5 or so months now roughly so I believe its been out for awhile.
As for devilish, lots of people are havign trouble finding it, apparently they moved the release date back to the first week of next month for god knows what reason - they did this the day before it was supposed to be released so several stores actually have it in stock but arent selling it. I went to bestbuiy and it was in their computer to not sell it till next week (not sure why) but since im in there a lot they just let me buy it.
So try going to a game store that you do most of your business at and asking them if they have it in stock because you heard the release was delayed one week at the last minute but other stores are already selling it. If it's a place you do a lot of business at they will likely just get one from the back and sell it to ya since several places already got their shipment of em.

I agree I tend to buy most of the releases too with exceptions like the ones you listed BUT I actually did buy princess natasha because when i got it i saw it at toysrus and it was a mega rare game at the time because it wasnt apparently fully released nationwide yet i guess but now its not that hard to find if you go to amazon or toysrus. I pass up on totally spies, raven, harry potter, bratz, and barbie type games, as well as a couple ea sports games (all the 07 and beyond ones)
I am curious though.. didnt you buy catz, dogz, or hamsterz? because if you did im sorta wondering what it was about horsez that would make you not wanna buy it since they are all within the same "family" of games from the same company. I tend to pick up all those pet simulator games generally since they seem to be a genre exclusive to the DS (for the most part)
In fact I believe these are all the pet simulator games on the DS (might be forgetting one or two)
Nintendogs: best friends
Nintendogs: lab and friends
nintendogs: dachshund and friends
nintendogs: chihuahua and friends
nintendogs: dalmation and friends
horsez
hamsterz
catz
dogz
sims: pets
paws and claws pet vet
and the most recently released:
Purr pals
I actually havent managed to pick up purr pals yet, it seems like everytime i plan to there is always several other things I want more in recent weeks I overlooked it for the "must own" games that everyone seems to be picking up like paper mario, pokemon, and such. I'll prolly get it eventually but im not in a huge rush to get it yet.

Yep. I have the Japanese version "Devilish: Ball Bounder".
The US version is a budget DS relase from UFO Interactive..only 19.99. I saw it at my Best Buy on Friday.

Nope, i've not bought any of the petZ line. I've got my copy of Nintendogs (fiance has her own, not to mention Best Friends Edition that came with her Nintendogs DS) and am happy enough. I know I have zero interest in playing any of the Dogz, Catz, Hampsterz, Horsez games unless they release a Guinea Pig one. Otherwise its fodder I really have no desire to waste any money (or already overly stretched gametime) on.
I got my Card Fighter yesterday, but am still not seeing Harlem GlobeTrotters or Devilish (but thats been explained so). I was pretty surprised that the girl at the GameStop I got my CvSNK knew it was a Genny game because she was shocked that they were releasing it.
I found a stash of Mini RC Rally's at our local Sears the other day, so if for some reason somones dying for one, head over to the electronics dept and look in those budget Couregated game displays.

Where you posted harlem globetrotters though you said its a new release as of 4/25 Maybe it was a fluke that I got it early but I actually was able to buy it online and have had the retail copy for like 1.5 or so months now roughly so I believe its been out for awhile.
The 4/25 date was just mentioning that's the date it was added to the list. I can see how that can be confusing - and redundant since the list already mentions when the latest update took place. So I'll just mark a game as 'new' without the date going forward.
Thanks also for the info on Devilish! I'll keep on the list for the time being, but maybe we'll have to revisit that....

Should I start collecting for the DS, i love the system, but only have 17 games for it. Should I start buying all the games I want for it? and then fill in the gaps? or should i just limit it to the games i really want.
Sorry if that was hard to understand, lol.

QFT.
Just be careful since for some reason its seeming that the Big Nintendo titles once they are gone, are gone and very very hard to find. I had a Horrible time finding Tetris recently. Most of their other stuff once OOP is just as tough to find.
Also, the bigger Publishers like Konami, Capcom, Namco (as well as the NamcoBanDai stuff) goes that same route after a seemingly short while.
Just hit up the used sections of your GS/EB's and you'll still find a decent amount of stuff fairly regularly. Remember to buy what you enjoy, rather than just getting everything especially since the system has gone so mainstream. Nintendo is releasing sooo much crap right now its not funny.

If you have a Meijer in the area and are searching for this game, I've found copies at two different stores, on a 'budget rack' with other DS/PSP games. That would lead me to believe other stores have them too.
Just FYI.

List has been updated with just a pair of lisenced games - Spider-Man 3 and Shrek the Third. I think Sudokuro is supposed to be out soon, though the only evidence of that is from Amazon, who claim to have it in stock (though it will ship in 4 - 6 weeks).

Impressive collections but I still can't fathom what would possess a person to purchase games such as Spongebob, Pony Friends, Hannah Montana and some of the other shovelware.
That being said, do you think that the DS has become so collectable because it's really the last cart based console out there. To me collecting console games lost some of it's charm and appeal once things went CD/DVD

Not in the slightest. I've got well over 1000 PS/PS2 games and all of those are disc based, and thats not counting the GCN,XBox,X360,Wii stuff I have as well. I've gone crazy getting DS stuff because there has been a good number of games released for it, not to mention a good number of unique games. That just furthers the collectability of it.

No, and there are no plans to do so unless I'm going for a full DS collection, and i'm not doing that in the forseeable future.
However I've been silly enough to have bought Whac-A-Mole, Wiffle Ball, Elf Bowling and a few other 'Why did you make this game' games.

Well, if you make the decision to collect for any platform you're going to get shovelware. All NES collectors out there will have to buy lots of really bad and licensed games.
I know portables are more well known for it, but it seems like the DS has a better ratio of really good, original games than the GBA did.
That's part of the reason why it's so collectable to me. The other part is that it's a lot cheaper to complete the collection. Lots of games can be had for $10, and new games are still cheaper on average than anything else out there.
Oh, and thanks for the updates on the Harvest Moon and Pokemon bonus items, I'll add them on the list when I update next. A heads up for everyone, I saw Sudokuro this past weekend at an EB. This week we may be getting Code Lyoko, Etrian Odyssey and Touch the Dead.

Thanks again for the updates, everyone! Here is the latest list. I tried something different here. Rather than have a huge list of announced games, I'm just going to list the ones we should expect in the next couple of months. I figure that'll make it easier to keep our eyes open for new games. A whole bunch of games are set for next week, so please keep your eyes open!

Has anyone here played Etrian Odyssey yet? I just picked up my copy at gamestop (one of two they received).
Everywhere I go it seems workers are saying how no one has interest in the game blah blah and thats the reason of such low shipments. I think aside from the new-aged anime esq characters--the artwork is beautiful.
will try out tomorrow.

Is this the one where you map out the area like in the old Wizardry series? I read the quickie review in GI, and I was sold for the same reasons the reviewer trashed it. That and Touch the Dead are my next DS purchases.

Touch the Dead is really enjoyable. I picked my copy up Wednesday when Gamestop got the shipment in and must say that it's very fun and addictive. The overall game is fairly short so I'm spacing my time spent playing it out, the graphics for the environments do get a little bland, but the pace of the game really covers that up.

I'd buy it if i hadnt pre-ordered the pokemon bundle of the two games and pre-order bonus before they came out.
That's actually not a bad deal for a limited edition DS. Pretty cool but im not gonna buy it when i already own both games and the guide. I'd be paying over 300 bucks just for the ds, not worth it especially since my DS is only a secondary collection now.

Hello everybody.. After a couple of years of casual gaming, I've decided that I would like to try and get a complete DS collection again after all! Mainly all of the US releases but, some other things too - for example I decided to treat myself to the two Club Nintendo DS games earlier..
The list is of course fantastic help. I will try and get a list of European exlcusive DS titles up if anybody is interested? I believe there is quite a few now..
I have fallen dreadfully behind on my collection as I have only picked up must-play titles such as Pokemon and the other Nintendo Franchise games over the past year or so as well as a few other things whilst I was visiting New York.. So as of today I'm officially collecting again.. I hope I can keep it up for a bit longer this time lol.
Are their any current rarities I should try particularly hard to pick up?
Also, I would love to see some photographs of everyones current DS collections.. Especiallys Drexels if its not too much of a problem?
Anywho, Good to be back.. All the Best..
Joe.

Given that it comes in a full case and everything, are you guys going to get the DS Web Browser? If so, keep in mind that there's two versions. One has a RAM cartridge designed to fit exactly and only into the DS Lite GBA slot. The other has a GBA game sized RAM cartridge that will obviously fit into either the original DS or the Lite. The latter can only be obtained by ordering it directly from Nintendo's online store.

The big list has been updated again with the following games:
Marvel Trading Card Game
Nintendo DS Browser
Planet Puzzle League
Pony Friends
Surf's Up
Tank Beat
As Neo Rasa mentioned, don't forget that there are two versions of the browser!
As always, please keep your eyes open for new games and make a quick post if you see anything. I'm specifically wanting to know if Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu is out there.
Also interesting is that the Canadian EB site is listing Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action as coming out June 29. No other site seems to be listing it right now. Of course, all the gaming sites are still listing this as having been released in Nov 2005 :/ Could this game finally be on its way?
Oh, and Gunstar_Hero UK, I'd love to see a list of European exclusives. And let us know which ones are worth importing!

Biker Mice From Mars is on a few websites, such as gamespot, but from the boxart i saw, is it just a PAL game? Cause I am interested in it, but more or less only if it gets a US/north american release.

Brain Buster Puzzle Pack (IGN has just reviewed it and the Gamestop website claims to have it in stock)
I'm after this one, but my favourite importers aren't stocking it.

The list was again updated with two more games that I saw at EB:
Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu
Zendoku
There's a few games that may be out there, please psot if you stumble upon them:
Biker Mice from Mars (Amazon.com says it is in stock, though I can't find mention of this game anywhere else)
Brain Buster Puzzle Pack (IGN has just reviewed it and the Gamestop website claims to have it in stock)
Time Ace (Konami has put out a press release saying it is out)
At my local GS yesterday I didn't see Zendoku (didn't look for DBZ), nor did I see Time Ace. They did have Brain Buster Puzzle Pack and they got in Tank Beat a few days ago so I got them.
Up till about 2 weeks ago GS had Biker Mice From Mars in their Coming Soon games list online, but they pulled it off before it actually made it out. Amazon is showing the DS game available via J & R, and I've not gotten any import stuff from them, so I think its a US release. I'll order it and see what I get.
