N-games.de is a very good site for that. Here is an absolute monster list (http://www.n-games.de/ds/spieleliste-detail.php?auswahl=1) of all anounced (/cancelled) and released DS games in all regions. Complete with boxarts and screenshots when possible.

Off the top of my head, I know the released system packages include

Original electric blue first release with no pack in game
Silver NDS with metriod demo
Blue NDS with Animal crossing demo
Blue NDS with mario kart game
Blue NDS with nintendogs demo or game
Red NDS with mario kart game
Teal NDS with nintendogs
Pink NDS with nintendogs

I want to know if I am missing any packings? Thanks.

I want to know if I am missing any packings? Thanks.

I've collected all the pack-ins (that I know of) to date (by themselves, not with the systems). There is a Super Mario 64 DS pack-in that was available at Wal-Mart in addition to those on your list.

Also, I saw my first and only copy of Sudoku Mania at TRU today ... looks like it may be another one of those "stealth" releases.

I suppose I am.

I'm only missing 2 systems, the Blue bundle with Mario Kart and the plain Silver with no game.

I'm also picking up some accessories as I go, but not aggressively.

It's been a while since I posted here...I've started to fall behind on the games a little bit, but I'm not too far back. It looks like we've slowed down a little bit on releases, but I'm sure they will pick up again in August.

i try not to be too serious about anything... it's just games!

but to answer your question, i don't bother collecting the hardware. that's not to say i don't want some of the other colors that come out, or that i won't pick them up at some point in the future... but to me they're just variants. i don't collect variant packaging on a game, i'm not gonna collect variants of the system. i want the original color it's released in (silver regular, white lite) and any others i pick up along the way is just bonus (in my case, i got teal in order to get the nintendogs best friends game).

drexel tried to collect hardware, including all variants, and i'm sure he'll chime in here too... but he'll be the first to tell you that collecting hardware is a little ridiculous... lots of money to spend on small differences.

although, i'd certainly applaud someone that could do it... all colors, all styles, all regions... but then you get into the specific boundaries... do you really count the custom camo G-Unit DS? what about the Advance Wars promo DS from europe? the 3 given out via auction at the Sundance Film Festival, all of which went to celebrities?

this is why being 'serious' becomes too complicated for me.

EDIT: i all went referencing you, drex, and you beat me to the submit button...

wow, I'll be honest, I think having a complete DS collection at this point is really dumb. With any system you'll have a lot of bad games, and the DS is no exception. The only time you should buy those games is when they are so old they don't cost much. With the DS however every game is fairly new, so they are all expensive, comparitively. Also, they are still releasing games for the system, so you never no how many games you are going to have to get for a complete collection. I feel the same way about people who collect PS2/Xbox, etc. That's just my opinion, if it makes you happy go for it, what do I know?

Heh. :)

Yeah, things kind of switched backwards for me again. When I had originally backpeddled on my attempt at getting all of the US (retail) variants for systems it looked as if there was going to be a huge flood of them. So I decided to only stick to one of each color (specifically those with a game/demo bundled in). At the same time I was buying DS systems for stock for my store...with the understanding that I would be in business, selling them before the Lite came out. Unfortunately that didn't happen...and now I have too many DS systems (not Lite versions) which obviously aren't worth as much as they were. So I took the 3 systems I didn't have in my collection from my stock and now I only need 2. I figure at this point, they definitely aren't going to release any more original DS bundles, so I might as well finish them off. Also, I am (and have always been) firm that I am only "collecting" US released items...if I happen to have JPN or PAL things then cool, but it's not a neccessity.

Not sure what I'm going to do about the Lite though. I suppose I'll wait and see on how they push the bundles.

I've seen this arguement before (in this thread no less), but I think there are good reasons to do what I am doing. First off, there is no way in hell that I am paying full retail for a majority of my collection (and I haven't). A majority of my games were bought used or on crazy sales. Sure I may be paying $15 for a game that I could pay $10 for in 2 years, but the reason I do this leads to my next point...handheld games don't really stick around as long as console ones IMO. Usually a majority of the games get low prints runs, and those that don't might not even get a reprint. The other problem is that finding the original packaging is a pain in the ass 2-3 years later. Look at how many used loose gameboy games are at gamestop with almost no complete. I'm already seeing it with the DS in most stores. Some of those "crappy" games are targeted to kids, and they certainly don't care about condition or keeping cases and manuals.

I feel that if I still stick to a limit and if I have the means to support it then I rather pay a little more now, than pay a lot later and with more aggrivation.

DocRamon
07-20-2006, 04:58 PM
i totally agree with everything you said there drexel... i'd much rather pay now to get the game complete and it excellent condition than wait a few years and run the risk of something being hard to find at all, hard to find complete, or anything else that might make it more troubling.

and... i don't want to sound like i'm made of money, cause i'm not. if i were, i'd have a lot more of the DS stuff that i want. but honestly, $30 for a game is not "expensive" to me. i have a good job, i make good money, and i don't do many other things than play my DS games and go out to eat on occasion. the difference between a $15 game and a $30 game is just so negligible that i don't mind ponying up the cash now.

i don't understand all the "that collection costs so much!" comments. it's not like i'm slamming down $7500 all at once and having the games delivered to my door. a few games at a time, as they're released, and it really doesn't change my financial status very much at all. most months, DS games are barely a dent in my income.

GM80
07-20-2006, 06:07 PM
Why now? Because I actually want to find the games. Most of the "crap" games I have picked up for less than $10 at clearance sales. The genuinely good games are worth their asking price to me.

Want another reason? Take a look at this:
Texas Hold 'Em Poker Pack on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Texas-HoldEm-Poker-Pack-DS-Nintendo-DS_W0QQitemZ150011898684QQihZ005QQcategoryZ62053QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
(not mine and I'm not bidding)

That's a game that nobody cares about. I would guess it's going to have an extremely reasonable ending price. But as a collector, looking forward to having a complete DS collection, that's valuable. Have you even seen that game anywhere? The one published by SummitSoft, not the other one made by Majesco. I've seen one copy in real life and I own it. The publisher won't even confirm it exists.

While it may be worth $10 or less on the marketplace today, in a short time it will be nigh impossible to find. If I am determined to have a complete DS collection when the dust has settled, I'd rather spend $14.99 on the one copy I saw at Best Buy than go hunting for it a few years from now.

not really. if you visit a bunch of places regularly, you can kinda keep up with everything that's going on, and thus stay 'in the know' in terms of collecting...

but honestly, this thread right here is probably the best source of information for all things related to DS collecting. the combined knowledge of us 'serious' DS collectors can help you out on pretty much anything...

well the thing about collecting all of them now is you just have to buy what game comes out that week sure sometimes you have an expensive week with 4 or 5 games coming out. but then you end up getting a break like recently and no games come out and you get to finish games you may have only half played(i just finished Peach Shamu Scooby Doo and Cars). and the best place to go for updates is here every so often ill post a list of current games and somtimes what should be coming out soon atleast till xmag updates his first post with the info.

also anyone get cars from target it has a sticker on the cover and comes with a piece of paper with a code.

They are two different games...the first being made by Majesco and the second by Summitsoft. The Summitsoft version is harder to find and will most likely be rare in the future.

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I figured the DS collecting thread was as good a place as any :P

v2 of the demo station cart appears to be making its way into shops for people to link with. However v3 of the cart is present right here at Comicon, so expect that... sometime in the future I'd imagine.

What's on it? A bundle of movies, playable stuff I can only recall Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 and Starfox offhand. Will see about taking my DS along tomorrow to check it out myself (as opposed to using QoF's Lite heh!).

Any interest in a DS-specific collecting site? I'd be happy to start one up on my domain with a couple of you guys as contributors.

What other NDS games are considered rare at the moment?

If a game was published by Summitsoft, DSI Games, D3Publisher, Ignition Entertainment, Empire Interactive, Atlus, The Game Factory or Mastiff it probably had a pretty low print run (although none are quite as elusive as the Poker Pack right now). Several Majesco, Konami and Capcom games are getting sparse now. Also, Wal-mart may have been the only brick-and-mortar retailer to carry Big Mutha' Truckers, although I'm not sure on that one.

As a side note, I'm down to 27 DS games needed since getting into the scene in March. There have been some great sales recently that helped out tremendously. I've scored all the "rare" titles, the pack-in variants and the Zelda DS trailer. The ones I need now are either still at full retail everywhere (Mario & Luigi 2 or Super Princess Peach) or crapware that I haven't cheap enough yet (Need for Speeds, etc.).

well i was bored and wondering if the Animaniacs game was still comming here so i decided to email them. And they actually responded with

Sure is…

It will eventually make it to store shelves. The game is ready to go, and we are just waiting on confirmation from retailers to put it in their stores.

Thanks for the email!

Ken

then figuring on the off chance it may never see the lite of day i asked if i could buy directly and got a resopnce in 9 min.

Unfortunately not for two reasons. First, we have no way to accept a consumer payment and ship out a single unit. Secondly, and more importantly, we do not have any in inventory. We do, however, anticipate an order being placed in the near future...hopefully in time for the Christmas buying season.

Best regards,

Ken

On a side note i a friend gave me this and since im not going after demos i figured id ask if anyone here wants to make an offer before i put it up on ebay.

You're welcome, GM80. Head over there and start your collection. Tag those upcoming games. Dive into the forum if a game is missing, of if you can fill in any of the blanks on a particular game page.

And their shows (usually bi-monthly) are also worth a listen!

just something to think about before dropping a ton of cash on the japanese club nintendo version... you may not want to hop on board the first one posted on ebay...

Well, they're showing up now (the JP Game & Watch Collection) and they're not going cheap. Seller "andrewlovesmiki" has apparently cashed in all his Club Nintendo points to get about a dozen of them. They may not be the first on eBay, but they're the first I've seen.

Just an FYI, now that I've already secured mine. Let the bloodshed begin

As for an impending US release ... I'd be surprised. Turns out the cart only has 3 games on it: Donkey Kong, Oil Panic and Greenhouse. That's nice enough for a "thank you" freebie to loyal Japanese customers, but hardly enough to warrant localization and distribution for a second region, especially when NOA has no comparable rewards program. i think the game&watch card will be handled much like the famicom SP was from club nintendo...

yes, the club nintendo version will be the only way to get this specific card, this specific case, this specific offering. yah for those who spend the points, you get a cool little item meant mostly as a collectible. BUT, a different version will be released later on, and made available to the public. in the case of the famicom SP, it looked slightly different. here, i'd think we'll just get more than 3 games. make it a solid offering and decent 'collection' of classics.

and then... that more complete version will likely get stuck with a 'touch generations' logo and given global release.

so yes, it's great if you want that collectible club nintendo version of the game... but i don't think that it'll maintain exclusive to that one card. with the potential audience for such games, nintendo would be missing a big opportunity by not making it available for sale elsewhere. somehow, they'll take advantage of that opportunity, and i fear that the inflated ebay prices will really just be paying for a shiny case.

having said that... gimme gimme gimme.

Having bought plenty of Club Nintendo items from contacts and eBay in the past, I know to hold back cos I know more G&W cards will hit the net shortly anyhow, mainly due to demand I think on it.

What sort of price do you think they'll command ? They're in the $90 range at the moment, so could I hope for maybe $50 when more arrive on eBay ?

Alright, which one of you cut a side deal for the DS Download Station hardware (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270017018442) that's no longer for sale on eBay? The seller responded to my e-mail and said that he did indeed accept a side offer from someone, as "things are tight this month."

Show yourself!

I haven't heard a thing about either of them....but since one is a Summitsoft game you never know. ;)

I was not the one who cut the side deal for the download station... but i DID have my eye on it, and i hope that seller got a lot of cash for the thing, cause i was fully prepared to offer an unheard of amount. if things really are that tight, he could have probably made more off me by waiting it out. so, GM80, now you must take that email to ebay and report his ass for making side deals against ebay policy.

as for those two games drexel mentioned...

you can never really 'confirm' anything with a summitsoft release, however... i'm going on the assumption that the same places that carried blades of thunder and poker pack will also carry mini rc rally. and since none of them have shown the game as released yet, i'm fairly certain that it's not out. last i heard, it was delayed to a generic "fall 06" so i think that the may 30 date is probably just old.

as for titeuf, i can confirm that it HAS been released... in europe. it's a french comic that was turned into a DS game and released a few months back. since titeuf has about zero presence outside of europe, i doubt it'll make it to any other regions.

I wouldn't go that far.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/end_early.html

According to this he didn't break any of ebay rules since it was well before the 12 hour left limit. I wouldn't get the guy in trouble for trying to make sure he gets the cash he needs as soon as possible instead of waiting 5 days...and then maybe even getting caught with a non-payer.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/rfe-spam-non-ebay-sale.html

"eBay prohibits email offers to buy or sell listed items outside of the eBay Web site. Some examples of outside of eBay offers include: Using information obtained through eBay to offer to buy or sell a listed item outside of eBay. Canceling a listing to sell to a buyer who became aware of the item through eBay. Ending a listing early to sell the item at a higher price to the winning bidder. It is acceptable for sellers to end a listing early in order to sell an item at the current bid price to the high bidder."

sure, the 'side deal' could have been about setting up a private auction, or about selling it for the current bid price which was hardly any money. in those cases, there may have not have been a violation. BUT... if this seller really wanted to make a certain amount of money immediately without waiting until the auction's end... that's what Buy It Now is for. that option at least follows eBay policy.

i'm not really sure how you can defend this guy. (unless YOU made the side deal?) he's clearly violating eBay rules.

but that's honestly not the point. it's hard enough to win these items fairly, and now we have to worry about people making unfair side deals before we even get a square opportunity? when did collecting become so ruthless that we have to break the rules before respecting our peers? i don't mind losing an auction legitimately, but this is really low.

the only way to put an end to any of it is by calling them out every time. hopefully then people will stop. so yeah, i'd report it.

So was I. But I do feel rather upset about it, because as you can see in his e-mail below (emphasis added), he didn't cave for a huge amount of money:

"Please accept my apologies. I am not normally in the habit of ending items early, but ever since that auction ran I was flooded with several high offers to sell out of auction. This was not something I originally planned to sell at all, but bill $ was tight this month, so when I received an offer of $300 shipped, it was just too good to pass up. Again, I am sorry. I'm sure I pissed a lot of people off who had either bid or were 'watching' that listing. Thanks, (insert name here).

I told him he probably lost at least $150 in higher bids, and to have a nice day.

Guys, collecting is pretty cut-throat, and this happens all the time. It's happened to me as a seller and it's happened to me as a buyer. From my point of view, it's just one of those things that happens all the time, and just chalk it up to "I will find the next one"

It's just eBay. Suck it up.

DocRamon
08-12-2006, 06:27 PM
oh, i totally understand that collecting is cutthroat... and it certainly sucks, as do many things in this world.

however, being the good person that i'd like to think i am, i refuse to drop that low for what is supposed to be a fun hobby revolving around video games... and i would think that any decent person would act the same way.

like everything else, it's the rude and obnoxious people that ruin things for the rest of us.

i don't chalk it up to "i will find the next one." i chalk it up to "nice guys finish last."

GrandAmChandler

i don't chalk it up to "i will find the next one." i chalk it up to "nice guys finish last."

That's fine, but don't try to go and ruin the seller just because you may have missed out. If I had an offer that was high enough on an item that I was selling, I'd do it to. And so would you. Everyone has their price......

DocRamon
08-13-2006, 02:50 AM
if the seller doesn't want to be 'ruined' then he needs to learn to play by the rules. that's why the rules exist... and you as a Moderator should understand that better than anyone.

and yes, we all have a price... a price that is included in the auction as a Buy It Now or a reserve. that is the way to establish your price and quickly get your ideal dollar amount.

quite honestly, if i was getting "flooded with several high offer bids" it would be incentive for me to NOT end the auction and watch the collectors battle it out... as GM80 said, he could have made more money that way.

regardless of that, the fact is that the seller broke ebay policy. you can't argue that. i think he should face some sort of consequence. it's like the jackass that speeds down the highway at 110mph, weaving around traffic... don't we all want to see a cop pull out and write him a ticket?

in the end, GrandAmChandler, i think we're actually on the same page, or at least reading from the same book. "life sucks." the difference is that you just "suck it up" while i do what i can to change things.

now... for an item that nobody here won (or, at this point, won't admit to winning) we sure are talking about it an awful lot, and mostly in circles... i move to change the subject...?

Erm, I think Konductra and Labyrinth were released yesterday.

I stopped by my local GameStop today to pick up Deep Labyrinth ... barely. They received 2 copies, one of which was reserved. I got the other.

The other GameStop in town did not get any, and none of the big box retailers nearby even had the game in their systems. It's a typical Atlus game x_x

Looks like Konductra may have been delayed.

deep labrynth is out today. the gamestop/eb sites show tenchu as now shipping... so that could show up this week, and freedom wings should be out later this week as well.

I don't believe that Cooking Mama has, as yet, been confirmed for Europe. Shame. But I reckon that it'll reach these fine shores in due course - perhaps before the year draws to a close!

As for importing... I'd recommend to you BlahDVD (http://www.blahdvd.com/). They usually import a few DS games from the US. But, if you're looking to import regularly, then head over to JPN Games (http://www.jpngames.co.uk/). Drop Dave an e-mail and let him know what you're after, and take it from there. He is the best.

Well, movietyme has Cooking Mama US down for Sept 13th at only £12 delivered!

And that JPN games seems expensive, only had a quick look, but Rhythm Tengoku for £30 seems a lot to me, and for Japanese games i use a handful of sites which are all good.

This seems to be more about general DS discussion, so yeah. I just picked one up today (of the lite variety, new from BB) and the only game I got was New SMB. I know there are a ton of games out that are good, and the following are some I'm wanting to get, so if you could suggest (or remind) me of any other titles I might like, please do so!

Under the Knife, Kirby's Canvas Curse, Sonic Rush, Star Fox (once it's out) Mario Kart, those two 'Brain' titles, Meteos, Electroplankton, Warioware: Touched. And yeah, I think that's it. I'm also not intrested in any RPGs or Phoenix Wright. Thanks for any/all suggestions.

pooch-- i agree with Mayhem. if you're not going to limit yourself to one particular region, i would not double up on games. pick a region to focus on, and then get games from other regions that aren't released in your primary region. i might do that... someday... once the DS is done with and i have every US release. certainly not a priority, but if i run out of things to pick up, i might get desperate.

GM80-- yeah, i picked up tenchu this past weekend. it's out. freedom wings is out too, i found it at best buy. they had quite a bit, shouldn't be a problem getting one.
